.cab packing
Hi,
Winace will let you pack a file in .cab format.
Data
WinCe Cab Manager will let you edit/build cab files, its not free but you get to use it 15 times before your trial runs out.
You can use CE CAB Manager.
You have trial version.
It's exactly that i need !
WinCE Cab manager is exactly that i want.
extract cab file and regenerate inf files
thanks guys !!
i have 14 utilisations left before expiration...

Just run from PC, then you can find cab file in Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync. Copy this cab file to PPC and you can install it directly in your PPC.
Thanks Sonadt !!

I am continuing the search for the holy grail that is a perfect self-installing and configuring hard reset. I have edited my ext ROM and config to work ok but now i am trying to make my own CAB file using WinCE Cab Manager.
Whilst I have succesfully created CAB files to change registry settings I am unable to create a CAB file that will install files to the pda AND THEN RUN them. The files are copied to the pda but I cannot find a way to automatically run one of them once copied.
Can anyone offer any advice?
Many thanks,
Coj
if the file name and destination are predefined ... why don't you use the normal EXEC command just after the CAB command in the Config.txt
ex:
CAB: \Extended ROM\<File.cab>
EXEC: \<Dir>\<File.ext>
cojones,
this link is very usefull for CAB file building.
http://www.codeproject.com/ce/pocketpc_deploy.asp
the essence of the CAB file is the .INF .
this link show's you how to make one.
they refer to cabwiz, but you can use the .inf in WinCE Cab Manager.
Thanks for your help chaps, I've knocked valuable minutes off my hard resets.
Now just got to sort out a "script" for applying program settings and reg keys...the quest continues!

Can someone teach me how to install rar files in my xda2? thanks
best should be to unpack the rar-files on your PC (with WinRAR), afterwards install the software (formerly in the rar-file)via Activesync.
If you have a cab-file in your former rar-file you might copy this directly on your PPC to install it directly from there (disadvantage on WM2003(SE)): will be installed into main memory, you have no choice to select your SD-Card when using this way)
thanks for the reply...btw, whats a cab file anyway? Im not really into this tech stuff
CAB files are similar to that of a ZIP/RAR file where you compress and store things into a single file. In the case of pocketpc, the CAB files are used as a SETUP.EXE , where is has all the necessary instructions and stuff to install the program. I guess.
thanks guys, You've been of great help. I was able to download winrar to open the rar files for installation.
I wanna save my GPRS and MMS Setting in a Cab file, how to do it?
Find the reg keys you need (I don't know which you need) and create them with the WinCE CAB Manager from OCP Software!
Another way is to put these reg keys into an XML file and install this XML via autorun.exe!
cab
do u have the exe file?
tell me and i will tell u a very easy way to do it to get cab
So why when I load a file like glaxon or the alarm clock on my windows machine its not a cab file its another type of file. When I go to open it, its in internet explorer and its a bunch of text.
When save it on my MAC it is a .cab file...
Am I doing something wrong?
Well, I'm sure you know that you're not supposed to run PPC cab files from the pc.
But normally, cabs are associated with winrar or programs of that sort on an XP/Vista machine.
Anyway, just copy the cab to PPC and see if it installs ok or not.
