Has anyone tried the newest Motorola BT headset with the Blue Angel. The unit just started shipping recently and is the successor to the HS810, which seemed to have a large approval factor (although not perfect). The unit has a flip to use short boom that also acts as an on/off switch. Early reviews indicate that the reconnect time is around a second or two. Based on all the BT issues reported here and other places, I will buy nothing without a first hand test, but I was curious if anyone had tried the HS850.

Motorola HS820 with the SX66

Have a Belkin Bluetooth 100M USB adapter .. seems to have problems... doesn't auto connect... have to connect manually..
I have the HS850. The connection to IIs is stable. The call pickup time when the boom is open is almost instantaneous. However when the boom is closed, the pickup time can range from 3 to 4 rings all the way to 8 rings and above.
From my experience, it's best to use the HS850 on the same side where you keep your IIs. For me, I clip my IIs on my left side of my body, so I use the headset on my left ear. This setup has proved very reliable for me. The static noise is lesser this way as well.
If I didn't do that, the call will sometimes take a long time to pickup, too unreliable to use. Even if the call is pickup, the other end will encountered alot of static noise.
HTC really need to improve the BT in IIs, if they can boost up the BT signal and reduce the static noise, it'll be perfect.
The HS850 imo is a good match to my IIs, both of them have the same color scheme. The ability to open and close the boom is a very nice feature.

I have the HS850 for use with my PDA2K.
I found it had alot of static before the ROM upgrade and reloading the BT Patch #2 from Imate. Now I have no problems.
The connection is lasts overnight even when my PDA2K is off. Once I turn it on, all I have to do is put on the headset and tap the button once, and they are synced.

I read on another forum that MS Voicecommand just released v1.5 and that it might allow VoiceCommand over Bluetooth...am going to download the trial tonight and find out. I have MS Voicecommand 1.0.
Still no voice command over bluetooth.
I got a hs850 and it is as it says here in that it syncs well and connects no problems but i am having trouble as my voice seems to being picked up by the phone rather than the hs850 mic.....should the phone be picking me up if i am recivving via the headset..or could the unit be faulty ??
I have the HS850 and it works perfectly with the PDA2K. My only gripe, and the reason I'm returning it is that the volume is very low. It works wonderfully well, which is great at home and in the office. I use it often in the car or on the metro, and it's just not loud enough for any environment with much background noise. Overall a very good unit, but not loud enough.

I currently have an XDA and want to upgrade to something but I want to get a device that can do everything I want it to. I am going to list a description of what I want and specific questions I have for you guys about how I can achieve each:
The Phone
It should have bluetooth, wifi, sd slot, integrated or detachable (but usable) keyboard would be nice. The speakerphone should work and should be able to get loud. The phone should sound good; people should not say to me "what's up with your phone?"
1) I am currently playing with an HP 6315 but the phone sounds like crap, especially if you turn up the volume all the way on the speaker phone. Do other devices sound good as a phone?
2) The keyboard on the 6315 is also pretty useless. The buttons are just too small. Has anyone used a detachable or bluetooth keyboard with usably large buttons that works well?
Car Kit
I would like to be able to get into the car, "dock" the PDA and have it charge and connect to my GPS (Tom Tom of course, it's the best right?). I do not want to have to manually connect the cable to the bottom of the PDA; I want a cradle type connection. I would like hands free cell phone access through this same connection. This same connection would also connect the PDA's audio output to my stereo via an FM transmitter or possibly a direct connection. I would also like a 2nd touch screen display (either wired or bluetooth) that could be mounted up on the dash to make GPS easier to view and use.
1) Are there any PPC PE car kits with a cradle like I am describing?
2) Do any of these have the ability to connect to a Tom Tom GPS receiver through that same base? I just need to break out a serial connection right?
3) If the answer to #2 is no, can I just take the car kit apart and connect some wires to my Tom Tom GPS receiver? Are there just TX, RX, and GND connections that I can just wire up?
4) If there is not an FM transmitter, are there audio connections that I can break out and wire up myself to do that too? Maybe just wire the hands free speaker to the FM transmitter?
5) Are there any external VGA screens for pocket PCs? I know WM2003SE supports VGA now but do they exist and are they touch screen?
Bluetooth Headset
I would like a headset that I can wear all day without looking like a major dork. I think it is impractical to have a headset in your pocket when the phone starts ringing. There is no way you can get that thing out and on your ear in time. Is there anything that I can just wear around my neck that could pickup me talking without wearing anything on my ear? I would also like this device to turn itself on as soon as it hears any audio output from the Pocket PC device, especially when the phone is ringing. I would like it to turn on quick enough that I can actually hear the audio, not 2 seconds later. I would also like it to turn itself off when I hang up. It should also have a button that can initiate Microsoft Voice Command. Ideally I would use the bluetooth headset as my phone. I would answer calls, hang up calls and initiate voice dial all with the headset. I would only pickup the PDA when I wanted to use it as a PDA. I would never again hold that screen up to my ear! I would also like this headset to be able to pair with my pc so I can use my VoIP softphone on the pc to make phone calls.

