Why explorer freezes sometime (Solution) - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

due a bug or something wired well noticed in the very nice rom version 4.05 which rarly have noticed instability on, one problem still remains quite owfull which is sometimes explorer freezes & don't show any kind of folders or file & none of the menu items work, a general solution found in this forum is usually to slide out your sd card then reset the device which works just fine, the root of the problem for people who like to know is that when explore a folder in the sd card, explorer remains in this folder since it has remembering last folder visited, then you deside a day later to remove the program you visited through explorer through the remove SW thing in the setting & vualla you have created the problem explorer still tends to stay in the none existing folder, solutions?
1. remove sd card then reset
2. from the registery editor HCU--> Software --> File explorer --> StorageCardPath --> \Storage Card
once u change the key into the above value u got it working, i hope this subject is not redundunt but i searched my best

File Explorer not response

Anyone find this problem, my File Explorer not response when I try to copy or delete some file. Onely End task can stop that error, event i make soft reset still come error again.
Thanks
I have a similar problem...
However, for mine, when I copy and paste a file, the "hourglass" keeps going and going and going. After a while I just press the X and close the application.
When I open it again the file I was moving is moved and everything is where it should be (ie. copy and paste was successful)
I've got the I-mate 1.72 rom

Same problem as yours... The problem doesn't exist if using third party explorer.
I have another problem which made me decided to hard-reset it: Whenever I install an apps or game, I could not find the newly installed program shortcut in \Windows\Start Menu\Programs or \Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Games, I would need to soft-reset my device to make it appear.
I know how to resolve this problem
first goto Start---Program---AutoConfig-- then change network you want or leave default your system will running smooth again.
DON"T WORRY, your data will not lose.
Thanks
Actually, there is an awesome program you can use instead of the MS File Explorer. I just installed this because of these headaches, works good!
https://www.handango.com/PlatformPr...&order=desc&catalog=30&txtSearch=File+Manager
Some reasons
1. No compatible new fonts (may be for dictionary) with File Explorer
2. No compatible new themes (ppc2002) with File Explorer
Solution
Delete new font from windows/fonts
Back to theme windows default then soft reset

Cant create SD directories

Hi, i just installed copilot, onto a 8GB card, that now has 3.2GB data on it - all works fine and fast.
I was trying to install extra voices via copilot device center - fails, so i tried making new directories with Astro - the new directory 'create' button is now greyed out. I can make folder via PC - however this is now an issue!
Any ideas? its like the card has become write protected within the hero, but i cant find a way to change this? All was fine before copilot, and i cant create a new folder anywhere on sd card from within hero.
Upon further testing: ak notpead can make notes, camera can store pics - possibly this is an Asto issue as i installed its update yesterday? may install additional file manager in a bit.
Update: installed another file manager, can create directories. uninstalled and reinstalled Astro - still no go on new, so assuming latest Astro update has damaged Astro.
Mods: feel free to remove this as no copilot issue on SD card, just a flaky Astro update. emailed dev.
I ran into a very similar problem with ASTRO, and thought what you did: something wrong with ASTRO. Would love to see it fixed as it is my fav file manager. Linda makes directories for me fine.

Corrupt files

Hi,
I searched through everywhere but did not find a real good answer.
On my HD2 Phone Memory I have a few files that have strange filenames with strange characters. I want to remove them but then it says it can't cause the file is corrupt. (Don't think they are corrupt, just problems with the filenames) I also tried to remove the whole directory but then it removes all files in the directory but not those strange ones and then it can't remove the directory cause it is not empty. Also tried to rename them, but it also is telling me the files are corrupt.
The only option I found that probebly will work is the Hard Reset, but I don't want to do that since I want to remove them for my backup program wich also can't handle these files.
Now, I tried the original explorer, the Resco explorer and Total commander.
Does anyone has an idee how to remove them?
thanks
Rom: Artemis 18 NLD
Radio: 2.10.50.08_2
Is there nobody with an idea?
are these in your device memory or on the sdcard ....
if they are in Device memory I would say a Hard Reset is your only option to fix it, but if you have corrupt files in device memory , you may have a hardware issue ...
If you have corrupt files on your SD card, copy everything you can to your pc and then format the card ... and then put your stuff back ...
If it does it again, in either place, you may have some hardware problems ...
OR, this could be too, had it on a guys phone the other day, PC infected with a virus that keeps trying to spread to the phone every time it is plugged into the PC ...
watcher64,
Thanks for the answer,
It is in device memory and it is not a hardware issue since it is only from one app. YouTube. Obviosly it is the caching (windows/YouTube)
I use an other YouTube Application now. But the other files I can't remove. I did not want to hard reset since I don't want to reinstall all the stuff. Eventualy I will reinstall with a newer ROM. But I was planing to see how stable this rom is and just try using it for at least 3 months. I can backup everything with excluding that specific directory. But I just will keep trying to remove those files.
So if there is anyone out there that knows how to remove those files.....
Are there tools for this filesystem, (wich filesystem is it?)

