Working Solution for 'DEAD', 'DOWNGRADE' TMobile 1.72 to ANY - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 ROM Development

After spending around 12 hours and making a wasteful trip down to Accord, I have managed to figure out to downgrade XDA 2 from 1.72 Tmobile to any ROM. It works for the Radio and CE rom and finally the ms_.nbf.
Here's how to do it for the CE and Radio ROM.
You can get any ROM, 1.60, 1.52, etc etc. Making use of ER2003edit, and now the tricky part.
1) Launch the program
2) Open the ROM NK.NBF
3) Delete the Device ID and Language ID, leave only the Carrier Device as 02 or Tmobile or CDL or Qtek (Depends on the time you flash the 1.72)
4) Save the ROM
5) Do the same for the Radio_.nbf and ms_.nbf
6) Lanuch the upgrade program
I am not liable for any damages caused to your XDA II, I research out of goodwill and I do not entertained any people calling me up and start to bombard me with comments.

1.72 Beta ROM
No working for my device!
I have MDA II with;
1.72 ROM
1.6 Bootloader
I'd get back to 1.66 ROM, but if a try above solution I get CE Error.
I tried with different ROMs (1.66-1.60) but I get always the same errors.
Only if I reupgrade witn 1.72 ROM with above solution I can have a working MDA II.
Any suggestion?
Thanks.

Hi,
Can you give me more details of your problem, like a screen captured of the problem.
What are the changes made?
I will try my best to help, as I have done the downgrading this way more than once with variation of ROM.

1.72 Beta ROM
Thanks notepad!
Long story is mine..
The German MDA II was already with Italian OS and I had to replace it with English or German OS, for to send it to service (the LCD display is white).
So I try to replace the OS after editing the ROM.
On the check version I got no error, but upgrade failed for ID error and went to Bootloader.
After that if I try to change the OS I get always ID errors (5-5-PH-PH-PH).
Also I tried with 1.72 ROM and upgrade went well.
But I still need to put on the device a official upgrade and not a beta ROM, before to send it to service.
Now with 1.60 or 1.66 ROM upgrade I get ID errors (3-3-PH-PH-PH), if I try your solution I get CE ROM error or if I try other solutio the problem doesn't change.
Above solution works only for the 1.72 ROM but if I don't cancel Operator and language with ER2003edit I wouldn't be able to upgrade with the 1.72 ROM too.
Hope to be clearly anoff.
Ciao.

It's weird, I do not encounter such incident before. All along I have issue to flash back 1.72 TMobile and others if I am on TMobile 1.72 beta, the beta rom causes the DeviceID, Language to be trancated and hence not able to recongise any ID ROM.
I will need to research more, till then I am not able to help you in this case, I apologise.

It worked
I've just downgraded from ruu172104wwe to RUU166150WWE (orange dk edition with the above mentioned edits) and it worked. Thank you very much notepad.

I am glad it work for you.

It worked for me. Its the first line that you only have to remove. "PH10".
That is if you have the DEVICE ID error.

Just wanted to say that I used "notepads" solution for downgrading to go from the t-mobile rom 1.72 to the new official i-mate rom and it has worked perfectly. Thanks for the idea...I took the risk and it worked (though this does not mean it will work for others!).

I have successful upgrade from 1.72 Tmob Beta to 1.72 Imate using notepad method, and it works.
This is the deviceData, txt I got from my XDA II using HimaGetDeviceData.exe
U S B 3 2 1 . 7 2 . 0 0 W W E
P H 1 0
C D L
W W E
1 . 7 2 . 1 0 4
1 . 1 4 . 0 0

while flashing the system chrashed.
so i got stuck with my mda,
can someone help me.
the display shows V 1.02

