did you just upgrade to 2003se ?
if you did, your sms change to messaging. (accounts - text message)
mate,
what do mean by "gone"? the messages are all gone or you canna send sms messages? if it's the lattter; this may have happened if you made a hard reset or upgraded the rom. you might want to try resending the sms profile to your network. try:
settings>phone>services>click on voice mail and sms>press "get settings">wait for a few seconds>enter your sms service center (this is normally your phone number but add the country code)>enter your voice mail number/carrier> press ok to load> press ok to exit
hope that helps
cheers
Yup,
Had hard resetting issues with mine, and sometimes, after a hard reset, it wouldn't come back. I figured it happened when either simm was not in, or I stopped some of the automatic file from reloading after the hard reset. Basically, back it up, then hard reset it w/ Simm and it will come back.

Hi
Wonder if anyone can help me. I got the xda with its original rom ie 3.16 and radio stack 4.20 and up till now I just can't even compose a sms message let alone sending it. I have the call centre number correct with the settings and I am connected to vodaphone and has received sms messages ok so far which means I am connected alright with the message centre. It must be some software problem that make it unable for me to compose and send sms messages. I have tried tapping on "New" which has no SMS option there but only Email option and I have tried tapping on a contact name and then "Send SMS" but no response. Under Inbox, I tapped on SMS under Services and then "New" and no response again. Just couldn't compose a sms message. :?
Any other ideas please ?
Man if you only knew!
I've been working on the same problem all day and I mean all day. The only thing that fixed it for me was a hard reset followed by a complete re-install of all my programs. As best as I can figure some were down the line my registry got corrupt.
Hi Qman,
Thanks for reply. I thot I may have to do that as well. One question though- I had my xda unlocked using xda manipulator, will I need to do that again when I hard reset my xda?
Cheers
Vic
No on manipulator!
Thanks Qman
Cold boot restored full functionality of my sms service and phone is still nicely unlocked.
Cheers

Hi,
since a couple of days my XDA's SMS function is not working anymore. It will not receive nor send SMS messages.
I have checked the SMS-C number and contacted Telfort. The number is correct and Telfort says "no problem".
Anybody around here with a bright idea?
Francois
Not a particularly bright idea but are you sure that you are composing your txts in the SMS inbox, not the Activesync one?
Just covering the basics
Also note, if you have used software like PocketBackup to restore your data then it corrupts your Inbox folder settings irreparably. A hard reset is needed in this case.
Otherwise it sounds like a problem with your Radio Stack.

No restore
I did a hard reset about a week ago, I'm not sure is this is the time when trouble started.
I have not used a backup to restore the file setting, however I did use the "restore connection settings" from the SD-backup tool.
Think I'm gonna make antother backup tonight and do a hard reset, check if SMS works, then do a restore and see what happens.

its an intermittent issue, but its been happening more and more. soft reset used to fix, but isnt anymore. my threaded SMS aren't showing my sent texts. the texts obviously get to the recipient as i get a response to what i said, but i cant see what i said. kind of annoying. anyone else get this?
EDIT:
yes, 'save sent messages' is checked
I am having a similar issue, but it seems that the sent messages do appear in the threaded SMS, but after a reset (soft) they are gone. It doesn't happen all the time, and I think they only save after I receive a response from whichever party I sms'ed. If I was the last to send a message and I soft reset, my message doesn't save. Not a biggy for me though.
Running DCD 3.2.0

That's standard in WM6.1 when you use the stylus to soft reset. Use psShutXP to soft reset instead of using the stylus and you won't see this issue.
Hi guys
It has happened twice now that my phone has started receiving an MMS prior to every SMS that comes in. The MMS is empty and it comes from "unknown".
The first time a couple of weeks ago, I was on the phone for 14 hours to fix it; re-installed everything on it including flashing SBF's and starting clean. Nothing helped. After a day the issue magically took care of itself.
Now it started again, 4-5 days ago. I have installed everything fresh (SBF to 1.2.6, 1.5.7 OTA & 1.8.3 OTA), did a factory reset & formated both internal & external storage space; issue still there on an absolutely stock phone. Called the helpdesk of my provider as well, they've never heard of the issue before.
On a desperate attempt to fix it I accidentally removed the messaging apk, took a good while to find one again..
Does anyone have any other ideas I can try? Please, it's driving me mad..
Hey guy! Did you forget about your thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1086060&highlight=mms

Thanks for your help. I found it easier to start a less congested thread with all the background summarized. Hope I didn't crush the internet by doing so..
Are you using Handcent or Chomp? Is whatever you are using your "default" message app? I was getting duplicate MMS messages until I went into my actual contact list, selected a contact, then tried to send a message to them, it then prompted me to select my message app. I am using Handcent, so I selected Handcent and put a check mark in use as default. I no longer have the problem. Hope this helps...

Thanks for your reply, I am using Chomp sms and it is the default messaging app. It's not that though, I am receiving an empty MMS 5-10 seconds before every SMS I receive. It was the first thing I tried when I returned to stock as I describe above, issue was there. Immensely frustrating..
Bumping this up, need urgently advise as I'm about to throw the damn thing out the window..
Just spoke with the o2 helpdesk, there's nothing they can see /. They have now shut off my data connection, I have disabled all data and I am still getting that fckng MMS!!!
Update: Solved. Got a new SIM. Or that I asked them to freeze my data connection & the new SIM kick-started it again & removed the issue. Goes to show again the incompetence of (many) helpdesk agents; they insisted it was phone related..
Has anyone else had issues with this app synching with their mail box. It has worked for me for 2 days and then when I receive a voice mail message, I get a mms message sent to me without my message indicator ringing. The message does not show up in my listing.
If I perform a factory reset, everything sychs up and then two days later its back to its old behavior.
Anyone have suggestions on how this can be resolved. I have called sprint support and they are still scratching their heads.
This is a non-rooted phone.
Thanks for any assistance.
