is MDAIII hard locked to operators? - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 ROM Development

Hi,
I'm an happy owner of an XDAII and was considering moving to the new MDAIII because I like the new keyboard and Win2003SE.
I was ready to buy one from T-Mobile Germany and hope great dudes here would help unlock it so that I can use my O2 Sim Card into it, but according to this post it seems it is not possible.
indeed..
Also bought one from T-Mob Germany and was unsuccessfull trying to run the english rom on my device.
I got this message from a source I don't know up to which level I can trust, supposedly coming from an HTC engineer. If that's only half true then is anyone interested by buying a brand new german MDAIII ?
Quote:
The HTC BlueAngel device was specifically added some customization upon operators requests to prevent unlocking and Rom change out of their control. Without entering into too much details, the memory mapping of each device is adapted to the operator by an hardcoded memory address translater. This translater uses a private key generated by operators and embedded into a component (a single-die chip KFG1216Q2M that can be flashed only once). Result is that attempting to flash an incorrect ROM or attempting bootloader insertion of a different language ROM result in no operation being accepted by the BlueAngel bootloader.

any ideas?

That's what I've been told.
unfortunately I didn't get this information before buying my device, I may have wait a lil' bit longer if it has been the case...
If you're any successful upgrading your device please let us know

English ROM
Don´t worry be happy!
As there´s a original T-Mobile English ROM for the MDAII so ther will be the English ROM for the MDAIII, is jest a metter of time.
The problem would be for who wants to change ROM from Qtek9090 (mybe Italian) to MDAIII (with German or English).
But also I´m trusting that someone will be therefore intelligent and cleaver to find the solution for this unlocking Rom too.

Upgrade MDAII to XDAII

I bought some days ago the MDAII for 550€ without SIMLook.
For me the MDA Software is very boring and am missing the features of the XDAII Software.
So my question is...
is it possible to (Software-)Upgrade a MDAII to a XDAII with the Tools wich I can find at this page?
Sorry, I'm a newbie...
and many thnx for the responses!
Quick answer 'Yes'
Slightly longer answer, take the Update from the O2 website, use ER2003 Edit to change the country ID to T-Mobile, then flash away.
I had Dutch T-Mobile...then O2... now custom O2 (removed all O2 custom stuff and got rid of MMS as I dont use it etc etc).
While it is technically possible... if you are a newbie and don't have much experience, I can just recommend: DON'T DO IT... these hacking programs can also lead to complete loss of a working device!

Hi,
I'm a Newbie too, but why should he change the country ID to T-Mobile, if he has a Sim UNlocked handy it should work anyway ... or is it not that way ???
Because if he fails with the procedure and ends up with an unworkable device he will have to go to his vendor who might ask some questions and maybe even reject doing anything about it... is it really worth is?
OK that's the reason, it makes sense ...
thank you

I also have the MDA II, with current 1.60.36 ROM. I liked the 1.60 better.
I'm not sure why you would think O2s ROM is so much more exciting I'm not sure. Besides a different today screen I doubt there is that much difference, except for stability. In fact I was very close to upgrading to O2 1.60.50 myself, but decided to wait for T-Mobile to come out with their next upgrade, which I would think should be soon, because it has been awhile since their last poorly put together upgrade.
As long as you are willing to take the risk of a voided warranty, go for it.
The place to get the upgrade, from t_mobile to O2 is right in this forum index. Look for User-MDKIA. This fellow that put this together I believe knows what he is doing and because of the way he has developed the upgrade I do not believe you need to be concerned about the Country ID error.
Good luck.http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=7278&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=25

Because in my case I had to, gave Country ID error when I tried to put the O2 ROM on my T-Mobile unit.
Dont know why people worry about doing it, as long as you follow instructions its dead simple... unless you are editing the ROM (ie removing bits) you cant really go wrong! Even if you do edit the ROM you still cant really go wrong if you read whats on this site!
Even if you **** up completely as long as you can get to the bootloader you can always flash it back to how it was...
its not rocket science...
I wantet to flash the O2 ROM to the MDAII because I have a O2 SIM Card. Some Options like the Homezone Statusviewer or the O2 Active profiles are very useful.
But... If it's so easy as described... It should be no problem to reconvert a MDAII with XDAII ROM back to MDAII ROM (for example if I want to sell it) or not?
thnx for all these useful informations.
;-)
Hey m8!
Check here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=8205
Itsme made a tutorial for upgrading roms.
I don't know your problem... it's really easy as hell.
Just use Er2003edit, it takes care for everything!!!
Here you can edit the header information with a drop down menu.
If you currently have a MDA2 simply change the header info in the three ROM-files from O2 to TMOBILE, then run the upgrade.
You cannot do something wrong, the upgrade tool will not start at all if not everything is right, and even then still the bootloader is available.
I haven't heared so far of a trashed XDA2 device ;-)
By the way... think of making your own Ext-rom ;-)

I really was thinking about making this, but I have too less information actually, may be you can help me find some mor infos about that ... would be very interesting ...
ciao
Investigate the threads refering to Er2003edit, I think they explain pretty good what it is all about.
In the end it is simple drag 'n drop with programs you like to have after hardreset (or don't have). When finished update the config.txt file which handles the install process, note not to use programmes which execute a softreset after install.
Look at this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=7196&highlight=
here is a lot optimized stuff for the ext-rom.

