How to install programmes in extended rom - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 ROM Development

Hi
I have recently bought xda2 but am unsure how to install programmes in extended rom. Everytime I install they seem to take space of ram memory.
I had an xda 1 before which doesnt have the extended rom option. What is the advantage of installing to extended rom?
Regards,
Ghaffar.

ExtendedROM is space reserved for "things" that need to be run after Hard Reset.
You cant install INTO Extended ROM (well not exactly true, but it would be a waist of it)
You can install FROM Extended ROM (into main memory, storage or sd card)
Use the ExtROMTools foundon this forum to get access to the Extended ROM. (but be careful)

Where can I find EXTRomTool
Hi
I have searched hi and low in this forum but yet am unable to find the link to EXTRomTool for imate, xda2.
Can you give me the link and if possible a link to its tutorial as well.
Regards,
Ghaffar.

Get control of flash memory

I am using an O2 XDA I installing XDA-developers. I am so confused of how to manage with the Flash memory. The XDA-developers has many programs that maybe lower the speed, and I just want to delete some. Please help!!!
Thanx
Only s/w in RAM may slow the speed ... any s/w in ROM doesn't count
Thanks, And another question: Sometime I can not delete a file (eg: Arial.ttf) nor uninstall a s/w. Is there any solution?
manythanks
if it's in the rom then you cant
rom mean read only memory
and much of the os is placed there
a xda1 have 64MB ram and 32MB rom the rom cant be used to place stuff in at run time and the device cant use it as work memory

No camera after upgrading O2 XDA II to 2.2007.

Pls help me!
After i upgrade my O2 2 to ROM 2.20.07, i can not use camera.
I didn't upgrade, but I can't use the camera either since Xmas! I get the message" unable to save captured image. 36001:500:10 Unable to get data from camera device"
Please help me either!
which ROM you using?
There's probably no extended rom installed. the translated 2.20.07 from this site is only radio and OS rom. No extended rom. Install camera and other stuff you want in ext rom manually
My ROM is 1.66.00WWE
I also have problems with the flight mode that now can't be selected by tapping on the antenna logo and with the blutooth that doesn't work any more...
Please help!

hey pleun,
there were some boxes character on some of the folders right? or do you already have the full version with English translated? Even on the "connection" some of the menu on the drop down is in box characters. Thought I'd prefer to wait for its full blow out and plunge into it
Yes there still are some boxes here and there but they don't bother me. I deleted most of them anyway
After a soft reset the camera is back, but I still can't send text (SMS) messages....
Any suggestions?
Cheers
no camara after upgrade
how do you install extended rom manually?

Just came from a Wizard, some questions.

Hey guys, I just sold my wizard and bought a 8525. It seems that on my MDA there was this thing called an Extended Rom that I really never found much out about and left it alone and upgraded to Windows Mobile 6 without the Extended Rom. What I am wondering is if my new 8525 will also have this extended rom, and will it do me any good? It will be from ATT but I am using it on a Tmobile network, so I don't need any of that ATT stuff, I also plan on flashing it with a WM6 rom after SIM and CID unlocking through the program available here. Any suggestions or help?
Hi johnny13oi - welcome to the exciting world of Hermes.
I don't know much about Wizard, but extrom on Hermes is just some more storage space. You can unlock it and use it as a place to install (some) programs, store information etc. You unlock it with a number of utilities (I use Schaps Advanced Config v1.1 - which you can download from the forums).
Some of the exceptional ROM cooks on this forum have managed to include the extrom into the overall device storage so it doesn't appear as anything separate and just appears to be part of your main storage.
No doubt some of the more technical folk who frequent this place will give you some more detailed information.
There's a heap of information on everything to do with Hermes in these forums so have a good read through the various topics and posts and find out what amazing things you can do with these little devices.
Good luck!
Oh wow thanks for the whole write up. I think on the Wizard, or Tmobile MDA atleast, the extrom was locked and any sort of flashing that touched that part caused the phone to become bricked?
Johnny,
Welcome to XDA. I would suggest you spend some time reading the wiki and stickies on here to get a general heads-up of what's what on the Hermes.
CR1960 is partially right; the extended rom can be unhidden and unlocked to give you some more storage space; however care is needed here.
On the standard roms (eg WM5) the extended rom is where a lot of system cab files are kept. Also, if I recall correctly, you can't write to the extended rom if the file is not properly signed. if I recall correctly also there is a utility to get round this.
On cooked WM6 roms the extended rom is used for a variety of things. Again, if I recall correctly,Schaps, for example, who is a well known rom cooker on here, keeps his autoconfig utility and other configurable items in here on some of his roms.
Spend some time reading and listening and you will soon get the gist of it all.
Good luck.
WB
If I were to flash roms to the hermes, would I have to do anything with the extended rom at all? Or will it do it all on its own.

