Hi,
I got question about o2 XDA .
How big MMC/SD card i may put into it? now i got 64mb card, but it seems to be not enough for me ...
Whats the biggest card i can put in this phone?
The biggest capacity for SD flash memory cards currently on the market is 512 MB. I use a 256-MB SD card on my XDA II.

I saw 1 GB SD Card
Pocket Windows 2002
How big i may install that i dont have problems with my operating system ?
I may format SD card using XDA ?
any problems or specification what card to use or dont use?
I just brought a 512mb card from Expansys for £140. They said there was now a 1gig version available however they never had stock. After a bit of ringing around I discovered that no one else had one in stock either so I settled for the 512mb (which I think is ample considering the size of most applications). 8)
Thanks - Sunny.
I've just got mine 512MB - works well on my XDA I

eventually SD cards have been not that expensive as compared to USA or UK, and also on www.ebay.de you can find a nicely priced card

ps. I said that SD 512MB card work flawlessly as my previous 256MB lexar did not
Does anyone here already own a 1-GB SD card? I can't find a web site that sells it. Is it already available? Where?
I have noticed ... one group member using it

SD Card Erasers

Found this tip to prevent beta versions of WM2003 from erasing SD cards.
Set your Today screen to the Windows Default, voila! Not pretty though. Another tip said to name your SD card while formatting & it won't be erased. Don't understand this one.
TMO ROM4.01.00, RS6.24.01, XDA I
1-GB SD card will soon be available (finally!)
The 1-GB SD card that was announced last year will finally be available for purchase at the end of this month. See this article.

Dear taiko,
currently my Atom Life using WM6.I tried several time to flash medkid v1.6.0.5 using minisd method. but endup stuck at ***MINI-SD DETECTED** in bootloader and nothing happen after that. tried few minisd already, but the result still the same. the minisd has been formatted to FAT16 and even have tried on FAT32. ive put the necessary file on the root storage card accordingly; i.e. AL1.dio, etc.
So im hoping if anyone can guide me to flash the OS using any utility program instead. i guess, the info would be very useful to most of us here.
Thanks
I had the same problem..... only until my friend borrow his mini sd card 128mb (nokia). it works.... i also try with quite a few other mini sd 1gb, 2gb all cannot work....

wah lucky u. u managed to do it. maybe i hav to try lower capacity i.e 128mb or 256mb or 512mb. all this while, i used 1gb.
Hi guys, same problem for me, two weeks ago. I tried to flash with a 512MB miniSD card, and the bootloader freezed like happened to you.
I tried with another new one: problem solved, all woks perfectly........ the oldv miniSD was corrupted.
Yeah. I have a 2GB mini SD. Flashing via bootloader didnt work thru it. So had to buy a seperate 512 MB card. Now flashing works like a charm.
I've already flashed my device several times using all available ROM starting from q108108108 & Medkid's Rom except for the latest version & there is no problem at all using my 2GB MiniSD.
Peronally.. I feel the ROM is great... improve the performance quite a fair bit.... If you are feeling adventures ... u might want to give it a try.. but remember to back up all ur data before doing so....
Notice that you are also from singapore.. if you need any help, just drop me a note...

Ur 2 GB card flashed? Did u format the card completely ?
Please let me know the procedure that you followed..
Thank you
Yaa ,,, that worked for me too using my 2GB miniSD.
1- format using FAT16
2- copy the "ALT.dio" file and nothing else to the miniSD using a card reader
3- flash your device
4- copy whatever you like to the miniSD again
at least, that's how I do it, and it works a treat

Yes it did flash successfully for more than 6X now.
There is no peculiar procedure to follow. The most important thing is formatting the card to FAT16. While using WinXP I'm not sure if the card comes out formatted to FAT16 or FAT32 so I do not use this method. I'm using my Motorola E680I pda phone & a MiniSD/SD adapter to format the mini SD card to FAT16. After this just follow the rest of the procedure.
so.. no solution for this one?
is there any other method to flash atom life rom without using the minisd?
My 2GB miniSD also works fine. Yesterday was the 1st time I flashed the phone. I formatted it to FAT16 also.
I've no problem to flash my device by using my Kingston 1GB mini-SD card.
Have done this based on Medkid ROM since version 6.1.0.1 till now 6.0.1.7, totally 7 times!
Just take note that to format it to fat16, no other files are inside the card.
And most important is dun download the ROM file for other device else it surely will brick your device!
I never expected that I've done so many times, coz Medkid he had done the great efforts on keep updating our device ROM.
i used to borrow a 512 MB original Nokia card for flashing. I just freed 70 MB space in that with all other files intact in the card. It still flashes
hi guys i'm trying to find a solution for sd cards unmount on lg optimus one!!!i have a kingston 8gb cl4 and i had a 4-5 remount a day before trying this:
format with windows, choose file system fat32 and in allocation unit size choose 64 kb(should be the maximum) and give a name!
after this i had no problem for 5 days: no remount no reboot!!!
i would share this because it could be a solution....so anyone have problem may can test it!!!
there is a solid solution. buy a class 4+ micro sd..
but, kudos to you! i have a class 4+ micro sd so i can't test it out, but i'm sure others will.
btw this will kill all ur data in sdcard. backup is needed

