Tried to upgrade my XDA O2 which has ROM 3.17.03Eng, Radio:4.21.00 with i-Mate but the Update programm hangs after starting the Upgrade process
This update is for an XDA II, not an original XDA.
USA Version?
I have ROM Version 1.03.00 USA
What is WWE ?
Is there a USA update as well?
Thanks.

Our guess is that WWE stands for "World Wide English". They probably found the term USA was confusing too many people that throught it wouldn't work on their phones. We're right around now doing some research into the upgrade process, and we've already turned one XDA II into a paperweight (but we're in the process of turning it back into an XDA II again).
The 1.60 will install on your phone, you'll then get the T-Mobile personality and Spb GPRS Monitor, which I feel is a nice bonus.
Othman and XDA developer Peter Poelman
Thanks for the info. A few questions..
1. It seems that this upgrade includes the radio stack upgrade and the Pocket PC upgrade. Is that correct? I ask since it seems from this forum that radio upgrades are best avoided. If XDA developer Peter Poelman has turned his XDA II into a paperweight, what will become of us mere mortals?
2. Any noticeable improvements or changes in this upgrade? What else, if anything is bundled into this upgrade?
3. I assume it does not change the IMEI or device serial number?
4. After the upgrade, can you restore installed/added software from a backup or will each software have to be individually re-installed?
5. Is it country or area specific in any way?
to Othman:
I found that the i-mate is behaving in a slower way than the Qtek. Sometimes, the screen freezes for some seconds, and then it goes on. No need to soft reset, but simply wait. As if the display is slower than the CPU itself. In the end, this is annoying. On another hand, when someone calls you, it rings two to three times on his phone before it starts ringing on yours.
After the upgrade to the new ROM, did you notice any siginifcant improvement to the i-mate? Are these problems solved (at least in part) ?
Thanks
BIG PROBLEM, NEED HELP: we upgraded for our Customer one i-Mate XDA II and now it do not "see" network! Where a can find old Radio Module to downgrade?
Victor - I would start here http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=3687
Can anyone advise if there is the option of backing up/saving the existing ROM/Radio onto an SD Card directly from the device itself?
From what I understand, this option existed in XDA. Is it possible in XDA II/imate?

You can backup your deveice using XDAtools, it is easy it is the same as the old XDA, when backing up you device, but it will backup only the operating system,"nb.nbf" or "nb.nb1" not including the radio_.nbf and ms_.nbf for additional software installed.
I just upgraded to the 'official' i-mate version. Took about 30 minutes and no problems.
One noticeable difference right away is that the phone switch off is faster (within a couple of seconds compared to 10-15 in the past).
Also, the SanDisk Wi-Fi software would install in the past but the installation progress indicator would freeze on the device. With the upgrade, that installation went very smoothly and without freezing up.
The LED continues to blink red after a missed call until it is reviewed - unlike in the past where it would switch back to green itself after a minute or so
do not forget the phone is very fast now after the upgrade whitch is a very good thing
Upgraded too
eXpansys (whom I bought my i-Mate from) posted a link to the download too and it upgraded fine.
I did however only do a sync, and so after the upgrade had to personalise the thing all over again (all installed software, settings etc). Not sure if a full backup would have been any better, would it have restored ok? Ah well. There now
oh that's cool
Hello IanF
can you please tell us if eXpansys mentioned what are the things this upgrade fix since i can't find any info at their web site about this ! and is it possible to share with us the link of download or at least tell us about the ROM version.
thanks with best regards.

Sorry no
Sorry, no they did not.
I upgraded blindly in the hope it would give more BlueTooth support, but alas no.
Ian
imate Arabic Support for 1.6 upgrade
Does the 1.6 upgrade support Arabic, such as the 7 mb arabic upgrade file from clubimate
Anyone knows if this upgrade will work on my Qtek 2020..
Thanks in advance...
You are better off with the T-mobile upgrade, since i-mate club does not permit non-i-mate owners (I own a Qtek too) to get the upgrade.
I got the T-mobile 1.60 upgrade, and it runs very smooth, and FASTER in many ways (some minor bugs already found, more on that later) The phone part is greatly improved, as is the Bluetooth support for GPS.
Unfortunately Handsfree profile for BT is NOT supported.
You may follow the threads to the T-mobile upgrade, since the one for Qtek (Dangaard) was removed.
Good luck!
Handsfree profile not supported? My O2 XDA II with T-Mobile 1.6 rom works fine with my Sony Ericsson HBH-65 headset and my Sony Ericsson HCB-30 carkit ....

