Problem with PocketIE with CSD/GSM - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

I'm using my Siemens SX56 to try and log on to the internet with Cingular Wireless Internet (not the GPRS), after dialing up, I was connected but everytime I tried to log on Pocket IE and browse, it says "The Page Cannot Be Found" something like that. I searched and tried everything that people posted but it still didn't work, any ideas how to fix this?

do you have to setup dns servers? to find out if it is dns related, try to browse to a sites ip address instead of hostname. for example try, http://205.152.121.3

[Q] Wifi with login redirect

I bought my gtab about a week ago and have it running nicely with Vegan. I had some trouble with the market but thanks to this forum got it working
Here is my last real problem. I work at a hotel. We have wifi for our guests which redirects you to a login page when you open your browser. It does not require a password you just have to click a button to accept the terms. Until you do this you have no internet connection. I can connect and even pick up an IP address but it will not go to the authentication page thus no internet. I have tried manually entering the URL for the login page and have also tried the IP address for the login page. I have tried setting a static IP with he correct gateway and DNS addresses. I have even tried the wifi web login app. Nothing works.
Any ideas how I can get this working?

I assume you've tried installing different browsers?
sent from my g-tablet using tapatalk
I have tried the stock browser, Dolphin HD, Firefox, and Fennec. I am going to try Opera today. Has anyone had luck with any particular browser?
Hi,
I think some systems like hotel-provided WIFI work by setting a proxy into the browser. If that is the case with your situation, it may require a different kernel, plus an app. Search this forum for "proxy", e.g.:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=891605&highlight=proxy
Jim
Okay dumb question of the day. How would I determine if this wifi connection uses a proxy or not?
When I connect from my computer and run a tracert the first hop is the gateway and the second hop is always 192.168.50.1. Would that be the proxy?
I am Currently connected to this wifi with my laptop and I am not behind a proxy. I tried installing the Kernel referenced in the link you provided and also installed transproxy according to the thread still no go.
Does anyone have any ideas how I can get this thing to connect. My wifi indicator is on shows I am connected but no internet.
I've had my gtab connected on hotel wifi, and similarly on airport wifi. If I recall, the redirected confirm page opened in a second tab in the background but was not put in focus. I had to manually switch to citing the TnT browser. If that's not it also look for a floating frame within the same window. I've seen this show up way off to the side, really had to scroll around to find it.
Just checked this no go. I am getting the unable to connect page on every browser I try. I did not see any other tabs popping up either.
Okay so I sent an email to the tech support for our wifi network. They responded and said Adnroid devices have trouble with DHCP because of their network and that it should work if I set a static ip. Now the problem is how do I set a static IP in Vegan. I have tried the app Static IP and it doesnt' seem to wan to work.
Nevermind just figured it out.
Okay for those that are interested or may search and find this thread later. I never would have guessed that would fix it but using a static IP address solved the problem. Thanks to those who tried to help

[Q] Accessing local intranet

Running Vanilla AOSP Gingerbread 2.3.3, finally managed to get this thing to talk to the local network here at work (it's PEAP authenticated, TnT Lite won't see it).
Now I'm running into the issue of not being able to access local intranet sites with my browser. Instead if just takes me to google search.
Running Dolphin HD right now. Any ideas? I'd really like to use this tablet at work to access the local intranet. If it won't do it, that's going to be a problem.
I would download the program ipconfig from the market and make sure you are getting the correct ip information on your network. Getting the incorrect DNS server can cause this issue. You can also downlond ping from the market and try to ping the internal web address. Just a troubleshooting step that I would starti with.
I was able to ping it using the Terminal Emulator, so that is working at least.
Well...I am getting my Gtab deliverred via fedex tomorrow and will be able to test my local intranet sites with the same setup and hopefully be a little more helpful. I will keep you posted with what I find,
Ok, I was wrong, I can't ping. I was pinging a server that is exposed on the external internet (Oops). The internal-only servers are unreachable. The DNS servers, though, are correct.
This is interesting.
From home I can access my work email through Exchange for Android, no problems. However now that I'm online at work and on the internal network, it doesn't work. I suspect it's because it's on the internal intranet now instead of trying to route to it through the internet.
I suspect that, while Vanilla 2.3.3 AOSP supports PEAP, it doesn't really support PEAP.

This one doesn't, as far as I can tell.
My iPhone connects to it fine, other people are able to access it with iPads and Android phones.
I'd ask IT for help, but we're technically not supposed to be using it.

Had the same problem and it turned out to be the Proxy settings.
Got it working.
Now running VEGAn 5.11 and it connects just fine. Not having the issues with the email anymore, either. However some of the intranet sites only pull up if I know the IP directly, apparently the browser has a hard time with port redirection on the URL (it doesn't care for 'evolutionsc:8080' very much at all).
Now I just need to find a browser that can handle JIRA without formatting issues.

I seem to be having the same problem but I honestly don't know how to update the proxy settings for my work network (which does use a proxy server). I'm using Vegan 511, anyone know how to specify a proxy server for the network connection to use? I can't find anything in the wireless&network settings area.

