Why is the size of ms_.nbf restricted to about 18Mb? Around here the iMate sold contains localized additions that consumes most of the Ext_ROM.
I cant personalize my Ext_rom to the amount I want
Is is a wince limitation or what :?

You mean the Ext_ROM is chip by itself other than the ROM?
It's a part(ition) of a 32M Diskonchip

Appreciate the help. As a matter of fact, everybit for me is essential for localizing the device :!:
You can extend your ExtROM by using Autoconfig.exe incorporate with Autoconfig.txt

I have recently bought a Qtek 2020 and I have applied the registry hack to make visible the Extended_ROM area.
Now I would like to edit which CABs the system install after an hard reset but, to my surprise , the area appears as read-only (error code 19).
Do have I to make other registry modifications to make the Extended_ROM writable? I am using ROM 1.03.00 USA.
TIA
ROM == Read only memory
you can write or delete rom
but in many cases you can flash it
if you make your own cooked ROM and
update the ppc2003 os of your xda2
Please, study the stuff you don't know before posting obvious things!

but the config.txt is not in rom
so you are not chaning or writing in the rom
you are just chaning which files in the rom
the system access
just got confused about the way you asked the question
RAM/ROM?
Hi I would like to know, is your Qtek 2020 has 128M and 64ROM :?: ??
How much did you buy it and where?
Best regards,
Paf
Hi, Yes to both questions . You can buy it at :http://www.mobilkompagniet.dk/default.asp?Action=Details&Item=1820

What the hell are you saying??? Config.txt is on Extended_ROM like Autorun.exe and various CABs.
I suggest you to read again the article I have linked (http://www.ppcw.net/index.php?itemid=1642) and leave space for replies to people that really own and know the Qtek 2020.

I didn't have a config.txt in MY rom.
Luckily another user (props to him) figured out that if you prefix the names of your cab files with Default_ (default underscore) and make a config.txt they will autoload on hard reset.

You miss the key point of my message: Extended_ROM is read-only in the Qtek 2020. Stop. No way to add any prefix, "Default_" or whatever you want.
Any Qtek 2020 owner out ther that could confirm this? Any XDA-Developers team guy that _know_ how storage disk are mounted by Windows CE and could suggest a (registry?) trick?
Thanks, byez
he is right with saying:
I do have the same issue:
"You miss the key point of my message: Extended_ROM is read-only in the Qtek 2020. Stop. No way to add any prefix, "Default_" or whatever you want. "
same here. read only can't delete or add anything.
alex
It seems my XDA2 has this problem too (but some other XDA2 don't have this problem
I have an O2 XDAII and cannot modify anything in Extended_Rom too
HI,
Anyone that have fix same workaround for this problem?
I have Qtek 2020 . I´m unabel to make changes in the Extended_Rom

Hi guys; i also would be interested in such a fix for my french rom Qtek2020.
Thanking you all in advance, i remain, Arnaud
After upgrade to 1.60 - after hard reset just before the customizations start to run (you got 3 seconds time) soft reset the device. Make the ExtROM viewable and delete the line "EXEC:\Extended_ROM\TPEnable.exe" from "Config". That´s it - the ROM stays read/write.
Enjoy and have fun...
Siegi
PS: nice try from T-M*bile to spoil our fun - but too easy to hack!
cool
thanks
Othman
Strange. TPEnable.exe and TPDisable.exe stand for Touch Panel Enable and Touch Panel Disable. And that's exactly what it does....... then, can someone explain to me what this would have to do with the read-only status of the T-Mobile Extended Rom??????
this does not seem to work for me - 1.52 qtek rom.

Hm, where do I find this line. It's neither in my AUTOCONFIG.TXT nor in my CONFIG.TXT of my Australian XDA II version - still, the Extended ROM is read-only...
olivier: making it visible is not the same as un-writeprotecting it.
farnold: I don't think the tpenable/disable has anything to do with the write protect, so it is possible that it is not in your rom. if it is used, you will find it in '\Extended_ROM\config.txt'

Thanks, mate. I thought the same thing. The question though remains how do I remove the write protection? Is that also a REGISTRY hack or does it require more than that?

Hi,
As I'm a curious electronics engineer type, I have a few questions regarding the IPL, SPL and CE kernel.
1. Am I correct in thinking that the IPL simply loads the SPL into RAM and starts executing it?
2. Is the SPL providing the low level flashing interface and the setup code necessary to load the kernel into RAM? Does it provide any low level interfaces for the CE kernel?
3. I note that the OS portion of my flash has three partitions, what are the first two small ones for?
I've had a search on the net and I can't find many detailed answers to these questions so I thought I'd ask them here. Any help is greatly appreciated.

The first two contain the OS core in XIP format (although they still need to be copied to RAM before execution). One is the kernel for normal operation, the other is used when Windows Update flashes the ROM (it'll not overwrite anything, just add to the existing data). They can be dumped from a ROM upgrade file and edited with RomMaster and dumprom.
The third partition is an IMGFS file system. It contains all the other files needed to make your device work. It can be dumped from a ROM upgrade file and edited with the Imgfs Tools.
There is actually a forth partition in the partition table - the Storage area. This is a FAT partition. It is only in the partition table, but there is no additional data in the ROM packages. During a hard boot, the OS will format that partition.
Cheers
Daniel
Thanks for the reply. I didn't think that the CE kernel was loaded during the flashing process, I thought the SPL provided the flash interface?
Out of curiosity if am I correct in thinking that the only way to brick the device is to damage the IPL/SPL or bugger up the radio ROM so that the SPL can't return a CID. If the actual OS portion of the flash contains bad blocks will this still prevent future flashing?

