I have lost COM 1 ??? - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

I recently upgraded my XDA from the O2 website. Everything OK except I have lost COM 1 ? If I try to select it in the GPS of my Tom Tom Navigator it tells me it doesn't exist.
I have the Tascali registry editor but I can't see anything missing (Like I'd know !).
Please help because Tom Tom is absolutely useless without GPS !

START/Settings, Connections TAB, BEAM icon, Untick beam. OK.
You should have com1 back again.

Have you disabled the infrared recieving in Connections?
Normaly that´s the problem
HTH

Feel a little stupid now !
Thanks... works fine now !

HELP needed with Mapopolis GPS settings

Hi everybody,
I do really need an extra help with my XDA and Mapopolis GPS kit. I connected everything right, the GPS antenna (Holux 210) works fine bilinking since the sats are linked, but my Mapopolis software regularly mounted on my XDA doesn't want to work. It still keep itself "frozen" searching for on COM1 port and it did not reply to any command on touch screen.
What's wrong???? Anyone can help me? Please...
Thanks so much for your help....

Not sure if this will fix your problem, but I had a similar situation with mapopolis a while ago.
I'll assume you already have your GPS set up to do NMEA at 4800 baud. Also, this process is described for PPC2002, I haven't been able to try out PPC2003 yet.
Go to the PPC settings window (Start Menu->Settings), and choose the "Connections" tab. Tap "Beam" and ensure that the box for "Recieve all incoming beams" is NOT checked. Click ok.
When this box is checked, it creates some kind of conflict over COM1 which prevents Mapopolis from connecting to the GPS. When I turned this option off, everything started working.
Good luck!

Problem with TomTom GPS

Hello xda-users....
I've got a little problem with my xda using tomtom.
I've added the GPS part (V209) of Tomtom diretly to the Rom.
I'm using a WM2003 ROM.
I had opened GPS an got the error "COM1 does not exist".
So exiting GPS and disabled infrared.
Opened GPS and the problem still exists.
I did not get it working. Tried some Soft and Hardresets.
May this be a problem because:
a) GPS is in the ROM
b) No other TomTom Software installed
c) Only the files from V209 are used
d) No Activation of TomTom has done (Don't know how to activate GPS...)
e) ???????
Anyone could help me?
Stefan
Hmmm, turning off the infrared port worked fine for me. Is it an actual TomTom GPS receiver or a third party? Have you set the NMEA/Sirf parameters to match the module?

Click to collapse
It's a third party GPS Reciever (Haicom)
It already worked.....
The Problem is, that i couldn't set the settings to Serial cable atteched to COM 1.
I got the error:
Cannot open Com1:
Port does not exist
:?
Turning infrared off, worked for me in the other cases too.....

Comm 9
Hi LumpiStefan
I had the same problem when I had the XDA, change the comm setting to Comm 9.
I was also using the Hiacom HI-203e. and this worked for me...
Hope it helps.

do you suffer with disappearing check boxes?
i fixed mine after flashin rom 4.01.00 by the following
install navigator and voice prompts but not gps
upgraded to navigator 2.24
then installed gps 2.09
no checkbox problems or com1 errors.
Got another hint to disable folderable keyboard. Will test all given solutions today.....
Hope one will work.
Thx to all
Stefan
The folding keyboard driver will also snatch com1 for its own use.
Ok. Problem solved.
Com9 didn´t work for me. Problam was the Keyboard-driver...

SE 2003 TOM TOM Com port 1 not there?

I'm just recently using tom tom for first time and TOM TOM tells me everytime that COM1 doesn't exist.
I'm able to downgrade back to plain old 2003 to try it , however I'd rather have a fix or work around before I do so....
any thoughts or experiences?
Hi,
This will happen if the GPS cable is not connected correctly. Disconnect the cable and reconnect then start TomTom. I get this now and then. Everytime i reconnect it works just fine. Also check within TomTom if it is configured to use COM1 via serial and not Bluetooth.
Cheers
Jay
Right, just been down to the car, everythings plugged in correctly, tried multiple soft resets but keep getting the message "cannot open COM1: Port Does not Exist"
I tried using the serial on USB option instead (just clutching at straws) and get no error messages, just GPS Position unreliable. As far as I can see TOM TOM knows something is being plugged in as the flashing disconnct icon dissapears when i plug in the GPS reciever.
Any further ideas? I want to try it having downgraded back to 2003 but I don't have any backup software apart from xBackup and I'm reall yfond of SE.
Solution to Com 1 problem
Hi,
Go to connections, and disable the IR search for other devices, and IR in total, then the COM 1 is released.
Took me quite some time to figure that out my selv when having the problem.
Cheers.

Missing COM1 Port
This happened to me too and I discovered that it was being caused by the IR Beam being on receive by default. This inhibits the use of COM1. Solution - Navigate through the System functions to find the IR Beam option. Disable that and this may solve your problem.
Cheers Hissing Syd, I was just about to try flashing my rom but this fixed the com1 issue, next to try it in the car..

tom tom on wallaby (xda 1)

I am trying to run tomtom 5 navigator on my xda1 (wallaby).
Although the program installs and runs okay, it will not connect to or see the attached gps device. I have tried a later spv1500 or similar to Xda2 and it sees the gps device straight away. The cradle i use was originally for a XDA!!i but an xda, xda II and a spv all share the same connection interface there, so shouldnt be a problem.
I read somewhere about changing the rom to a later windows 2003second edition, which i have succesfully done. The SPV and xdaII both have the above rom version, and both work okay on the cradle. Allthree devices also work okay and all connect using activesync on the PC cradle.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Have you disabled beam?
Stefan
Thank you Lumpistefan,
I have spent Hours/days trying to get this old girl working, and now in a space of two mins switching the beam off, its working great!!!
Thanks very much.
Andy
Thanks
omg thanks Stefan !
Spent 3-4 hrs and couldnt make it work, tought that gps not function properly, and how stupid I am, in searching for the solution found this answer but didnt realized that you are speaking about IRDA BEAM, tought that that is some satellite gps beam
But in the end, couple of hours later I ve realized which beam you mentioned
Thanks man !
Query on Tom Tom on Wallaby (xda 1)
This thread indicates that Blue Tooth can be enabled on XDA 1 Wallabys. I have not been successful in finding an SD Blue tooth adaptor for this model. Is there a conversion that is possible to convert SD to SDIO or is this Tom Tom an SD only GPS card?
no it dont it's about freeing a com port which the wired gps needs to work by disabling ir beam which takes hold of the same com port
no way i ever heard about can add bluetooth to wallabys

copilot gps module + tomtom

hi everyone.
sorted a mate with tom tom 7 on his charmer with newest wm5 official (o2). program works fine, but the problem is linking with his copilot gps bt module.
it all works well until the GPS MODULE is turned off, like you would overnight.
when turned back on, the pda asks if you want to connect. saying yes prompts for the passcode for gps module, but now have to re-do all settings on pda and tom tom, before it will work.
i tried it with my hermes running wm6.1 pro, and i dont have a problem.
any ideas?
Install WM 6.1 on Charmer. (Maybe this works cause you said it works on Hermes.)
i will as a last resort. i was just wondering if anyone else had come across this problem before
Found way around the problem. Tried a different GPS unit, works brilliantly.
not fixed the problem, but good enough
