screen surface layer wearing down - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

hi,
from wear and tear my xda has developed a 'worn patch' on the screen. it is located bottom center on the screen and makes using 'letter recogniser' hard.
The touch screen is still functioning perfectly despite the 'gritty' texture. It is defo not a substance 'on' the screen rather it appears that maybe a protective layer stuck to the screen may be destroyed.
I will need to open this xda, my question is, has anyone managed to peel off this layer? if so maybe i could then replace it with a similiar protective layer or just do without it?
tnx
Adrian

buy a new touch screen, but not the LCD

[Q] remove the screen protective hard coat

hello to all,
I had a small incident during some home repair work where I didn't realize that I had adhesive on the fingers when I answered the tel. After that I found traces of adhesive on the screen as one can see on the photo. I did not remember if I had placed a screen protector on my toshiba at the beginning or not. Then To check it I tried to remove it with the nail to take off an edge, and an end is actually detached, except that it does not look like a screen protector, but a kind of plastic layer semi-rigid which has the thickness of a protective film! It looks like a protective hard coat which comes with the phone but is not supposed to be removed.
I am afraid now to pull it off and damage my screen even more. Then I would like to know if somebody already experienced this problem and could remove this protective layer.
If so please share your experience. I may not be the only one with this issue.
Thanks a lot and sorry for my poor English.
That looks indeed like part of the case that protects the touch screen. I will try ebay and look for a replacement case.
its avible on ebay for 17 euros only
i think that surface is not a protective layer.. i think it's part of the touchscreen.
I removed mine today. Touch screen still works
The coating makes the screen less prone to scratches, and makes slight scratches less apparent. After removing the coating, I noticed the lots of tiny scratches I made on the screen, but they're gone after I stick a new screen protector on it.
I'm glad I removed it because there's a scratch on mine.

Can you report exactly how did you make it? Are you sure that it was not a previous protective screen? I've just bought a second TG01 with a scratched screen but I don't dare to do what you did

It is not a previous protective screen. It is factory applied, there's a lot of glue residue on the screen after I remove it. Took me a lot of time to remove the glue by "pushing" the glue to a side with my fingers, then cleaning it off with WD40.
I bought my second hand TG01 in June and have been using it every day ever since. A few days ago, presumably due to cold weather, I noticed this hard coat is starting to wear off, there's a mark on the screen like a badly applied screen protector, so I started to remove it.
The glue that stuck the hard coat onto the screen was very strong, so be patient and take extra care when removing the coat. Do it slowly so only the hard coat is removed but not the soft touch screen layer below it.
DO stick a new screen protector on the screen after removing the hard coat as the unprotected screen is more prone to scratches without the hard coat.
After two days of use, do NOT remove the hard coat. I think I damaged the touch screen in the progress, it's now very hard to tap on the intended position correctly.
Now going to buy a new touch screen

Thank you for your WARNING.
I wonder if you could film the process of changing the touch! If you have success (as expected) this video would be very useful for other people interested (as me)
Crossed fingers!
It's not a video and it might take google translator to understand it, but, thanx to a guy called chdeul, there are very interesting explanations and pictures on the french forum:

This is VERY interesting and well done description in the link you provided! I almost opened my phone but due to lack of appropriate courage and tools and understanding, I stopped for now, but will soon re-try!

Screen looseness in corners on 10.1v

So screen is loose in all four corners (it popped out of the metal), my friend has the same problem and it looks like a design fault, the metal body is slightly arced and the plastic touch screen pops out after a while, when i press it in again it holds for a few minutes and then it us loiqe again. Now normally i would not care, but dust is gathering between the LCD and and the touch panel. Is this a common problem and how can i clean out the dust and re-glue the touch panel to prevent tgis in the future ???

[Q] X10- Phone screen/digitizer issue- Urgent

Was bored and decided to try and pry open the glass on the front of my X10 (bad idea, I know) and eventually the top half of the glass screen came off, but the bottom was still attached to a small, bronze colored metal strip. The screen then cracked (small crack) in the bottom left corner.
See first picture attachment (1060)- This is what I initially did.
At this point I decided to put the screen back on and only the bottom half or so of the touch screen was working, nothing that I did on the top part responded.
Attempting to fix this, I decided to take the entire front glass off and try to clean the digitizer as some finger oil, etc. had gotten on. In the process, I believe that I may have broken the same, metal strip (the one that is always attached to the front glass in pictures, etc.).
See second picture attachment (1061)
Is there any way to fix this somehow? I've tried aligning the bronze strip with the part on the digitzer but the touch screen doesn't work at all now.
The display itself seems to be fine and from what I know about touch screens, the metal strip is what transfers that the transparent conductor on the glass itself, so I'll only have to replace the front glass/metal strip right?
.
heh..I did same thing with my X10...I think there is no solution for this, you can only put new touch screen.

Screen Protectors

So, after a week of use; I am starting to get little scratches on the glass of the watch. Anybody have any ideas on how I could get a decent screen protector for the watch? I know there aren't any perfectly sized ones for this device but maybe somebody here already found one that fits.
You may be getting real scratches on the screen, but be aware that the sapphire-coating on the TS also can appear scratched when it really is just marked. To clean those markings off takes some fairly serious buffing, but you might find the screen was not really scratched and comes out clean again.
There are no screen protectors currently available specifically cut to fit the TS. You could cut one yourself, maybe using that peel-off sticker it shipped with.

I cut my own screen protector out of an old one (unused) that I had laying around. Turned out horrible.
It was the more rigid type and where the edge of the TrueSmart screen has a bevel the screen protector was just hanging out over it. It ended up collecting dirt and made it hard to access the back and menu swipe actions. I also considered cutting it back to only the actual screen portion but I figured that was just going to make those swipe actions even more miserable so I just tossed it.
My guess is that the only thing that would work would be one of the more flexible stretchable type screen protectors, not sure how well they would conform to the bevel on the glass though.

[Q] Strange SGN2 screen issue (picture)

What the hell is going on here?
I am unable to feel it on the surface of the screen so I assume it's on the inside, from an angle it kinda looks like mercury with a slight metallic look to it.
No screen protector on, the phone has not been dropped.
Looking for some answers on what it could be and if it's fixable.
Thanks!

SORRY DIDN'T KNOW I POSTED IN HARDWARE HACKING, COULD A MOD PLEASE MOVE THE THREAD TO THE CORRECT SECTION?
hello,
amoled display assemblies, like the one you have in your phone, are made by fusing together the amoled screen itself and a protective gorilla glass panel. They use a special UV reactant glue to secure the bond in such a way that when looked from above the glass cover remains transparent and the glue layer is practically invisible.
What happened in your photo is ..well, kind of unfortunate. For some reasons, the glue between the glass and amoled panels got damaged/unglued. It doesn't feel to the hand since it's actually underneath that surface of the gorilla glass panel. Unfortunately, i don't know any user DIY way to solve this problem. For what i did encounter with amoled screens, this type of damage mostly occures when exposing the display to high temperatures. This - coupled with some manufacture defects in the targeted area, results in this kind of problems.
Normally in order to solve this problem, the phone would need to be sent for repairs and it would either be exposed to UV light to try to reglue the panels or have the gorilla glass removed, replaced and the glue reapplied.
Please take note that some repair centers don't have this type of UV equipment and may suggest a display module replacement altogether. That's very expensive, about the price of a second hand phone.