ANS - i use the xda2; though the loudspeaker isn't as good but generally i'm satisfied with it. but i never put the phone to my ear since i use a bluetooth headset (more comments on that one below)

ANS: which is probably one thing why i think i won't be getting the mda3...but i have used a foldable keyboard or used my laptop (with a 3rd party software) to use the keyboard and mouse to control the xda2
Bluetooth

ANS: i used to have the jabra but found it to be weird having to wear it on my ear all the time. plus if i wear it for long periods, i develop a "cramp" on my ear...and had some issues with bonding when activesync was being done. i NOW use the O2 headset; see attached pic. i like it because it's very discreet; it just clips on my collar / shirt and i let the headphone dangle inside my shirt pocket. or i can holster it on the clip-mike. the headset can receive or end calls, so when i'm driving i don't have to hold my pda. don't have any issues with it; no bonding issues, reception is great, mike is sensitive, etc.
23) I have never used a bluetooth headset so I don't know much about them. Do bluetooth headsets turn themselves on automatically when the phone rings?
ANS - yes, when the phone rings, it's immediately transferred to the headset and all i have to do is switch it on to receive the call (for my o2 the switch is on the headphone), or click it twice to reject the call.
4) Is there a bluetooth headset that I can answer and hang-up the phone with?
ANS - i think most of them do...
6) Even if my "over the ear" phobia can't be resolved, is there anyone who never has to put the screen up to their ear because their bluetooth headset works so well?
ANs - love my O2 headset and my bt is on 24 hours a day but when my headset is charging then i have to take the xda to my ear
Syncing

ANS - yes, you're talking about the bluetooth-activesync method. i'm using it via my diffusi bt dongle; works great and no need for cables. the only limitation i see is possibly the range since the xda and the laptop can't be separated for more than 30 or so meters. but syncing is very easy and convenient via bt...oh and the great thing about bt-activesync is that you can turn off the screen of your pda and still the laptop is synced. saves you on battery time...
2) Can a device pair with multiple devices at the same time? How many can it pair with?
ANS: not sure here but my xda is paired with my headset, my laptop and my tomtom...oh and my wife's ericsson...

Interesting reading, you certainly have put some decent thought into this. Let me share my experience with a bluetooth headset:
I have the Jabra BT200. It is a very comfortable unit, more comfortable than anything I have tried out there. I am using it with my iMate PPCPE and it works pretty well. 1 out of 20 times when the phone rings, the call for some reason won't get transferred to the BT headset. -But I can live with that. The sound quality is not as good as a regular wired earpiece. Using the BT headset will put an additional and noticeable strain on your phones battery resulting in less battery life before you need to recharge. I can answer and end calls from the Jabra BT headset but it does not work with MS Voice Command (Which I would discourage use of for other reasons: It's Not stable on the iMate, makes it hang needing hard reset) meaning you can't press a button on the headset and speak to the phone through the headset. The battery life of the Jabra is about 1 hour of talk time or abuot 1 day of standby with a couple of brief conversations during the day. The only complaint about he Jabra BT200 pertains to how I choose to use it: I usually don't waer it unless I'm on a call. When the phone rings, it sometimes takes too long to get the headset out of my pocket and properly on / in my ear. The little gel-like thing that goes in the ear rotates too easily.

