XDA IIi & IIs £179.99 on £17 36MB GPRS Contract - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 ROM Development

I was a little surprised and initially couldn't beleive what the salesman was saying, but basically you can purchase either XDA IIs or IIi for £179.99 on any monthly contract both voice aand data. The cheapest voice being £16 and a 36Mb GPRS bundle for £17.04.
Forgot to say this is from an o2 shop, similar prices are available online but the data tarrif is not available, and the cheapest voice being £19.
If you phone o2 you will be charged £279+

Yes that is the deal I was offered earlier this month and took -- although I opted for a higher level voice contract for various reasons.
I don't know if it still on but when I took out the contract they were also offering double minutes and double texts for the first six months as well!

Yup...it's also the SAME price whether you're upgrading from the XDA2 or not, whether you're an existing customer on staff accounts or not!
I'm just glad I don't actually work for o2 but still have a staff account...otherwise I'd be pretty fumed by that. Oh wait, no I am anyway.
Anthony

My XDAIIs was £179.99 on the Data 5 tariff - which is £8 per month for 5mb inclusive GPRS data.
This was as an upgrade from O2 direct, staying on the same original tariff - the Data 5 one ..

I live in italy,i don't need the monthly contract,is there any way i can buy an XDA2i ?

I want to buy and XDA2i,but have some hard time to understand O2 tariffs:
-Do I need to choose a monthly tariff to buy a XDA2i?
-I live in Italy, how can I use O2 service? (in case I cant,i don't see big problems, but need the device!)
-When I choose a tariff, what is the minimal time I must stay with O2 company?
-If I will change Operator,Tariff,etc.. Do I need to return the xda2i back?
Thnk you..

Doh sorry for got to quote i got this tariff and XDA2s last month when i could not find a pda2k any cheaper than £509 instead it works out around £380 and then i unlocked it the next day from the O2 unlatching boys... still saved myself a few quid though.

i just orderd my first xda the 2i today, hence the new reg(i have been lerking for a while)
i got it for £109 because i was going to cancel my contract to get it cheaper so o2 offerd me a much much cheaper price
dam those slow 3-5 working days, i want my xda

Yuup! Could you buy me one too..this is so cheap!

Wow! I really envy you guys that are staying in Europe as the price for the XDA IIi & s are so cheap. Right here in Asia, we are paying through our nose even if it is bundle with contract, guess that is where O2 made their money from.

What is the cheapest place to buy an O2 XDA?

Hi,
Does anyone know a good place to buy a cheap O2 XDA?
Some people claim it can be bought (with no subscription) around 500 Euro's.
I was unable to find a place where I can buy them for that price.
A shop around Amsterdam would be nice, but online ordering is no problem too ...
Thanx ....
Try eBay.com
Thanks for the reply
Good thinking, but we can't buy them from e-bay.
We need more then one, all with receipt.
And I think the risk of not getting the devices, or
(slightly) broken/buggy models is too big.
try O2 shop in Holland if they have them
in the UK they are selling reconditioned 32mb XDA's for 99 GBP with contract (can be data only), missing a few bits - headphones and software, but you can get these separate anyway.
I just cancelled my O2 data contract and bought another XDA with standalone data contract with PAYG voice.
Regards
Tim
Whereabouts are they selling them for £99 Tim?
buy XDA
Try: http://shop.brando.com.hk/
I just bought one from them excellent service ,
I sent them money via Paypal and the device was FedEx to me the day after.
Asa.

You mean UK O2 shops are selling reconditioned XDA for 99 GBP ?
It's unbelievable.
yes 99GBP - I bought mine yesterday from O2 shop in Bluewater, (01322 623860) but I guess any of the larger O2 shops will do them - I didn't check the O2 shop in Lakeside which is smaller.
It had no headphones, leather case or software.
The headphones you can get for £20 GBP
Those horrible cases you can get for £20 GBP (or a decent one off ebay for $30)
and I have the software anyway - and would imagine you could obtain easily from this forum anyway.
It had the USB cradle, power plug - uk & european pins, little serial power adaptor, stylus x 2. The xda was in near perfect condition , only the label on the back was slightly lifted, where i guess the technicans have changed something. Maybe others will be different.
If you already have a 12 month voice contact, the data part is probably only 3 months. So i cancelled my data contract and will give the sim to someone and took out a new data contract (12 months if data only) with PAYG phone since i rarely use the phone (which most sales reps won't tell you - and the data contract works out £10 a month less for me anyway.
and now i just have to decide which XDA I keep, and sell the other one.
Regards
Tim
O2 is still selling these refurbished PDA for 99£ in all their stores I've seen in London.
I am worried about the absence of software.
What software usually comes, but is absent on the refurbished XDA?
Is it software to install on your PC/Laptop or is it softawre for the XDA?
Thanks

