ey,
just curious; is there an app or a function in the xda2 itself that blocks a specific phone number? i know that there are "call barring" services which can be obtained from the service provider; but i think that's for ALL incoming calls right? so going back, is there a function that will block one specific phone number? or even multiple and specified numbers?
cheers

I can't help but think this is a dumb question, but I've searched for the answer here as well as trawled through the phone settings without luck.
When I receive a call, the caller id offers me the name of the person calling, so long as they are inthe contacts list of course
However, received SMS messages remain unresolved and I'm given a semi-useless phone number. We all know what a pain it can be trying to fit a name to a number......
SO guys, what am I missing here ?
Thanks in advance.....
Marcus
From Paragon Software there is a small patch to fix this.
Try Searching for Paragon at this forum or /and google

Thanks Stefan. I found the fix and everything is now fine.
I have gotten several text messages from some spam numbers. a few have come from the same number, and a single one from a different number.
i know i cant block all potential spam texts, but is there a way to block a certain number if several of the texts are coming from that number?
on another note, why the heck would i be getting spam text messages? anyway to find out why or how?
Thanks
You are getting spam from people you give your phone number too... companies that sell that info to advertisers and such. If you text your radio station, they will spam you... if you do the fastest text thing at the baseball game, they could spam you... there are a bunch of reasons you get spam messages.
As for blocking specific numbers from texting you: YOU CAN'T YET...
"Can I block messages from a specific number?
No. At this time you are not able to block messages or calls from a specific mobile number. You can set up a filter if the message is coming from an e-mail address. For more information, go to How do I filter e-mails sent to my phone?"

You can block calls? Well blacklist them, and they can only leave a VM, but your phone wont ring.
Calls isn't the issue I don't think... at least not for me. I have all the phone numbers from telemarketers noted under a 'telemarketer' contact that I just ignore. Is that what you mean by 'blacklist'?? Simply assign a silent ringer to them and ignore them when they call??
I called tmo and they can't block certain numbers, u have to dl an app, search sms block or something, there is a few on the market
ill check out the app. thanks guys. its mostly texts, only a call here and there. i dont text my radio station or anything like that, so not sure how i got on these lists.
like i said, its not really calls so black listing them wont really work. ill look for an app to block sms like 98 classic said
You can also use Mr. Number. When a text or call comes in from an unknown number it'll try and locate it for you. A notification will pop up on the screen prompting you to save, spam, or simply ignore the number. If you spam it, you can see other people's reports about that number as well as report it yourself. This also blocks incoming texts from the number as well.
Works like a charm!

App: Handcent SMS
Not only can you blacklist (block all contact) from specific numbers...but it is arguably 10x better than stock messaging app and is highly customizeable

And it also hogs your phones memory, lags it down and uses twice as much battery as the stock messaging app

Buy something from t-mobile called "Allowances" and block the numbers on there.
It works like a charm

The few (free) call blockers that i've tried to use, yes, they do go to voicemail. There is one I havent tried yet, that is a paid app, that supposedly hangs up the call before it reaches voicemail. Its called "Extreme Call Blocker Droid" and has a 4.5 star rating on the android market. Cost is $6.99 USD. I've not personally bought and tested this app yet, but it sounds like it works very well. You might consider trying that. - hope this helps.
Here is the market link
You should try Google Voice. Besides all of the other features offered, you can block callers from your voicemail, you can have them forwarded to another number, have the caller told they are blocked, or have it act like the number has been disconnected. You can even record personalized greetings for individual numbers.

I definitely second the Google voice recommendation. Whenever I flash a new ROM/do any kind of wipe, it's the first thing I work to get running.
To be honest, I haven't even dabbled with all the more advanced features, and it definitely beats the old fashioned way of pressing all sorts of 1's and 7's and 9's.

I use extreme call blocker and it gives the choice to send to voicemail, auto answer and immediately hang up, or have a pretender answer the phone. Also blocks sms and mms, sends a text back with block message of your choice, and will also save the blocked text message if you want. This is in my opinion the best call blocking app. Well worth the money.
If you are talking about blocked numbers through AT&T's blocking services, then no, blocked calls do not go to voicemail.

thanks for te replys guys.
No, but I think that depends upon the ROM. I ran into the issue when I gave my wife my N1. Even though I blanked it with a fresh CM install it somehow had my cell blocked so I couldn't call her but I could text her. I had AT&T scratching their heads until I found a lead on some N1 forums and tracked down the block list on the N1 to clear my number out.
The error message was given was a network error saying I didn't have permission to call!! It was mildly amusing once all said and done.
...and with whitelist support for those numbers.
I`am using Call Control now. This app can block non-numerical numbers. But no whitelist support.
What for this stuff, you ask?
Answer: information from cellular providers and from banks comes from such numbers. But they trapped in spam and you have always to look blocked log. It is very annoying.
You thoughts about this problem...any suggestions?

GoSMS can block non-numeric senders with each select.
(So I dont want to use gosms, i'm searching a generic solution for firmware's sms client.)
Someone I know is having an issue with someone calling/harassing her and using a Caller ID Faker app so she doesn't know the number its coming from, or setting it to a number of her co-workers or someone important that she should answer. Is there an app, or away to block someone from using something like this to contact her? Is there something that will force her phone to show the correct incoming number? Or a way for her to block calls that are being used from one of these Caller ID Faker apps. I'm thinking that since the the change in the incoming number is happening from the outgoing phone call that there isn't a way. But there are a lot of ppl here that are smarter then me on this topic so I'm hoping for some help.
Thanks