Dopod CHT 9000 Latest ROM does it solve Screen Misalignment
One BIG question : Does it solve Screen Misalignment Issue?
Is it Chinese OS?
1. It's Traditional Chinese, not English;
2. Screen alignment is a hardware problem. Suggest return to retailer for replacement.
Cheers
Some said Software some said Hardware
I read from the threads mentioning that this might be a software issue.
However I did receive email from Dopod Taiwan saying that they would replace the unit at no cost.
Too bad I am in the States and has no plan going to Taiwan soon.
They give time limit until August 31.
it's more SW... since :
1) It's improves after hard reset
2) Not all people changed their unit got rid of the issue
3) Not SN specific, some with HT63XXX still has issue
4) Some upgrade their ROM, and got rid of the issue
5) A guy in HK, used the digitizer driver for 838 non-pro, and fixed his issue.
Goodluck
You were Right! It's Software Issue
I was surprised when I upgraded my Dopod CHT to the latest Dopod 838 Pro ROM, My Screen Misalignment is GONE! At least for the last three days, I've never had to align my screen. I have O2 Plus Installed and Opera Browser as well. I tested these couple days and Scrolling that was "Pain in the Butt"now become very smooth and never get stuck or mistap. Therefore, I conclude that this Screen Misalignment is purely 100% ROM issue.
well... Congrats...!!!
Let us know which version you used...and if the misalignment returns.
Did you load up your 3rd party apps yet ? You need to monitor after loading these apps.

Perhaps not 100%, I seem to recall people saying that when the device gets hotter, the screen misaligns more easily. And I have noticed that some ROM's like the TyTN that mine was shipped with made the device hotter. Allthou, I never have had any problems myself, so not totally sure. There could also be several different causes for misaligment, for eg. ROM, 3rd party apps, device temperature...
My unit does not misalign when it's hot. There is time that I just power on and misalign happened.
I just Hard reset my unit and loaded all apps as before and I had not have misalign (yet?) for 2 days now...
Chinese Question: CHT9000 or Dopod 838 Pro
I have a CHT9000 but but like to have English Menu with Simplified Script Chinese input. Chinese menu is just akward.
I think my options are:
1. Keep CHT9000 ROM and use handwritting (no pinyin)
2. Flash to Dopod 838 Pro ROM & install some chinese software? I don't know what that is.
Would anyone care to provide some guidance?
Two Chinese language systems I've tried: Maction Monster Chinese and Mobem's CE-Star. Both correctly render Chinese (simplified and traditional). Only CE-Star works correctly with keyboard. If you don't intend to use Chinese handwriting, download "standard" version. I prefer Hanyu Pinyin input, it handles this very nicely. Can select between traditional and simplified directly from the SIP. Currently using CE-Star r2.8 for 10-weeks with no complaints.
As may have already been mentioned, to allow your keyboard extended characters to correctly map, you'll need to modify the QWERTY entry:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\Qwerty]
"Layout"=dword:00020404

CHT9000 in Chinese to English
Dear all knowledgeable people,
After my long standing friend (Nokia 9500) died of aging problems, after shopping around I decided to go for the Dopod CHT 9000.
Unfortunately in Taiwan there is no English version and, since my Chinese capabilities are not that good, I am struggling with my nice little phone.
Can anyone help to change into English?!!
May be this has been posted before, please redirect me accordingly
Info on changing ROM is in the Wiki:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_UpgradeFAQ
I'm using the Dopod ROM on my CHT9000. It's available Original Shipped ROM Versions section. Read the instructions clearly before upgrading -- process takes 20-25 minutes. When finished, it'll reset and install external ROM tweaks. After installing, another reset will bring up the date and carrier setting wizard that'll take care of your GPRS/UMTS settings in Taiwan.
Cheers

Indee, it is understood. But I still get the error because th CID does not macht and, per this "So, you need a ROM with bootloader 1.04 and with a CID that matches the CID on your device, this is the only known way to downgrade the bootloader to 1.04 and then, you will be able to flash a ROM with any CID" as in the FAQ, where can I find the CHT 9000 ROM with a bootloader 1.04 that would match my CID?!
Sorry for my ignorance, but some of the things are not straight forward for everyone.
Thanking you allin Advance