WOW 99 pounds I want one but without service - Possible ?
99 pounds WOW
I am really interested in finding out this software missing part .....
1- Please, let me know. If this software can be downloaded from somewhere around here then I would contact them immediately to buy one.
I don't need any service I just need the device. Is that possible ? is this price for the device only without any service ?
2- Is this tri-band !!
Thanks a million guys. This is a great piece of information.
Can't find anything for 99 GBP at http://shop.brando.com.hk/
I just went to their website but couldn't find any thing for 99 !!
so I emailed them [email protected] to ask.
GONE
No more. All gone.
Can some 1 in UK tell us how much will it cost to buy one in UK with the plan? I don't need the plan but it seems that this is the only way to get1, right?
There's nothing on their website but go ask in their shop
I've bought mine a month ago now for 99 pounds in London, in Hammermith Kings Mall, but the two shops on Oxford Street also had them for 99 pounds.
I admit I haven't checked since then, but when I asked last month they said this wasn't a temporary offer and it would go on.
They don't actually advertise them anymore, but just ask for the "REFURBISHED" XDA in the store!
As far as I can tell the "missing software" is the 2nd CD-ROM provided by Microsoft which contains Microsoft Activesync (and probably other free Microsoft software) which you can download for free from the microsoft website. http://www.microsoft.com/mobile/pocketpc/downloads/activesync35.asp
(version 3.6 is also available, but other users on this forum suggest you do not use it (yet))
It did come with the O2 CD-ROM
It did not come with the headphones, no replacement stylus, no leather case
It is NOT tri-Band
confusing response from O2
I went to the shop in Hammersmith this morning, they said they still carry the promotion but have no XDA "in stock" (read: none that have been brought back to O2 for "refurbishing") but when they will get some you'll still be able to buy them for 99£.
HOWEVER, i also called one of the shop in Oxford Street and they said they stopped selling them a "long time ago".
Sorry for the confusion, hope this helps.

I asked in the second O2 shop on Oxford Street, the one closest to tottenham court road ( Yes I know, I always go to the same places, ...)
They said the same thing:
- ...We don't have them any more
- But wil you continue the promotion if you get some more in stock?
- Yes...
He didn't say whether they were actually expecting to get any new ones in stock
I am not sure but...
somehow I get the feeling that the ease of unlocking has led O2 to change the strategy in selling these thingies.
On the other hand.....I just lost an online battle of command and conquer Generals. So there go my strategy skills

hi, i bought a xda unconnected from dixons for only £399
if you go into any dixons store, they will do a search for you across stores in the region, you must quote unconnected. (ex-display)
It would probably be cheaper to buy one on contact and throw the sim card.
12 months @ £15 per month = £180 + the cost of a phone.
If anyone does throw the SIM card, can I have it?

Cheapest UK Hero contract?

Hi all,
The contracts of Hero seems rather expensive (£600+ over 18 months) for a phone that is worth £350-ish PAYG.
Unless I am mistaken? Please post the best deals you can find!
Thanks.
I paid ...
£97 for the phone, and a further ...
£30 a month for 600 mins calls, unlimited txts, unlimited internet (which translates to a fair usage policy of 500mb/month)
All on Orange Dolphin 30, 24 months contract
Probably way over-priced, but I was desperate and just walked into the Orange shop.
You can get it from t-mobile on an 18 month contract for 35 quid a month. phone is 'free' and you get cool black one (best colour IMO).
you get unlimited internet (which is actually unlimited) compared to most other carriers who will offer 500mb on a fair use policy. can't remember the calls and text allowance but its more then enough.
I believe it's 3GB actually with T-Mobile, which is A LOT more than the other networks here in the UK (as far as I know).
T-mobile is probably the best, but is still a lot of money. Their fair-use limit is 3Gb, Vodaphone and O2 is only 500mb which is stupid. O2 don't carry the Hero, but their iphones do come with true unlimited internet (but don't allow streaming video or audio, VoIP or tethering.)
If you want to save money, try www.moneysavingexpert.com and click through to their page on saving money on mobile phone contracts. It has links to the best serch engines for this kind of thing.

