Is there a way where I can read Chinese MMS or SMS in an English XDA II unit?
Are there language packs I could install damaging my original ROM?

You can select between Monster Chinese.NET, Pocket Knife 2003, CEStar Suite 2.2 and Effy-Chinese 3.1. None of the above is capable of damaging the original rom.
ARe these freeware?
Those softwares are sharewares. And I have used the Knife and Monster Chinese.net. And I found the Monster Chinese.net is more stable.
If you're installing over a WM2003 device, I recommend to install CEStar Suite 2.2 for 2003 version, the fonts is much larger and readable in the small screen of your PPC, I'm using it on my XDa II, don't have any stability issue.
No matter which of the above Chinese plug-in you choose, careful to install the correct version for your PPC OS, failure to install the correct version will cause your machine dead and will need to hard reset!
Thanks guys!
Really big help
Are there any freeware though?

CEStar Suite is the only one which does not have any time limit, you can use the software unregistered. The different between the registered and trial version is, trial version limit to 50 Chinese characters input per session.

Hi...sorry newbie here asking. Is the CEStar Suite 2.2 suitable for my XDA II if I didnt upgrade to WM2003?
Also, please provide link to the CEStar official site.
I did a search but it went to a collage
Thank you.
Why you need to upgrade to WM2003 for your XDA II?? It is already running the latest WM2003 Phone Edition OS!
There are two version of CE-Star Suite, one for the latest version of the PPC running the WM2003 or WM2003PE OS, and the other one is for earlier version of the PPC, eg PPC2002, PPC2002PE etc.
You may download the two version from the below link.
PPC2002 or earlier : http://www.mobem.com/products/CE-Star.php
WM2003/WM2003PE: http://www.mobem.com/products/cestar2003.php
I believe you're from Singapore like myself right? Actually you can get the retail box of the software from Sim Lim Square at a cheaper price than the on-line download version. Retail box version also come with the full version of the Penpower Chinese Handwriting software which has more feature (full screen continuous writing, color pen etc) than that of the on-line version.
Monster Chinese.NET is good! I can give you the SN.
CHS WM2003 rom for everyone!
I just got my xdaII flashed with a simplified chinese version of wm2003. I found it in a GuangZhou computer mall.
post a reply if you need the flash image, i don't mind sharing it, free!
do you happened to have a Tradition Chinese version for WM2003??

Can you confirm that the download RUU16006WWE_T-mobile_NL.exe is safe to convert German version of ROM to English?
The download is at URL: http://shop.store.yahoo.com/cellpoint/tmobilemdaii.html
Any experience from those who tried that?
Thanks,
vnez
language is 100% controlled by the rom
so if you upgrade your device with a rom in a surden
language the device will be in the language of that rom

To be more exact: the rom is here @ http://xda-developers.com/incoming/rom160wwe/RUU16006WWE_T-mobile_NL.exe
This ROM works without a problem on a German T-Mobile MDA II.
Don't know where you plan to buy it, but there are several German resellers who ship worldwide.
Take a look @ http://www.handit.de/index.php?fuseaction=shop&katid=64
You can mail them in English, but it can take some time before they reply.
Grtz,
Jos
Thank you very much.
I have already purchased the T-Mobile MDAII from Germany (Gigatech.de).
What I am not sure about is whether the change of ROM will cause erasing even MS Pocket PC programs (Excel, Word, ...) or whether they are part of the ROM and will be re-installed automatically.
Do you have this experience. I would really appreciate your reply.
Thanks and regs,
V. Nezval
Good price
You purchased that MDAII at a very good price.
I believe that these are at the rom, and therefore will change language (my experience),
but what is the real problem, if they erase they come back on the rom, if they don't erase they stay on the machine - win win situation

anything which is not put in ram by the user
(which is lost at rom upgrade)
is located in the rom
it's where everything is
that is everything apart from the radiostack

I had no idea but I guess it is as it comes from SourceO2...
It's the same link to download 1.72.181
http://www.sourceo2.com/O2_Developers/Devices/O2_Xda_II/Xda_update.htm
You will find the link to download 1.72.181...
http://64.244.24.19/xda/Xda_II_172181_Final.exe
Do you pick only one of the two, off to read PDF's.
Here are the answers from the PDF's...
181 will disconnect any connection when phone rings, except the Blackberry, Mobile Web and WAP connections. If you need to use a permanent GPRS connection that will remain connected when phone is used, you should use 187 version.
Also, there are additional apps available for download as well (same page).
1. KSE Truefax
2. Fonix Voice Dial
3. ZIP Manager
This is the GERman update, AFAIK...
Could anybody provide the username and password for www.SourceO2.com website for downloading this updates, please? Thank you.
Country Error? I had prviously the XDA-Devel. 1.72 installed
Any ideas how to fix this butg? OUch, just upgraded last week to the xda-develpers 1.72, and now want this new o2 one, ouch!
Should be working normally...