i guess this depends on a mate's usage; but are you sure about the 1-day battery life? like i mentioned i used to have a jabra (bt200) and the standby would be around 3-4 days...that's why the bt250 came out which boasts a standby power of around 8-10 days. just curious...
oh and i didn't like fiddling around in my pocket when the phone rang...specially with the ear gel/bud sometimes rotating...or even coming off when i did get it out of my pocket.... that's why i changed headsets.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure about the 1 day usage. I usually get right around 1 days worth of standby, talk w. BT headset, checking email and playing a couple of games. -But that's fine for me. I have never found myself in a situation where I couldn't charge my iMate overnight so 1 full day of somewhat serious use is just fine for me.
Just wanted to know which is the best and most compatible, ie. where all the handsfree features work like voice dial etc. Bluetooth Handsfree for the Wizard. Not stereo headsets.
well i will let you know the moto h700 worked like **** on mine the volume was low. If i wasnt in a busy restaurante and in my car with windows up i could barely hear anything i want to know what people think also

I have the exact same problem with my Motorola HS820 bluetooth headset, extremely low volume, voice command never understands what I'm saying........it sucks!
BLUETOOTH HEADSETS
Ones I have tried:
gennum nxgen 5500 plus - http://www.gennum.com/audio/index.htm - the only one that was worth using it actually cut out the background noise i had a bus drive pass me my gf never even heard the bus i could talk on the phone while in the bathroom and my gf could not hear the echo it worked everywhere it took a while to charge but its not bad and was a bit flimsy it broke after about a month and a half because the ear clip broke off in my pocket now having read around i wish i had kept the broken one and contacted gennum because as i have been told other places if you call them and tell them they just ship out replacements barely even asking what happened the one i want to try that i haven't is the gennum zen headset which looks to do the same as the 5500 plus but is a little more stylish in my opinion and has a technology called leap which helps with face to face conversations with people in crowded areas as well although the downside to these units are there are not many places that carry the 5500 plus especially around me here in tennessee and the only place that carries the zen headset is ecost.com which if by some odd odd chance i didn't like the zen headset i couldn't return it because because ecost.com only allows you to exchange for other items on their website and with 179.99 price tag for it i am not gonna risk not being able to get my money back being more then half as much as my phone
nokia n80 - not to bad but so small it would miss direct the mocriphone and pick up something else and not my voice and hurt the inside of my ear picked up alot of background noise
jabra jx10 - had a big problem with it charging i tried 3 none charged turned out to be a bad charger once charged it picked up alot of background noise
motorola h500 - picks up background noise is loud enough most of the time but gets uncomfortable and rubs the outside of your ear canal raw if worn all day
motorola h700 - does better with background noise and is loud enough most of the time love the charging time 45 minutes to do a full charge but also get uncomfortable and rubs the outside of your ear canal raw if worn all day
plantronics m3000 - don't bother just background noise everywhere
plantronics voyager 510 - picks up less background noise but is just a bit big even though it is light although for the most part it is secure all the time and fairly comfortable
plantronics discovery 640 - great but after long perisods of wear after about a month or so the eargel begins to wear thin on the back and get rough and ended up rubbing my ear raw on the inside
plantronics discovery 645 - haven't tried it yet but from everything i have heard the battery life goes way down the drain when used with the dsp turned on and doesn't work that great anyway
motorola - hs850 just flops around to much on the ear as well as not loud enough and doesn't have any noise reduction and pics up all background noise
plantronics explorer 320 - really hurts the inside of my ear didn't even give it enough time to try thoroughly but from what i could tell it picks up background noise everywhere

Im using the hs500 and for the most part its been good. I agree as it may pick up background noise but its the most comfortable headset ive ever worn. The range is also pretty good but i havent compared this to other headsets.
I also have a jabra bt800. This headset is feature packed but is just too bulky. It bothers me when i have it on too long and i dont really want to go out in public with it. It even has caller id though.