O2 isn't 500mb. They don't have a limit and i've never heard of anyone being contacted by them for downloading too much. I've downloaded 600mb+ for the last 2 months with o2 and had no problems.
I've had some massive usage months on O2 also and never heard a peep about it. The whole O2 internet experience is generally pretty good. None of the port blocking or (un)fair usage crap.
I was going to go with www.mobiles.co.uk - v good deals - but stuck with my Vodafone upgrade because I have more faith in their hardware, support and signal. That's worth an extra few quid to me.
Have friends who take out contracts with various third parties and have all sorts of problem. Not worth the hassle for the sake of saving a few squids.

I pay £35 a month for my FlexT 35 contract, and my Hero was free. I was out of contract on FlexT before, but I was paying an additional £7.50 a month for web n'walk, and I now get the free G1/G2 data plan so in essence it is cheaper for me now.
Regards,
Dave
Ive got my hero on vodaphone, £25 a month, 500mb internet, 500 texts and 100 minutes. Phone cost 70. Bought at carphone warehouse, Its an alright deal, would like to be on t mobile for more internet, but no signal for them where i live...

well £600 for 18 months is not bad at all had set free unlimted high speed data. The had set will set you back around £400 and no support from net works usually then theres the bloody hellish cost of data and calls on pay as you go so the t-mobile contract is about the best out there. And service from them is nearly allways amazing
I got mine on Orange Racoon 40 Websave over 12 months
Its just over £40 per month, including Internet, phone cost about £50, but I used QuidCo to get £50 cashback.

same - 12 months £32/month + £5 for internet. £50 phone but £50 cashback. Winner and I can upgrade change in 12 months.
I got mine from www.buymobilephones.net. which is one of mobile news awards commended online retailers.
My tarrif is on t-mobile 18-months with 700 mins, unlimited texts, 3GB data allowance and the phone was free.
I am paying £34.25 directly to t-mobile but have got 11 months half price line rental which is equivalent to £188 cashback. This is made through redemptions throughout the length of the contract which is similar to what carphonewarehouse used to do.

I had scoured the internet for HTC Hero and T-Mobile G2 Touch contracts as I badly wanted this phone and found no better deal than this.
EDIT: 3 Months free insurance as well.
Haha burgess_boy you post sounds like an advert But thanks! This is the sort of deals I am looking for. I used Buymobilephones a few years ago so I haven't got a problem using them again. Theres £20 on Quidco as well... nice.
@locutus-of-borg - The reason I think the Hero on contract is expensive is because I have had a lot of WinMo phones of similar value to the Hero, yet the contracts (inc internet) were cheaper - usually £25 for 18 months.

I posted this to HUKD:

Works out at £350 for the 12 months, assuming the £50 QuidCo kicks in (mine tracked pretty quickly). However, you'd need to buy Orange Internet @£7.50 / month, too.

[Q] Which recommended site for buying/shipping to Canada?