You can register a username for free on the O2 site, and get a password mailed to you. You will then be able to download the files.
Ha, cool! Thanks. I thought is dependent on using O2 device (check on IMEI)...
Hm... I'm registred, but my credentials are not working...
You can follow the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=63862#63862 to get the upgrade working. mine is at 38% updated and I should be done in about an hour or so.
The extra applications file is attached to this post for simplicity...
Cheers

Check my post here. My guess is your previous upgrade set your operator in the device to a non-O2 value.

A release from O2Asia is expected. O2Asia usually follows about a week after O2UK, I think.
My Device is ROM 1.66.06CHT
Radio 1.08.00
I want to know how can I upgrade it to 2003 SE (PHONE) and/or related ROM to newest one.
I check Os (HK support site), which is older than my deivce.
Anybody can get me advice, thanks.

You should really search for the postings here. DCS has done a great job in putting down his painstaking effort in upgrading the ROMs.
I have merely put all the related postings in a common area so that lazy me can get it all in one area....

When I registered with this forum I was presented with a list of possible XDA II models that I could select that is used to indicate to others what model I have. Unfortunately my version is not in the list. Here are the specs:
R 1.17.00
G 1337.28
D 1.72.01ger (This is a german OS)
The OS doesn't say "Windows Mobile 2003" but rather:
Microsoft Pocket PC
Version 4.20.0 (Build 14053)
My XDA II has 128 MB of RAM.
I would like to know whether its possible to upgrage my OS to Windows Mobile 2005. The english version would be fine. I don't want the german version anyway. I've read a lot of posts but it isn't entirely clear whether it's really possible. Does upgrading only work with some version of the XDA II and beyond that version while not working for versions prior to it? Or can this upgrade be made to any version of the XDA II?
Can someone point me to something that would give me a strong sense of assurance that it is possible. Without this assurance I won't chance it. Last thing I need is a dead phone. The major reason I want to upgrade is to eliminate the problem of losing everything if the battery dies or is removed.
Thanks for your help.
yes
www.buzzdev.net
believe there is a german one too
Have you or do you know anyone who has *successfully* installed Windows Mobile 2005 on a version of the XDA II that I have or an older version in a language other than english?
if you go to the window 2005 forum in the himalaya group it's almost mainly users who installed 2005 on their himalaya devices
well that and ppl who did it on their blue angel too
"XDA II that I have or an older version in a language other than english?"
not 100% sure what you are saying here
if you by version mean himalaya or if you are talking about your rom version if the later rom version have nothing to do with it really
if you mean device as in himalaya then roms hare 100% made for a device windows mobile is not like normal windows
so the rom for himalaya is MADE for himalaya
and about language then it's a part of the rom only if you change rom you change language to the language of the rom you change to
Hi Guys,
i've been searching reeeaaally hard but couldnt find any clue if someone cooked a german ROM based on Win Mobile 6.1..
I'd appreciate it very much if someone did or tells me where to get as my brother doesnt speak english and desperately needs improvement on his QTEK 8500 (especially more storage space)
Thanx in advance..
Basti
You are right, there is no 6.1 rom in german. I looked for it too, but nothing...
I'm also interested in a german 6.1 rom for the Strtrk.
Probably we have to wait until the first wm6.1 smartphones with german rom hit the market.
infact you don't have to. There is some sort of SDK provided by MS where you simply can take the language files from. An easier option might be to take all files from that ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=383587 and subsequently replace the English files in our PRO ROM with the GERMAN ones.
In any case its a bit work to get to know how to dump a ROM etc. But if you really need a German ROM i guess you have create one by your own since the majority of Germans around using English versions.
regards.

These files are not working with Windows Mobile 6.1 Smartphone Edition. The Screenshots showing Windows Mobile 6.1 PocketPC Edition. You could use them only if you have Erofich's Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro ROM. But as i use Windows Mobile Pro on my StrTrk and i am looking for german languages too, i will try it.
And do not flash this ROM on your StrTrk because this is a ROM for HTC Wizard. You must open it with htcRE and extract the *.0407.mui files, copy it to you phone and sets some registry keys to enable it. Or you have to rename the files to *.0409.mui and copy it to your phone.
But, i can't guarantee if this works...
