Problem receiving SMS - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

Dear All,
My XDA will receive bilingual Tradional Chinese and English character SMS. I often find that the garbage characters like "????酘???齠???????抁?????????" were added to the SMS content, no matter the SMS length was within 70 bytes or over 160 bytes. The ? was shown as square on my XDA. I did tried CE_star 2.0, Knife 2002 and monstor chinese 2002 and all this still happen.
Rom Ver: 3.20.06 ENG
Rom Date:07/30/03

Memory: 64MB
Rgds,
Desmond Leung

What's the make/model of your device (XDA, Qtek etc..)?

When i was using xda1 i was told by some people that they were receiving the same kind of garbage, have you got the "use unicode" checked.

Writing in Czech

I would like to write a message in Czech.
If I create a new email and then on the Edit menu choose Language then Central European I still get the Western European keyboard. I would expect to get a Central European keyboard. Even if I choose Cyrillic I get the Western European keyboard.
I can go to Start/Settings/System/Regional Settings and choose Czech and Pocket Outlook will display the month names in Czech but I still don't get a Central European keyboard.
Anyone know a solution?
2 things:
1. On a PC with a basic installation I only get the support for the locale selected. If I then want to write in Russian or Chinese I have to insert the installation disk to get other language support. It seems reasonable that Microsoft will not include every language in the PPC ROM where space is at a premium even though there is support in the applications for more than one language. There must be a CAB file somewhere that provides different keyboard layouts/character maps.
2. In the Czech Republic T-Mobile(your cash away) sell the XDAII as an MDAII and they have a different keyboard for inputting Czech characters. It seems to me that the ROM for the MDA includes the Central European language pack that isn't included in the XDA.
So 2 more questions
1. Is there a place to download a CAB containing the Central European keyboard etc?
2. If not 1 above. Does anyone have access to the individual CABs in the MDA ROM that contains the Central European keyboard? And can they send it to me
i think that language changes needs a new rom
I could get the T-Mobile Czech ROM from somewhere(?) and install it on the ppc but i don't want that. I only want to use a different keyboard.
I know there are products that can do this and I don't mind buying software but I do mind paying $25 for a piece of software that only does what the operating system should do.
Would anyone buy other versions of Windows if they only allowed input in the local language? If you bought a pc in Russia how could you post to this list?
What exactly is the change language option in the ms ppc products supposed to do if it doesn't change the input character set?
People!
What are you talking about?! No ROM change is needed - all you need is czech "input mehod" - keyboard! It is included on the CD the machine was packed with, called czech Language Extender and actually only adds the keyboard - the rest is preinstalled. If you are interested, I can try to find the CD on my shelf... :?
Concerning the ROM reinstall, it won't help - czech ROM is marked ENG! The only difference is the CD.
PS: I never tried to send SMS in Czech, bu it definitely works on the internet.
i must have pressed a wrong button somewhere cos my post didn't turn up.
that is great news. but i don't have anything like that on my CD. could you post it? is it a cab? is it easy to install? a beer or 2 if you can
I found the CD and will try to do something with it. It is a 5.5Mb executable, Czech or English.
We'll see...
looks promising but it wants a serial number.
any chance of posting one? 8)
Very sorry, my network went down yesterday.
I'll have a look at the serial when I come home. I installed it somehow so I must have it!
Here you go:
MORAA000-0000007425-56698-0703 :!:
now it should work!
Thanks Bob but that is a bit more than i needed
I now have a variagated ppc. Half o2 and half T-Mobile. Although i do have a Czech keyboard
Even installing the minimum of the Leng it adds a lot of T-Mobile stuff and I can't seem to get back the o2 stuff.
I don't know why but it also removes all the connections. Even using the o2 Active connection setup causes the thing to hang after a reset.
It is a pity. But thanks again for your help.

What is the best version of windows 2003 se to run on XDA2?

Hi confused by the large number of versions floating around for my Orange SPV M1000 of 2003SE.
Details of what im running shud be in my signiture with any look
Everything seems great with this new windows however when i write text messages sometimes it splits them unnecessarily i.e. a text message is ment to be 160 characters max and creating one over that creates more SMS message.
On this version it occasionly makes the message split at 70 characters!!
I guess what im asking really is am i running the best version of 2003se and has anyone had this problem with messages too?
sorry for the messy message.... its late
thankyou

Strange SMS since WM6 upgrade

I keep on getting SMS with about 3 characters (usually symbols) since upgrading to WM6.
I suspect its my voice mail notifications SMS (I'm on Orange UK).

Thanks Midget and Olipro!
Worked like a charm, what was the reason ?
While your at it you would'nt know which registry hack can set the keyboard layout to French AZERTY?
The one that worked on my Universal doesn't on the Athena...

I tried all the standart keyboard hebrew options I found in the xda forums (about 8 of them). non worked on this phone.
Only thing I ask is to have contacts in hebrew, read and write SMS and web brosing. dont have the need for today screen or system hebrew. Can anyone help?

160 characters

Hello,
I bought Evo 3D today from France. I live in Greece so, when I compose a message it only shows me 72 characters. How can I enable full 160 characters in greek keyboard? The device comes with preinstalled greek keyboard.
Thanks in advance
160 isn't an international standard? That's messed up.
Its probably because of special charters (may be diacrics). I'am from czech republic and have same problem. If I use only charters a-Z message length is 160, but if I use diacritics (i.e. číáščř) message length is reduced to 70 because of different message encoding (explanation from my operator).
Well they need to fix that. I don't know why it would be an issue to have it 160 capable with those types of characters.

That makes sense. I have never thought of that. Time to google!

Well, most phones simply remove diakricics from message and sends it normally. But on my HTC I didnt see this option. Its very frustrating when you imagine that for 160 charter long message you must pay as for 3 sms.
In czech republic is solution easy... dont use diacritics But It may be problem with greek charter set.
Yes and the strange thing is that when i used to have custom rom on my hd2 i could choose greek language in the menu too. It also had 7-bit encoding in messages so I could write in greek withought 70 character limitation.