Thank you very much. It worked!!!
I think for future references, it should be explained like this:
1- Download the original CHT version with bootloader 1.04 in order to downgrade the bootloader 1.06.
2- Download the desired ROM, then flash it.
CHT9000, glad you found your solution.
I'm a little confused though -- are you working with a stock CHT9000? Did it come with bootloader 1.06? That would be news!
Your original note said you simply wanted to change from Chinese to English. The CID for first two version ROMs of CHT9000 is DOPOD001. Same as dopod WWE ROMs (v1.23). Switching back and forth is trouble-free.
Unless you installed a non-dopod ROM (e.g., Cingular v1.31 or 1.34), you wouldn't have the bootloader v1.06 problem. This problem is described under "Common Upgrading Problems in HTC Hermes", Problem #3(B).

My ignorance might have killed the possibility of having this ROM uploaded here :-((, yes, it came with an original 1.06 bootloader, I just got it from CHT last week on contract.
So, as I said earlier, I used this one "RUU_HER_ChungHwa_1.25.751.4_1.07.03.10_CHT_SHIP" that replaced my bootloader to 1.04 and then when I installed the English version "HER_DopodAsia_1237074_1060010_WWE_SHIP" and everything went well. My Chungwa Telecom menu has gone and, seems like I can not make video calls, but as long as this website exists along with all the good people, I will fix that one.
I will definitely make a donation, let me just figure out how to do it, I think is going to be the best well spent money of my entire life.
These are the instructions I spent many hours looking for. Also, I know most people know, but just in case... Loading a ROM does wipe your device. Make sure you have all your info synced or backed up someplace.
- Doc
First, I Followed andykwg's instructions to the letter:
(here is his Post, but in case you dont want to go there, here are the instructions)
ANDYKWG:
Thanks POF, my 8525 is unlocked, but I have gone through hell with Vista so just to let you all know that "don't try these upgrades on VISTA".
I have read many posts and finally got it to unlock. In any case, here is what I did (on a XP box with activeSYNC 4.2 - it is running all the time for each of the steps below):
1) on XP, connect the phone to XP and make sure ActiveSync see the phone. Run the exe in 1.30 ROM for Cingular to download the SPL to 1.04. After this the phone will reboot/restart itself.
2a) On XP, with ActiveSync running and connected, run POF's MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe within the unlocker v2a xip file to upgrade the radio to version 1.16. If it fails with ERROR 114, go to step (3); else go to step (2b).
2b) If the first time failed, DON'T TOUCH THE PHONE. Run the exe again and the second time should run fine. There is a 114 error at the end and it is OK. Once you get the 114 error, soft-reset the phone before next step.
3) On the phone, flash with POF's unlocker (v2a) ON THE PHONE MEMORY HERM_Unlock_v2a.exe (in the zip file same as above download for unlock v2a). There is a success notice at the end.
That is it. Hope this help someone.
Andy
DocHoliday:
Now, what Andy Doesn't say here, and people have asked, is Yes, you are now unlocked and SuperCID.
Ok, I went a step further.
I loaded the South African 1.35 ROM. Why? Faster and about 15% more battery life to boot! There are a few things to consider before you go to SA 1.35. Your boot loader will now be SPL-1.09. Make sure your device is unlocked before you go to this ROM! If it is unlocked and SuperCID, it will remain unlocked and SuperCID after the ROM Update. If you installed the update before unlocking, I think you are out of luck. I have seen some threads that say you can change back to SPL-1.04, but nothing conclusive.
3 things you will notice after you load this ROM and how to fix them:
1. Keyboard Special Characters are out of Sync with the Keyboard (-, _, ;, :, etc...)
Most people said a registry entry fixed theirs, it did not for me. Here is what worked. Download this Extended ROM. Copy ShortString_Keypad_XML.CAB to your SD, then run it. Softboot, then Keyboard Special Characters are fixed!
2. Keyboard BackLight:
Disable the light sensor! With the SA ROM, the light sensor is too sensitive and doesnt work properly. To disable: Settings (on the 8525), Buttons, Backlight tab - Clear The Checkmark! Keyboard backlight now works when you press any key.
3. May not be a problem for some, but Phone skin is God Awful Lime Green! Yuck! (my opinion...)
Fix Phone Skin an download the skin of your choice...
Anyway, Hope this Helps someone. Took me a while to research and I wish I had my post when I first started. Many thanks to POF and the other contributors to XDA without which we would be limited to the ROM's the Carriers stuck us with! Good Luck all!
great
Thanks!!!! I want the perfect 8525 rom/radio/ext rom. Trying to decide what radio to include.
sucess with cingular 8525 1.34.502.1
thanks d0ch0liday..i loaded a t-mobile sim and started working right away.
Glad you guys got some use out of it.
It may be buried somewhere in the instructions, but definitely make sure you have a solid USB connection to your computer. Definitely DO NOT try an upgrade going through a USB hub!
Also make sure your battery is well charged... ;-)
Excellent advice, thanks...
some folks at ebay are selling Unlocked 8525s (like in this link), i am curious that if I buy one of these, will it be definitely SuperCID?
Hi there...long time no using a WM device and all the things with this CID and locked devices become a bit complicated to me...So I bought a M3100 unlocked with pof V2 and I have successfully upgraded my Radio version to 1.27.00...but now I want to upgrade the ROM too...I assume that my device is CID unlocked as I was able to upgrade the radio only...but a strange thing...I have no extended ROM on it...so can I upgrade my current rom with the SA 1.35 rom without problems...?
Regards and sorry for the noob question

