himlaya and tomtom - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 ROM Development

I have some trouble with my xda which i bought it on ebay.
It was bought with tomtom 3 preinstalled. After rom upgrade and tomtom upgrades, tomtom could not detect the maps. if i used the backup to restore everything system becomes unstable (hard resets itself).
I a stuck at this stage can someone help
sam

sounds like an illegal version of tomtom. Do you have the original disks of the maps?

For sure illegal maps.
I read about this elsewhere: The issue occurs when someone has illegal maps & updates to TomTom 3.03. . . .tough luck!

the tom tom came preinstalled. will it be possible for me to revert back to the previous ROM version. Tom Tom was working when I bought it, but after upgrading the ROM I could not use the backup image. (ERROR MESSAGE:Not eenough space in storage. do you want to go to storage now but there is no folder named storage in previous ROM version.

maybe you can use MobileVault to extract only tt3 from the backup file.

"Unable to initialize Camera" error after upgrading to WM6

Hi guys,
I decided to upgrade my phone the other night, for no other reason then I like to fiddle and see what I can do with things =). WM5 worked fine, but I wanted to check out what WM6 had to offer.
So I download the official upgrade from the HTC member area ( http://www.dopodasia.com/Dopod_Aus ) and install as directed.
Everything went great, and I am pretty happy with WM6.
But after the upgrade, trying to start the camera brings up a dialog box with the error message "Unable to start camera. Unable to initialize Camera". This occurs if I hit the shortcut or run the .exe from explorer.
I downloaded the camera software but trying to overwrite the installed files using activesync yeilds an "unable to overwrite because files are write-protected" error, and attempting to write-enable the files is disallowed (the file just reverts back to write-protected, frustratingly).
I've searched these forums and others, and I can't find any answers.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
I had the same problem when I pass from WM5 to WM6 because I try to restore a backup from my old ROM over my new ROM, thing that is impossible that works well due to registry and file incompatibilities.
I don't know if it's your case or not...

I have the same problem - no answer yet My original report:

The key thing is that reflashing to a known-good ROM doesn't fix it. What about in your case?

Hrmm.. I haven't tried yet, still looking for some sort of workaround or a software solution.
I'll try another OS tomorrow and let you know how it goes.
I also have this error, but...
...occasionally, it works when I do the following:
- Cold boot the device (no soft reset)
- Start the camera, but the screen will display noise
- Close the camera
- Start it again
- Second time, it will operate as expected
But funny enough, this trick doesn't work all the time...
I have friends and collegues that also upgraded and they don't experience this problem at all...
Same thing here... I bought 4 att 8525 units at ebay. they already came with wm6 3.57 from cingular.
3 units are working with no problems, but the camera stopped working in one of the phones.
I've tried everything (I think) , soft reset, hard reset, rom upgrade/downgrade.
A little of history ... so maybe some guru out there figures out what the f.. is going on:
1) The camera used to work fine.
2) Suddenly it began to fail saving pictures to the SC (sandisk 2gb) . All the phones have the same card.
If you choose to save to main memory, it worked.
3) The same day, the message "unable to initialize camera" started to show everytime I tried to start the camera application (4.0).
4) I tought it may be a failure SC, so I removed the SC, reset the phone but nothing changed.
5) Incredibly.... after then phone been turned off for a while... when I turned it on, the camera worked. Took a few pics... and the same error again!
6) Soft reset, hard reset.... nothing...
7) Updated SPL, radio and Rom (schaps 3.57) and the camera did work again!!!!! (with the SC in) .... after a few hours (no applications or skin applied) the error came back.
8) repeated those steps..... but no luck this time....
9) removed sim, sc and repeat steps.... no luck...
10 ) now, it is not working.... I tried coolcamera... but it does not start... tried camera 4.11... nothing... I went through the registry comparing with the other phones... everything is correct.
11) now I am thinking it is hw problem... but how is it possible that it works from time to time??????
Well... I almost gave up looking for a solution.... any idea would be great!
(what is a cold reset? )
thanks
fabian
Good news!!...
I just downloaded this cab that says it corrects SC bad management.
After installing the cab... turning off/on the phone... the camera works!!
(I don't know for how long it will work... but at least it is alive! )
Good luck and please share your experience with this cab !!
fabian
I can't believe it.... it worked for 2 hours... I did nothing with the phone... when I got the phone to send a sms, I tried again the camera... and it did not work!!!!!
(((
this is really weird!!
Well... this seems more like a "blog" than a forum .
Yesterday night I try removing the battery for 15 minutes. Then I turned on the phone and the camera started working.
I was really pesimist about the time it will keep working well... so I took pictures , recorded video, store them into main memory, into SC .. I really messed up with the camera ... everything worked well... tryed also Coolcamera application and took picture at maximum resolution (1600x1200 I think) .. everything Ok.
The camera is still working today... I did soft reset and it is still working... I'm trying step by step every action... synchronize.. wi-fi... phone... sms.. mms.. etc etc...and the camera still working...
I wonder how long will this work.. and what the hell does taking away the battery ???? Does it clean something in the ram ?
Any answer???
fabain
damn
I was really hopeful of this cab...
installed it and nada...
trying the battery trick (again) with this new cab installed to see maybe well just maybe...
fingers crossed