Is there any headset that works with voice command? Im suprised microsoft havent pushed out a fix for this.
Also anyway to listen to media player through my motorola or do i absolutely need a stereo headset

I am. I had nokia phones for years, that is why I have the ck-7w. I have the speaker going into an adaptor so it is using my car audio speakers instead of the speaker they include.
Sound quality is very good, and there is plenty of volume. I have had conversations with the windows down at 70 mph. No one has ever complained they cant hear me. Although, I do naturally raise my voice when I am talking on it.
An issue is the voice dial. I didnt have many problems with the included voice tag software (although there were times it did not work) But using MS voice command has been a problem. When it does work, it works great, it always recognizes what I am saying. But it seems after making a call or two with it, the car-kit button stops working. A double press will redial the last call, and then a single press will end it, but a single press or press and hold (what is supposed to start voice command) no longer does anything. And voice command works great from the phone.
My only other issue, is when I get an incoming call from someone on a cell phone in my contacts list, sometimes I cant hear them at all and they can barely hear me. I never had this problem from an incoming land line phone call, and all outgoing calls are fine.
Actually one other thing (though it is not an issue for me) anytime a call comes in, the phone (I have an 8125) sends a generic ringer to the car kit. Whatever ring tone you have specified, rings from the phone itself, but not from the car kit. I really dont care about this, but others might.
I would just really like to get the bluetooth connections fixed.
Cardo Scala 500
I am a big fan of the Cardo Scala 500. I bought one three years ago, and was very pleased with it. When it was broken earlier this year, I decided to try some Moto products, none of which provided the noise cancelling that I needed...I spend alot of time in my car...so I went back the Scala 500, and I absolutely love this headset.
It's comfotable to wear for as long as you need to, the noise cancelling works exceptionally well, it comes with a lanyard and a belt clip, and it's inexpensive! It is compatible with voice recognition programs, and the volume is fantastic! I actually find myself turning it down. I have bought both of mine on eBay for about $40 shipped.
I highly recommend this headset.
SCALA is cool
Yeah Scala is really great, I amazed at its capacity to remain charged. I have charged it less often and it remains charged. Real value for money, connects smoothly to my O2 Mini S. No problem with voice activation. Great volume. Simply super.

I use the Jabra Jx10.
It works great and is easy to switch to anther phone (just turn off the last phone used and it auto connects to the next phone it was paired with). Might be an easier way, but this does work.
Only negative I have with all bluetooth is I can hear the hiss sound very well. But I have that problem with all bluetooth. Friend of mine has the exact same phone and bluetooth and he can't hear the hiss at all. But then again I think he must be going death.
My next bluetooth to try is the jawbone. Once it comes out in black.
My BT headset
I've got the Plantronics Discovery 645. Overall, I'd say it's very good. Great sound, people tell me I sound good, pretty good range, etc. I generally keep it on the lowest volume level, and that's just loud enough for me.
My only complaints are:
1. Whenever I answer using the BT headset button, it takes about 1-2 seconds for the audio stream to fully kick in. (That could be a BT thing, not just this headset.) But occasionally my TyTn's BT is off (I've noticed that it sometimes turns off overnight...still trying to figure out why), and when I try to answer using the BT headset button, I end up waiting about 3 seconds before I notice that there's something wrong. Then it's a mad scramble to get my TyTn out of the holster and answer manually.
2. The soft-gel earpiece, although soft and comfy, isn't a perfect fit for my ear. After putting it in and adjusting it, if I move my head just a little too fast, it will start to come loose to the point where I need to push it back in. I end up fiddling with it to find the "snug" point where it's secure enough to stay in. (Yeah I could use the little wire whip to hook over my ear, but I wear glasses, and that makes it uncomfortable.)
If this BT headset ever gives out (or my wife decides she wants it instead), I'll be checking out other BT headsets. Until then, it's good enough for the price.
So far I had more than 20 BT units. My latest one is simply the best.

No clip. but not like similar units with no clip, this one if very comfortable. You get in the box 3 sizes of ear/gel adapters. try and see which one fits you most and there you go.

Get one of the new jawbones. It blows everything else away. I have owned every headset mentioned here and returned them all within 30 days.. and with disappointment. I have been able to carry on a conversation without raising my voice in a convertible with the top down (windows up) at triiple digit speeds. It is the only headset that has been reasonably quiet on the other end enough that the person is willing to chat with me. THe buttons take some getting used to, and so does the fit wih all the included options. Try them out until you are sure it fits snugly.

