Developers looking for broken XDA's...
Hi,
as posted in a separate thread: us XDA developers could use a few broken XDA's for furter investigation... If you don't succeed in selling your broken XDA, please donate your XDA to The Cause, and let us take it apart properly, make a photoshoot out of that and put it on the site; then attach our logic analyzers to the naked parts, listen in on inter-chip communication, use the embedden in-circuit emulation facilities, etc etc etc... I'm sure we'll all benefit from this!
Thanks!
bigmac
is it still available ?
yes the xda is still available but some good news it does actually switch on just a complete fluke the battery went dead when i put the screen back in fully working and you can see the screen but lines down it with box instructions charger and desktop link unit for pc
Can you give some idea what you mean by sensible, and leave an email to contact you on.

Hi,
Code number 848724, 968724 & 971724 allow you to rotate the device back to vertical, but only with the keyboard exposed. Codes 848725, 968725 & 971725 allow you to either have the device vertically (as images illustate) or you can rotate to horizontal/landscape, but with keyboard closed.
Hope this helps!
Cheers, Bryson
So if I've understood correctly, all the Brodits allow you to rotate the phone, but one lot only allow the phone to be open and the other lot only allow the phone to be closed?

Q's about Front Camera for 8525 (yes you can install one)

Okay i've been trying to track down where to get the front facing camera to install for my 8525. I actually saw an auction on youtube but i couldnt find a case so i didnt order (big mistake since now i found a case and am stuck with a hole) anyways back to the topic
- Can anyone supply me with the front facing camera so i can install it in my phone?
- Does anyone know if other camera's work with our hermes for ex: http://cgi.ebay.com/Y206-Int-Camera...88055751QQihZ016QQcategoryZ3728QQcmdZViewItem
http://cgi.ebay.com/Y104-Int-Camera...52266913QQihZ016QQcategoryZ3311QQcmdZViewItem
I asked cnn.cn about the camera and all they said is they'll check but that was the last of that.
any leads would be appreciated. THX
-Jay
I was wondering the same thing, I cant find the front camera anywhere
Good News and Bad News
Good news
is i found the OLD (Nov 2nd) auction that had the front camera for our 8525s and others that lack front camera
Bad news
The auction has been over for a while
lets hope they have some in stock. If anyone is interested let me know and i'll order as many as i can, surprisingly enough they are very very cheap.
Happy new years.
Maybe a dumb question... How do you know for sure that this is the correct camera and is it a simple plug in? Is the socket already in place in the phone?

not a dumb question at all, the links i posted above are not the correct camera. i am trying to contact the company that sells those to see if they have for our hermes.
on to the 2nd question: the socket is already in place on the phone, all you have to do is plug in the camera to the connector and you are good to go.
Outstanding! Now I just need to get the nerve to open up my new 8525.
I saw this thread and thought this might help a little bit:

Thread on HoFo (actually a tutorial) for changing the housing, but the last few pages focus on the camera. This guy bought a broken TyTn and took the camera out of it, there are also some pictures to give you a better idea of what to look for.
I have one. I took it out cause it was pointless I have tmobile US and they dont support it anyway. So anyone interested can IM me im usually on MSN. My SN is in my profile.

interested in that camera and the location of a plce I can get the housing from too
I just ordered a black HTC branded housing (at least that's what appears in the pictures) from China_Store on Ebay. It's been a few days and I still haven't received any confirmation from them, though.
You can find theirs and a couple other's by searching for "8525 housing" and setting the price range from $25 - 100. Here's a direct link.
Good luck!
Mine has a front cam, but I've never used it... How pointless
I bought the Front Camera for my 8525 and I bought The Case for it as well. Took me 1 2 3 with the Tutuorial From HoFo and a Few other sites. I was disappointed when I found out the China Store Wasn't selling them anymore. I have another 8525 I want the front camera for. It's super Cheap And a good Mod. I use it once in a while for pix and I tested it out for video and it works...But rare....Not totally useless I Live in NYC....
anyone find out where they sell them ... Put me down for 1
Front Camera Mania