Agree. I think setting the timer on my VCR is more complex!
Even if it all goes completely wrong you should still have access to the bootloader... so you can just flash it again...
settings o2 rom (germany)
Hi,
I'm using a MDA II (T-Mobile) and a O2 card.
I'm interessted in umgrading to a O2 rom but I'm afraid of loosing warranty. I'm not afraid that something should be wrong by flashing the o2-rom to my xda II but I have 2 years warranty left and in that time some other things may happend to my system that I must use the warranty.
So I need the O2 settings of the O2 rom to use MMS, WAP, GPRS,... Which file of the O2 rom have stored these settings?
There are a lot of files in that rom, what are these all for?
I coppied allready the homezone tool which works fine on my XDA II (don't start automatically - coppied to autostart but don't start , only manual start works - somone a sollutions for that?).
Does anyone know for what all the programs in my startfolder are for? There are a lot of entried which will fast system... But I don't want to find it out by trieing....
Does anyone knows a good simulation for the XDA II to test software. I dont' want to put all on my life system and delete again. I thing the regestry will grows bigger and bigger....

Andes==xda2i so what is Alpine?

Hi, been rummaging and found files on the FTP which are listed under Alpine, they appear to be the same files held in the ROM image on my xda2i.
Is this the same device?

Truly, O2 XdaIIi, Qtek 2020i, Orange SPV M2500... came from one Manufacturer HTC-Taiwan, they have the same code name called "Alpine". It means that their hardwares are identical, and they are different just in Brand name.
VietNam -- Thanks for the reply -- since that post I've 'broken' my xdaIIi by trying to put the Diamond extended Rom image into it. Re-installing using the original Rom's from o2, I noticed that the upgrade file started Al, not Him/HTC, so thought this was the case, appreciate the help anyway.
Upgread on IIi
Hello, I notices that you managed an upgrade on the Alpine/IIi. I have not been able to do on because I get a country error code. Do you know of some way to overcome this problem on IIi? Thanks, A.
Hi Apap,
Sorry you're misreading the post (my fault for mentioning upgrade, rather than fix).
I 'broke' my IIi TRYING to insert a modified Diamond ROM into the extended rom area -- it (it being the process, NOT the Diamond Rom which I used on my II, without any problems) caused a locked device. I managed to get back to 'normal' or standard usage by using the Launch Roms from O2's site and the process above.
The mention of the Alpine relates to my original query/post and the fact that the launch rom prefix was Al not HTC/Him.
If you scan some of the other topics relating to the IIi, you'll see that mods are still some way off.

no support for xda2i alpine

well.. greetings to everyone. My first contact with this fabulous source of knowledge was last year. İ ve bought a t mobile mda2 from Germany and the salesman told me that "the device includes english menus" . And i have no idea about their language. So i started to look for a solution in the net. Being a dentist in Turkey does not much help in technical subjects. Even though a man like(motto=they develop i use) me was able to convert the machine to an English ROM even with a newer add-ons. And nowadays i am using a ROM merged by sin 2003 SE and perfectly happy with it.
None of this devices are sold in Turkey so my friends who loved the PDA at the first sight had to look for it across the europe and internet.
Last week a very close friend of mine asked me if he buys xda2i from germany that i would somehow convert it to english . depending on the xda-developers site i said that it wont be a problem.
Thinking that alpine is only a himalaya with 1.3 camera i tried to update the machine with sinmerged 2003SE. And after that i recognised it as a fatal mistake. Now my friends XDAIIi cannat even boot. On its screen you can only see serial v1.01. and when you connect it to the computer you can only see usb 1.01 on a grey unlighted screen. I tried to install the english rom and ofcourse recieved a country id error which i could not solve. İ tried to find the original german ROm and i could not find it even in o2 official site.
So is this machine dead? please help me .
non of the htc devices can share roms
and alpine also have a different cpu, and wifi
they just look alike
Goto http://myxda.com and download the launch rom for the Xda2i. Then it will work.
Mike
sorry but not true
No Mikee4fun it doesnt work like that. Because if i download that version of ROM and try to install it, the country code id error message stops the installation. Because my friend bought if from Germany. And O2 germany site does not hold a copy of the german ROM.
Thats why i need help. Because i tred every other and legal solutions.
İf any body knows how to pass the country id code error message please help me.
You need to use the the xda 2 nbftool located at the following to make the UK rom work with the O2 German XDA IIi unit. http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=xda2nbftool Read it and gooduck.
no rom editing for alpine
again thanx for the effort mikee4fun but these editors are only working with himalaya (MDA2-XDA2) ROMs. No one knows the password for the ALpine(XDA2i) ROMs.
So the kind of editing suggested by you can not be done.. Thats why i am asking for help!
Help

How can I get rid of the T-Mobile splash in my Hurricane?

