hi everyone
ive just bought myself a XDAIIs pda, ive set up TOMTOM 3 sat nav and have bought a BT TomTom GPS receiver. sat navs working perfectly. but got one BIG problem, i cant find myself a decent car kit. ive tried the Arkon CM531, didnt like it-too many wires and very messy, got carkit with fixed charging through the cig-lighter- did not fit my phone as cradle was for XDAII.
Im really stuck so could anyone please help me. im looking for a car kit which will allow me to slide my xda2s in and out easily, hold it in place and also charge it at the same time whilst its in the cradle.
ANY SUGGESTIONS
Same here ! I could not find anything decent. Any suggestion welcome !

How do you deal with the Arkon RF/speaker interference?
venkie9910,
sorry for repeting my question, but I did not go an aswer yet:
I read here that it was unacceptable...

how do you deal with it?
Thanks,

I got the brodit one from handnav with a pro-clip and it fits perfectly and looks good (once you've removed the tacky brodit sticker). Only problem is that the hard-wired version isn't available for the PDA2K yet and the cost! A bundle including the clip, holder and charger set me back £70, but you pay for what you get.
Hard wired one is now available with or without gps ps2 port, I have just ordered one with gps, cost £59.99 plus p+p, the pro clip for fitting to the dash cost £15.99. hopefully it will arrive next week
Hi all, I have this Bordit 849582 for sale: http://w3.easytrade.net/brodit_shop/product.dip?item=1225583&fid=1225727
Just buy yourself a Rikaline GPS mouse . Attach it in your car and slide your Qtek 2020 into the cradle and start navigating!
Interesting? Mail me or just reply!
I think people hurry into buying a bluetooth GPS which leaves them with only a hardwired option for in-car. (some exceptions with multiple bluetooth capability) I prefer the inverse combination. If you're using your nav software you need to see your phone so its going to be in a cradle anyway. If you just pop down the shops you can leave your phone in your pocket and your bluetooth carkit still works.
I'd go for a cradle with GPS built in, or a connector for extrnal GPS. Preferably powered (battery hungry these PDAs!) then BT carkit.
But be careful with carkit choice. Some have the awful echo problem. Can't add much more than that except that an M2000 and Nokia CK-7W is NOT a good combination :-(
There is a decent carkit coming that supports talk function and wired GPS. It is already available for the 2020 and its coming for the 9090. It`s based on a CMPC Carcomm cradle. If everything goes right it should be released next week. I will buy it definatly and will keep everybody posted.

Cheap and Effective Magnetic Mount
Hi,
how about trying a magnetic mount?
http://www.tangshop.com/magnetic-cell-phone-holder.html
Cheap, effective and neat (inconspicuous), but you have to stick the metallic mounting plate onto the back of your PDA (somewhere in the middle, preferably on the battery). Fortunately, the sticky pads are from 3M so they are strong and the residue can be removed with normal dabbing of scotch tape. The metal plate is thin so it does not affect the fitting to existing casings.
The part that sticks to the dash is using the same adhesive too.
I've tried this with a Bluetooth GPS and the XDA IIs on the dash, and the magnet is strong enough to hold the PDA in place even through fast corners and bumps ...
Cheers,
David
Another option is from this company:
http://www.thb.de
However I couldn't find a picture of the cradle.
I have however seen the cradle in the flesh and is it very very nice... even has DSP processing for the handsfree.
It is very pricey though.
Forgot to also add this link.... has a few pictures

I do not know if they have one for the tom tom as I do not know what a tom tom is, but ProClipUSA.com has some great PDA holders for the iMate PDA 2K