Hey ya all,
Did a ROM upgrade
Schaps Pro New Very excellent to state the least!
Did a re-store (double dump move!)
Used SK Tools to re-store old backup of entire system (that was the double dumb move not the using the the fantastic SK Tools app!
Camera worked as well as a 2pixel can, but now get "Unable to start Camera not enough storage is available blah blah
So I did a search found a cab to a Kaiser link to rabidshare and tried to download 6 in a couple of days NO go on that,
http://rapidshare.com/files/97924716/Nadavi_HTC_Camera_5_0_4_2915_00_NEW_HTC_FIX.cab
Rabidshare doesn't finish download most every time I try on PC or phone!
Can anyone provide another link to download form please please!
So I tried another cab on this forum ArtemisSDeng and no go with soft rest.
Took battery and micro card out, 15 minutes (what-ever) no go on that either. . .
Have
Storage FREE 32.96 MB
Programs free 27.81 MB
So NOW what can I do besides buy a new Tynt and not restore old system restore over a NEW ROM?
Much help please?
where are updated cameras anyway?
I am currently running version 3.0 build 25498 HTC Camera on my Wizard with WM6 (NBD v9.2) ROM. Where can I find updated camera files. I tried a ROM once that had version 3.3 on it and it seemed to work better but I haven't found any standalone copies of the camera programs.
Anyone?
Can I use this cab for my HTC TYTN II (Kaiser) or its ony for Artemis ?
Hope this helps,
The reason that my camera messed up after installing a new ROM, is that I re-stored my device with a whole system restore!
This covered over the new upgraded settings found in the NEW ROM with old settings/ configuration !
SO I reinstalled the OLD ATT ROM (yuk) and BINGO camera works as it did before the undated ROM!
Now I going to reinstall the NEW cooked ROM, without the restore system and just hand install all my 6 apps, so I don't mess up the updated camera settings!
Maybe next week hopefully!
Hope that helps someone, so they can run a cooked ROM without messing up their camera!
Later!
madefree, you can restore all the old setup of your phone with SPB Backup ver2. It has an upgrade rom mode that doesn't alter the os at all but puts things back as they were on your old os. Today screen how you like it, any apps you've installed(fully regged). The only thing I've found was that for some roms I had to re-install the .net framework 3.5 as it DOESN'T alter the OS files. Well worth the money..
Cheers...
Thanks much ultramag69 for that info on the v2, as I was doing a flash on LVSW Edition ROM in about 20 minutes, so maybe dnload SPB Backup v2 and give it a try!
I just wish Sktools did that same type install, since I already bought that app!
Again thanks!
fix camera not initailize error (maybe)
ok not sure this will help every body but it work for me --- i'm running schaps 4.31 same problem after upgrading my 8525 any ways after weeks of try with cab , software , downloads I went to the programs them self and found out that if I disabled the camera icon setting in schaps config then soft reboot it works every time ( the icon actually is still there on today screen) been 2 days no errors before fix -- soft reboot use cam once errors till I reboted again hope it helps repost your findings might just be a freak incident

Upgrading my phone for the 1st time.

