Missing Files - Startup - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

Can anyone point me to a link to download ppc 2002 startup files? I deleted key library files that affect navigation to the Start Menu and Today/Home. TIA

shortcut missing

hi guys, can anybody help me?
my "running programs"'s shortcut is missing, how can i restore it, or make it back, thanks
default in 2003 there is no shortcut called running programs
running programs is a tab in settings->memory
so maybe you are talking about a 3th party program called that
that add 2 questions
1 shortcut where ? todayscreen, programs, settings some panel?
2 the install path of the program should contain an exe file which starts the program you can make a shortcut to exe files using totalcommander not sure how you do it with fileexplore and then copy it to where you want it

Extracting cabfiles from software I have??

I have been reading lots of posts on the forum and got so far but now I'm stuck.
I have an XDAII and have managed to unlock and unhide the extended rom. now I can access the extended rom while XDAII is in the cradle.
I understand how I can add cab files to it and will be using the configcreator tool to edit the config.txt file.
The problem I have is; all the pockekpc software I have, is on my computer and I have only ever installed it through activesync the normal or official way. When ever I have tried to put the files directly on my phone and click on them I always get the messeage this is not a valid pocket pc application..... or something like that.
So how do I convert the software files I have on my computer to cab files so I can include them in the extended rom? ? :?:
To most of you guys this must seem like a nuby question sorry  , but I can't seem to find the answer on the forum.....
Is there a tool I can use or a program that I can use to make useable cab files?
Also just a though when I install programs via activesync does my computer convert the files to cabfiles and then automatically transfer them to my device? if so can I somehow copy the cabfiles from the temporary location on my computer :?:
A step by step guide would be helpfull but any help would be appreciated :?
Thanks in advance
Daz
Some 'high-end' software will leave a copy of their cab files on a specific directory (i.e. you have a choice of choosing). Those you can just go to the directory and copy it. If you do not know what I'm talking here, nevermind
Anyway, for normal simple software, they will most probably extract themselves to temporary directory. Example
C:\Documents and Settings\'yourWindowsUserName'\Local Settings\Temp\
where 'yourWindowsUserName' is your username for the PC. My guess would be, try to search for *.cab files in your temp directory (i.e. as the above dir) before you install your software. THEN, start your software installation, and do a search again on the 1st setup screen, see if you are lucky And try to do another search after you're done with the setup.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for that I'll have a go.

I managed to edit my extended rom! 8)
I was able to add the cab files from tom tom navigator 3 and it installs them perfectly after a hard reset!
The only issue I have, when I run Tom tom for the first time after a hard reset I have to keep entering the activation code. Not really a major issue more of a pain.
Wonder if anyone knows how to get it to enter the activation code automatically :?: Bat file or something :?:
This sites really helped me with my tinkering I think its about time to donate
Thanks for all the help guys

Hi :
Here after what I do with succes :
When installing the application from ActSync, you must select "Storage Card" instead deffault location to install.
Then, you have to cancel the installation process before the progress bar on your PPC's screen ends.
A dialog box will ask if you're sure to abort the process.
At this stage, you go to storage card throught your PC Explorer, and you'll find the cab file there.
You save it away.
This cab file on the storaqe card will be automatically removed when you confirm that you really want cancel the installation process on the PPC's screen.
Or...
Go to c:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync folder in your desktop and you can find there more cabs. Or simply find all the *.cab files on your HDD and you'll be surprised.
Thanks for this I will check out both methods
Does anyone know what the best freeware tool for modifying the cabfile is? and where I can download it :?:
Thanks for the help

Button Remapping software or reg hacks????