Not "only", it initializes the hardware (processor, sdram, etc...), setups the physical to virtual mapping table, reads SPL from NAND puts it into RAM and jumps into its address.
If you want it more in depth, disassemble the IPL.nb file with IDA Pro. Code entry point at 0x0000000. And consult the SC32442A processor manual while following its flow.

Yes.
Again, IDA Pro is your friend In hermes the SPL expects to be executed from virtual address 0x8c080000 which is physical 0x30080000.

Yes, you are correct. It is also possible that NAND blocks are marked as bad when incorrectly flashing service byte 517th, read more on Des comment here.

Depending on how many bad blocks. I've seen a hermes die completely during the 2nd flash on a NAND with a lot of marked bad blocks.
Okay, I think I understand. So once the 517th byte of a flash block it set to non 0xFF it's permanent and can't be restored? The next flash won't be able to write to that block? Hmmh, dangerous!
Now all I need to do is find the £300+ quid for an IDA pro license. I'd better get back to what I'm supposed to be doing, time to put my RF hat back on
Yes, that's right. We haven't found a method to restore yet, but sure it is possible to do it because the marked bad blocks are not real bad blocks.... probably the way to go is patching a SPL which will never flash service data bytes from data taken of a file. Des and Olipro know more on this matter, you should ask them if you really want to get involved on some development
BTW, you can use the IDA Demo version available for free download if you don't want to spend the money just for disassembling IPL & SPL.
And there are other free alternatives, I sometimes use radare which is very helpful too, but you should have a *nix system.
Hi guys
I have O2 XDA Atom.
I have Install atom_hiddenpartition.cab to unlock 16MB on flash rom and delete files than on that.
when I hard reset my ppc that speed has down (1/4 my previous speed) in boot windows and programs on windows.
I want to unlock Hidden Partition but I can't do this.
Can you help me to unlock Hidden Partition and recover my files on this?
(my rom is 20060426B1WWE and files in hidden partition is Informobility Arabic and Hijri Calender, Camera's templates,...)
sorry for bad english.
bro u can refer to this link. it might help u. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=267305
GAH. Do NOT delete the stuff in there. Trust me. I don't care if you need space. DO NOT TOUCH THE FILES IN HIDDEN STORAGE.
It's your ExtROM, and all links to it are hardcoded. This isn't like the Magician Bigstorage, where the links are recoded; Your PPC is tons slower because it's trying to find stuff that doesn't exist anymore. Like, say, your configs.
If you want those back, you have to reflash your device. No choice.

Reflash!?
that mean download the 20060426B1WWE ROM from seeo2.com and setup (install) this on my device?
Yeah, that's the only way to solve the problem - even uninstalling that reveal hidden partition hack doesn't work all the time. I should know, I went through a device with an extROM that mysteriously disappears if I ever tinker around with the hidden partition too much.
After install atom_hiddenpartition.cab , I do not anything in that. But , i see that the system lost about 2MB RAM (i don't know for what!). How to hide this partition again and bring back my 2MB RAM ?!

hmm
try this using any registry editor:
HKLM\System\StorageManager\Profiles\TRUEFFS_DOC2\F ATFS and change the MountHidden value to 1
We already have an ExtROM unhider, what we need is an ExtROM unlocker.
Can someone please develop this
Enables the Ext Rom visible
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Profiles\EXT_FLASHDRV]
"MountHidden"=dword:00000000
Exit and Reboot after changes and ur done
it lets u view it but i cant figure out how 2 make changes yet. its still locked.
I believe he stated he already had the extrom unhidden.... now he needs it unlocked....
I haven't been successful at unlocking the extrom either....
An unlocker does exist for the Titan...
Check this thread:
http://www.ppcgeeks.com/external-rom-unlocker-unhider-get-it-here-t5845,highlight,extrom.html
as i said
as i said.... at this time there is no way to unlock the ext_rom on the titan. I'm sure it's possible, it's just a matter of time before it's figured out....
by the way, your ppcgeeks thread with the "unlocker" doesn't work. Try reading more than just the original post.
I believe Paul Hammons is working on one. He is finishing up the Dialer, then will be working on the unlocker. He said he is close to testing it
Mogul Extrom Junkware
/here's one possible work-around, You'll need one of the extrom unhiders (actually possibly not needed) and aegistry editor. There is an autorun file in the extrom, whose parameters are in config.txt (also in extrom). The autorun is called in:
HKLM\Comm\AutoRun
and the config file in:
HKLM\Comm\AutoRunCFG
If you just want to stop the whole extrom contents just delete the entry on the first item.
Or you could edit the config file to what you want, copy it to the windows folder, and then point the HKLM\Comm\AutoRunCFG to the new config file.
As always. hack at your own risk.
Rob
The extrom is only loaded after a hard reset though and a registry change will be erased at that point. There is also no way to create a custom rom yet for the Titan. So there is no way to have those entries set after a hard reset. The way to avoid extrom installs is to soft reset just before they load after a hard reset. There are other advantages to an unlocker however.

That's what I did when I did my last hard reset last weekend. Now I don't have all the Sprint junk on my phone.
How much extra space can you unlock? (when someone figures out how to unlock it anyway)
It should be a decent amount but I don't load anything on internal memory, I have a 2GB SD card. I'm waiting for a ROM cooker but not until after Sprint releases the EV-DO A upgrade.

the extended rom is only 8mb in available size anyways. The current items in the extrom take up a around 1.5 mb anyways. It's not a "decent" amount like the previous member stated.....
"The previous poster" thinks that 8MB is a decent amount.
Did anyone get the unlocker for the HTC 6800 Extended ROM.......
The titan.cab wrks great on the unhidder but i still cant modify anything.