I have Verizon Wireless service. I want to upgrade my phone for the first time. I've been reading alot and the Wiki but it doesn't go into great detal about how to do it. I want to make sure I have got everything down correctly first.
- First, get my phones ESN, MSID, Security, EPST, and M. IP settings by using ##778, etc.
- Second, I unlock the phone and install BootLoader 2.40 per Wiki instructions.
- Third, I install Titan_Radio_ROM_3.42.30 by coping TITAIMG.nbh to my SD mini card and running bootloader by pressing the 3 keys.
- Fourth, I install dcd_titan_kitchen_3.2.2 by running it and compiling it and coping the created RUU_signed.nbh after renaming it to TITAIMG.nbh and copying it to the SD card and running bootloader by using the 3 keys.
I pretty much checked everything before I compiled it, except items that did the same thing or that was double like the different versions of the camera. Is that OK, or will it eat up all my memory, or will I have other problems? I didn't know what alot of the stuff was, so I thought it would just be best to install everything. Also, the wiki talks about choosing the right carrier and not more then one carrier, but that option wasn't there. I assume that's what the VZ cab is now here for?
- Fifth, copy dcd Verizon Carrier 20080706.cab to the SD card and run that.
Then I do a soft reset and everything should be working? Is that right? Did I miss anything?
I also don't understand the A-key problem and how to avoid it.
I'm also confused about not booting after you upgrade the ROM and after the screen calibration the carrier customisations will run and alter my EPST settings to the operators settings and my phone will be configured to the wrong service. What's that about?
Will it allow me to run the verizon cab file from the SD card after I install the ROM without having to soft boot the phone?
Also, can I use PIM backup and restore to backup to my SD card and then restore after the ROM upgrade? Will that be a problem?
Thanks for your help and time.
Long post, so here is mine:
Your four steps are pretty close, other than mentioning the formatting of the sd card which you probably already know how to do via cmd, you have it right.
If you are not checking extra boxes in the kitchen, you can just use the ROM he posts underneath. If you want standard games, x-button, different versions of the phone or camera, etc or if you want to install your own OEMs then the kitchen is for you. Sounds like you are just planning on hitting everything, which I would suggest against (you don't want or need two phone versions, two cameras, etc). Leave the items where they are unless you know why you are changing them, dont click everything. Do some research on each item by googling xda here.
With regard to carrier cabs, run your carrier cab afterward to get functionality. Yes you can run from SD. I have never needed to do an A-Key reset, but others had to after upgrading radio. Just call verizon and tell them you are not able to authenticate your phone and they will reset your phone for you. Don't worry about what it is or why it happens.
Letting customizations run is for when you run the sprint update, which it doesn't sound like you are doing. If you are running the updates over sd card, you can let the customizations run, but since you dont have UC (research here) there is nothing to run so no worries; it will try to run your UC and see there is nothing there and just reboot, kewl. Don't use backups (Sprite or SPB or otherwise, best to use activesync and UC (see above).
Yes, the simple stuff I left out like formatting the card, etc. I understand that.
I guess I need to use the Kitchen because their are some items in there that I want, and some items that I don't know what they are, and I'll look into it like you said instead of just checking everything just incase it's something I might want or need in the future. Like I said I didn't click on everything, stuff that do the same thing, or different versions of the same thing I didn't click on. So, I think I just clicked on everything but Enterprise + IPSECVPN, Camera 4.05.30525.00, HTC CommManager - Titan 8 Button, and HTC Titan PhoneCanvas (Dailer).
It sounds like I won't need Enterprise + IPSECVPN, because it sounds like it's for some kind of Enterprise network with VPN, and I don't have something like that. I would like to know the difference between the version 4 & 5 of the Camera. I assume version 5 is better. I assume that the Touch 10 is better then the Titan 8 button, but would like to know the differences, also the differences in the Dialers. I assumed the Vogue was preffered since it was the default one that was checked. I haven't checked out the link you left for me yet, so I'll do that to see if I can see the differences.
Do I do a soft reset after I install the Radio and before I install the ROM and after I install the ROM and before I install the Carrier Cab file?
I'm having problems doing backups now. I don't have activesync because I have Vista and it doesn't use activesync. I was able to do backups with Outook and Windows, but they won't work anymore. I was using the USB data cable and they were working fine, but then I got a Bluetooth Dongle and installed that and it messed everything up. I tried one that was compatible with XP and downloaded different drivers and I couldn't get it to work. So, I purchased one that was compatible with Vista and it would sync but not backup my contacts and appointments with Outlook like it would with the data cable. I tried using the USB cable and it won't work anymore either. I can't even get it to make a connection anymore, and it will show an error on the phone. That's why I got the PIM backup and restore software to backup to and from the SD card. I haven't used it yet. I was going to try and use it, and then do a Hard Reset and then restore my data to my phone and try to get it to backup to my Outlook like it used to with the USB Cable. If I can get that to work I was going to try and do the Titan ROM update. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks for all the help!! Take care!