Probably not SuperCID. These look like they may have been obtained directly from HTC or they may be test units. They say new, but you new means never opened. It doesnt tell you how long they have been on the shelf. Since they are HTC, even if they were test units you would probably be ok. Anyway, you would probably still have to do POF's unlock to get it to SuperCID. Hope this helps...

i really don't think they are test units..any way, do you think it's a good idea to buy one of these? they're like 200 bucks cheaper than tytn... btw, can I update them later on through Cingular's website? and is it possible for my device to become Locked on some carrier again if i flash it with the wrong Rom?

Definitely not SIM locked. If it is not SuperCID and you plan to switch ROMs from different carriers, then make sure you CID unlock it prior to do any upgrade.
thank you pof!
just one more thing, have they ever shipped 8525 with bootloader 1.09? if they do, is it possible in any way to flash a rom from another carrier after CID Unlocking it?

First this is an excellent Primer for those of us with Cingular phones ( or people like me who have one on order and want to be ready to tinker )
Has anyone found a reason that the SA ROM causes the light sensor issue?
Also is there a way to bring the phone back to virgin/stock if the need were to arrise (as in the phone died)?
quick question from 8525 users: what is the input voltage range for 8525's travel charger? is it 110-220 or just 110?

Not sure why the light sensor happens. I also noticed it happened with the 1.30 ROM as well. This is the ROM you load to downgrade to the 1.04 bootloader. I didnt really like the sensor anyway as it definately did not do well in ambient light. As far as getting it back to Cingular stock, just load the latest Cingular ROM 1.34 and it should be close enough. Thanks for the compliment. I wrote this just for that purpose. I spent quite a while looking for all the answers, I learned alot, which is i think POF's and the others intent. But it was very consuming and wanted to save others the uncertainty of not following in someone's footsteps. Again, thanks.

I also just received this text message but sadly this is the same WM5 ROM that was released a few weeks back. Nothing new (to people that frequent here anyhow)
They must be getting ready for the WM6 release.
Hi, I'm quite new to the forum and I do apologize if this has been covered. I just don't know where to look for the answer.
Is there away to upgrade to the ROM that was texted to me from cingular/at&t on a MAC?
TIA
iNfEk
Apparently I have a very old ROM on my 8525 and wanted to upgrade.
ROM Version: 1.34.502.1
ROM Date: 09/26/07
Radio Version: 1.16.00.00
Protocol Version: 32.53.7018.01H
This is the first time that I have received a message to upgrade. I have NOT had the phone that long. I'd say a couple of months at the most.

You will need something like Paralells or bootcamp to do it. I would recommend thoroughly testing the connection reliability. I use a 15" MBP C2Duo all the time - but the connection can be tricky - test with some flash screen flashes or something relatively harmless. Check out www.mrvanx.org for help on flashing in general.
oops... LOL It's supposed to be 09/26/06
yes I use parallels and decided to try it on my own ATM. I'm in the middle of doing it now.
The screen has 4 colors on it (red, green, blue, white)
HERM100
IPL-1.01
HERM100
SPL-1.06
and on the white area it says USB
I decided to stop and wait for a reply
I disconnected and hit the reset button on the bottom of the phone. should I update since my ROM version is quite old?

