ive got a sandisk 256mb card which one day decided to corrupt all my data on it and now i got boxes and symbols for the folders and i cant seem to delete these files from the sd disk from the xda or from windows, it is complaining about the data being write protected or that im unable to perform the request!
any idea on how i format this bugger?
i dont need the data on it i just need to
format it or get rid of the files on it!
any   help appreciated
thanx!
Silly question maybe, but it isn't the little switch on the card, is it?
yes m8 thats the 1st thing i checked!
can a sdreader format the card ?
Weird, I just noticed I have this same problem today.
Although I have an SD card reader on my PC, so as soon as I find the drivers, I should be able to format it. Don't know any other way though
my card did the same thing
i'm not sure if it happent because i took it out while some of the programs on it were running in the background
or if the sdreader killed it
i could not format it using the sdreader or anything
solved it with this tool
it format'd the card in 10sec and it's been ok ever since

Hi everyone,
I have a Siemens SX 56 (North American version) running the latest ATT WM 2003 official rom. I have the latest T-mo Radio Stack on it (6.24).
I bought a new Lexar 256 Mb SD card (32x write speed). I saved a whole bunch of mp3'z and stuff on it. The SD card works fine for some time, but then the phone seems to erase all data on it every once in a while! I searched the forums and someone suggested using "storage tools" program and formatting the card with "backup FAT" method.... I have done that too.... It has erased all data on my SD card twice after that as well..... Someone else suggested that you should exit all applications that open on the SD card (or are using the SD card) before you turn it off. I do that too. Even then I have lost all data.
My question is what can I do to correct this? Is the Lexar card the problem? Should I try Sandisk? Sandisk is actually a bit cheaper too..... I can exchange the card for that. Kindly reply quickly and let me know what I can do to fix this issue. Thank you.
Just had it happen to me on my SX56 using WM2003 Beta and a SanDisk 512mb card. Lost everything. Thought it might be the card but now I'm wondering...
Gonna try and replicate the problem.

some time ago I had similar problems with Lexar faulty card, but that seemed to be somewhere explained in that forum that ultimately it has been not card problem but .... wm2003, hehe
I know it sounds strange ..... if I can manage I point you to the right postings .....
regards, monika
ps. I have solved termorarily my problem by simply locking SD card  and then after changing Lexar for Sandisk problems stopped
Bpd, there is a hisory of spontaneous formatting of memory cards ever since WM2003 came out, it wasnt just confined to XDA either, I saw a few posts in other pocket pc forums with the same problem, some people put it down to installed themes.

Use the little white switch on the side of the card to lock it!
Also its been reported that if you label the card after formating it you wouldn't have this problem. Personally I'd do both!
BTW whats the time frame on the erase after you did the upgrade?
HTH
Problem occured same day as upgrade... and now last night again.
Fortunately I made a backup of everything on the SD to my PC and have now just restored it.
I did not "label" the SD this time... just "locked" it.
See what happens this time.
Gang,
I've recently acquired at AT&T Branded SX56, been moderately happy, but can not complain about the price ($100 . However, twice now I've had the SD card get completely wiped. This is the SD card that came with the phone - it used to have some nice games and the MS software pack. It went bye-bye about two weeks ago. I thought it was a glitch, however, last night the card went blank on me again. All software, data, etc on the card is completely gone.
My question are: has anyone had this problem? Is this a known thing with the phone? Do I have a virus? Am I a blithering idiot that did something stupid (likely)? How do I keep this from happening again?
TIA
it's a known issue with some WM2003 versions ... what's yours ?
Try to keep the SD locked
that's $#%*#
my phone is wm2003, I guess I have to go get an SD card with a lock on it. The one that came with the phone does not. Any way to do a software "r/o" mode?
tia
one more thing
if it's a know problem with certain versions of wm2003 - what version should I get and install to keep this from happening?
tia
Nothing 100% confirmed but TMO 4.01.00 or AT&T 30.09 are said to be more stable
i have a similar proble; the unit didn't recognize the card once it was removed.
Does anyone have the files and can post so i can write on the sd?
Hello,
The same thing happened to me last week on my T-Mo MDA2 (Rom Version: 1.60.00WWE, ROM date: 12/03/03) but in my case I'm using a 128MB MMC with no hardware lock.
Any suggestions aside of using a lock enabled SD Card? (which I think it's dumb since I need to be constantly writing to the card)...
Regards,
Rayan
I used Kingston 512M SD card with ca. 200 M of MP3 files.
After removing of PocketMusic from MDA these files become invisible in Explorer as from desktop as and from mobile, despite new MP3s added to this card, were assigned to Windows Media.
Then I used SoftWinter StorageTools to format SD as FAT32/512Kps. Since formatting SD works well and I haven't any file lost.
May be this problem appears due to adding or removing some programs, associated with such files?
The weird thing is that some people report missing the files in the card but they know the files are still there because the memory space they used to take is still there, and others (my case) the card got totally wiped releasing all the memory space just as if it was just formated.
The only thing I can think of, in my case is that since the card was formated by a Palm Tungsten T2 (I could tell that because a friend lend it to me and he has a Palm and also I could see some Palm directories in the card) and I didn't formated before I used it on my MDA2. Do you think this may have caused the problem?
Thanks!
To solve this annoying problem do either(or both ) of the foillowing
1) Change the today theme to windows default (hard to believe i know but it works)
2) Using Storage Tools format the SD card to fat 32, with Backup Fat option ENABLED (you can change the theme back if you want after this)
I know its odd but i havent had this problem since then
SD Card problem