So easy if it isn't your money that will be spent
BTW, I have a class 4 SD and it unmounts regulary, so class 4 doesn't really work.
Thanks for the tip dongimin2, I'll try it out.
before i bought kingston class 4 i had the original microsd that was shipped with optimus one and i never had problems!the problems started when i bought kingston memory!....howewer.....another day without a remount or reboot!
If speed is the problem (assuming it is), then I bet reiserfs solves the problem. That is if someone can get it to work with Android Just my opinion though.
EDIT: reiserfs for Android exists. Can someone port it for the O1? xD

Erm, this could really solve the unmount problem, I guess.
@kpbotbot reiserfs is goddamn fast..i have been it for past 5 years and not a single corrupt file ever..(MS needs to learn) having a2sd on reiserfs will be quite good and how abt using FAT and not FAT32 for saving data on SD..havent tried it but shudnt it work ??? Both fs have same 4GB filesize limits

Have you tried using the old FAT on your SD? Afaik, max sizes for FAT is about 260~. I'm going to install either Debian Testing or aptosid tonight and I'm going to try out reiserfs
On the relevant side: I hope someone ports it on our kernel :/
I formatted the card from the phone , but nothing changed...i have root + milk os 1.0 touch lag kernel , before rooting + milk os kernel , i hadn't sd unmounts...i did a nandroid backup . Should i restore it ? , but i'll loose the overlock + no touch lag.. what should i do ?
Just an update: I formatted the SD card as the original poster suggested, and it did reduced the umounts considerably, but not totally.
I stigg get a umount every 5 days or so, which is surely better than twice a day
Looking forward to Gingerbread...

Hello:
I purchased a Komputerbay 64gb SDXC Class 6 card from Amazon, planning to use it in my S2. Unfortunately, it does not seem to work. I wanted to get the Sandisk, but they were sold out...
When plugged in, I get an error about an empty card, and offer to format it - this seems to be stuck, does not finish even after an hour.
The card seems to work fine in my Macbook, and in a Huawei Mediapad running ICS.
Any ideas ? Returning the card is not easy - I got it on a trip to US, and I am now back in Czech republic.....
Thanks for any info, Paul.
in order for it to work in an S2 the card needs to be formatted to Fat32 - it doesn't support exFat (default format of sdxc cards)

When connected in USB debug mode, only the build-in memory shows up on my Mac. The uninitialized USB card does not show up in Disk Utility ( the OS X program for formatting ).
Thanks, Paul.
Take card out of phone, put in computer, format FAT32.
Plug it into your MacBook, open up disk utility, format the disk as FAT32. Backup the stuff on it before you do it though!

Thanks for the suggestion - this was one of the first things I tried...no go.....
The card formatted this way works fine in an Huawei MediaPad ICS tablet....I am beginning to think there is some hardware incompatibility between the card and the S2. There are user reporting success with this card and S2 on Amazon.
Paul.
Are you running a custom Rom in your S2? I had similar problems, for some reason the format tool doesn't seem to work right. I used this tool - EaseUS Partition Manager to first remove the exFAT partition, then create a new Fat32 partition with the total space used (remember to select 'apply' between steps) then I put it in the phone and it all worked. If it still does not work after that I'd sort out an RMA.

I'm running a 64GB card in my SGS2, it does support them but they must be formatted to Fat32 (which windows doesn't support doing so a 3rd party app is needed)
Try Gparted.Google to find download and tutorial
sometimes windows doesn't format correctly
Windows can't format an sd card larger than 32gb with fat32, only ntfs or exfat I think
I should say I also used Easeus Position Manager to actually format the card. I also put the card in a card reader, it wasn't in my GS2 when I first formatted it to Fat32 from exFat.
This isn't necessary, it's just how I did it.

It does support cards larger than 32GB as long as they're formatted correctly.
The screenshot just shows that my GS2 does recognise the card.