Some interesting things on the T-Mobile 1.60 update software

I tried the T-Mobile 1.60 rom on my O2 xda2.
It works perfectly with my xda2.
However, I found some interest thing on the new rom upgrade process
1. It seems XDA2 (or HTC Himalaya) use one single program for RAIDO / Extended Rom / OS Rom update. It seems Radio upgrade failure may no longer case device failure, because the RADIO upgrade process is same as OS upgrade process, and not required to copy the whole software into the RAM to upgrade.
2. Sinces some of us (and my XDA2) report that the exteneded rom is READ ONLY, but the upgrade program can update the extended rom. That means the Exteneded rom is not REALLY read only, but somewhere locked it. More funny is , it is seems the Main OS rom is not controlling the exteneded rom is locked or not, because after I updated the extended rom, it is still locked.
3. If O2 XDA2 can use T-Mobile MDA2 update, it seems the upgrade software no longer check the header of the device (At lease this version won't). I think we can use it to change device's language. However I don't know how to dump the rom in .nbf format, is that possible to convert the nb1 format to nbf format?
Thanks.
Hi killercheung...
where are you find the 1.60 rom ?
and the radio what version is ?
Can you put it in my ftp pls ?
it's always on
ftp://dgmatic.com
user: xda
pass: xda
port: 21
...like this we can have it all
Thanks in advance
Denis
I asked here for you, hopefully it will be available for everyone soon:

killercheung, thanks for that... I'm still deciding whether to apply the new rom to my UK XDA II.... is the language of the rom netherlands? or can I have it all in english as it is with the normal O2 rom?
Do we lose anything from the o2 rom/extended rom ?
I'm wondering if O2 do bring an upgrade out if we'll be able to still use it if we've tried this t-mobile 1.60 rom.... hmmmmm
hmmm decisions decisions... do you think its much better than the current o2 rom?
Now that I have moved to the 1.60 rom, I must say there's ONE thing I DO miss ....
My O2 BUBBLES ARE GONE FROM MY ASIAN O2.
(I obviously knew this could happen, but thought I'd made a backup of my extended ROM (I DID, but I accidentally tossed it a few days ago) . Who would be so kind as to send me a copy of the O2.cab file from the extended rom, so that I can put the bubbles back into my dialer ...)

Re: Some interesting things on the T-Mboile 1.60 update soft
Hi Killercheung,
You've missed out something ... the EXE file can be unzipped (using Winrar) ... you will then see the same upgrade.exe files, nbf files (3 of them) ... you can then deleted the ms_.nbf so that only the CORE ROM and RADIO is updated, and keep all O2 EXTENDED_ROM content untouch.
You can also use the same method to upgrade to Chinese ...

Good news about the T-Mobile ROM. I don't know what they have fixed/patched, but my O2 XDA II ROM never bothered to disconnect the GPRS connection after having spent some time online, not after surfing, not after checking e-mail. Mind you the T-moblile ROM doesn't either, except ....... when checking e-mail, which in my eyes is quite important.
So now I can go back to have my XDA check my e-mail once per hour, knowing that it will disconnect automatically.
(And Satria, thanks for sending me my bubbles
@ ming:
check ur email. Also I've seen ur review at PPCSG forum. Great.

Hi,
Just one question. Did any of you that make the update testet with the bluetooth GPS?
If yes, It works? or you still have to install TOWA´s patch?

For NBF, you can use XDAtools to capture the Chinese ROM, I did once with the English ROM and the file size is exactly the same as the one in 1.60 update. So there should have no missing bytes in the saved file.
For the EXTENDED_ROM, no idea how to save in NBF format ..
I have installed the update but TomTom doesnt see the serial ports 4/5.
@axbl
Hi, What do you think about the update? It´s mutch better than before?
You say "TomTom doesnt see the serial ports 4/5."
Have you installd Towa solution?

yikes...... did that happen on the old rom as well or did gprs stay connected on the original rom?
I hate the way gprs disconnects on devices.. it's supposed to be always on, and I'd really prefer if it stayed on during suspend etc so that MSN could stay connected, notifying me when I got a message....
Email checking likewise, I'd prefer gprs remained always connected and it'd check email in the background whether off or on, notifying me when it got a new mail.
I can't check the behaviour of my xda II since Im on "roaming" at the moment in another country so no gprs
but can anyone say for sure which way the old vs new rom work in this regard?
I did some research on the upgrade process, and fileformats:

