During my quest to get rid of german software and get normal english, i have flashed my system like a million times,
then i got an 02 boot image
then a I-mate
then t-mobile
so its possible to change this image to your willing i guess
anyonen figured out what cab file in extended rom holds this image
maybe we can raw hack it
update
if you got an imate
its
Default_Imate.CAB
there are 2 files
0Splash1.005
0Splash2.004
if you run this cab, it will only edit the boot screens, so it turns into i-mate
i dont know how to edit these 2 files yet
they arent any format i know
hexedit read doesnt discover anything
any help here?
*** update
its a raw format
trying a picture in a bit
got a strange picture now
but he its working great
no hard reset needed or anything
still need to get the format right!
then we can all change our boot screen
When it extracts, it creates a files with a .nb extension i believe. I ran the CAB just for fun and cancelled it halfway through. Upon soft reboot, the top part of the "i-mate" logo was missing (as if just cut horizontally). Re-ran the cab, this time it worked fine.
Are these similar to the screens on the original XDA?
ladies and gentleman
You can now change your bootimages to your liking
*** link has been removed, the file is on page 2 ***
This prehistoric way will change
the boot pictures of your xda2
But it works
boot sequence has 2 pictures
1 will be at startup
and the next wil follow after 2 seconds
so you can make something nice
I included 2 working images, so you can test it you like.
Its supposed to be jennifer lopez and second image is matrix revolutions
step by step
------------
1. open a drawing program and maken 2 pictures
make sure they are saved in 320 height and 240
width. save them as normal BMP or JPG as you like
name them Splash1 and Splash2
2. acdsee 6.0 is required and easiest for this
open it and convert the pictures to
RSB RED STORM FILE FORMAT
setting for me where : use a specific resolution 64 megapixel
anti aliashing off
3. when its done rename the extensions to .NB
4.copy the cab file on your phone
and copy the Splash1.nb and Splash2.nb
in your windows folder
5.now run the CAB file
done
you can delete the 2 files Splash1.nc and Splash2.nc from your
windows map
basic
but works
**sometimes the image doesnt fit properly, i think the width must be adjusted.
will look into that later
Akira
akira, you are the man!
-arebelspy
Maybe you could have the cab file (at the end of its running) delete Splash1.nc and Splash2.nc for us?
-arebelspy
You can use WinCE CAB Manager (http://www.ocpsoftware.com/) to edit the CAB file to include the nb files.
Bam, I got matrix code as my bootup image.
-arebelspy
i was very tired yesterday and it was getting late, so i finished it quickly so other could try.
that cab thing is good, ill try this weekend to make something more handy
the file displacement is maybe because the file has to be exactly as big as the original. try that this weekend to..
IMO, keep the cab how it is. If you make the .nb files inside the cab, you'd have to download a new cab file every time you wanted to change the image, etc. It'd be a lot harder for people to change the startup images, how it is now works good, if it would just delete the two files for us.
-arebelspy
is your picture on the right place or displaced?
displaced.. that's why i replaced it with matrix code, so you couldn't tell
then again maybe it was how you saved the images that made it displaced? i just hit save and did it as that filetype, didnt bother to check about the 64 megapixel anti aliasing off thing.

I think this program works only on XDA II
xda2 only
So it is not possible to change the startuppic of my xda1
correct
I have the same displacement problem. I'll look into it on the weekend
very nice app so far, thx
my images are also slightly displaced though, maybe 10 pixels to the right