Newbie question maybe but did do some searches first and couldn't locate any info.
I have just bought XDA IIs and I'm looking for a car mount for it. There are plenty out there for the XDA II but not yet for the XDA IIs, is there any physical diffeence between the bottom of these units, i.e the connecting/charging port.
Ideally I want one that will also charge the PDA and a GPS unit when I eventually get one. I have seen a Carcomm holder/charger for the XDA II that looks good but unsure if it's suitable. (available from TotalPDA, their product ref 4738)
Effectively two questions here as I try to solve one problem, any advise appreciated.
Cheers
Similar BUT different
The position, general design and connector pinouts for the bottom port are identical from the first Wallaby to the new Blue Angel, BUT the physical connector on the Blue Angel (XDAIIs, MDAIII, SX66) has a slight alteration from the connector in previous generations. There is a small keying protrusion on one side of the Blue Angel accessory port. Several owners of Blue Angels have been forcing the older type connectors into the Blue Angel and while the pinouts and connectors themselves mate up, doing this places mechanical strain on the connector in the Blue Angel as it has a mating protrusion that normally would fit into the keyway on the plug, but now is mechanically forced outward. Over time, this has a strong potential for damaging the connector on the Blue Angel.
Check out this thread as it has pictures of what I am describing http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=12092
So, at this time, I have not found ANY Blue Angel specific accessories(ie designed to mate with the newer connector). In time these surely will appear. In the meantime, a little work with a Dremel tool can create the keyway in the plugs on older generation accessories and doing so will no harm those accessories but it WILL protect the connector in the Blue Angel.
BTW, I have both the first gen and the last gen, so I have accessories whose connector will have to be modified

I am still using a Clic on car kit I had for my Ipaq 5550, i purchased a new cable when I got the XDA2, and then used some black hard foam on the cradle, as the xda2 was a little thinner. Then when upgrading to the XDA2s, it used the same connection, and fit just as snug.
Seidio is supposed to be releasing a car kit for the PDA2K sometime this month. Check out http://www.seidioonline.com/

You need a car specific ProClip also from same website.
Car mount for XDA IIs
Hi, I have just purchased an Arkon car mount from ebay at £29.99 + £5 p&p. It has power and plugs for GPS I am using a Holux Bluetooth that I am powering from the auxillary power port on the unit, it has sockets for hard wire GPS receivers as well and a buit in amplified speaker. Go into ebay and key in XDA car mount. The same unit was £55 on Tottenham Court Road, I will say though that the power conector to the IIs was stiff so the previous guy saying about the difference is probably correct. Will get the Dremil out tonight.
Thanks for all the replies, I have now ordered an Arkon CM532 from E-bay and feel (fairly) confident of modifying the connecter to suit my XDA IIs as required.
Merry Xmas to you all.

As it turns out I didn't order a mount as an e-bay company i had already approached came back saying they were hoping to release a specific mount for the XDAIIs around about now.
I've just e-mailed them to see if they've got them in yet.
Keep us updated!

Arkon CM531 works with o2 XDA IIs
Hi Guys, I've been using my Arkon CM531 (made for the o2 XDA II) fine with my new o2 XDA IIs. This is a relief as it means that I won't have to dish out more money! Whoo hoo!
I use a mag mount kit which is £8.99 at PDA Mods http://www.pdamods.com/proddetail.asp?prod=WSMMOUNT&cat=23
On the XDAII i put the small metel plate supplied under the back cover and that works perfectly. In the XDAIIs there is no battery cover so i have ordered a proprota alu-leather case http://www.proporta.com/F02/PPF02P05.php?t_id=978&t_mode=des
which has a magnetic mount built in. I have not received it yet.
I then use a Wired GPS that i brought from PDA Mods for the XDAII. This also powers the XDAII. This fits and works perfectly in the XDAIIs.
If you have both devices and look closely at the XDAII & XDAIIs sockets there is a slight difference on the XDAIIs. But this is backward compatable. IE you can use any connector desiged for the XDAII on the XDAIIs but you can not use a connector designed specifically for the XDAIIs in the XDAII.
Just take a look at your power dongle for the XDAIIs it WILL NOT fit your XDAII. Strangely though on the cradle they fitted a backward compatible connector and not a XDAIIs specific one. So you can plug your XDAII into the XDAIIs cradle.
Anyone found a decent car mount for the wizard
I need one for satnav. I've seen one for about £45 that has a built in speaker etc - don't really need that
Would be interesting to hear (and see pics) of what people are using
Hi Hays,
Have you considered the Brodit holder solution?
Have a look (link below) or drop me a message and I will be happy to advise (Wizard listed either as Xda Minis or MDA vario)
you have the choice of passive holders, active holders charged by cig lighter or permanent fixed power version also for hidden cables etc. All attach onto a proclip mount that is specific to your vehicle, in a variety of positions on your dashboard.
Hope that helps,
Cheers, Bryson
That kit looks very good quality - seems quite expensive though !!
I use different cars at work, so I need something that can be moved easily. Could I use the holder with a different mount, ie perhaps a vent mount (that's not too hard to move from car to car) or failing that a suction mount (not too keen on a suction mount due to the smaller display of the mini s )
Was thinking of this