Hi
So I see a few threads containing info on shipping to other countries, and very limited with specific info with regards to Canadian interests. I am in the Toronto area of Ontario, Canada.
Questions:
1. Can the UK version work without issues with the Rogers network? Based on what other folks are saying it seems like it should be able to.
2. Who would be the best online reseller to go through to get an unlocked sim version to be shipped to Canada? What would be the best shipping option, assuming several options are available? Would buying through a US online retailer make sense?
3. Warranty? Should something go wrong, what are my options? Would Samsung only look at it if the unit is sent back to the UK for warranty? Can I buy extended warranty of some sort?
4. Costs? What's the general cost for unit, shipping and other taxes as I know we can't get the 'gift' label scenario going.
5. Any other info worth mentioning?
SGSII and Canada

1. In theory the phone should work on Bell Mobility, Telus, and Rogers 3g network (850 MHz and 1900 MHz) as the SGSII has HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100.
2. Clove.co.uk, Handtec.co.uk, mobilecityonline.com (US), etc..
3. Warranty is Samsung only, so you have to send it back to samsung in uk. In terms of extended warranty there are third party options like SquareTrade.
4. Its around $700 CAD (clove and handtec), $730 US for mobilecityonline. Both are with shipping costs. However, the kicker is the import fees. You have to pay taxes (13% HST) on the original price of the phone when the phone arrives in Canada. so you will end up paying something around $800 CAD in total.
Edit: It is confirmed that you will be charged tax (region specific, 13%HST in Ontario). No brokerage fees, apparently FexEx Express doesn't charge any fess for clearing customs. So no import fees other than the tax.
5. There is an option with imports where if the product is a gift worth less than $60 then there is no import fees charged. However, all three retailers listed above have refused to declare the product as a gift or worth lower than actual price.
At this point it seems like it might be a smart idea to wait but then again you never know how much the phone will cost when it arrives in Canada. The atrix is selling for $600 without contract so Im guessing SGSII will cost more.
I am going nuts trying to decide if I should preorder or not. As you can tell Im with Windmobile and today they announced new voice and data plans. Basically, now I am paying $35 for unlimited everything including data and voice. Now, if I buy the SGSII then I will have to move to Bell, Rogers, or Telus and I will have to pay atleast $50 for a smartphone plan. I keep asking myself, is the SGSII worth paying $800, changing your carrier, and paying more every month on your phone plan?
Hope this helps.
I'm in Richmond Hill myself : )
I had pre -order from clove and handtec (both UK companies) but cancelled from handtec even though it was cheaper... they were changing dates way too much and doing it quietly too as in on their website only while Clove would send me emails every few days with any updates regarding my order and the phone itself AND if there's any changes at all they always ask if I want to cancel my order or not. That's worth the extra 15 pounds to me.
As for buying through US retailer, well... you can't cause this phone isn't out in US either. You are correct as it will work with AT&T in US and in Canada it'll work on Rogers/Telus/Bell/Fido/Virgin/Koodoo (all the subsidiaries of the big companies). it'll work on other bands too like wind mobile and such I think however, no 3G coverage there because of the band difference. Cost wise its around $750 incl. shipping.
If i were you i'd be in a very tough situation as well haha. But... I get the exact same plan for the same price (a little less actually) through rogers minus the unlimited Data. i have 500 mb and i never seem to go over 150 in a month so thats never close to being an issue. plan inclues unlimited text / voicemail / evenings starting at 5pm and unlimited evenings and weekends too.

So you are saying that you get 500mb Data, unlimited text / voicemail / evenings starting at 5pm and unlimited evenings and weekends for around $35?
wow thats news to me, I actually dont mind 500mb data but I was under the impression that the minimum that you have to pay is $50 for smartphone plans with rogers. Please elaborate more on how much you actually pay.
If what you say is possible then that eliminates one of my worries. I dont mind changing carriers as rogers has better signal than wind. As far as the money for the actual phone, I can sell my current phone that will help me out.
well if i was to go with rogers' regular price for the closest plan its about $85 maybe a month. but even with that cant get 5pm evenings (earliest they have is 6pm) also for some of this they require you to activate a 3 year plan.
I get special rates from rogers thats why i end up paying under half the regular price which is why... im happy with them and didnt bother going to wind or any others
edit: also a few other things i get... enchaned text messaging and enhanced voicemail (whatever those are) and also super caller id.. whatever that is
I'd love to get this phone in Canada but I'd also hate to give up Wind... and waiting for an AWS version will probably take forever.
Just can't find a plan that comes even close to $40/mo unlimited EVERYTHING (even US calling which I use a lot) =(
youre not going to find one and also just so you know Wind Mobile I believe works on the same band as T mobile USA, i have the vibrant from T mobile and it works on wind.. 3g and everything. other than that if you dont need super fast internet access this will still work with Wind on Edge i believe.
$800 is really steep for a phone... but this one makes my mouth water. It probably won't be coming onto any of the big three until Q2-Q3. That's a lot of waiting... Yeah screw it I'm going to preorder this bad boy.

