Tools for standard pocket pcs - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 ROM Development

Hey guys,
I'm just amazed at all the work you talented developers have put into developing these tools for the XDA.
unfortunately I only have an ipaq 3600 and was wondering if I could use any of the tools available here to upgrade my ipaq to wm2003 or at the very least something that will allow me to make my own 2002 rom and install my own programs to rom.
thanks.

The set of tools around mkrom is pretty generic, and people have used them on other PocketPC PDAs. You may need to figure out how the memory is mapped on your PDA and tinker with it a little bit though, so this may or may not be something for you.
If it is, Itsme (tool author par excellence) can probably answer all your questions...

sure I'm all up for it 2003 or bust
The ipaq 3600 is also made by HTC so I would assume there would be many common things. I'm pretty new to all of this, but have been reading up and trying to catch up. I tried the XDATools and it seems to have been successful in dumping my current ROM to my harddisk. I also tried the ROMKitchen but one problem seems to be that the minimum size I can make the ROM for wm2003 seems to be ~32 mb. This is a problem since my ipaq only has a 16mb ROM.
I do know that it is possible to run wm2003 on this iPaq as I believe MS had a version of WM2003 running on it, but am not sure whether the 16mb ROM is sufficient

If you are messing with the 3600 make sure you do a cf backup of the rom before proceeding or you may have a problem. I dont think WM2003 has ever run on an ipaq 3600 series because of rom size limitations.

actually it has:
http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/articles.php?action=expand,16788
but perhaps that device had a 32mb ROM...
I'm really looking for the speed boost, which is why I really want WM2003

done ppctech do the rom upgrades on these? im sure they do

Not true VGA mode :-(
No VoIP support in mine :-(
Windows Update seems to be working
Wi Fi seems better (doing the "bedroom" test later... worst place in my house... for Wi Fi coverage that is..)
No "Touch" like front screen :-(
OS Version : CE OS 5.2.1238 Build 17745.0.2.3

So I gather Blackberry Connect is not included on any of these new roms? Is it?
nope does not seem to be included. Should it be in programs list? or?
I don't believe you will see BBconnect cooked on the ROM until an Operator with BBconnect support release a ROM for the Athena. Hopefully someone would hack BBconnect to make work with all WM6.

Hi kaz911:
i am not sure to understand what version you are talking about. I have 5.2.1437 for a long time running (i am not very happy with it, I think is close in performance to WM5 but with more bugs) and looks newest that you mention. Will you put a link?
thanks.

Total Noob here

Comming from a Blackberry and looking for WM6 (I know the "official" version is not out yet) I have an AT&T 8525. I see alot of variations in this forum so I was hoping to get very stable version of WM6.
Sorry I know this is probably easier than I am making it out to be. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Best option: test several and then decide.
Alternate option: pick any basic current release. Most newer one's are quite stable. By and large, they are built from the same core. Stability is not really a major issue anymore for most. Schaps, vp3g, funkey, TNT, shamanix, austinsync, dutty... you really cannot go wrong. I am sure I left some off, but I have tested the ones above. Just make sure you get the most recent releases, which will be obvious from the posting date and from the comments. With an 8525, you may have better luck with a "cingular optimized" rom, like vp3g, but really it is hard to wrong at this point in the development cycle.
Thanks, Do I just place the RAR file in my synch file folder? and synch it up.
If you on AT&T do yourself a favor and dont install any other ROM but vp3g's..

Download the rar extract it on your pc.
Connect to active sysnc and run the exe
Follow the instructions when prompted
If you are like me coming from WM 5 You probably want to upgrade your radio as well. The redio upgrage is the exact same process and pretty much the exact same screens except you are upgrading your phones communication signal. I will come back to this post and give some links
I would recomment vp3G as well. I am running it and it is fantastic, he also gives some great add ons
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334946
The radio i am using is
http://rapidshare.com/files/60589318...1.54.07.00.rar
I am in the LA area and it works well here. After upgrading your radio you will need to wait a little while for full speed, I did anyway. Actually i reloaded rom after rom and it wasn't until i got frustrated and PUT THE PHONE DOWN did i notice it was at normal download speed
There in ies my problem how to execute the RAR?

Is there an app like Haret for Android?

Hello good members of XDA.
I'm curious to know if there is any app for android that works like Haret for Windows Mobile?
I want to be able to boot Rhobuntu on my Rhodium that is currently running a NAND Android Rom, and I don't wanna have to revert back to Windows Mobile to do so.
Thank you!
Amusingly enough, I've been wondering the same thing myself for sometime. That way I could install and test NAND builds, and use my current SD build.
Found this: http://lifehacker.com/5826050/how-to-dual-boot-multiple-roms-on-your-android-phone
but I'm not sure how well it'll work on our phones (got a Rhodium too)

New to HD2 - Bought one with a NAND install of CM 11, want to dual boot 6.5 and 7...

I am wondering if I should just put it back to stock with the RUU or start from where it is. I was told it is a NAND install of 4.1.2 (CM). I want to be able to dual boot Windows Phone 7 and 6.5. What should I do with it? I got this phone purely to play with it. I have several android devices already so having android on it isn't that appealing.
I would stick WM6.5.5 custom rom on it from NRG along with radio flash to be safe.
Loads of still active links in HD2 wiki for WM roms/radios/flash tools etc.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/HTC_HD2#ROMs
Once flashed with WM6.5.5 I would test functions for while & be sure no hardware glitches before further playing.
WM6.5.5 is pretty good platform if you got experience with it & know where find software (plenty about if look), I still use it as a daily as so simple yet capable.
WP7 was a bit poor but a good way test/use platform back in day.
