I was just wondering how one would make a RAW dump of a SD card and then later write back, Like a ISO from a disc for example.
The reason is because I want to backup my HD2 Android card but there is various files I can not seem to find/access via windows, Ive set all folder options to show hidden/system files etc but still cant, so wanted to dump the entire SD card so I can try another build of android out as one of my 8GB cards is for windows other currently has the EvoLeo rom on which is working well but the only other card I have over 1GB doesn't work when trying to boot android.

You could just rename the current Android folder you have on your SD Card to something else, and place the new Android ROM folder on the root of your SD card. If you don't like the new ROM then just delete the Android folder and rename the old one back to Android ^_^
That's what I've done, I have the Nexus One build in a different folder but I kept it on my SD card. The build that's in my 'Android' folder is a HTC Desire build
This might have been asked before but I have some specific questions I need to ask.
I bought a bigger sd card for my vibrant. What do I need to do before and after mounting the new sd card so that I dont loose any data that is on my previous sd card.
I found these instructions in another thread. Wondering if its safe to follow these and if I need to do anything else.
1. Using usb cable connect your phone to a pc as a hard-drive. Copy all the files on the phone into a folder on the pc.
2. On your phone, go to settings > SD & Phone storage > Unmount SD card
Turn off your phone, open up the back remove battery and SD card.
3. Insert new card, replace battery and cover. Turn phone back on.
Settings> SD & Phone Storage > Format SD Card
4. Once formatted then copy and paste all the files on your pc back into your phone.
Other questions I have:
How do I make sure I dont loose my nandroid backups and titanium backups?
Also, How can I make sure camera/gallery saves all of the newly taken photos and videos to the new sd card?
You could just turn the phone off completely and switch out the cards.
- As to nandroids and TB they default to the internal SD so they should still be there unless you move them urself.
- For new pics and videos. In the camera app change the settings to save to SDcard its default set to phone Good luck!
^^Agreed.
Everything that apps store on your phone defaults to your internal SD card. So unless you manually moved stuff to your external MicroSD, there probably isn't very much on there, except maybe the avatar movie if you still have the original 2gb external card that came with the phone.
But seeing as you're upgrading your external SD card and will be at a computer, I suggest making a backup of everything on your internal SD card too, just for safe keeping. I have a backup of both my internal and external SD cards on my computer, and every once in a while I copy over any new files just to keep an updated record. It gives me peace of mind knowing that I'm ready for any unexpected SD corruptions. I think it's a good habit to get into.
Good Luck!
^^Agreed^^
Backing up to PC is always a good idea. I backup my nandroids and TB's as well. I also hide them on my friends and families PC'sshhh, they'll never know.
Howdy,
I searched but couldn't find the answer. I have a 32 gb sd card which I inserted, formatted and mounted into my phone. I can copy and paste files from the phone storage and files to it, and vice versa, but when I backup and restore using clockwork mod, it never gives me a choice to backup to external sd card, or to restore from external sd card.
I've tried everything, but can't get clockwork mod to recognize the external sd card. Any suggestions?
Also, if I try to install a zip file from SD card, Clockwork mod does see the card and the files on it, but it just won't list it as a choice to restore from or to backup to.
AFter a bit thinking about it, I guess my question is whether I can backup and restore directly to and from external sd card, or whether I backup and restore to internal card, and then just copy the file to and from my sd card using file manager or explorer?
backup and restore should by default go to external sd. Which version of cwm do you have?

Yep, thats how it is on mine too
I've got 5.5.0.4..
Hi, I've installed CM7 on my SD card so that when I switch on my NT16 with the SD card it boots to CM7 and Android 3.7.3. I've extended the 4th partition on the SD card to make use of the card's full capacity but I can't seem to put any files onto this partition.
When I explore the SD card it just shows less than 200MB. When I connect the NT16 with the SD card to my laptop it shows two removable disks but when I click either it says to insert a removable disk.
Any ideas as to how I can put files onto my SD card?
Gotta put it into USB mode.
Only way I know how on my 8GB NT is to:
1) Boot from the CM7 SD card.
2) Once running CM7, connect cable to PC.
3) Android bot will appear on screen with a button that you can click to get it into USB mode.
4) Only after you click will both drives (internal and SD card) appear on the PC.
i tried the sdcard way for roms but i just can't wrap my head around how to get to the fourth partition while using the rom. if u browse to it using a file explorer like root explorer it will only display the rom partition rather than the user data partition.
so the question is: how to get the user data partition to show while using the rom...
Thank you!

Just plug your phone into your pc, copy everything over, format the new card and copy everything back.