Bryson, I'm after a active holder with no cable attached, so that I can add a "Y"-type lighter plug cable that will charge both my Qtek 9100 and my Bluetooth GPS mouse. (I had a similar one for my h6340, and want to stay with Brodit.)
Is Brodit developing such a holder design soon?
Hi,
Yeah there are 2 available from Brodit, codes 848650 & 848655 (Called passives so you can insert your cable as mentioned)
Check this link and scroll down past the Xda Exec holders to the Mda Vario/Xda Mini S/ Qtek 9100 holders
http://www.dsldevelopments.com/tmobile/tmobile.html
Hope that helps, take care, Thanks!
Hello,
I got mine shiped from the US to Germany within 2 weeks from www.thepocketsolution.com which have a fast feedback and good customer support in general. The mount device works perfectly well as expected.
Thomas
I got the brodit clip and horizontal holder for my XDA Mini S from dsldevelopments, and am very happy with both the clip and the service!
I tried one of those cheap ebay mounts that clips onto the airvent but thay was useless and moved all over the place. The brodit clip goes over my S60's vent perfectly and is very solid.
The only thing I would suggest is instead of using the supplied screws to attach the holder to the mount - use velcro. I did this on mine so that I can quickly remove the holder and put it in the glove box. Good for security as passers by cant see I have a satnav mount and wont try breaking in to see if its in the glovebox!
Hi,
Instead of velcro, Brodit make a 'Moveclip', one part fits on the back of the holder, the female (2 supplied for x2 proclips) part fits onto the proclip, and both parts slide together, giving an very strong fix, and also the flexibilty of being able to move a holder between 2 vehicles with proclips/gooseneck installed. (also serves the same purpose of being able to remove the holder from sight to stop the thieves!)
Hope that helps, heres a link:

Cheers,
Bryson!
instead of a car mount I did something different. I just bought myself a nice case for the mda vario (e.g. noreve, piel frama). These cases are made of leather, and therefore they have good grip.
I just lay the case on the kilometer radial in front of me, and it stays there. Even in sharp corners.
The advantages are: cheap as you don't need a car mount and thief protection as there is no car mount visible.
Anyone found a good car holder for the TyTN? I've looked through ebay and found a few and all of them have no charging/power connector. I don't know which one fits well. I'm looking for a good cheap holder with ot without a power connector. Any recommendations?
Try the Brodit range:

There's also a thread over at Modaco.com about their stuff:

That looks really good! But I can't afford to spend £40 on a holder. I went for a simple one from ebay for a fiver. I only use it when I go on long trips and use my tytn for satnav which is very seldom.

Things to consider though is if on long journey the phone might need charging so make sure the mini usb has enough room for a car charger to be plugged in. I use the charger for Holux GPSlim 236 satnav receiver to charge both devices when in the car. The only other problem I had with my M2000 was when accelerating hard or going fast round corners the phone would be pulled out of the cradle in fact I tried loads of cradles so I'm hoping this smaller phone doesnt suffer the same problem otherwise it could be elastic band time again.
Looking at that cradle in the top link it looks like one of the bottom lugs will block access to the mini usb which is no good really. Oh well only one way to find out and thats go and buy it.
I bought one from a Vodafone shop. It's just known as a universal car holder. Cost a fiver and works great.
I can still access the mini usb and all buttons while it's fitted in there.
Hope this helps
I'm an XDA newbie, though not a stranger to PDA's (have had Axim X3, TRG Pro and PalmPilot).
I got my unit 2nd user as I needed a phone and PDA combined, but not enough cash for a new one.
I haven't got a Stereo headset for listening to MP3's.
I have seen the connector on the top for the handsfree unit and I have the mono mic and earpiece with 2.5mm plug; but what are the other connectors around the outside by the headset jack for? Is there a special adaptor for stereo?
Also, has anyone come across a good 'universal' charger at a reasonable price? I have a nice little universal battery charger (4 x AA) which has the USA flat pins as standard but these fold flat onto the unit and allow UK 13A or European 2-pin plug-top plates to be snapped on. Something like this for the XDA IIs would be ideal as I sometimes have to travel abroad.
Now if anyone's also come up with a *folding* Desktop USB cradle that would be really handy...
Look forward to hearing from you all
For those who are looking for a car holder for their TP2 and can't find one yet, I have made a useful discovery.
The Brodit TyTNII Holder actually fits the TP2 better than my TyTNII ever did!
http://www.dsldevelopments.com/brodit/holder/HTC+TyTN II-Brodit-Holder.asp
I tried it last night and it slid into the fixing nice and easily.
The only issue I had was that I have an active holder, so the miniUSB connector wasn't lined up and so wouldn't charge the phone. I'm sure with some careful modification it wouldn't be too difficult to sort that out though!
I'm now in two minds as to whether I even bother getting a proper TP2 kit when it's out!

