identifying received sms

Hi guys, I am very proud of my new xda, however I could not identify who sent me the sms messages since it does not show the senders names unlike other mobile phones, we cant search by phone numbers too I live in the Philippines where sms is part of our lives! Please help me Thanks in advance
Download the cab-file from the following link, copy it onto your XDA and execute (doubble-click) it. That's all
http://www.mywirelessoffice.com/xda/sms_fix.cab
there is a free utility from paragon software to show names on sms, however it works only for the list view && received sms
take a look at penreader.com, it's lying there somewhere
ROKO: is it the same? mine is called sms_names.ppc.arm.cab I think, does it fix sent items etc...?
thank you very muchb
thanks so much guys, now im super happy with my xda, if only they made it a tri band phone so we can also use it in the us, anyways I very happy now, thanks again guys

I don't know. You could compare the two by looking into the cab files using WinZip. I wouldn't worry too much about it, there are more way's of doing the same thing.

That's funny, I was wondering why I was getting more traffic on that site lately...
The copy I have may not be the most current, though it does seem to work fine. It was not an official release. I can't recall the URL for the official release, but I know you can find it in Google.

MMS & XDA I

Is there an app that means I can access O2 Active on my XDA I as I can with the XDA II?
I can get mms messages through PIE but it's a bit of a pain since the site isn't really fitted to my small screen and it's sloooooowwwww.
The EZOs WAP browser isn't colour either and doesn't display anything.
Also a few questions cos I've not been keeping up with the latest things.
-Is O2 Active just a fancy website viewed through a browser?
-How do you get a persons mobile number? Is it only possible in WAP browsers? I've only ever written ASP and HTML so nothing too complicated as an answer please.
Even better, is there a way of getting MMS messages onto an XDA I? Surely someone can write some software to do it?
Please feel free to hurl abuse at me if I'm just being stupid.
the same s/w for MMS on XDA II can be used on XDA I if you have WM2003 ... the s/w name is MMS Composer v1.6 from Archsoft ... there is a post for me with the file to download it (zip file) ... just do a simple search.
note: u have to be aware of your operator setup.
Cheers
Fantastic, thanx for the quick reply.
I've just upgraded to the Special Ed. ROM (2002) though and since it has completely freed up all of my RAM I think I'll keep using it (Well done on that if the developers read this btw.) especially since I have a rubbish old 32Mb version of the XDA I.
no 2002 version software is there?
Also, are there any versions of 2003 knocking about that I can install on my XDA I? Is it possible or will it knacker everything up? - Any plans to put a SE 2003 available soon that'll work with the XDA I? Is it already possible?
You can cook your own WM2003 ROM from the kitchen here (I would recommend 4.01.00). It doesn't have all these fancy s/w as the SER one, but it has all the new features of WM2003 in which MMS can be used.
Take time to read carefuly in this forum before doing any ROM flashing
Cheers Again.
Ta. I've just got to do some serious reading then.

i am a bit stupid, so please help a newbie

can some one tell me how to!!!!
get my xda to work my orange sim card, ie work like it would if it was in an spv m1000?? (i have had it unlocked!!) i have read that i could flash it to the m1000 sofware ETC
can i change the back ground picture from the O2 bubbles to 1 of my own!
where do i put the programs i have on the disc that i got with the fone (i brought it of e bay!!
Hello there gtivinny,
Welcome to this forum.
It is filled with good Hints&Tips Tweaks&Tunings for the XDA
On this site, there are tools to unlock your XDA.
Go to the home page of this site.
Look on the right under Misc and find "Removing SIMLock".
And furtermore Read The Fabulous Manual (RTFM) or this forum.
It is possible to change the background picture.
a) Choose another Today Theme to change your backgroud picture of the Today screen.
b) Read your current ROM to a File. Replace Bootscreen image. Make a new ROM image and install this new ROM.
I always put (install) the programs on the Storage Card.
And I put all the downloads on a CD and all the CD's in a single case.
If something is not clear please ask.
thanks palmtest!
i have managed to changed the background picture, but its not a ture clear picture! (misty) is there a way i can make it clear!
as for the sim lock i have done that!!
i need to know if i can make it work in the same way with my orange sim like in my old p900!
i read a post further down on the section about flashing the spv m1000 onto the xda!
but its not a ture clear picture! (misty) is there a way i can make it clear

