Advanced Email Setup - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

Hi
I need some advanced setup tips for my email.
My server requires "username" when logged to incoming server, however on the outgoing "[email protected]" as the username to be able to send email.
I can do this on outlook at my desktop but on ppc wm2003 doesn't allow such advanced setups.
Can I do it on outlook? Or is there a small add-in software or a seperate software that'll do it?
Thanks,
Ceki

POPS

Hi to all,
I have a problem with my customer. Users use outlook express, or similar pop3 client, in order to access theirs mailbox through internet. Firewall permit only pops traffic so, only port 995 is allowed. When you configure a mail profile in Outlook Express 6.0, you can configure secure comunication in "Advanced Options".
Now, I would like to use XDA but pop3 client in Pocket PC 2002 doesn't permit secure comunication over pop3. Is it correct? Do you know a pop3 client that provide this features?
thanks
Lorenzo
Hi Lorenzo,
PPC 2002 has the same problem for both POP3 and IMAP. Here is an article on how to tunnel IMAP over SSL:
http://www-unix.oit.umass.edu/~mgilbert/S_Imap.txt
You can easily use the same setup to tunnel POP3. For example:
stunnel -c -d 110 -r your.mailserver.it:995
Windows Mobile 2003 seems to have SSL option for both POP3 and IMAP accounts.
Good luck,
Mike.
Fantastic. I will try this procedure.
thanks a lot

Leave email on server

My Smartflip deletes mail from the server when I delete it from a POP3 account I have setup. On PPC's I could choose in the account setup but there is no such option on Smartphone.
Is there a mechanism to tell the Smartflip not to delete mail from the server, i.e., "Leave on Server" option?
Thanks for any help.
Anyone? I would also like the answer to this!!
Thanks..
I don't know about the normal MS Mail client.
I use ProfiMail, with that you can define it.
You can find it here.

Multiple Email accounts with Exchange Server, Why Blackberry?

I've used BBC on My HTC TP2 for over a month and then WM Exchane sync with a gmail account also.
Although BBC provides a good option for push email, but it fails to provide
1. HTML mails
2. Links don't work within emails
3. In India with Vodafone in Delhi, HTC devices cannot have more than 3 email accounts.
4. You need to have multiple APN's at least 2, One for BBC, other for routine net surf.
5. With device like HTC TP2, HD2 etc without a D pad, next/ previous mail function annoying, close current email & then click next one to open
However I find WM Pushmail exchange better.
1. HTML mails
2. External links do work
3. PC type email interface
4. With devices w/o Dpad also, swipe across the screen changes to next email.
5. With a bit of work around you can have multiple emails on Exchange sync, with gmail, working as push mail
Create a new gmail account. In WM Activesync (disconnect from pc), in server settings create new exchange a/c with
Server address : m.google.com
u/name: [email protected]
password: your p/w
in Server setting choose only emails to sync.
You are done with creating exchange account to sync.
Now go to Schedule in Active sync
Set peak times as : As items arrive
Set Off-peak times as : As items arrive/ as per your choice
on bottom of this page Adjust peak times option is there, in which you may customize your peak hours.
Now on your PC login in your gmail account
Enter settings of gmail account
For the email accounts with pop/ smtp options available
go to Accounts and Import, here you can add accounts to
Check mail using POP3 option, select the desirable setting
For the email accounts without pop/ smtp options
go settings of that email, set forwarding to your this gmail id
Next step is to differentiate emails form different accounts say 5 accounts.
In gmail creat 5 labels indicating import/ forwarded email accounts name such as dinesh gm, dinesh yahoo etc.
Next in Gmail filter options create filter/ rule for each imported account
as
Matches: to[email protected])
Do this: Skip Inbox, Apply label "XXXX GM", Never send it to SpamCheck
Creat rule for all 5 accounts
In Gmail activate Multiple Inbox
Set pane 0 to Search Query as the label created " XXXX GM"
and same for rest of email accounts with respective labels.
Now Gmail stores all incoming msgs from different account with different labels, treated as folders by WM Exchange servers.
On your WM PPC go to Inbox of email exchange account created.
Click Menu> Tools > Manage Folders
(Sync at least once before this step)
You'll see all created labels for various email accounts on your PC in gmail account as separate folders in Manage Folder option. Check all the folders you want to sync
And VOILA you have multiple emails synced as PUSH mails to your WM device with any special Blackberry Connect service, no PINS etc.
Additionally it works on Normal GPRS/ EDGE connection delivering HTML emails
Any people say Windows Mobile or Phone now-a-days are waste of money. No they are the most customizable piece of design available.
Enjoy
Will you be notified of new messages?
I am forced to use Blackberry with my work because they don't let me have email on the exchange server. Blackberry is crap for many other reasons too....