...Third day I spend to find how to persuade mine i-mate to use it's extended ROM as backup image source ... Have some troubles, maybe someone will be interested:
1. I've started from filling extended ROM with .CABs needed by me. Great. It works but I want to have more. So for now I am "on research":
2. I have installed all needed software and configured mine device to consist of all needed soft and settings for me.
Than I made self extracted image of my device (registry, \Storage, \Windows, etc.) except of Storage Card, of course, by SPRITE SOFTWARE BACKUP.
I get about 10 megabytes self-extracting .exe, named (for example)
_install.exe and I have wrote it in ROM file and include in config.txt string like this:
EXEC:\Extended_ROM\_install.exe
but I meet some troubles, and stuck...
1. that self-extractor looking to place one runtime dll from itself in current directory where it is. Of course it can't (rom is readonly for it).
And it fails with the 'cant extract DLL...' error, and... That's it!
After that I need to install any RegEdit manually from SD card, change registry for Exteneded_ROM to be visible, manually copying file _install.exe from that ROM to \temp\, than run - and only after that I bring my backup image to life...
Does config.txt supports some kind of commands like COPY for me to copy that .exe from Extended_ROM to \temp\ and then run?
Or config.txt have no ability to make copies of files?
Than, hypothethically, I need another simple programm like copy.exe to do this manually from command line?
After all this I just expect to get restored image of mine Himalaya already packed with soft and configured for me...
Fellows, what you think about it?
One more: how to exclude config.txt from being visible in PocketWord if I want to left extended_ROM to be open? (for ex. I put there .exe's that don't require installation)?
Sorry for mine English
-------
BTW: GREAT LITTLE DEVICE, after first XDA it's like more oxygenic ... O3 (ozoned .
Yes, config.txt supports COPY commands, check this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=6648
To make the ext-rom visible you can also edit one of the cab-files which only updates registy settings with WinCE Cab - Manger and add the registry setting to make ext-rom visible ( I think it is :
HKLM\System\StorageManger\Profiles\TRUEFFS_DOC
MountFlag 0 : but check this... )
Alex
WOW! THANKS! I supposed about CPY1: CPY2: cause I saw them in autorun.exe with hex editor... So It is! great... Let's try...
I'll write results here.
Only weary thing that I neen every time to rewrite all ROMs (somewhy when I delete Nk.nbf & radio rom and left only extended rom - upgrade will not end normally and device after hardreset enters into bootloader...
IT WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
YES! From empty Himalaya after hardreset I now recieve FULLY LOADED MINE device! even with setted up today and all else !
Wow!. .
Here is attached make_visible_Extened_RAM.CAB sized in 400 bytes - it will just only modificate registry to make Exteneded_ROM subdir visible.
Maybe someone will need it.
Hi all
Allthough I'm sure this topic is probably to be found somewhere on the net, it's not here in my fav forum.
If you want to change your startup sound, open a reg edit and go to:
\HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\Startup and change the WAV key to anything you want (I mean the path.)
Your start up sound wav MUST be in the windows dir on the phone, I found that out by trying, what happens is that your card isn't loaded before the all windws **** is so if you enter a SC sound you will not hear it.
If you want to change the shutdown sound, same as above but go to Shutdown there you CAN use a sound on your SC.
And EVEN if you don't turn off your phone that often it's just fun to have different sounds LOL.
For the REAL Startrek lovers check those sounds:
http://www.df.lth.se/~ghost/startrek/startrek_sounds.shtml
Have fun
Greetz
Djslash
What ROM version do you have? Have you tried get rid of the default Cingular startup image? The sound is easy to change/remove but the wallpaper not.
Thanks for the Star Trek sounds
Found to replace the startup/shutdown images
Replace the CWS.gif in the \windows folder with whatever you like. But this method doesn't change the very initial startup image. You will understand what i say once you try. Anyone have any idea to completely replace the statup image?
very initial satrtup image is image in rom and names as 05_MainSplash.nb, and initial startup image on external screen is 04_ExtROM.nb
Actualy I did try indeed to change the shutdown logo (and startup) but I got nothing, so I placed the original back, and it is in deed the CWS file. Even though I got an error on copy to my device it DID replace the original.
Maybe the file has to be a certai size?
If someone know!
I'll keep on playing as well ;-)

BTW: nice to see the "startrek" thread alive.
Can replace them?

I see. But is there a way to replace them with the similar *.nb files from the old DOPOD rom?
no, it is impossible to flash anything unofficial (eg new initial bootscreen) to startrek
I've just managed to ahem, persuade Orange UK to sim unlock my Niki 12 weeks early.
The next thing I'd like to do is replace the orange boot splash screen to one of my own.
Maybe with one of R'kids stunning paintings http://www.artworkbysteve.co.uk/
Do I first need to CID unlock my Niki to do this?
Is there any software that is capable of doing this without bricking my phone?
I've done this previously with my wizard, but I'm still a little unsteady on my feet,
I need clear easy to follow step by step newbie instructions if anybody has the time.
Any help greatly appreciated,
Cheers.

To change the actual boot splash which contains the operator logo and ROM info text you need to flash it! the TD (Niki) has 4 splash screen as follows:
1-Primary Splash (Operator Logo)
2-Secondary Splash again operator logo with the ROM Protocol info at the bottom of screen in red.
3-Splash Gif animation
4-Splash Welcomehead i.e. WM6 splash you get before Today loads.
Splash 3 and 4 can easily be changed as mentioned here. I think what you need is to change Splash 1 and 2 if you want to get rid of the Orange logo however this can only be done through flashing (via customRUU) so you must make sure your TD has HardSPL otherwise you will end up bricking the device if you haven't check this thread:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=355730
At the moment I can only change the 1st Splash but can't seem to change the 2nd splash once I can figure out how, I will post the necessary files here
Here is a thread that shows how change your PrimarySplash screen. You do need to flash it, but its not that hard to do.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=361287
second one is easy to change. Just rename any .png picture to welcomehead.96.png and put in Windows folder on phone, replacing the one that's there. Then soft reset.
Thanks
Cheers fellas, I appreciate your help.
odd problem with Welcomehead 96
Tried overwriting the welcomehead.96 file but it can't be overwritten,
checked the properties of the file and all the options (read only etc) are greyed out?
Copied the file to my hard drive and it cannot be seen, even when I have the show hidden files folder option checked?
I'd hazard a guess that the PNG file is hard coded to the memory chip? so a Rom flash may be needed?
But I still can't work out why the copied PNG on my hard drive would behave the way it is,
maybe just having a thick attack.
I haven't come across this before, can anyone shed some light on it?