I'll probably end up pre-ordering as soon as I get payment for the phone I'm selling. I'm really afraid of the import charges, we know about the duties and HST but I heard that FedEx charges handling fees (Brokerage and Disbursement) so I think I'll end up paying even more than $800.
Hola
I will be going ahead and ordering my S2 via Handtech hopefully sometime tomorrow (Tuesday). I'll be watching this forum closely to ensure those folks who ordered in the UK received their phones without issue/delay.
One other question:
Who should I use for shipping and handling? FedEx, UPS or DHL?
Thanks.
I live in SWO. Pre-ordered from Clove yesterday. Then Handtec posted the fact that they actually have stock. I'm expecting that it may take 1-2 weeks before I actually have it in my hands, so a day or two difference isn't going to kill me (though the anticipation anxiety hasn't kicked into overdrive yet Just hoping I don't have to wait for a 2nd batch to arrive before my order gets fulfilled!
Also looking forward to the first person that confirms 3G on Rogers with an actual handset! :-D
i ordered mine from gum. Should ship tomorrow ups express.
I cound't help it... I ordered from clove too. hope I still make the first shipment. don't wanna wait too long, the anticipation is crazy!!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
I see everyone is talking about ordering from Handtec / Clove..but has anyone tried Expansys?
Expansys charges 5% premium but does anyone know if they suffer from the same duty/import charges as Handtec / Clove?

That 5% turns into 7.5% at checkout page. Strange, what kind of "tax" is this?

When I added the Galaxy S II into the cart on Expansys.ca website...it shows this:
$709.51
* Tax 5%35.48
* Shipping Information 24.95
* CDN $769.94
So the 709.51 is basically 430 GBP (price from Clove/Handtec) converted to CAD...then Expansys adds a ~5% premium on top.
If you go back to the beginning of the thread, np231 says there may be import fees in addition to handling charges from FedEx/UPS etc. That's why I want to know if anyone had experience with Expansys and how much more I should expect to pay at the end of the day...
Wind doesn't have an EDGE network so I don't see how it would work at all on wind. They only have a 3G 1700/2100mhz network so basically you can only use this phone on the big 3 with their ****ty plans. Not sure how long it will be before a T-mobile variant of the SGS2 will hit the US, only then could it be possible for Wind users to get it.

youre not going to find one and also just so you know
Wind Mobile I believe works on the same band as T mobile USA, i have the vibrant from T mobile and it works on wind.. 3g and everything. other than that if you dont need super fast internet access this will still work with Wind on Edge i believe.

I'll let you all know just how badly I get bilked by Fedex/Canada Customs. My SGS II has shipped from Handtec and apparently due tomorrow in the Great White North via Fedex (though NOT holding my breath!). I'll be happy if it arrives by Friday (travelling next week and would love to have it!).
I generally only order from the US via USPS to avoid the brokerage/customs nightmare (rape!). In this case obviously not yet an option.
Considering you are in Montreal....I won't be surprised if you are slapped with the 13% GST+QST.
Glad I'm in Alberta
But yes, please keep us updated regarding import duties / handling charges.

[Q] Who got the Best Deal?

Hi!
This isn't really an important thread, but will be interesting to find out the kind of deals out there (especially for those potential XS purchasers!!)
Did any of you guys sign up on a new contract or Upgrade?
What kind of deal did you get?
Network : O2
Duration of Contract : 24 Month Contract
Line Rental : £15.50 a month (+ £3 Data bundle)
Price of Phone : Free
The deal disappeared the day after I signed up, so might have been a mistake, but I'm getting my phone tomorrow
Just purchased the phone without plan or whatever. You always have to pay the full phone price, carriers in Belgium don't do phone/plan combos.
€427 for the phone.
Network: Orange UK
Duration of Contract: 24 Month Contract
Line Rental: £28.50 a month
Minutes: 600
Texts: 3000
Internet: 1GB
Price of Phone: FREE
For brand new good phone, prices are very good, I would say. Some network carriers they still want 23-25 quid for a year old Samsung Galaxy S II.
Network: T-Mobile Netherlands
Duration: 2 years
Costs: 34.95/mo and first 6 months 50% off
Phone price: I paid around 30 for the phone, because I didn't want the extra that made it free, but there was a free option for like an extra 6 a month or so.
Internet: 500MB (I don't really care about this, with the amount of Wifi connections around..)
Extras: Sony Wireless Headset Pro