Anybody know how to remap the hardware buttons on the Qtek 8500 with either software or registry hacks??? Want to replace the Voice Tag ESPECIALLY - that just drives me nuts!!
AND, I'd like to replace the music player buttons on the front to answer with speaker phone if possible.
I'd be interested in finding out the information for changing the voice tags buttons also.
4 Files
This is to remap the two hardware buttons on each side of the screen...
These files exist in the \Windows directory. Create a file with these exact names, and have the contents of the file be a shortcut command.
SHORT_POC
LONG_POC
SHORT_CAMERA
LONG_CAMERA
Make sure that you unlock all the security settings in the phone. I don't remember the exact keys, but I know its a registry hack to allow modifying system files. You'll get an error about the file being read only if you don't do this.
FWIW, I replaced three of mine
LONG_CAMERA
42#:MSSYNCAPP?:syncapp = ActiveSync
SHORT_POC
19#\Windows\iexplore.exe = Internet Explorer
LONG_POC
19#:MSINBOX?:mailapp = Inbox
I left the camera button in place.
Perfect! Thanks for the information!
FYI, for those of you having trouble creating these shortcuts, this is how I do it. Create a new text file (using Notepad) with just the one line link you want (e.g. 19#\Windows\iexplore.exe). Save the file as SHORT_POC.LNK (or SHORT_CAMERA.LNK or LONG_POC.LNK or LONG_CAMERA.LNK) and then move it into the \Windows folder of your mobile phone. Once you rename the file to .lnk I don't think you'll be able to edit it anymore. And also, in order to make sure the file ends up as SHORT_POC.LNK and not SHORT_POC.LNK.txt, you must have "Hide extensions of known file types" unchecked in Folder View options (in Windows Explorer).
I know this post was a little unclear, so please don't hesitate to ask questions if you are still unsure how to do it.
OK, some Confusion here. I am using a Qtek 8500 with Qtek rom. Only the Short_camera shortcut is there. I have remapped that successfully. Where are the other shortcuts, or are they only present for a different rom? Are we talking about the same phone here ?
Just tried on my Qtek 8500, and although Short_POC.lnk is not in the Windows directory, if you create the shortcut it works a treat. Now this solved how do we get our bluetooth headsets to launch something else other than crappy Voice Dial? - Sadly changing Short_POC.lnk doesn't change this (was hoping they were related)
Thanks!
I got the Short_POC.lnk remap to work, but it only works when the clamshell is open. Is there any way to remap any of the external buttons so that it works when the phone is closed?
may be a stupid question, but Short_POC.lnk points to the voice recorder button, correct?

Help with MS Voice Command
Creating a "SHORT_POC.LNK" file to work a program within the windows dir is fine but, I'm having a problem scripting for MS Voice Command.
I've tried using it's exe within Program Files and even created a shortcut inside Windows dir. Could someone please end my confusion?
TIA
Bringing this thread back from the dead,
I would like to ask a question:
How exactly should I edit the LNK file in order for the voice dial button
to launch Bluetooth settings?
I mean, I know HOW to edit etc, but what the command should be?
Thank you in advance!

Deleting Files from Windows Folder

Hi,
I have two similar problems that I think stem from something in the OS that prevents a normal user (without a hack) from deleting ANY FILES from the Windows folder (is this because it is in the ROM?).
1. I want to delete the WMA file that produces the stupid tiger roar when the Cingular 8525 is soft reset. Very annoying in the middle of a meeting! I found the WMA file, but I am not allowed to delete it.
2. I stupidly moved some fonts from Windows XP into my Font folder on the 8525 that turned out not to work right, and now I want to delete them and can't.
Is there a hack that allows the user to over-ride whatever safety feature brings up the "Cannot delete____________: There has been a sharing violation. The source or destination may in in use" when you try to delete something from the fonts file?
Thanks so much for any help!!
you can't delete it, but it can be overwritten.
Over-writing files in Windows Folder
Thanks Olipro. I would be happy to over-write the annoying growling sound that happens at every soft reboot. How would I do that?
try the wiki instead...
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Registry
and look for this title...
Disable/change the startup animation or sound
Thanks-resolved!
Thanks Shogun Mark,
I did the hacks and over-wrote the unneeded files and I'm in great shape. Got some additional help on some other hacks too from the forum you recommended. Problems solved.

[Q] Operator pkg and office 2010 cooking

I'm out of idea, any help appreciated!!!
When I'm trying to modify or delete any file inside the operator pkg, the default configuration for gprs internet is gone, modify the dsm file doesn't help.
The office 2010 cooked and installed from market place reacts differently, the cooked one when clicking word 2010 open up a blank docx document, needs to ok out and browse to template folder to choose template, but the installed opens up the template folder directly for you to choose doc or docx document. Is there a way to modify cooked one to reacts same as installed? import registry from installed one doesn't help, replacing installed files to kitchen doesn't help.