Version 1.72 seriously discussed

Can anyone share with us information on version 1.72 for XDA2: features, benefits, pros, cons... ?
Is worth upgrading from O2 1.60 ?
thanks
There are allready many threads on this.
But to conclude:
If you don't have any issues with your current version: stay with it.
You might consider 1.72 (the Qtek or iMate versions, NOT the T-Mobile beta) especially when:
1. You need certain Bluetooth options (ie serial port protocol) and don't want to mess around with hacks or extra 'tools'
2. Battery life is important
For me these points were enough to DO the upgrade (coming from 1.63 T-Mobile NL). And very happy with it.
Keep in mind that (unless you find a 1.72 from your own operator) you will have quite some work with getting all the customisations right.
One of these days I will post a good working set (no issues in a month holiday!!) of customisations to be used as a an extended rom for T-Mobile NL
i'm currently using the T-Mobile ROM v1.72WWE had no problem with it. the batt life was improved noticeably. I was using the O2 ROM v1.66WWE
as for my bluetooth i'm using the widcomm BT-PPC/PE v1.0.0 build 1400. no problems with it except that it turns off whenever i set my phone to standby mode.
downlaod
i have a qtek 2020 with rom 1.66 and it is doing a lot of problem which version is better and where can i download it
1.72 ROM Editing the Connectivity
Hi, I am v happy with the 1.72 ROM... I have successfully added my local GPRS setting for my operator.
but ... I can't edit my ISP GPRS settings.
In the select network, edit My ISP, the existing connections doesn't show up to allow me to edit the settings. No exisiting connection to "tap" on!?
please help!!
1.72 ROM
i have 'salad rom' with asian flavour(Included 'auto configuration' & 'o2 connect) and happy with it.
rom 1.72WWE, radio 1.17, ext.rom 1.72.900 (main rom by Qteq, radio by T-mobile, ext.rom by edsubsoft).
untill now ;
phone, gprs, activesync, run program, MS BT stack, sms, mms ........are running well. (maybe i am lucky with it)
keep to my salad untill SE come out.
---------------
many thanks to [Krueger] Dr. Stein, mamaich, itsme, edsub...
you are great man.
Most of the post regarding ROM Salads and customizations are beyond what I wish to perform on my device. To dat I have only loaded T-Mobile ROM upgrades that required nothing more than loading them automatically. I currently have the T-Mobile U7K Beta on my MDA II.
Can someone please explain the following:
1. Is there another T-Mobile 1.72 WWE available that I can load, non-beta?
2. I see other Custom ROMs on this site that state T-Mobile. Can I simply load those automatically or will I have to get into country ID, .nbf files, etc?

ajong,
Thanks for the link. I have looked at that page/thread, but I think what I want is still not available.
I'm looking for an official T-Mobile 1.72 ROM, si I can get rid of the 1.72 Beta, or I'm looking for someone's custom ROM that I can load just like I could an official one. In other wors the custom I suppose would be ok, but I do not want to mess around with opeing the ROM and disecting and changing certain settings. Like I say, it just may not be out there.

Radio 1.17.00

"CountryCode" = TMOBILE
All configured for T-Mobile NL

Hi Edsub,
I have just downloaded 1.72.901 of yours and try to upgrade my mda 2 from t-mob.
what i have is te last beta version of t-mob 1.72.wwe boot version is 1.02
when i try to upgrade it with your version i get the following error
ERROR 122: EXTENDED IMAGE FILE CHEKSUM ERROR
Can you tell me what is it I am doing wrong???
Thanks
Hello edsub,
Does the 1.17 Radio version works with the 1.72 Fra, or it needs a french 1.17 Radio ?
Is that possible to upgrade only the radio ?
You can use this radio with your device. No language specifics in it.
(as I was told)
The checksum suprises me.
I can open the ms_.nbf with er2003edit with the normal key.
can you?