I second your opinion. I love my jawbone. I can talk to anyone 2 inches away from my washing machine, and they can't even hear it when it's running. Truly amazing. Check it out at www.jawbone.com.
I just got back to work with a brand new HBH-IV835 and I have to say it's dissapointing.
The sound from the speaker is a bit muffled, like it's missing treble. Other end complains that my sound gets also muffled under noisier environments (Computer room).
Other complaints are the loysy answer/reject button, and no way to change the volume.
When the battery runs low, the earpiece won't alert the user in anyway (or not that I've heard) but just dies silently leaving you wonder what the hell happened.
On the plus sides, it sits comfy in the ear and it's light and looks cool.
Verdict: I'm gonna test drive this over the weekend and prolly take it back to the store and try Jabra JX10 instead. The sound quality is just lame.
I use the Sony Ericsson DS970 and find it great.
It wasn't without tirals and tribulations though as it was originally rubbish and I was quite disapointed.
I searched the forums and found that a hwhole host of bright people had made patches for the issues that work for most headsets.
To start I downloaded and installed the fit4cat tweaker (Now 2.0) which has boosted the audio quality and done a load of other funky things to my phone so that application is a must! for the Hermes.
l also downloaded a cab from somewhere called A2DPfix.CAB which stopped the skipping.(Yes.. it seems you need both)
THere is also another patch called bluetooth Voice command.cab that stops the Hemes occasionally outputing the audio to the phone rather than the headset and stops the voice command talking over your conversation.
Is there anything left that could be fixed?? Yes.. there are still no tags for numbers from the phone but I can live with that. And sometimes the phone behaves a little slow when reading mail whilst listening to music and its downloading something. but thats ok for me.
All these patches are available if you read the forums and take in what has been said so you can find them.

After raving about mine, all of the fellows in the office are getting them. They're that good. It's the only BT earpiece that my girlfriend will let me talk to her on.

Please post in detail about compatibility and functionality. My current headset the flamingo really BLOWS with the 8525. My Jawbone is coming on Friday and I am planning on doing a hard reset for the arrival.
MSVC over BT has been a total disaster. Now I just want BT that works.

JAWBONE REVIEW
So here is my short review of the Jawbone (Bluetooth) based off only a few hours of testing. Look for an edit if things change.
First of all... this is the best presented Bluetooth I have ever received. Just wait until you open the box, it almost makes you want to take a picture.
But that's just fluff now the real stuff.
Calls are noticeable better on my end.
The Bluetooth hiss is almost gone for me, and I imagine most would say non exist at all.
Noise Shield seems to work well. I turned on my bathroom fan and shower as a "loudness" test then called my wife. She could not hear the fan at all, and could only hear a slight static from the tub running. (which is very loud).
Outgoing calls seem to be the same as my Jabra JX10. At least to my wife. I think it sounds better when I had some one call me on my new jawbone.
It fits very well. I have trouble with some ear loops and ear buds on other Bluetooth I have tried, but they provide you with enough to get a near perfect fit. I can wear it without the ear loop like my JX10 with only minimal fear of it falling out.
I do not use voice command so I cannot rate.
I do use voice dial and so far it has not had any trouble in a variety of noise levels (further testing needs to be done for me to feel comfortable on this, but it is at least as good as the JX10).
It does not call back someone when double clicking (like it should on some phones) I love this as I store it in my pocket and am prone to clicking the button by mistake.
It rings faster than my phone rings. Meaning that I can hear it in my ear before it ever rings out loud on my phone.
Pressing the phone answer key auto connects to the jawbone. I can live with this, but I personally would like it not to auto answer... I mean normally if I hit the green talk button on my phone it is because I can't find my Bluetooth so I would rather talk on the phone and not it.
It is noticeable larger than the jx10. Which see my last part about loosing my Bluetooth is not necessarily such a bad thing. however it is very light not light enough to drop it by mistake, but light enough to wear on your ear for a long time. (Although IMHO you should not wear it on your ear all day long, the borg look is just not in. but this is just my editorial opinion.)
The manual says it is Bluetooth 1.2 complaint. So I am not sure if it is really a Bluetooth 2.0 that happens to work down to 1.2
Despite that I can still reach the same range as my JX10 (which I am pretty sure is 2.0).
It comes with an AC charger and a USB cord. (USB plus into AC charger so you can charge either way). The Manual it comes with is top notch.
OVERALL: I like this Bluetooth. If my opinion changes I will post it. Sound is the best I have used on incoming and ties for outgoing with my JX10. And I have used about 6 different BT over the past 2 years. It looks good and feels good.
Oh and for all you who hate the flashing blue light... this one is a much less annoying dim white.