It may help to know the following:
The front camera is manufactured by the Liteon Corporation of Taiwan:
http://www.liteon.com/page.aspx?id=4cdd6857-1b68-4eec-82c2-3d612c9b866f
It may be worth checking with them to see if they supply direct through their on-line Service Contact page:
http://www.liteon.com/Services.aspx?id=34a8d337-1424-4c7a-b219-80a96f109207
The Front Camera Module is:
Liteon Part No: 05P019
HTC Part No: 54H00157-00P (HTC list no alternatives for this component)
Mike
I'd definitely like one too.
I've contacted LiteOn Semiconductor...
about the front camera's....if I come up with something, I will post it here.
In the meantime, does anyone know where I can pick up a housing on the cheap ( other than ebay ) ? I'd prefer the HTC one, so I can get the keypad to replace as well ( it's got the video call button ), but it's not a hard requirement.
Anyone with the info can just PM me, and for everyone's POM, I'll update this thread in a few days, regardless of whether I hear from them or not.
How's you account for the hole for the camera ?

Did you BORE out a hole or did you replace the front bezel completely ?
Inquiring minds would like to know.
I'm curious as to what program you can use to access the front camera? Video calling (I'm aware of) or multipurpose? Thanks!
Are these cameras no longer available? I hate to buy a HTC housing and have nothing to put in there... I would have to close the hole up with a plastic piece to make it at least look like there is something there rather than just a hole for dust to get in.

Battery cover to cover camera lens

Hi everyone.
I searched it as much as I could but had no luck. Is there a battery cover that hides the camera lens? To put simply, I need a back cover with no holes at all. I need to have a phone without a camera lens and just hiding it would really help me out. I searched everywhere but found nothing. Even here in the accessories session nothing is mentioned.
If anyone finds omething please reply here, I am desperate!

I have never seen such a thing! why you wanna hide it?!?!?!?
i really don't think you will find such a thing!!!
that is what I am afraid of... I need to have a phone that has no camera with me, and I do not want to leave the HD at the house and wonder around with a simple nokia without the camera. I can pass it as a no camera phone if I could be able to find something like that.
I believe I am not the only one with this problem. There are places that security does not allow camera phones. I found a forum of iPhone users that have exactly the same problem, and I thought that if nobody here in the xda-developers knows or has seen something like this, then probably I have no choice but to leave the phone back
Sorry I have no answer for you. My hunch is that it cannot exist as the use of such cover in places where cameras are prohibited would presume that the security there are also a bunch of idiots to not to be able to see that Touch HD has also a front camera. So it would be a very narrow use possibility to make sense for large scale manufacturing...

You are absolutely right....in areas where it is prohibited to use a camera phone you shouldn't do that. But I think there's one possible solution for that: right here
Sorry for that little joke , but I have been to places where it's not allowed and you should respect that, too. If people realize that you've hidden the cam...oh oh ooooh
I see your point Maniac
I got the same here at work. We're not allowed to use or even have a camera phone with us in the development department.
But thats easily solved: We just deposit it in a lockbox before entering that area. So isn't there a possibility to do that?
Or do you need the phone at work? Then there should be an possibility to get an permission or something like that (I got that at work).

Furthermore you could easily take off the back cover and take your pictures without it. So that won't work.
Mate, since my first nokia wirh pixels camera I have just forgot about covering the lens...sony ericsson and its "k" series has lens cover...but it isn't necessary at all...

Adapter Thingy

If anyone has this small piece of hardware left over from their long-forsaken Wallaby (O2 XDA etc), pictured by Jadel here (the little thing under "/ White") then I would be very interested in buying it/them. It's a tiny object, so could be very easily posted around the globe. Payment in advance. Welcome all offers.