Is there a size limit to the ROM file RUU_signed.nbh? There should be. Let me know. Thanks.. Steve
Since this is your first ROM upgrade I think you should avoid the kitchen for now and just use DCD's compiled rom. (this is just my opinion) It will really simplify things for you.
As for PIM backup I would think it would work fine for contacts, but I think you will run into issues if you wan to restore SMS backups because of going from WM6 to 6.1 and the threading SMS that is used for 6.1.
I also saw this http://www.dashwire.com/ I haven't used it yet, but its free online solution for backing up your PPC.
As far as your question for soft-resets go, When you run the update the phone should reset on its own. I don't know why your active sync isn't working, but I would try and get it to work before running these updates to ensure proper connectivity of your device before running these updates.

Thats what you would need to get it to connect.
Gluck!

I've used PIM Backup since Jan of this year, and have had no issues restoring any SMS from a WM6 to WM6.1. It goes through and threads it all the 1st time you open up messaging, so if you have a large amount of messages, it will take a while to thread it all the 1st time you open it up....
For my first time I did not use the kitchen. I found it pretty easy to do. Just make sure you load the radio b4 the rom.
I just wanted to thank everybody for all there feedback and help, it was very helpful. The 3 main reasons I need to do the ROM update is to take advantage of the new features of WM6.1 and I need to be able to install Java and get my TomTom GPS software working. That's the 3 main reasons right now.
My phone is so messed up right now it's always locking up and having alot of problems from maybe all the apps I installed and tested and stuff. I need to reset it like 3 or 4 times a day. I think that's why I can't sync it with my computer anymore. I'm going to just back it up to the SD card and do a hard reset and get it working again and syncing with my computer and then do the ROM upgrade, etc. I will take your advice and do the stock ROM at first to figure out how to do the upgrade. I will then have to use the Kitchen to enable the GPS and the Java, right? When I do the Kitchen ROM later will I just need to upgrade the ROM, and not worry about any of the other procedures?
Also, when I do use the kitchen to create the ROM what is the size limitation on the ROM file?
Do you also have an option on which Dailer and Camera software?
Thanks again and wish me luck! LOL
Well, I downloaded the DCD compiled rom and it's filename is dcd_titan_3.2.2.exe and I ran it and it doesn't look like you can install it via the SD card. It looks like you have to do it via a PC Sync. Can you do a PC Sync after installing the Radio? Well, let me know. I think I'm ready to get started now. Thanks..
OK, well I got my phone to sync with my PC, but it sometimes has connection and disconnection problems, but I was able to get it to sync everything with my PC once.
I ran EPST and got my ESN and MSID, but I'm not sure what security information I should copy and I can't find the MSN number. There is alot of M.IP information. Do I copy everything in the M.IP Settings and M.IP Default Profile? Is there anything else I'm missing? Thanks.
May I suggest you take a digital Picture and scroll down and take a second one. This eliminates any questions on Handwriting and then blow them up on your PC if you have bad vision.

Getting Stock to Custom

Hello Guys,
I am pretty much new to Android here (Used to be a Windows Mobile user), although I am starting to read and learn more about it. I felt so happy to be out of the Microsoft Mobile spell, it was horrible and the software just lives in the world of its own, it lags at almost anything and in short, it just cant work.
Alright, so I got my Hero 2 weeks back and I wanted to know a few things, which I hope you can help me with it.
- I have about 60 over applications on my SD card, and I wish to use the MoDaCo ROM, How am I able to backup the applications from the current stock rom and transfer them to SD Card or somewhere else?
( Will Market still recognise the apps I downloaded after I flashed my phone to MoDaCo? )
- One more question, everything when the MoDaCo rom releases a new version, lets say from 2.9 to 3.0, must I reflash and build everything from scratch again?
Thanks A Lot,
Jeremy

hi,
well to answer your questions,
you can install all your applications directly on your sd card using app2sd.(it is incorporated in the modaco roms but bear in mind you have to correctly format ur sd card in ext3 partition for app2sd application to work . Once you've done that , you can flash anything and you'll not have any problem.
2)concerning paid applications, yes. market will automatically recognise applications you bought once you sign in your google account(they'll be recognised but you'll have to download it manually) but paid ones, nope.
3)when you upgrade from the same built( meaning from 2.8 to 3.0 modaco for example) , you dont have to wipe before flashing cause both roms use as base the official 2.73 rom. thus you wont lose any of your settings. However, when you upgrade from a modaco rom to community rom 1.6 , you should normally wipe.(builts are not the same here, one being cupcake and the other eclair)

