Hi All,
I have some queries. Do I need to change my O2 UK Extended Rom to Asia Extended Rom for me to use the their Sim Card. I got an unlocked XDA2. Example I want to use the Sim Card in Philippines.
Thanks
Any suggestion from XDA2 users in Phils.
As far as your device is unlocked, it should work OK with any SIM.
However, some carriers do have specific policies for their networks, like for sending MMS, GPRS usage and some others. It also might have some predefined carrier settings in your original Ext ROM.
However, as far as I know, basic phone usage is almost sure to work OK.
Good Luck!
Phone coverage will be fine, I have used my XDAII in Singapore, Europe, Africa, and the US over the past 2 months without a problem... as for gprs well that I do not know, but to make phone calls etc, just pop in the new sim and you're good to go.

Since I had less than a day to prepare my 8525 before leaving for Australia, I figured I'd pay www.imei-check.co.uk for their unlocking service so I could use My Precious down under. I read through the unlock instructions on this site, but couldn't verify a single person who'd used them with an 8525 and was not willing/able to be the guinea pig.
After arriving in Oz and popping in a SIM from Telestial, I could not find a network at all. Yes, Network selection was set to Automatic. When I clicked 'Find Network' it just ground away on 'Searching...' for many minutes (sometimes almost an hour) before reporting 'No Network.'
So I tried manually selecting a Network but everything listed is *outside* of Australia. Frustrating.
So then I went to the following stores and tried SIMs from all three:
- Vodafone
- Telstra
- Optus
None of the salespeople's SIMs could find a signal.
So yesterday I sent an Email to imei-check.co.uk complaining that the unlock did not work and I get this Email back (verbatim):
"Hello,
you are not correct. After unlocking you can use ANY sim card. NO ROM flashing is required. What is the error message you get when you try a different SIM card? For us it just sounds like YOU set the phone for FIXED network selection and when you try different SIM card now it can not find your fixed network. So please correct this wrong setting from you in your phone settings:
Start->Settings->Phone->Networks, select Automatic, press "OK" and wait 1 minute."
Does anybody else find that seriously offensive? Are their average customers really that stupid?
FWIW, I even contacted Telestial and then they informed me that their SIM (to connect with the 'JUST' network, if anyone's ever heard of that) was incompatible with my phone. Incompatible with a quad-band GSM HTC phone? Come on...
I knew I was going to be bleeding edge, but I really feel like nobody's interested in helping with this stupid phone...
Hi mate,
Where abouts in Australia are you? If you're in Melbourne, I'm happy to give you a hand to (a) check that it is unlocked and (b) if its not unlocked, unlock it for you using pof's tools.
Cheers

Fixed!
Here's what the knuckle-dragger at imei-check should have known:

See the bit at the bottom about enabling the UMTS band tab.
what exactly is the issue than?
Cingular rom is perfectly compatible to Australian GSM and 3G networks. tested on Optus and Vodafone with great success. ROM tested: Cingular 1.31, 1.34.
Auto mode is just fine.
Hi,
I have been given a sim free HTC Tytn and want to use it with UK Vodafone. I currently have an ex-Orange SPV M2000 which i unlocked and it has been working fine with my Vodafone sim. With my M2000 i can make calls and browse the internet at the same time, but with the new Tytn i cannot do this
Is there a fix, should i upgrade it to the latest version or perhaps try and flash it with the V1605 Vodafone flash??
Advice really appreicated from one of the many knowledgeable people on here please,
Cheers
Here, use the Vodafone UK CAB

Hi, Thanks for your help so far,
I have installed the HTC UK Settings .CAB file from the helpful post below
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_provider_cabs
I can now access internet using my Orange contract sim card (which has GPRS activated) although if i am on the telephone i cannot go to browse without ending the telephone call.
my Vodafone contract sim needs updating so is not available for GPRS, but i presume this will be exactly the same.
Is it IMPOSSIBLE to use Internet browsing whilst making a telephone call??
All help appreciated, Many Thanks
For simultaneous voice and data you must be on a 3G/UMTS network with a SIM card supprting 3G. If you are on a GSM network it is not possible.
Ok, so my problem lies solely with the sim cards?
If both Sim cards were upgraded by the Network to 3g sim cards, The UK settings i have installed would allow my sim free Tytn to work as required?
More Info:
I have just spoken to Orange customer services and i do have a 3G sim card and it is active, is there anything i should be altering in the settings menu or anything other files that need to be flashed or installed onto the phone?
Sorry for the lack of knowledge - hope one of you experts can help!
Thank you
Can anyone help me pleasse????
are you in a 3g area? have you tried the sim in a known working phone? have you looked at the wiki or done a search on the forum?
Hi All
Has anybody managed to get a 3 (Three network) SIM to work on an Orange SPV after SIM unlocking.
I would like to be able to use my other phone's SIM in the Hermes.
All advice appreciated.
Thanx in advance

