Roaming ...
It may be that the signal that the phone recieves is one of T-Mobile's Roaming Partners. Check to see if the network is set to automatic or if someone has put it manually on Cingular.

I bought a new att 8525 about a month ago it came with an ATT 3G sim card
I have a Thailand phone and SIM card(the network is AIS)with international roaming. Before I bought the 8525 when i would be in the U.S., I would just use my thai cellphone, an old tri- band nokia and when in the states It would automatically conect to Tmobiles' gsm network(1900 frequency I think)
On the 8525, The phone was locked of course so that the thai sim would not work. I ran Pof's program Auto unlock v3a. I put the AIS sim back in the phone and it worked and automatically conected on Tmobile's gsm network . I was exstatic!!!
Then... I caught a plane back to thailand. While between planes in Taipei I turned on my phone with the Thai sim and it connected !!! I was still exstatic!!!
THEN...I landed in Bangkok thailand. Turned my phone on and it will not recognize any netwoks other than some weird 1900 gsm network that I have never heard of. It does not recognize either AIS or DTAC or Orange which are the big three in Thailand.
I took my Thai sim out of the 8525 and put it back in my old nokia phone and it immediately conected to the AIS gsm network.
So it appears my new 8525 phone is not recognizing 900 and 1800 gsm networks. Pof's program definately ulocked the sim because it doesnt ask for an unlock code. I read the NO gsm issue but I am not sure that is this issue because the phone does appear to recognize 1900 gsm both here and remember it did conect to Tmobile 's 1900 gsm network in the states.
So the issue is recognition of 900 and 1800 gsm.
What can I do? Can someone please help?
Thank you in advance

Have you checked to see what is enabled under the bands tab in the Settings > Phone panel?
Possibly, something is disabled there. It is possible that you have a resricted setting. If you do not have the "Band" tab visible, the registry hack is in the wiki or certainly somewhere. Try the google search link in my signature.
registry tweaked to add band tab but still havea problem
Thanks for the advice.Sure enough the band tab was not visible so I tweaked the registry to ad the band tab.
However when I try to change the gsm band from"auto" to 900/1800 I get a messsage that says :
"Warning unable to change gsm/umts band, please try again later."
regardless ofhow band setting are changed, auto./gsm, my phone still only detects the 1900 gsm band. arrrgh!
I have since my last post also updated my radio to 1.50,still nothing.
any elpis gretaly appreciated.

"Warning unable to change gsm/umts band, please try again later."
This ussually means there's a live connection somewhere. Make sure your disconnected from gprs, internet, etc., then your manual band changes will take.
thank to everyone that makes this forum possible
Problem solved after i shut down the phone, inserted my att sim, then phone all of a sudden starting recognizing all the 900/1800 networks here(asia/thailand). I then shut off the phone, inserted my thai ais sim and it also started picking up the networks. Not sure why I was geting the warning message .If it is due to having a live conection somewhere, my gprs was not configured on the new phone yet for thai/ais simand would not connect.
Anyway thanks you all for this forum. Now I will read , read read some more on the best 6.0 ROM for my phone.

Hi,
i have Motorola Photon rooted and unlocked, i live on the border with Mex also i have this phone with a Mexican Telcel SIM Card, works perfect on Mex, but when i back to USA i lost the Mex network and the phone start to search for networks and i just see Sprint network, but i can't receive or made phone calls on sprint network roaming, if i remove the sim card and put the sim on my HTC i can see more networks, sprint, AT&T, verizon, etc and i can go in to roaming and works perfect, i can made and receive calls on roaming, but if i back the sim to the Photon i just find a sprint network only and the roaming service not work..
what can i do to see more networks on my photon?? i need receive calls from mex on this phone..
thanks in advance
You need to flash the kddi radio. That should fix your roaming issues. After that you need to set the mobile network to GSM only

I bought a Lumia 925 that was on T-Mobile. The settings show SIM Unlock, and with a MetroPCS sim, I just get no service. The cellular network does have MetroPCS as an option and allows me to select it.
I called MetroPCS about it, and they advised they just have to activate it on their end. But, since they don't have the 925 in their system, they can't activate it. Does this sound right? I would assume this phone would work on MetroPCS with no problem. If anything, I'll just switch to T-Mobile.

Metro PCS is owned and operated by T-Mobile so they are essentially the same company and on the same network. Metro is just a cheaper T-Mobile. They only operate on the 1900 frequency and not 850. The Lumia you have operates on both but you will only get coverage if you are in a strong 1900 area. I would suggest you Google their network settings and set up your phone manually and see if you can get a connection. i think they are just being lazy and not offering to help on a phone they did not sell.
Ok, so I did some investigating today. I don't know how true any of this is, but this is what it came to: A device has to be a registered device on MetroPCS's network in order to be used. The sim is actually registered to a device, unlike using a sim on AT&T or T-Mobile. Since the 925 isn't in the system, it won't work.
I will actually just stick with T-Mobile since they have comparable plans and I can feed my need of switching phones every few months.
I see this comes up on the front page of Google if you search for this specific inquiry, so I hope it helps others.
I bought a Note ii clone from China http://www.dhgate.com/product/1-1-n7100-note-2-mtk6589-quad-core-android/160552013.html It states that it has850/2100 WCMA 3G bands, and i am on Virgin mobile in Canada which is a WCDMA network only that uses 850/1900 and LTE thus i figured it would work. I put in the SIM card and the phone right away told me my phone number and that it is a Virgin SIM i was extremely happy. Yet it said no service when i asked for the phone to connect automatically it said can not connect to network now please try later. When i searched manually it cound Virgin 3G and then again when i chose it i got the same message! I have factory reset the phone and have restarted it taking the battery and SIM out. I have downloaded Mobileuncle and it states the phone actually not only has the 850 but also the 1900 WCDMA bands, now i am baffled. Am i doing something wrong? why is it not working? I have it set at auto gsm/wcdma for preferred and nothing. I did try the second SIM slot with a Rogers SIM and it worked for GSM as the second SIM is only GSM, Also in unclemobile under engineer mode>engineer mode (android)> phone information it states the phone is on GSM auto (PRL) and i have changed it to different settings, but they wont stick, every time i change it get out and come back the GSM auto (PRL) comes back, any way to fix this to WCDMA preffered and make it stick? Is this the issue? Since 2 days ago Canada has a new blacklist for stolen phones i checked the list just to make sure, but the IMEI number isn't blacklisted.
I have input all the info. i know and things i tried, if anyone can help with this or have any suggestions i would be grateful!
Thanks in advance/
I am traveling in Asian and my phone won't connect to any local carriers for roaming at all. It just says no signal at all times. I have enabled roaming access and played around with network mode to no avail. Network search does show a bunch of local carriers. Was I supposed to contact Verizon when I was still in the States to allow international roaming?
I have also tried a local prepaid simcard and the result was the same -- no signal and no connection. I thought all Verizon phones come sim unlocked?
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Yes you have to turn international roaming on through verizon