Thanks A lot for your response, and I have some questions again.
- Where could I find an app to format my SDCard to Ext3? Will my Windows PC still be able to read EXT3?
- You mentioned that market will recognise my downloaded applications after I root the phone right? So, I dont really get it - I have to download it manually? Meaning? ( All my apps are free, no paid )
- Its pleasing to hear that I don't have to wipe when I upgrade to 3.0.
- Oh and something which I missed out, I am supposed to flash a Radio at the same time right? Which one is the best to date? I heard that there was many versions. ( I'm using a GSM Hero)
Sorry for the inconvinience.
Cheers,
Jeremy

[Q] "The file XXX is not signed with a trusted certificate" PB

Good Morning everybody,
Yesterday i installed the darkstone android Froyo on my HTC HD2, it worked pretty fine.
I reboot the phone to finish the installation and everything was normal. I download apps on the market ... all's good.
But i realize taht i've got no ringstone, i plug the phone on the computer and put the "media file" in the SD card.
I reboot the mobile and try to launch CLRCAD and HARET but i got the followinf message "The file XXX cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate or one of its components cannot be found"
I tried :
to format my SD,
to put a new install of android,
to reboot my phone,
to read different thread about this problem,
to test different program like Security configuration manager ...
I think that the problem doesn't come from Android build (it worked 2 times before) but win mobile ?
Here's my conf :
2.08 HDSPL
radio 2.12.50.02_2
darkstone froyo 2.1
rom 1.66 483 0 (76641) FRE (Bouygues telecom)
I don't understand what i did it wrong, it pretty worked and after 2 reboots i can't launch android.
Please can someone help me ?
Thanks in advance for your reply
Mike
Same issue
Hi,
I'm having this same issue. I hope someone can help. It doesn't seem to be an issue with the SD card. Did somehow the registry got corrupted? Please help.
Registry restore did not fix issue

To test my theory that it was a registry issue, I restored the registry that I backed up before installing Android. It DID NOT fix the issue.
What does that mean? It seems that everything that comes with the WM ROM works fine. It only effects the applications that were installed and not OEM.

I've now deleted my Android folder and the .folder and will see if that helps. I don't believe it will because I've removed the SD card and the programs I installed on the ROM still did not work. I'm hoping I don't need to do a hard reset. That would be a pain.
That only thing I did before having this issue was that I installed several games from the Android market place; final fantasy 6, angry birds, and a couple of others.
Had the exact same problem running FroyoStone Sense - V3.1. Couldn't even install SDKcerts. Tried everything & the only solution was a hard reset.

NDrive India Map Error

I had posted this issue earlier @ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1145417 but since nobody came up with a satisfactory solution..I am reposting this issue here with a few changes.
Edit : I purchased my optimus one on 17 June. It came with stock firmware V10d (2.2.2). My problem is ...on launching the ndrive app, the place where i am supposed to select my preferred map (india,in my case) it loads for a few seconds and a prompt comes up saying 'This device isn't authorized to make this operation' . Recently I also found out this issue arose with one of my friends who purchased an optimus one after me. both of us had similar firmware. Thinking it might be a firmware issue ..(& on recommendation of some ppl in my earlier thread) I reverted back to original stock 2.2 (v10b) and 2.2.1(v10c) & even a custom rom (devoid froyo on which I manually installed ndrive, only in custom rom) but it didn't help me. Same prompt arises there too. On taking it to LG service centre they are clueless completely. Ndrive Support through email says ur device imei is registered with us but we don't know why r u facing such an issue:confused. LG customer care over phone says use some other navigation software now and wait for gingerbread update..it might solve this. But now reading all the bugs that r coming out in LG gingerbread. I think I won't be upgrading. Currently I am on v10e (latest firmware update) . I hav tried everything out there like factory resetting, firmware reflashing, update ndrive from android market but nothing worked. I used Ndrive app on my previous phone GT540 and loved it. Therefore I want it here too. So Indian Optimus owners ..pls help me out !!
I think the IND_NT.map is corrupt that why you are not able to activate. I think someone uploaded the indian maps file (IND_NT.map) here. Try that.
What I usually do, is flash roms, and install ndrive from market. Open ndrive and the maps are activated without any fuss.