I was thinking having Jawbone prime as my car bt device.
Looked and searched through the internet, nothing was reasonable price and suitable for working out / treadmill until I ran into this.

I use the s305 with my ATT tp2 with energyrom, and it works fine. The incoming call quality is nice and loud, and people on the other end report that they can hear my clearly, but ofcourse its nowhere near as clear as my jawbone 2 in the outgoing department. The volume is pretty decent, with the phone on 100% volume in both system and pocketplayer, i can leave the s305 at about 50% volume and still be able to get enough volume to drown out a moderately filled starbucks.
65 dollars seems a bit steep though, i bought it locally at a fry's for 50, and prior to that i saw it even cheaper still online, i just couldn't wait for delivery as i was going on a trip and needed a replacement for my plantronics 855, which had better noise isolation but the incoming calls had my voice in it as an echo, and in-ear solutions sometimes is a hit or miss in fitment....in my case it was a miss.
I recommend the s305's if you prefer to still be able to hear around you, i use these when i'm cycling so i can still hear my surroundings.
I should also mention that since A2DP and headset are two different profiles, you can pair your jawbone for headset (its the only profile it supports) and deselect headset but leave bt stereo checked for the s305 and they will not conflict with each other even if they're both on simultaneously. The s305 also supports multiple connections simultaneously so if you happen to have a seperate bt stereo source (i use a samsung p2 as a dedicated mp3 player to save on my phone's power sometimes) you can pair the s305 to both and have them both be connected at the same time, and it will switch from one mode to the other if a call comes in and switch back when the call ends.
i have a nokia bluetooth headset which i think is brilliant. i dont listen to music on my tp2 but always use it with my nokia e51. it should work fine witht he tp2 aswell.

Dell BH200 Bluetooth Headset
Pros: Awesome Music Quality, Comfortable
Cons: On answering a call it would disconnect and shutdown, making it useless for that purpose.
Motorola S9 Bluetooth Headset (My experience, not sure about in general)
Pros: Also has good music quality, Allowed me to answer calls, good call audio quality,
Cons: Not too comfortable but manageable, I heard (and experience) that it does not do well with moisture (sweat, etc), and most important of all it tends to stutter constantly. If i am streaming music (Over Pandora for instance) it stutters to the point of being unlistenable. Sometimes it has bouts of clear playing but no longer than 60 seconds. With WIFI off as is usually recommended, it's a little better as in the stuttering happens at 0:45 - 1:30 minute intervals.
So after this very lengthy explanation here's my question: Is there a bluetooth headset on this earth that will do at least the following:
- Play stereo music of at least decent quality over A2DP (Willing to compromise on quality for functionality)
- Be able to answer calls
- NO STUTTERING!!! even if only with wifi off. I can deal with having to turn wifi off but when it's already off and it still happens it's kind of annoying.

I've had good luck with both Jabra's BT3030 and Sony's DR-BT140Q headsets. The BT3030 is a dogtag-like device on a chain into which you can plug any standard headset. The DR-BT140Q is a more traditional all-in-one set with earpieces that rest against the outside of the ear.
I get almost no stuttering on either set with Wi-Fi turned off. The sound quality is good with both, though the BT3030 is better, with deeper bass. I've had the BT3030 for a few months and have had no problem answering calls. I've been using the DR-BT140Q for only a few days and haven't had any calls come through when I've been using the set, so I can't say how it will work. But I don't anticipate any problem, based on how well everything else is functioning.

I'm using an iTech R35. It's a small thing with a mic, buttons and a 3.5mm jack.
Once in a while (2 to 3 times an hour) i gets a small lag but it very rare. Works greta for both music and phone call. I'm using sennheiser px200 with it or my blackberry bold 9000 headset.
I'm using a Jabra BT320S and it works very well.
No problems taking calls, pretty decent audio quality (even with original earbuds), and almost no stuttering with WiFi off.
I know these are a bit old now, but I would imagine that whatever Jabra replaced them with would probably be ok too.