OMG...!
I paid 503 at the T-mobile shop, I could have bought it on the internet for 437, but that would have been the black one... And T-mo is the only one where it comes in white in the Netherlands (for the next for weeks) LOL
Handtec.co.uk had some nice prices, as I was importing Xperia S I've paid £354.99 on Phone + 4 Smart Tags + Case. No HDMI cable on this one, though. Still can't say if there are those Screen Protectors on it.
But, the cheapest place I could find was FNAC Portugal (fnac.pt).
They have the phone for €399.80, sim-free (unlocked) - Black one. White one is going for €390,24.
I can't really tell why this happens after finishing your purchase - remember, you have to login to finish the purchase, but the price of €479,99 gets to €390,24.
I couldnt finish my order with FNAC, that's why I bought with Handtec (Google Wallet would let me finish my order with them, FNAC does not accept Paypal nor GW).
Hope this helps.
cheapest
i definitely got the best deal
be prepared to get jealous:
have got a one year contract at KPN1500 minutes/messages and 2000mb internet which has a discount tariff of 25 instead of 150 euros for the first three months. After these first months i can adjust it to the lowest contract of KPN100 minutes and 100mb for 30 euro's. I add 250mb to this amount by paying 5 euros if i need it. Furthermore i have to pay 50 euros at the beginning which makes the total amount i have to 50+25*3+9*35=440 this is for both the phone and the contcract So to all the dutch, i would advise you to do the same if you are not in need of many minutes
I got a great deal from Phone 4U. Only a 12 month contract which you hardly ever see now!
£31 per month and the phone was £55
I will have to pay £70 to end my existing contract early and port my number though.

Right now in fnac.pt Black is out of stock and doesn't show any discount and White is 2-4 weeks for delivery with that nice price, not sure if they ship outside of EU because with that ETA I didn't tried to purchase. Handtec is supposed to start shipping tomorrow, or at least I was told so by chat minutes ago, so I guess I'll wait for it.
I was just aiming to get the phone cheap.
o2, 24 month contract.
£79.99 for phone
£10.50 contract + £3 data (which I will remove right away)
£111.10 cashback from topcashback
grand total after cashback £220.89
from a post in hotukdeals
I got my White Xperia S for HK$4699 which is around GDP$387
with one year contract HK$68 = HK$816 (GDP$67)
and my mum traded-in her G2S and get a white Xperia S, she paid HK$1299 (GDP$109) without contract.

Instead of buying a prepaid SIM, consider getting VZ global plan $25 for 100MB. I will be travelling to Europe in July, few countries, and this is by far the cheapest option.
You can get a pre-paid SIM for like $30 and have a better plan and better service, when I was in Australia the signal sucked so I got a pre-paid SIM with 1500 minutes, 400mb data, unlimited texts, and unlimited data for social networks. Better deal than the Verizon plan.

Uhhh... what? You can get much better pre-paid SIM's for $25. 100MB will allow you to update a few apps, upload a few pictures, and navigate for a day. That $25 also doesn't include voice and SMS fees.

Tell me where in Italy or France I can get anything cheaper. In France there is couple day waiting period.
I don't know about France, but in Germany, for 25 Euro, I got a prepaid SIM with 300MB data and a 10 euro credit for international calls at 0.09 euro per minute. SMS are 0.09 each (a bit expensive), but local calls (in germany) were included in the price of the SIM. I think there was a different pricing structure you could choose at 1 euro per day for unlimited data, charged each day that you use data but my german language skills are quite shaky, so I may have misunderstood. T-Mobile DE was/is the carrier.