Yes, but only if you will read the guide I posted first. If done properly, there is little to fear. If not, then you could screw up your device. If you will read through the guide and follow each step (incliding HardSPL flashing), then GO FOR IT! If not, best leave it for another time.
Thanks, I'm looking at the site already. man these types of phones are completely different than the other types of phones that I've previously dealt with. the lingo is completely different
thanks though. I'll be sure to read the guides.
ok so i tried to follow the guide on my MBP C2Duo and when getting to the part with the Hard SPL I got an error about my connection. Am I doing something wrong?
Fair warning - I'm using my unlocked ATT/Cingular 8525 on Telstra in Oz and the upgrade removed my ability to access the internet with my Telstra SIM.
Darn it.

How are running windows - paralells, bootcamp, ???
What version of windows - XP, Vista?
Does ActiveSync see the connection in windows?
Before you upgrade, there are a few issues you should know about the new version.
1.- You won't be able to access streaming media through IE,you can only access streming through pay software included (Att music, XM, etc) and you won't be able to use your own subscription to XM, you'll have to pay ATT anyway to use it.
2.- You won't be able to go back to any previous version unless you use an external bootloader
3.- The alarm goes off only when you have flight mode off, (I always turn it on at 5 pm so guys at work or customers won't bother me)

Just re-enter your Telstra carrier's GPRS settings, mms as well if you use it.
Most custom roms and definately other carrier's roms will not re-customize these for you. You should save off the relevant cab files from your EXT-ROM before you flash with an "unapproved (by your carrier)" ROM.

I had to enable Start > Settings > Connections > USB to PC > Enable advanced network functionality in order for ActiveSync / WMDC to see the phone and launch. However when following the tutorial on the site that you posted I kept receiving an error stating to check my connection. I followed everything to the T and still couldn't get it to work. Finally frustrated I just tried the new ROM that was posted and I was able to successfully upgrade it.
The weird thing is that even though I received the message to allow an unaproved (by your carrier) message and allowed it... It seemed to do what it's supposed to. Meaning that I got the screen with the 4 colors and the new version number and everything but for some reason the phone would NOT restart and then eventually the software would time out.
Any ideas? am I still able to do that update?
This was done through Parallels not through bootcamp and I did everything required for Vista prior to doing the update. This version of Vista is Ultimate OEM and fully licensed. I also had to download the WMDC from microsoft as stated in the tutorial as well. That installed but same problems
Thanks
Now that I have the AT&T ROM loaded I do NOT have "enable advanced network fnctionality" enabled and I have successfully connected my MBP to my phone via bluetooth PAN. I am able to get online with that connection type and I have also been able to browse the web on the phone through IE.
So, I am not exactly sure where we are atm. It sounds like you *did* get the new ROM on the phone? Things seem to be working?
Is there more that you need? Are you just trying to figure out the USB connection to the MBP now?
Sorry, but I am confused

yes, I did get the new ROM onto the phone but I did NOT do what you had asked me to do though. I tried to follow the tutorial BEFORE doing the AT&T ROM since that should keep everything safe from harm but it didn't work. being discouraged at all the time I spend on that side I decided to just load the ROM that AT&T told me to download and that was a success.
Will I or do I need to do the Hard SPL and other things on the site you posted earlier to make sure my info isn't messed up when modding the phone later on?
this is my first post and as you'll learn quickly i'm a total newbie. I'm such a newbie that you'll find a picture of me on the dictionary entry of noob. anyway, on to my problem.
About a month ago i purchased a HTC Hermes, more specifically AT&T 8525. My cell phone provider is T-Mobile. I googled AT&T 8525 unlocker and sure thing found this great unlocker. Free HTC Hermes SIM & CID Unlocker *New* version v3a. Needless to say the unlocking worked perfectly. My phone ran Windows Mobile 6.0 Pro.
Fast forward about three and a half weeks ago and my friend got the same phone off ebay. He has T-Mobile too and I told him i would unlock it for him since mine worked flawlessly. Well, his phone runs on Windows Mobile 5.0 Pro. I started the update process on the computer and here's what the screens looked like

}
My phone did not ask me to press yes. Then i checked the boxes on the setup and was ready to continue
After pressing next it showed this
The progress bar remained at zero then this screen came up
http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j120/mnn2k/phone/Untitled8.jpg
I have tried over and over again and get the same error. I have tried using different USB ports, USB cables, and two computers, both running vista but i have had no luck. now the phone is be in the tri-color mode and it won't do anything. All the screen says is
HERM100
IPL-1.01
HERM100
SPL-1.40.Olipro
If i can't fix it i guess i will have to give my friend my phone and will lose a lot of money. Any help is appreciated. I tried doing a search and all the posts can't help me since i don't know much at all when it comes to phones.

its a United States AT&T 8525. i tried flashing it with the Official HTC WM6 ROM from this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=316726 but now the progress bar goes to 11 then it gives me the same error. I'll have to try it on from a XP. on the Readme it says there might me a problem with ports. How do i check if there is a problem with that.
If i were you i would flash hard-spl v7 before you flash another rom.