You can't overwrite files in the windows folder with the built in file explorer use Resco File Explorer or download freeware Total Commander from here: http://www.ghisler.com/pocketpc.htm
Thanks
Cheers gfreek,
I overwrote welcomehead 96 as recommended with Total Commander.

Here's how I changed both the 1st & 2nd Splash screens on my Wife's Touch Dual:
First create two splash screens (.i.e. PrimarySplash.nb & SecondarySplash.nb) using the methods & tools mentioned in PDAViet site.
1. Use Dark Simpson HTC ROM Tool
2. Select 'Hermes' as device
3. Fill in 'NIKI***' as Model ID (Instead of 'HERM***')
4. Select your Primary & Secondary Splash
5. Create the NBH file
6. Flash with the Touch Dual CustomRUU extracted from Niki Project's ROM.
Cheers!

Update***SOLVED*** Once again thanks [email protected] for pointing me in the right direction however, to create the two splash (.i.e. PrimarySplash.nb & SecondarySplash.nb) using the methods & tools mentioned in PDAViet site and here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=361287 is "NOT COMPATIBLE WITH NIKI" hence the reason I ended up getting corrupted splash screens (see the images in my last post)
The Correct Procedure is as Follows:
1. Make sure you have HardSPL installed if not get it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=355730
2. Create a BMP file in paint, size must be 240x320, save it as BMP 24bit.
3. Get SplashTool from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334904
4. Load your BMP on nb_image_converter (included in SplashTool's zip) and save it as PrimarySplash do the same load another BMP and this time save as SecondarySplash
5. Open SplashTool.exe and convert both PrimarySplash.nb and SecondarySplash.nb to new format.
6. Use Dark Simpson HTC ROM Tool get it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=311909
7. Select 'Hermes' as device
8. Fill in 'NIKI***' as Model ID (Instead of 'HERM***')
9. Select your Primary & Secondary Splash
10. Create the NBH file
11. Flash with the Touch Dual CustomRUU get it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=356259
Enjoy your new splash screen

thanks.
Un Saludo.
ever since wm6.1 came my cedit shows funny fonts if i open any xml file on my mobile to edit may be its due to fonts ,cedit uses something like single pitched fonts as it says so i have 2 options left
1st > ask you people for xml editor other than cedit.
or 2nd > may switch back to font type which wm5 and gullum VII versions used (that is if fonts hav't changed ever since then cedit won't give any problem.)
I'm not entirely sure about the functionality of cedit, but I have written a very basic xml viewer/editor. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2112634
(Edit) Sorry, I should have read the original posting better. The following is a windows version and therefore offtopic, but maybe anyway helpful:
Some time ago I have written a nice litte XML Editor, maybe it helps someone. It can even show the XML as treeview. If you want to distribute it anywhere else, please send me a note.
Sounds much better than mine!

in the rar i gave courier is shown to be 180kb and can directly be copied to dumprom dump folder for neokit users just need to refresh packages, but i gave all of them (15 files in total i guess)since i think "mtsorts" and "symbolmt" fonts are important too ,for cedit only courier new in this rar solves the problem that is 180Kb .
ps. cour.ttf might be hidden so you need to disable do not show hidden files to see it.

Sweeeeet WM XML Editor

I'm currently using it now. Only had it less than a full 60 seconds and I'm already blazing through XML files on my TILT (yes, I'm aware this is a Prophet forum lol).
The actual program is for WM5.0 but I'm running a ROM w/ WM6.5 and it's nooooo problem! Just click the link above and it'll take you to the Save File dialog for the .cab file ^_^ Quick and utterly painless. Only thing I did was go in w/ Total Commander, find an .xml file, go to Properties then associated .xml files w/ the program's .exe =D Might have autoassociated if I opened up the file first but I had previously associated Word Mobile in some attempt to rig up the opening of the file =]
Think you're supposed to buy it but you have 14 days to tinker w/ it. I may see if I can just uninstall/reinstall and see if that clears it. Likely wont but may can find a reg setting for it =] I dont know how much it costs (didn't check that far lol) but I might be very likely to buy it if it doesnt cost very much. It's awfully handy either way!
G'luck!

i recently bought a hermes when my wizard died and am trying to cook a WM5 rom for it, but i cant get rid of this DAMN 2nd splash screen.
i got the first one changed, but i cant get the 2nd.
any help would be apperciated.
Select a pic you like, make it 240 by 320, change to a png and rename welcomehead.96.png . Paste in windows folder. Reset, 2nd flash pic changed.
Cheers...
tried that, it replaces the windows splash. Im trying to replace the 2nd one, not the windows one >.<
thanks though
Alright i got it, i had to edit a file in the extended rom, but it worked.

You can also use rom koch to make the nb files a .nbh file.
You should be able to download it from here.