Depends, you can just screw it into your car, but I use the Brodit Proclip which is different for every car. Mine hooks around the side of the radio and into another groove and is very solid, then the holders screw into the proclip.
Proclips are probably the best way forward, no holes in your car
I have a dashmount kit from www.dashmount.co.uk as the proclip from brodit doesn't seem to fit my car correctly.

I have the passive brodit holder for the TYTN II, but TP2 doesn't fit without scrating it.
seems to fit in my origional htc trinity carrier perfectly, only problem is i cant charge it lol so ill have to get a new one eventually
thank you for the tip!!
I have a Brodit Active holder for my old P3600 (Trinity) and it fits real nice...
After some modifications (I cut off the USB part, and super glued it back on at the correct place to fit my TP2) I now have a Brodit Active holder that I can use again!
No scratches what so ever!!
(saves me about €50 )
^Good Tips...Brodit has always been my favorate car holder for all my devices!
do you know when the TP2 model will be released?
thanks
asked brodit and they say later next week...
Brodit holders now available. Just got to wait for them to filter to your resellers now.
Active: http://www.brodit.com/productinformation.jsp?anr=512021&sortiment=null
Passive: http://www.brodit.com/productinformation.jsp?anr=511021&sortiment=null
As I have already said, looks more or less identical to the Kaiser mount with a central support.
A word of warning to people buying, I had 2 active Brodit mounts that killed 2 different Kaisers because the charger unit was dodgy.
In the end I got another replacement from Brodit but I was too cautious of them by then, so I hacked an official HTC car charger into it.
I am personally gonna get the passive holder and use my HTC charger as I'm not going to take the risk again.
The htc supplied trinity/m700 one fits a dream but needs the bottom cutting out a little as the plug socket is in a different location. Damn good sturdy mount as well.
not sure I'll be getting any until it is confirmed that the pins are aligned and the phone does charge when using GPS.
I had issues with the Brodit one for the Kaiser and when it never worked they blamed HTC

Hi, yes I saw those I am leaning more towards the active one though.
Thanks anyway.
Messa
I ordered a passive mount this morning and a new proclip to see if they ship the right one this time!
I'd try and heed my advice about the active mounts. At least wait until some other poor guinea pig has tried one!
I asked HTC This:
Is there an option for the HTC Touch Pro2 with the HTC 3-in-1 connector bundle?
Or is this compatible:
Set A
- 513021 Active Holder, Tilt Swivel
- 945011 Adapter Cable
Set B
- 512021 Active Holder, Tilt Swivel
- 945011 Adapter Cable
In terms of connecting my HTC touch Pro2 to a charging unit (built in the car) and also using the AUX out of the device via the mini-USB.
I want to know if the 3-in-1 cable/connector is able to be “plugged” in into 513021 of 512021
They answered me this:
It will also come a 3-in-1 holder for this device. The item no will be:
519021 short cable
520021 long cable
I hope those will be ready within 2-3 weeks.
One thing that you need to keep in mind with the 3-in-1 cables in that if you plug it in, the external speaker gets disabled. therefore if you're planning on using the mount for satnav, you'll need to hook it up to an aux-in on your car speakers in order to get any sound!