This worked for me in less than a minute: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1698672&page=9 (see post 85).
Note: despite the thread being about the SIII, it did the trick for my SII (ROM: CyanogenMod nightly august 26th; kernel: Siyah v4.1.1).
I have had a 64gig card in my phone from Sandisk.
suddenly after 7 months it started to do funny things, not saving pics/movies etc.
Using a galaxy s2 with 4.1.1 and 3.0.15 siyah kernel
Ressurection remix JB
On my computer have the same problem with the card, i can write stuff on it, can read stuff and delete,
When i turn the card out of the computer and then insert it again.
Nothing has changed, nothing extra on the card and the pieces ive deleted are back again and still working.
Got a really expensive 64gig writeable here :S
Can not format it also , even with some tools like posted before, it gives an error.
So boys and girls, it does not always work fine.
And Sandisk says, o no, your phone doesnt support it so no service.
Screw them i say, i never buy sandisk anymore

Well its my music in my car, and i have pics on it, lucky that i saved them a few times.
to be honest 64gig is pretty fast filled with some livesets on it and the 720 or 1080p movies
Wanted to see if anyone else is experiencing the same issue I am.
Was using my phone and my Samsung 64GB class 10 Micro Sdcard "ejected" although it was still in the phone. It had been working fine for a week. I manually ejected and placed it back in but it will not read. I get the "Scanning/Preparing SD card" Message but it always says unavailable. Thinking that my card crapped out on my, I put a brand new Kingston class 10 64 GB sd card but experiencing the same results. Oddly enough, I have an old Class 10 Transcend 8GB card that will read. I am running the stock OS-Unlocked Boot/Rooted/S-off. Only mods I have done are flashing the released HTC kernel that is R/W. (Dont know if I need to reflash the one that came with the phone), and flashed the SD card write fix posted in this thread :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2700310
Anyone know where I can get the stock ATT kernel that may have the correct drivers for ext sd? Any suggestions?

Hey, thanks for the reply.
I have a SD card reader on my laptop and it recognized the card just fine but if I put the card in the phone and plug in the phone to computer via USB, it will NOT recognize/see the card.
Im pretty sure it is a software issue. Does anyone have access or a link to the stock ATT kernel/boot.img?? I'd like to troubleshoot but forgot to make a back up before I flashed the R/W kernel released here. Thanks.
Doesnt matter if the sdcard reader sees it fine in windows, your more than likely going from windows to android, try what I suggested. If the card is not formatted @fat32 it will not be read in phone...

Went to try and reformat them again and am getting some weird results.
If i plug them directly into the computer with an adapter and use SDFormat to format them, then the M8 will read the cards? However, it only reads half the amount of memory (30gb) and I do not have an option within SDFormat to change the size. Since M8 now reads the card, I went to format it within the storage settings and once that completes, it no longer recognizes the card...?? Not sure how that is possible unless the phone is reformatting the card to a format it does not recognize..?
Use sdcard reader on laptop format fat32,set it to default size...it varies on different cards, 4 kb 8kb 16kb etc...

Thanks for the continued assistance. I have done this but still only have Half of the advertised memory. When I first installed it out of the box, it worked and showed full memory (62gb). Also, the default windows formatting tool will render the card unreadable by the M8 so im using the program called SDFormatter. Seems like I'm running in circles so I guess I'll just deal with half the memory for now. At least it works.

Use above instructions to remove all partitions from sd card. Insert into phone it will prompt you about it being damaged and ask if you want to format it. Answer yes.
If you still continue to have issues, it is most likely a hardware issue.

Thank you guys for the help!
I tried using the above fix (disk part) but it didnt even recognize the device. L0ng story short. I was able to use BOOTICE to reformat my KINGSTON Sd card to 60 GB but my samsung only reads 30 (even though it is advertised as 64) I read that when you reformat some Samsung cards, there is a protected area that most generic formatting utilities can overwrite and render the card to half capacity. Not sure if that's the case but oh well. Got it the other card to work. Thanks so much guys! Now if I can figure out why the phone isn't turning on now.....
Hi, I recently reverted from KK rom to stock 2.3.3. There is a strange problem only with files on microSD. I copy files on it but at first reboot the media scanning tells me card problem (broken?). If I don't restart the files are generally played!!! I try different sd and different method of format. Any suggestion???

If you've not done a /data wipe after downgrading, that can be an issue. Else, copy the files of your sd to your PC and then format it on your galaxy player.

That's already done!!! It's a strange problem only on reboot, it report mSD as damaged. But I can format and insert data normally just fine before reboot!

I mean, what's the name of it? I had the same problem with a SanDisk SD Card. However, when I tried it with a Kingston SD Card, it worked with no problems.

The problem is that I sell the player, I always used a Sandisk 32GB with no problem. Now the buyer tell me that there is this problem with a Samsung! Thank you, I'll suggest a sd exchange... maybe a speed class compability....
I have the same problem with my sandisk 32 GB card and found out that it was the problem.
Update SanDisk will replace the card so as long as you have it. I wrote a review on it. Just let it update though.

Is SanDisk going to replace your card as well, or did you just buy a new one?
Thank you again

Nope, I have to buy new one. I have been using my card for 2 years. The card performance have been degraded due to extensive read and write, after reading your sugestion I tested the card using software called "AOMEI partition manager" and the result are degraded performance due to extensive read and write.
For information to other people with same problem; I use "persyst.sys.vold.switchexternal" mod/workarround to swap galaxy player limited storage with my 64 Gb card. This mod make the card work very very hard and degrade card performance.
Hope this information will help other people with same problem.