If you are on vista make sure you download the latest version of wmdc from microsoft.
Then flash the most recent at&t rom from here
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Available Original Shipped WM6 ROM Versions
If this still doesn't work use an xp machine. If you can't use an xp machine there is a guide that explains how to swap the wmdc drivers for active sync ones.
http://www.anichillus.net/index.php?topic=21.0
why does everyone seem to point the main cause of problems to vista?
I have vista installed and i dont have any problem flashing with WMDC (latest version installed) and have updated vista with sp1 , i did used to have problems sync'ing the phone before i installed sp1 but afterwards i have had no problems and flashed a number of phones for people who had experienced the same thing as MNNK.
Anyway enough of my moaning. Basically i would flash an original rom. then try flashing hardspl . If the HTC one wont work try the network rom, that it was originally on, T-Mobile.
http://member.htc.com/downloadfiles/RomCode/TMobile/Hermes_WM6_TMUK_3.60.110.4.zip
THATS THE ONLY LINK I HAVE FOR T-MOBILE yeah i know its the uk one but might be handy for someone from the uk browsing this page because of the same problem
Or that at&t rom that johnston411 said

i found Schaps ROM and that worked. thanks for all the help. In your opinion which is the best cooked ROM.
Now you opened a can of worms.... Everyone thinks something else is best, & it is for them..... A rom is a personal choice so asking whats best is like your girlfriend asking if you think shes fat, THERE IS NO RIGHT ANSWER.....
Seriously though, do some research on the Hermes Mobile 6 part of the forum as I believe someones started an updated list of current roms.
Cheers.....

Okay, i'll stay away from that. but i still can't flash HardSPL on my phone. it gives me error 260.
1) i uncheck the allow USB connections on WMDC
2). i run the SPL-HERMES.exe on my phone and connect to usb.
3). run ruu_wrapper.exe
I also read the guide here http://www.mrvanx.org/hermes_guide/hardspl and nothing.
Then i tried using the Unlocker but that gives me the same error 260. i have tried the SD card method but mine is a 4gb microSDHC. my phone recognizes the card and i renamed the .nbh file. So i launch spl-herm.exe and nothing happens. i do hit the power button. still nothing.
When running SSPL-HERM.exe it says i have SPL-1.09.ds. when i do a manual bootload it says i have SPL-1.40.Olipro
what did you rename the image as when you placed it onto the sd card?
I know a lot of people have renamed the file incorrectly?
Also, I know people who SWEAR they formated fat32 but when I did it again using the same card freshly formatted it worked.

i did format it with fat32, quick format and normal format, default allocation size and 4096 bytes. i know i said i am a newbie when it comes to phones but i'm not one when it comes to computers. i would rather have Hard-SPL flashing first though, and also i have no Radio ROM currently on the phone.
The fact you have no radio is probably your BIGGEST problem. The no GSM error is what makes most bricks. Up til now there is no reliable surefire fix.
Looks like you have a PDA on your hands but no phone functionality. You can load an os only rom - generally they are the cooked roms, but you have more chance of jumping off a cliff and instantly growing usable wings than fixing this in a hurry...
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. but thats why the unlocker won't flash on, it replaces the radio rom to something that allows the sim/cid to be unlocked.
You should still be able to flash Hard SPL on but don't pick any roms with the radio cooked in as they WON'T flash.
Cheers...

yeah i kinda thought that was the case. Since the unlocker replaces the Radio ROM, but the frustrating thing is that the HardSPL isn't flashing. Stupid VISTA. Let's say i am able to flash HardSPL. can't i flash a Radio ROM only? or the original ROM found on the wiki.
Maybe, people somteime can recover their radio roms flashing a radio only rom or the original shipped rom, BUT, if this doesn't work then there seems little hope of you actually fixing this problem. There are quite a few threads with numerous "I got it working" posts but then those same people are back the next day bemoaning the fact that it didn't work. If by some miracle you do get it working, make sure you post what happened and how you fixed it but wait a day or two to check it really is fixed or just faking you out.
Good luck, I think you're gonna need it....
And don't get me started on Vista