I upgrade my Dopod566 (Hurricane) with T-mobile SDA software, but I didn't like it, so I reflash the system to Dopod566. The problem is there's T-Mobile splash in the starting, and I didn't like it.
So would anyone tell me how to get rid of the T-mobile splash from my Smartphone? Many thanks!
I have the t-mobile sda2 and i also dislike the screens, but what i did manage was to find 'RJV RegTweaks UI', this is a real simple regtweaker only for a few settings. It did manage to change part of my shutdown screenS, but my startupscreen(s) remain the same. Since you're original is a different phone, maybe you can search the registry (be carefull not to erase anything, stay alert, hype on caffeine or something what works 4u) for t-mobile startup/shutdown screens. It should be easy to find?
But i've added the regtweaker, not a regeditor, i don't have it here at work.
Dopod566 you say?? Do you have any screenshots? And how stable is it? I haven't heard of this rom before... And maybe you've read my other post... I want another rom, more stable rom
Let us know if you succeeded in getting the screens to bugger off, it is valuable information
Dopod566 is the one version of Hurricane sold in Chinese. The stability can be accepted, but can only display Chinese and English can in this version. Actually, I'm finding 2005 version.

So, let me see if i understand you correctly...
This rom you have is standard in chinese and can be set to english? Or is it english and can be set to chinese? If the last is true, i'd like the rom, i think, because my chinese isn't so great
And have you found a wm2005 version? Or are you searching for one?
Because i definately need to update my rom, but can't find any suitable roms for my hurricane. Only the SDA 2 and a .nbf for an 'orange' c550, but i don't know how to flash my phone with a .nbf file yet...

Official X05HT Radio
Someone got the Softbank´s X05HT Official radio ROM?
Thank you very much s2k7.
I flashed my Touch Pro with your Softbank ROM without any problem. According to your first post, you said this is the Softbank X05HT ROM without USIM nag screen, and it should work on the service providers other than Softbank.
However, every time I turn my phone on, I got a white screen keep me from using this phone. The message say my USIM was not installed correctly or the USIM is not from Softbank (in Japanese of course), but I am able to take phone call from other people without any problems.
It is not like any other SIM locks that I seen before. At least the call receiving part is working fine. If I press the end call button, I can see the Touch FLO is working behind the white screen, but it goes back to the white screen right away. If I have a miss call, the centre button is flashing just like normal, I also seen the missing call icon on top of the screen. I wonder if there are any ways to take the white screen out.
I am looking forward to your reply
Thanks a lot
I'm also having the white screen...Is there a special way around it?
Hi,
Actually, I found a solution for white screen problem. Sorry, I should post the founding as soon as I found.
You can remove the white screen with imei-check-unlocker (http://www.imei-check.co.uk/m3100unlock.php). Start it up with you phone connected to USB and ActiveSync enabled... After the program asks for some password file, just close it! (close dos prompt window). Restart you phone and the white screen gone.
By the way, this ROM is working pretty good and steady on my Touch Pro, it is also running slightly faster than my stock ROM. It is a pretty nice choice if you need to type Japanese all the time.
The above method works on my case, but not sure if it works with yours. Please don't blame me if it doesn't
Important note: after using this rom, my phone only work with 3G only. I have a SIM card with 2G plan only and it is not working with this ROM.
Thank you for your fast reply to my question!
Probably 2G doesn't work because the Japanese phonesystem is 3G and above only ;P
I have one more question for this Japanese ROM...
Is the interface Bilangual like most "international" phones in Japan? I need to type Japanese sometimes, but I would prefer an English layout...
Thx in advance!
This rom has Japanese interface only. After you flashed this rom, your Touch Pro will be exactly the same as X05HT.
If you just need to type Japanese with English ROM, you may want to read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=482611&highlight=japanese
I tried this method on my Touch Pro with regular WWE English ROM, it works pretty good for me. However, it may not work with other language ROMs, it failed on Chinese ROM.
Have fun
Link Down?
Hi,
Fantastic job, but the file seems to be down. Can you post this file again please? This is exactly what I'm looking for. (I'll switch to an English ROM when I leave Japan but for now, Japanese is better with all the Softbank non-standard stuff in there)
I bought an unlock from Olipro (htc-unlocks.com) for my Softbank X05HT, and it appears to work apart from Softbank's second level of Sim locking.
Thanks!!!!
Thanks for reposting the file so quickly. Buy you a beer if you're in Tokyo!
Thanx! m(_ _)m