The same happened to a friend of mine.
I suggest you to try Pocket Mechanic from http://www.antontomov.com, with this software you can format, verify and repair your storage cards. We did this and the card worked successfully after a Low Level Format and then a Logical Format.
Good Luck!
Hi all,
Got a wierd problem here that I hope someone is able to help me with. I delved into the world of flashing ROMs and seem to have done something to my memory card.
I've had an HD2 for over a year and have a 16GB memory card that has functioned perfectly over this time. I flashed the WM7 ROM onto the phone the other day (with no problems) and was able to use my memory card with WM7 with no problems.
I have now flashed Android 2.3 onto the phone and my memory card is now showing a capacity of only 200mb. I am unable to format it above this. I've had a good look around the forums/interweb but cannot seem to find a solution.
Anyone got any ideas?
Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Thanks, I downloaded the SDFormatter tool and when I run it, it still only gives me the option to format it as 200MB. I am unable to adjust the partition size. Is there anything else i need to do?
there is only one thing that you can do
go back to winmo 6.5 open sd formater and let it format the sd card
then you are done, full capacity will show up
i had the same problem for a while and i tried everything but winmo formater
seems to be the only one which can solve the problem
Just thought I would throw my fix out there since I had trouble trying to run the instructions from the S-off thread using busybox.
I just used the Gparted live cd . It showed my card up as the correct size, just didn't have a partition any longer. So I just made a new partition then formatted it to Fat 32 with the full size of my card.
Now, my SD card is back to working condition.
Probably , alot of common sense just wasn't sure how many people thought of using Gparted. Windows wasn't properly reformatting it since the partition was gone.
Thanks for posting this. I figured this would fix it and I am glad to here there is a confirmation. That process really does a number on the SD card.
Not meaning to thread jack

What type of trouble ? I did as well that's why I used Gparted. Gparted is easy to use and free download.
So I should use a throwaway SD card for this obviously and then put in my original after?

definately !
Wish I had used my old 8gb card. I jumped the gun and now my 32gb is screwed. Don't have a cd drive on my ultraportable pc or a flash drive even. So I'm out of luck for the time being. Won't have access to my main pc until Tuesday. This is the messiest s-off I've ever dealt with! Ah well..
How I fixed mine was after I got s-off I reformatted the card. Would not work at all until I got s-off working.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using XDA
i had the same issue, it was showing up as 108kb, put it in your comupter if your running windows, it will say it needs to format it, let it format even tho it only shows 108kb, take it out when its done, put it back in and repeat the format, when you insert it the 3rd time 14.4 gb, worked for me, i had to do that process 4 times before i got s-off, cheers
Even better with this tool and works for everybody just in 2 minutes