Back up & Restore in ICS - where on internal storage ?

Hi,
i run a backup sesseion yesterday with the build-in app "back up & restore" on my ICS 4.04. i had no chance to choose "usb storage" even my mobile was connected with my laptop so i keep it on "internal storage".
but i can't find the backup now on there. There are just a few folders but only some KB's in size.
Where put the app my backup in ?
It's in a folder called .semc-fullbackup
and where is that folder? do I have an access without root?
how to delete backup from app?
can't find it either.... it's not on my internal storage / SD card....
very useful from backup&restore to put the backup onto the phone memory with no option to save it somewhere else <facepalm>
its in internal memory and its hidden so use explorer and then youll see it.

You're supposed to connect a USB flash drive TO your phone, not your phone to a computer. It works, i've tried it.
To view the folders, open them through your computer when connected via a data cable; if you try to view them on your phone via a file explorer they don't show up.
Edit: To get Es file explorer to show hidden files/folders go to: Settings --> File Settings --> Show hidden files
It's great that you can do a backup to a USB flash drive, but you don't get the USB on-the-go cable in the box and most people wouldn't know they exist, or where to get one (I've never seen one on sale in a shop).
(For those that don't know, you can get official Nokia or Samsung ones dirt cheap from Amazon and probably eBay etc).
I use MyBackupPro and found that it was impossible to transfer the folder contents to another folder on my Mac desktop using MTP. Certain files just won't/can't copy. A total joke.
However, I can use a file manager to copy everything in the backup folder to a USB drive via the cable (well, actually via a LiveDock as the phone can't power an awful lot of flash drives) but that's a right PITA.
To be honest, I know Google can now backup app settings but the whole thing is a mess. When you reset, you don't always get the apps reinstalling (even if starts to do it seemingly fine) and I'm not confident it would work if I needed to rely on it. And even less so if I broke my phone and replaced it with another one, where the backed up data wouldn't reinstall either.
Frankly, despite showing off some really cool features in Android 4.1 at Google I/O today, the one thing they've not really taken much care of is making backups. Why not let me make a backup to my Google Drive storage space? Why not back up all applications and data, including apps installed on the SD card (or internal drive) and also backup widget data, home screen icon positions etc?
Even rooted devices are hit and miss when it comes to backups, and most people don't root their devices - or may have rooted the device they have now, but can't always root the device when changing phone or updating the OS.
Anyway, that was a much longer rant than I intended to write. Going back to the start, the backup app for most people is pretty pointless!!
Access Hidden Files Using Phone
Download Astro File Manager from Google Play
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.metago.astro&hl=en
Open Astro ...
Open Preferences ...
Goto Look and Feel ...
Check Show hidden files ...
Then you can see a folder named .semc-fullbackup.
Open the folder ...
Copy its contents to some other location ...
That is all ...
Enjoy

I used ES file explorer to see the folder I said, my phone was rooted, maybe that's the reason the folder was visible by default

Just checked and you're right, ES file explorer can see the folders (my phone is not rooted), you just have to enable the option in settings.
Es file explorer: Settings --> File Settings --> Show hidden files
HI im ravi...thanks for your post....very good app
I'm not rooted, what I did was:
- connect the phone to you computer
- adb shell
- cd sdcard1
- ls -la
Then you should see the .semc-fullbackup folder. So you need to have android SDK installed, I'm not sure if you need to have developer mode enabled, but I did have it enabled.
Just wanted to add to this because this is the first Google hit I got.