i asume you are using a picture you took with the cam
well you can take another picture and keep taking them untill you get one which is clear enough for you
or you could copy the picture to your pc and mess around with a photo editor and clear it up a bit

not really sure what you are saying here if yo mean if you can unlock your p900 then no
if you mean if you can use more then one sim in the xda then yes (but people seem to get hardresets from changing the sim )
Another way is to rescale your favorite picture to 240x320pixels. IrfanView can do this for you.
Copy this picture to your XDA and save it as a jpg in the directory "\My Documents".
On your XDA: tap start, tap settings, tap today.
Select "Use this picture as the background" and browse to a picture you have placed in "My Documents".
you can also have a look at:
http://www.pocketthemes.com
http://www.pocketpcthemes.com

to see the most beautiful Today themesother people have created.
Have fun and good luck.
if i put my orange sim in my xda it works to make fone calls and recive sms,
but it wont recive mms!!
so i was thinking if i change it to the orange software (m1000) i would be able, and easier to set it up to work like my p900,
ie internet, e mail/pop etc!! and so on!
now on to the pictures, my picture i have loaded on the fone and set it to
come on my screen is blured, but if i veiw it in image veiwer its cyrstal clear! like it has a misty film over the top
i told you i was stupid, lol
you can set it up to supporting gprs and mms and such without changing rom all you have to do is to type in all the settings for those
like accesspoint and login and password and such
you can find all those settings and guides to how in the networking it forum on this site
just use search

If you got the contact saved in phonebook, then you can create new SMS to that contact and it will be send.
It's because you send SMS first without prefix, then receive SMS with prefix and the number in thread gets overwritten from nonprefix to prefix.
If you have prefix in sms center number in settings, remove it.
thank you for your reply yeah i thought that myself when the first one sent then the next one didnt i thought i wonder if its adding the prefix back on with the next message thanks for your reply i will remove the prefix in the centre number. i was in 2 minds as to do that but now i have a second opinion i will try it thanks bro for your reply
Jonny,
I had the same problem as you with this ROM (on Virgin) and nothing I did would make SMS's send - either new, or replies.
I have now installed Aeroflyluby's VDG Mango 8107 and with that ROM, sometimes I can send SMS - but it is not consistent AND GPS works on that ROM (it doesn't work for me on Miro's ROM).
HOWEVER, on VDG Mango 8107, I find it impossible to set the SMS Message Centre - when I fill in the number and hit "save" as the phone either hangs or the Message Centre number remains blank. On this ROM, I have also tried using the HTC Connection setup (which works fine on Miro's ROM's) but it complains that it's database is empty.
So, here is a very long shot. Check out HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Phone\CallIDMatch - which should be a dword. I think that you might find in Miro's ROM it is set to 7, but for the UK we need it set to 10 (to match the last 10 digits of a mobile or landline number).
On the VDG Mango 8107 ROM, this key doesn't exist - and I don't have permissions to create it - but if it is already there, you should be OK to change it.
Good luck!
thanks for your reply im not sure about fiddling with the registry. back in wm6.5 i was always making a mess of the registry but, i must admit i made some really good tweaks with editing the registry, but, in wp7 id rather leave it up to the experts on that one as i have never owned a wp7 phone before so im not sure how things will react.
thanks for your input tho , much appreciated

[Q] Whats the best way to import text messages from blackberry 9900 to android?

Hello,
I am trying to move my text messages from my blackberry 9900 that I was using to my new android (G2) that I have transitioned to. Has anyone done this before? I have done some searching on here, and on crackberry but cant find a solid answer. I did find a program "blackberry 2 android" that sounds like it would be perfect but it gave me an error message so I am awaiting a reply from the developer.
Any had any experience with this? I have never moved texts so I dont know how or what the exporting/importing process looks like.
I know there is this app/site out there, but I would rather not buy an app for a one-time thing.
Thanks!
Anyone has any thoughts? Cindy Lou-who?
Take the phones to your carrier and have them transfer it with their CelleBrite.
Oh really? I use T-Mobile prepaid in the us, think they can help? Do they charge ? Do they texts replace my existing texts or add to them?
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda app-developers app
I have no idea if they charge to do that. Most of the time anything you transfer to the new phone will overwrite/replace whatever is already there.