WOW, first try on XP and HardSPL flashed like that (snap).
This post is supposed to help everyone who is new to Touch2, or at least new to Touch2 custom ROMs, and ROM flashing in general. If you have answers very to very general questions that might be missing here, please let me know in a reply. (Maybe this will eventually end up in the Wiki as well, there is no Touch2 section as of now)
1. What devices is this part of the XDA-Developers forum about?
This Area is all about the HTC Touch2. HTC's code name for it is MEGA. It also has a model number, which is T3333. Here is the specification at the HTC website. It looks like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",

"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Beware: There are other devices with similar names, like for example Touch PRO2 or Touch Dual. These are different devices, and have their own forums. Please do NOT use anything from the Touch2 for those other devices, it may "brick" (destroy) your device.
2. How do I identify my Touch2
First of all: If it doesn't look exactly like the picture above, it is not a Touch2. To be sure, shut down your device, open the rear cover, remove the battery. There it should say HTC Touch2 T3333.
You can also check on your device in System - Device Information - Identity. The Model No. should be HTC Touch2 T3333.
3. Touch2 Special Edition / T3320 / India Model
There is a Special Edition of the Touch2 with the Model Number T3320. It seems to be sold mainly in India, and does not have GPS or 3G (just GSM). It seems the Touch2 ROMs work OK (after HardSPL, see below) on both models, with GPS and 3G obviously not working on the T3320.
4. Why would I care about changing my ROM?
There are many reasons, but here are some of the most relevant:
- If you want a different language (some ROMs have selectable languages, but many don't, and officially you can not change the language of your device)
- If you want to have the newest Windows Mobile 6.5.5 instead of the standard 6.5
- If you want a "light" ROM, with many applications etc. removed, but more space
- If you enjoy tweaking your device, playing with it, etc.
Note: If you are fine with English as the language, but need a special keyboard and support for special characters for example in SMS, then there might not be a need for flashing another ROM. For example Arabic and Russian input is available here for install. No new ROM and no HardSPL necessary, changes can be undone by hard resetting. Other languages might be available as well, please search this forum.
5. What's the risk in changing my ROM?
First of all you have a little risk of bricking (destroying) your device when you do the HardSPL (see below what that is). When flashing ROMs there should be very little risk involved. You can also always go back to the original ROMs. If your ROM language/version (T-Mobile etc.) is not available for download (see this thread), then you might want to dump it first for backup (see this thread).
Apart from that are warranty issues. The place where you bought your Touch2 might or might not be willing to do warranty repairs if you messed with your phone's ROM. Of course, you can always flash back the original ROM (or your backup), and also flash back the original SPL. In this case it would be hard to get no warranty, if you didn't destroy anything else by yourself.
6. Before you can flash a new ROM: HSPL / HardSPL
Normally you can only flash original ("Stock") ROMs that are meant for your device. If you have a standard Touch2, then these are the ROMs directly from HTC. These phones, which have no brand name by some telecom company (like T-Mobile, Orange, ...), are called "unbranded" phones. If you have a branded phone, then you can only flash the ROMs provided by your telecom company. If you try to flash anything else, it will either show an error message, or you even might risk bricking (destroying) your device. Think of the SPL as the piece of software that starts first when you turn on the Touch2. There is a security lock in there, which prevents custom ROMs or other language ROMs to be flashed. There is, however, a modified SPL made by the XDA-developers user jockyw2001. It is called HardSPL or HSPL, and allows you to flash basically whatever you want. (Note: There might be some restrictions still, I am not sure - someone might want to give more info in case certain ROMs like Russian need more than just HSPL)
To change your SPL to HardSPL, please go to the first post of this thread and follow the directions there very carefully. There are lots of small hints what you can do to make it work, even if it doesn't work at first.
7. Checking your SPL version: SPL Tri-Color boot screen
Turn on (or reset) while you keep the "volume down" key pressed. You will see a screen like this:
If you have changed your SPL to HardSPL successfully, this screen will say SPL-1.28.Hard
8. Where to get ROMs
To get stock (HTC standard) ROMs in other languages, visit the Mega - ROM - Hotfix - User Manual - roll-up thread
Or check http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Mega/ or http://htcpedia.com/soft/mega-touch2-rom.html
For user-built custom ROMs, check out the many threads in this part of XDA Developers
Finally, you might want to create ("cook") your own ROMs. You will have to learn a lot... osKitchen supports MEGA, and Chef Central has lots of resources. Good luck!