Just bought a Jabra BT3030 today and VERY impressed with it so far.
I have experienced absolutely no stuttering so far and all the buttons work perfectly.
The sounds quality is very good with some really good bass added to it which I always found lacking with the wired headset.
I also like it as it can be used with normal headphones if I wish, although the included earphones are very good... and most important of all... it looks cool!

Ok I have have a few BT headsets with my G1:
Plantronics 855 - excellent noise canceling and stereo, the ear loop was rather brittle and broke on me. I lost it . . . . highly recommend
Plantronics 655 - worthless, no wait . . . I can ebay it.
BlueAnt Z8i - had to reconnect after each recharge, low audio levels, callers that were used to the 855 complained about background noise, when it got run over I smiled
Jawbone Icon - Wow I have had it for a week and I love it, it stays connected, it is loud and clear, the noise cancellation is almost as good as the 855 (I thought it would be better than the 855 because of the Jawbone name). It has caller ID (number only, but hey not bad). It took a week to get invited to the MyTalk website, but I love the Dial2Do app (just a shortcut using the multifunction button to direct dial the service as far as I can tell). Still playing with Dial2Do, but I think I am going to load the voice dial app next. Only 1 week, but I am still finding little supprises.
I was on the fence and almost got the voyager pro, I have never seen a bad review of that one. It came down to the fact that I keep it in my pocket and I figured that I would break it quickly.
It is amazing what a BT aficionado one can become when the ear speaker on you G1 dies. . . .
free memory?
Before you shell out big bucks on a new headset, how much free memory do you have? I have a cheap southwing 202 ($20 from eBay) but it works just fine when i have more than 20mb of ram available. Running widgets and unused processes take ram away from big programs like pandora. Get a task manager from the market and clear up some ram, then see if that helps first.

im running a crappy nokia bh-601 and it works great when im at home or in the car (aka stationary) it gets.... i dont wanna say choppy. lets say the lyrics go "living is easy with eyes closed" (yes good song) if im walking/ jogging it will cut out at certian moments but continue the song on point ie. living is.............easy with eyes...........closed.
i should also note that this doesn't happen with calls

PS, I've owned the motorola s9 set and it sucked, 2 pairs I went thought... My ears hurt and they die if show water to them... sport my ass.
I went out like 20+ times snowboarding with this set in my helmet and in -20 degree C.. never a problem...
They seem to work best on 2.1 roms... not sure why, 1.6 roms will work but after answering a call you might need to power them off and back on to get the music to stop skipping... they work like a charm in 2.1 roms tho..

I got samsung sbh 500 - despite design disadvantages (must worry about two plastic elements that just like to disappear) it's one of most "well-sounding" headset - especially for music (I've tested plenty of them including almost all jabras)
I bought a pair from an ebay seller called "artyguru" (hxxp://stores.ebay.co.uk/Artyguru-Superstore) Brand I'd never heard of: "Bluedio" model number AV890, They cost about $10 (delivered) and I was amazed by how GOOD they sounded when paired to my G1. My son was jealous, so I bought HIM a second set, to use with his iPhone 3GS. Again, great music quality. The (tiny) BT module features two buttons, and two "rocker switches" - "Take Call" and "Play/Stop" buttons, and "vol+/-" and "advance/regress track" for the two-way rockers. One of my better EBay investments!

These problems are not necessarily with the BT device. There are some serious issues with BT on the Dream (all Android mostly) CM and TeamDouch has solved most of these issues with CM6.
I have the Jabra BT3030. With a little bit of hacking you can get this BT Necklace. It sounds great. Answers and stays connected. Very little skipping (unless in a 2.4Ghz busy area, lots of wifi, mobile wireless phones, wireless mouse...) I use to have pitch problems. When the phone was CPU busy, the music pitch would get higher and lower. (Well documented on Google) Since CM6 I rarely have problems with BT.
Where you are is important.
I've use an Altec 903 and Motorola S705 and had very different results.
The Altec sounds pretty good. But if I get away from anything around me, like in a parking lot, running outside, even walking in the gym away from any equipment or walls, it cuts out a LOT. It seems to need something to reflect off of, or I need to wear the G1 above elbow height. Armbands are good.
The Motorola is rock-solid, scary so. But sound quality is marginal.
Run a 2.2 ROM and use the DSP Manager to get some bass into it, and mild compression if you can bear it.