[Q] OpenVPN Routing Problem

Hello
I have installed OpenVPN and its logging on to the vpn and is visible on the network list BUT I dont get any connection to another client in the vpn. I tried to ping another client from my SGS2 and from a client to the SGS2 but its always a timeout. I tried it with the phone and serveral wireless networks.
So I think it could be a routing issue but I dont have a clue how to see if thats really the problem and if its true how to fix it. I read some other posts and maybe it could also be a tun.ko problem but the SGS2 with 2.3.3 should already have installed it on the software, so I'm not sure how to see if thats ok. The Busybox is installed at /system/xbin. So does anybody have an idea how to find out whats actually the problem and how to fix this?
Thanks for your help!
Manolo
It's not clear to me if you tried connecting through your mobile data plan. Did you also tried that?
What is the IP that you are getting when your are connected to the VPN?
If it something like 192.168.1.* Then that's could be your problem. If the WIFI your are on, also gives you an ip adress as 192.168.1.* then that causes the problem. Either change the ip range of your network to 192.168.10* (just an example) or the ip range of you VPN.
ps can you post your VPN server settings?
Do you mean my own ip or the ip that i have in the vpn?
my own edge telekom ip is 10.219.127.35 and my internal vpn ip is 10.10.0.22
I can't post my vpn server settings because i got some key files for the vpn.
If you have installed installed this .zip
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16182571#post16182571
Then all you need to do is download openvpn settings from the market. And run in.
If you already did these steps, then the problem lies probably with your server and I need the server config. I don't need the keys of course
Thx!
How does this update work? I see no instructions on the post. Is it just to copy on the root folder?
Ah yes... I found how it goes and its working perfectly!
Thx a lot!

no wifi at work

hey people,
here is the issue. i am able to connect to my wifi at home no issue. when i try to connect at work it says connected but i have no access to the internet. the bars are grey with the up and down arrow going crazy but the bars never turn blur. sound like its not authenticating. i noticed when i connect its always trying to connect to the same DHCP IP. i asked the network guys to release the address manually but it does not seem to have helped. any ideas. i do not know much about DHCP so i could be blowing sunshine up your a$$. ; )
i own the i757m so there is only 1 radio to choose from.
talk to your network administrator and ask them to verify if the router is actually seeing your phone.
it maybe trying to connevt but the router is not acknowledging the phone is sending a valid request.

I've had this in situations where free wifi is given out. My phone connects to the router but not the Web until I've registered with the service provider. It's not your phone it must be an error in your log on details, password etc

Maybe their DHCP server is acting up. Try setting your IP address manually (assuming you know the rest of the networking configuration as well).

i also tried that. should have mentioned these things, sorry. its really irritating me. i see its connected and it says its connected. it seems like it connects to the router but the DHCP server will not authenticate if thats makes any sense.

[Q] Virus/Malware: Download Flash Player on Google sites

Hi,
I am on Android 4.0.4 Cyanogen Mod. Recently, whenever I open google.com or any google website, I get this popup that asks me to download Flash Player and redirect me to some website that has a link to download. It basically blocks all the routes to google related websites.
This is exactly the same issue described here: bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/526069/warning-your-flash-player-may-be-out-of-date-redirect-on-both-pc-and-tablet but the solution is basically for a Windows machine.
After this started to happen, I:
1. cleared all applications cache data
2. Installed AVG antivirus and scanned the phone
This does not seem to be a problem with router because there I do not see the problems on computers and phones connected to the same router.
Can someone help me to solve this problem?
Attached is the screenshot.
Thanks
PS: I cannot post a link yet, so I removed the protocol and www prefix.

I have the exact same issue as above. I am on 4.4.2 (CM v. 11-20140405-SNAPSHOT-M5-i9300)
What I observed is, when I am connected to my home wireless, neither the internet browsing works nor the play store. But when I shift to 3G, my play store works but with the browser I still get that flash warning.
I have not got any information from elsewhere how to fix it (on phone).

I think it is a virĂ¼s and your system is effected. Maybe there is easy way to fix that problem but i suggest you to backup your datas and make full wipe (system, data, cache) and install your rom. For me it is definitely solution.
I think I got the problem when another computer connected to the router got the same issue.
Basically, my modem/router was bugged. There is a virus that performs DNS injection. DNS of my network adapter had been changed to 68.168.98.196, which in turn was redirecting all the traffic from my devices to the attacker's website.
So, I called the phone company and got the modem reset. Updated the settings. The problem was fixed.
If you have the same problem,
1. Check the DNS setting in your modem/router. You may need to log into the router gateway like HTTP : / / 192.168.1.1 or something.
2. If it is 68.168.98.196, you will have to reset the router.
3. Note that if you are bugged, you might not log into the router though. So, you cannot see the DNS. Probably, you should probably check in your system. For example, I do this Ubuntu,
Code:
~$ nm-tool | grep DNS
DNS: 192.168.1.1
DNS: 125.22.47.125
DNS: 125.22.47.100
DNS: 8.8.8.8
4. Reset the router. Before you start doing that make sure you have all the information, id and password for your connection provided by the ISP.
Once this is done, you can see Google and sister websites load pretty well.

I think you nailed it down. Indeed my wireless router (which is physically connected to my ISP's modem) had one of the DNS set to 68.168.98.196. I now changed them manually to google DNS servers, had my phone forget the network and added it again. Looks like it is working for me too..
Thanks a lot for posting it! I will update here if I see the issue again or anything else indicating similar issue.
This malware affects routers and not devices
to solve this try to reset your router