9. How to flash a ROM
Please go to the first post of this thread, there is a custom ROM flash utility attached at the bottom of the first post. You can also download it with this direct link. If that one doesn't work for you, DrJason pointed out that the utility in this post works OK as well, also under Vista.
You basically need to do these steps:
(Connect the phone to your Windows PC with the USB cable, you need to have Active Sync set up and connected to your phone)
1. Apply HardSPL (Number 6 above) and check that it was successful (Number 7 above)
2. Restart the phone and boot normally
3. Copy the ROM file (nbh file) into the same directory as the ROM update utility
4. Run romupdateutility.exe and follow the instructions on the screen
5. After flashing is complete, do a hard reset (Number 10 below)
Note: Alternatively some people had success flashing from an SD card, where you don't need an PC connection. The card must be FAT32 formatted and less than 4GB total capacity. Rename the ROM (".nbh" file) to "PB74IMG.nbh", copy to your card, switch off phone, hold volume down and press power button, then continue according to the instructions on the display.
10. How to fix many issues: Hard Reset / Recovery
To reset your Touch2 completely you can do a hard reset. This sets everything back to the currently flashed ROM's defaults, so you should do it after every new ROM you flash. Caution! That means all of your settings, programs, SMS, phonebook (unless on your SIM), messages, modifications, etc., will get lost! So do a backup first. (See number 11 below)
Turn on (or reset) while you keep the both volume buttons pressed. A screen will appear asking you to press "volume up" to do the hard reset, or any other key to cancel it.
11. How to backup some stuff
For Appointments, Call Logs, Contacts, SMS & Messages (no MMS!), Speed Dials, Tasks etc. you can use "PIM Backup" which you can find in this thread.
Another way to backup for example contacts is to synchronize with a program on your PC like Outlook.

Hi!
Thank you for this thread.
I have a question. You wrote that you need the HSPL cause a branded Phone blocks custom roms. How about an unbranded phone?

Not just branded phones, you can not install wwe rom to italian device, you can not install WWE rom to asian wwe device, etc.
If there is an error during flash (hard drive fail, blackout), your device wont be a brick, you can step to bootloader and flash again.
So the best way to install hard-spl, and you can do anything
Upgrade or instal a new ROM
Hi yellowfeaver,
I find your review very good and clear.
But I have just one question:
Is there a possibilities to upgrade or install a new ROM in my Mega under the Windows 7 ultimate x 64?
Everything I'll try, evan the hard SPL, it give me an error.
Is an incompatibilities with this OS, is necessary to install a x86 version of Windows 7, or this kind of problem is for all x64 Windows OS?
Thanks in advance and for your advice,
Best regards,
ok guys any one answering it?
imo if active sync or w.e comes pre installed with win7 workd and detects your mega, then everything should go fine. but of course i don't even recommend win7 for his. goto someone with win xp and get it done.
Win 7x64
Hi Gothic,
As I say the x64 of Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1( for Windows 7 x64) does not recognized my Mega for HSPL and ROM's. Is working well for files transfer, internet share etc
Before I've installed the x64 version on my PC, with HTC Artemis I was able to do everything - HSPL, the new ROM's, file transfer etc - but I never used for Mega because at that time it wasn't an HSPL for Mega. Meanwhile I installed the x64 Windows 7 OS and I couldn't use this OS for Artemis and I realized that for Mega also.
Because are two versions of Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 ( x86 and x64 ) and in Windows 7 x64 is already created the x86 directory for this kind of applications I will give a try to the version x86. Why not?
I'll be back with a result.
Thanks anyway for your answer,
Best regards
Win7 x64

HardSPL finally done
Hi,
Thanks for your help.
The solution it was to change one registry in to the WM. Thanks to jockyw2001 for his HSPL and all developers who search for the solutions.
"still doesn't work look up this registry key in the phone:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\EXT_FLASHDRV]
Change the value "Dll" from "OEM_FLASHDRV.dll" to "OEM_FLASHDRVXXX.dll" and reboot the device. After rebooting into WM and after activesync is ready run flash-hardspl.bat . Check in tricolour bootloader screen if it is installed and then boot again into WM and change the registry value back to its old value."
Best Regards,