Ok, and is it possible to install the 1.17 alone, without upgradeing all the device ?
Did you notice differences between 1.14 and 1.17 ?
You can upgrade every part separately from the others.
Just delete the NBF's you dont want to upgrade
Radio.nbf = Radio ROM
NK.nbf = OS ROM
MS_.nbf = ExtROM
Does this upgrade of the Radio only requires a hard-reset at the end ?
did a radio upgrade only
(removed the OS and Extended rom bkf files).
Device is dead (displays SERIAL after Cold Reboot).
Recommandation: don't do RADIO only, upgrade OS + Radio + Extended Rom whatever you're told.
btw, Extended Rom is corrupted.
I noticed the extROM was not OK.
Just uploaded a new archive wich should do the job ok.
@tde: oops, I just read that on the wiki-page
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/wiki/HimalayaRomFlashing?version=8
no problem edsub, I should have read it too before starting flashing... this is not my first upgrade so I have no real excuse
just back to my old imate 1.72WWE, it's been a while since I didn't flashed my device, this rom is really OK.
@tde, do you mean you have succesfully installed my roms or did you revert to your own?
edsub,
Are you saying that the extended rom you have developed is not ok?
Is this ROM save to load on MDA II, which has only had T-Mobile ROMs on it?
edsub, is this the ROM I requested?
Edsub
I re-flashed with the latest Rom from IMATE I had (1.72WWE), but upgraded the radio to 1.17 by the way.
Now I have to recreate a new extended ROM ...
@ Gratefuled: My ExtRom was ok, only the NBF file to be used to flash was corrupted. This means that in the first upload version of the upgrade archive (see first post inthis thread) you could simply NOT upgrade the extRom (upgrade utility refuses it).
The currently available RUU172901_eDsuBsofT.exe should be ok.
@tde: The ExtRom in the new version should be ok. The OS rom inside my archive is the same as your iMate OS rom (Qtek and iMate 1.72.00WWE OS roms are the same).
@all: Still waiting for comments on the newly uploaded archive

@ Edsub,
Hi,
I have succesfuly flashed my mda 2 with your rom. It worked just fine i wil try this further and post my coments.
thanks,
keep up the good work.
I am a new qtek 2020 user.
Can i use this rom for the provider proximus here in belgium ?
Basically you can. But for the extended rom contents I would advise you to get in contact with others on Proximus for the specific network (ie GPRS) settings.
Also, you might not like the T-Mobile startup splash screen.
And: You HAVE to update the "country id" (=operator/device identifier)
.
What bootimage does it have?. Does it has the T-mobile BETA bootimage?. I don't mind the T-mobile image, just not the beta part
It has the 'normal'(ie not beta) T-Mobile boot-image.
Images were taken from 1.60.36 rom
Is this upgrade the Windows Mobile 2003 SE equivalent?
So when flashed it has the same software features as described for the Qtek 9090?
When flashed to Tmobile, can I still change the settings to telford? Has anyone don that already?
thanks

Qtec 2020 Rom Update (Not O2, Not Orange or whatever)

Hello,
I am looking for the latest Rom update For my Qtec 2020.
I Currently have 1.66 WWE
I need 1.72 WWE
Etended Rom 1.72.800 (i think)
And radio version 1.17 or later.
Can someone help me to upgrade my Hymalaya ?
Where Can I get these Files ?
So it is without Provider !
Thanx in advance.
The provider specific bits are in the ExtRom.
So in fact you can use any 1.72.00 upgrade file and delete the ms_.nbf file before proceding.
Afterwards you can fill your Extended Rom with the applications you want using the Extended Rom Unlock tools.
BTW: This is always a better solution because using a 'wrong' ExtRom could get you into CountryID trouble with the next upgrade.
There are numerous posts with 1.72.00 rom upgrades in it, but I  would recomend my RUU172902WWE upgrade. It is documented what the files in the ExtRom all do, so its simple to skip the operator specific ones.
1.72WWE
Hello,
I have trouble finding the Rom you describe.
Do you have a download link for me ?
Thanx
This is the thread:

O2 XDA IIs Asia ROM

Ok, I have played with a few ROMS including first having loaded the UK version of the O2 ROM update and everthing seemed fine until I tried to use GPRS connection to my AT&T wireless connection which prior to the upgrade worked great. I have now upgraded to the 1.40 ROM update to see if the problem still exists which it does. I used to be able to use *99#G as a dial string and it would connect up without any problem.
Now for my biggest problem, I took the plunge without first dumping my original ROM to a file. Now I can not find one anywhere. Every link seems to suggest I should find it on the myxda.com site but I am not seeing it there, in fact the only file I see there is a Bluetooth patch.
Does ANYONE have the original O2 Asia XDA IIs ROM files? If so please reply to me and let me know where I can find them for download. My original DeviceData show the following:
PH20B 0 B WWE E O2ASI001 1.12.62 6 2 1.12.925 1.02.00 02.00
Thanks!