yes all notifications are same which can be configured in the Start. sounds & notifications option in WM6.5
Interesting. Could u please explain step by step how to make it work on Rhodium? TIA
Nice,
I have this but....
Mails will be duplicated between your Inbox and the 'labeled box'.
Beware, when you are replying a mail, you are always use your gmail adress and not the one from the 'labeled box'

Remote Tracker opens Outlook instead of sending email silently

Newbie here having trouble with Remote Tracker 0.4.2-0 on my TMOUS HD2 and haven't found an answer yet. When I send email commands to RT, such as rt2#egp, my phone just sits there in standby and when I unlock it Outlook is open with the email message ready to send. Anyone have an idea why and what I need to do? When I go to Outlook Contacts>Menu>Options I get an error report, "A problem has occurred with poutlook.exe," then comes up with List view settings, that's it, I don't know if there is supposed to be more and not sure if this has anything to do with the message not being sent. Everything is stock except for a few added apps and I just did a hard reset before reinstalling my apps after some experimentation. I don't use Outlook or even set up an email account on phone and haven't made any tweaks I can think of that would effect Outlook.
I also noticed that the CELLID shows me to be in New Jersey when I'm actually in Texas, this doesn't seem to be of much use at all but I haven't tried changing CELLID settings from default.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I thought commands where you supply an email address (like, rt2#egp#[email protected]#password) would, if so configured, silently without intervention send to the supplied email addy without even having email setup in RT; however, I do have the email account in RT configured; I do not have Outlook, AOL, Yahoo, etc accounts set up in the HD2s mail app (I use Opera to go to my Hotmail account).
In RT's email setup I have only one option under Account, Activesync, is this correct?

no, you need an actual account set up that the phone can use to connect to an outgoing email server with. Just feeding it the email address you want to use is no good, as it has no m,eans to send to that address. Its a bit like giving a man with no telephone your phone number ad asking him to call you.
Choosing the activesync account wouldnt help either, as it would only send when the phone was copnnected and synced to outlook on a pc. (activesync isnt a real account, just an extension of teh outlook account on eth pc)

[Q] ms exchange "sync" works? - email/contacts/calender?

I'm about to take the plunge, and I'm 90% decided on the SGS2 (eligible for ATT upgrade);
Coming from an ATT Tilt 2, with winmo OS, and Active Sync software, which had excellent functionality for syncing and interacting with MS Exchange server (for my work).
I need to be able to edit my outlook calendar(exchange server) and send meeting invitations from the device, I need to access all of my outlook (exchange server) contacts, emails, tasks (ideally One-note if possible) and have everything sync continuously as new emails and exchange server transactions take place.
Has anyone specifically used the ATT version of the SGS2 successfully in this capacity? if so what SW was required? how satisfied are you with the compatibility and functionality?
(I need this for work, and I'm talking wireless syncing to ms exchange WAN server address, (on an unlimited data account))
To give you an idea of the level of compatiblity I'm talking about, here is an example. When you send an email from outlook on your laptop os (xp or win7) you can have a default signature. And the same can be done from my tilt2.
Another example, when I make a new appointment on the calender on the tilt2, not only does it sync to the exchange server (as reflected on my PC with outlook open), but I can utilize the same options for setting up the meeting invitation on the tilt2 with winmo os, (matching the PC with outlook-options). I.E. for an appointment or event I can set privacy status, or out-of-office status for the calendar item, or go in and edit the status later and sync with exchange server.
Thanks in advance for any information, and insight.
I am using it with Exchange Server 2003 and it works fine for contacts, calendar and emails. The only issue that I am having is opening our voice mail messages (.wav attachments) from a Cisco Unity server.
This is my first Android phone so I am clueless about that. You can follow my other thread about this .wav issue here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1290232
I am using my SGS II with our company exchange server. Yes, it does push sync. If fact, I usually get my emails on my phone about 30 seconds faster than my desktop.
Yes, I can access the global address list on the exchange server from my phone.
Yes, I can send meeting requests and the calendar syncs as expected.
A new feature that I didn't have the my captivate (SGS I) is that i can now also sync my exchange Tasks.
And yes, contacts also sync to my phone from the exchange server.