It is included in the roms. Schaps, Vp3g, and all the other hardcore rom cookers make it so that you have a very streamlined rom (all the extra crap out of the ext rom) with lots of storage.
I would not recommend messing with the ext rom unless you know what you are doing. Hell, I've only begun to tinker with it and if I do flash it to my phone I would be sweating bullets the whole time! On the other hand I have no problem flashing trusted rom builds or tearing a windows.nb apart!
I think if you flashed any of the cooked roms around here you would not even have to worry about the ext rom. You'll have lots of storage space and all the good stuff you need!

Getting Stock to Custom

Hello Guys,
I am pretty much new to Android here (Used to be a Windows Mobile user), although I am starting to read and learn more about it. I felt so happy to be out of the Microsoft Mobile spell, it was horrible and the software just lives in the world of its own, it lags at almost anything and in short, it just cant work.
Alright, so I got my Hero 2 weeks back and I wanted to know a few things, which I hope you can help me with it.
- I have about 60 over applications on my SD card, and I wish to use the MoDaCo ROM, How am I able to backup the applications from the current stock rom and transfer them to SD Card or somewhere else?
( Will Market still recognise the apps I downloaded after I flashed my phone to MoDaCo? )
- One more question, everything when the MoDaCo rom releases a new version, lets say from 2.9 to 3.0, must I reflash and build everything from scratch again?
Thanks A Lot,
Jeremy

hi,
well to answer your questions,
you can install all your applications directly on your sd card using app2sd.(it is incorporated in the modaco roms but bear in mind you have to correctly format ur sd card in ext3 partition for app2sd application to work . Once you've done that , you can flash anything and you'll not have any problem.
2)concerning paid applications, yes. market will automatically recognise applications you bought once you sign in your google account(they'll be recognised but you'll have to download it manually) but paid ones, nope.
3)when you upgrade from the same built( meaning from 2.8 to 3.0 modaco for example) , you dont have to wipe before flashing cause both roms use as base the official 2.73 rom. thus you wont lose any of your settings. However, when you upgrade from a modaco rom to community rom 1.6 , you should normally wipe.(builts are not the same here, one being cupcake and the other eclair)

Thanks A lot for your response, and I have some questions again.
- Where could I find an app to format my SDCard to Ext3? Will my Windows PC still be able to read EXT3?
- You mentioned that market will recognise my downloaded applications after I root the phone right? So, I dont really get it - I have to download it manually? Meaning? ( All my apps are free, no paid )
- Its pleasing to hear that I don't have to wipe when I upgrade to 3.0.
- Oh and something which I missed out, I am supposed to flash a Radio at the same time right? Which one is the best to date? I heard that there was many versions. ( I'm using a GSM Hero)
Sorry for the inconvinience.
Cheers,
Jeremy

Your storage memory is fine.......
Thats the good news.
The bad news is that you have a problem with the program memory.
Its because of the 3.14 ROM.
Do you have HSPL installed as well as that 3.14 ROM?
Im not sure about the ins and outs of the problem but if you search the forums you will find plenty of threads discussing low amounts of program memory and the 3.14 ROM.
Sorry I cant be of any more help but I dont use that ROM so Ive never really looked into the problem.
Edit; Try this thread for a solution

Thanks a lot for replying .....!!! similar related to this i had posted on the HTC HD2 Anroid Q&A thread, please look into that.

Yes i am having HSPL installed as welll as 3.14 ROM, and one more important thing : please check this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=950165
when i flashed with "Motoman234_MyTouch4G_V3.1_DAF" i can succesfull have the full tour of the ROM, but after that i flashed with WP7 used for one month then again i went directly to MAGLDR and tried to flash "Motoman234_MyTouch4G_V3.1_DAF" & "DL.DesireZ.v3.4.final.nand". From here it am seeing message storage memory almost full.
So is there any uninstall procedure for WP7, i guess directly trying to flash caused these issue. Please suggest
I cant really comment on that, sorry.
I dont use MAGLDR/WP7 so I dont wanna give you any advice in case its wrong...
The answer is out there though, try using google to search instead of the site search function, just add "xda" to the end of your google search, might yield better results.

As from my experience, there is no way to uninstall WP7 but to flash your device with the stock/custom rom. For safety, use micro sd method (which I am sure you know it, right? )

You can go to HTC Website. There, you select country "South East Asia"
Then, go to the download section. If your Serial Number is accepted, it means the rom is suitable for your device.
Goodluck

Stock ROM version 3.14 only has 448MB. No need to worry
The stock 3.14 ROM only allows access to 448MB of the total system RAM. Your storage memory is 200MB because you haven't reformatted your SD card after installing WP7. When you install WP7 thru MAGDLR your SD card is partitioned with 200MB available to Windows, you need to completely format your SD card and then it should read correctly. Please use the search function, these questions have been asked many times.