Hermes - The Mother of All Mobiles
yes, it works fine
(uk)
Can you get full HSDPA speeds though?
My 3 SIM in my TyTn won't let me go above GPRS as its not my primary phone. So I'm paying for a service I can't use. I've spoken to their CS who basically said, no sorry, you've got to use that Nokia we sent you as your phone.
My T-Mobile SIM out of my 3G data card for my laptop works like a charm.
Guess which contract I'll be ripping up next month? Clue: its not the T-Mobile one.
I have put in a 3 PAYG SIM card and it worked, but I didn't test any calls.
What does happen though is the roaming triangle icon appears if you turn off 3G, which I guess is right because it's technically roaming on Orange (although the network name still says '3')
apparently most of the networks are distributing new sim cars for use with their 3g networks, and because of the upgrades, older sim cards wont work with newer services. my 3g service in the us wont work with an older US at&t card, and they had to give me a new one. so give 3 a call and ask them for a new sim card. say yours got broken or something, otherwise they may charge you. but ask first if they will give you one free first. good luck

I think your problem might be that the 3 hsdpa service you are on is x series. I have asked in their shops about it, because it seems to be the best 3g deal, but they said its only compatible with a few phones made specifically for x series, eg n73. And it cant be used on other phoens because it is a sort of program embedden in the phones, rather then a homepage like vodafone live, which you can just link to.
Hope i have helped, and correct me if im worng

Hi all...
I recently picked up a cheap UK Orange SPV M600 (G4 Model) from eBay, and I've been able to follow all the instructions on here to try a few different ROMs already
The problem I have is that everything works perfectly, except for the phone!
It was (obviously) originally on Orange, but I used LokiWiz to get the SIM unlock code, and then entered that successfully with an O2 SIM in the phone... but now it won't work with any SIM apart from a Greek Vodafone one which I had lying around.
I've tried various Orange and O2 SIMS, and none of them work apart from the Greek Vodafone one
All the SIMs I've tried are recognised by the SIM Manager tool, and I can view and edit the sim contacts etc... but all I get for the phone signal is "searching...", and it never locks on to O2 or Orange... only Vodafone.
Any ideas or suggestions please?
[edit]Just realised that I didn't say i HAVE already tried all of the different radio roms available on here, and none make any difference
Another question?
OK - no replies to my first post, so I guess nobody has any suggestions, but I've done a little more reading myself and I now wonder if the M600 has been previously reported as stolen or lost and is now network blocked by it's IMEI??
As far as I can tell, O2 and Orange will refuse to connect an IMEI blocked phone to the network at all, while Vodafone will allow it to connect, but won't allow you to make or receive calls... which does seem to be what's happening with my old Greek vodafone SIM installed.
Can anyone confirm if my understanding of IMEI blocking is correct, and can anyone tell me how I can find out if a specific IMEI is on the UK blocked list please?
As I said, I bought this through eBay recently, so maybe I could still get my money back if it's been stolen and then sold on through eBay, but I guess I'd need to know that's definitely what's happened before I could try that, so ANY help would be much appreciated.
Bad netiquette to reply to my own OP I know, but I thought that would be better than just editing my original... sorry if anyone gets annoyed at that.
Hello guys,
this is the first time i write something here and it's because i really really need some help. Recently i got back to Romania (Europe) from USA and i decided to buy mom a Samsung SGH-i727 from the States to make her surprise. I am very sad because she loves the phone but you cannot actually use the SIM card. I've been in Hungary few days before with the phone i could use there, but in Romania no. You guys think it;s purely because the frequency ? As i studied the frequency problem it seems that it should'n be any because they are compatibile.
Please guys help me with this one!
Could you provide some more information.
You were saying it was working in Hungry but not in Romania.
So you could make and receive calls, and use it internet?
What happens when you put the Romanian SIM in? Does it show any reception or just emergency calls?
Do you have any connection? For example can you only make calls but no internet?
First things I would test are.
What happens with a different SIM pull one out of a friends phone and test it.
Because it could be the SIM card, sometimes older SIM cards dont work in newer phones. Most Telcos will do a SIM swap at no charge.
Or it could be you need to set up the network configuration.
Usually the phone will pull the settings down off the network but if your in a different locale you may have to manually do it.
