I'm having problem with Registry. After each soft-reset my changes to registry are restored from "Documents & Settings\system.hv"
What to do?
I tried putting "0" value to ObjectStore and soft-resetted using SOFTware tool but got nothing except for the value changed but the rest of the registry keeps restoring...

For safety reasons, if I upgrade my XDA II with the WM2005 ROM, can I downgrade it back to WM2003SE? If this can, does it require some special way?
Secondly, I tried upgrading to WM2005 5 times but 5 times it gave me error "there has been a problem. Soft reset your device, put it back in the cradle, and start the update again.."

no proplem you can downgrade it back to WM2003SE i tried it many times to 2.20.07 chs and upgraded it again to win 2005 any other ques,,,?

i found new proplem >> when i do rest i found no signals in the phone i tried more than 6 times but no changes so i made soft rest to back to the defult settings so....... i found signals :lol: but after doing rest the signals had gone again

i will tell u somthing !!! i was facing these proplem and i solve it by luck i just change my regional and language settings (all to english uk ) < all
in the computer <pc> and also an my ppc from settings>system>regional and language settings .... shoose english uk
and do rest to the pc and ppc and begain to upgread your ppc

Download ER2003Edit from ftp (/Win2k5/ER2003Edit_1_4_26.msi) and open your downloaded (not touched with xda2nbftool.exe) NK.nbf file with ER-Edit.
Now,
If you remember from whom your current NK.nbf is then just select this Operator from the list
OR
if you have your current ROM's NK.nbf, then open it with ER-Edit and see the operator name. Now, open your WM2k5 NK.nbf and select this Operator from the list
OR
if you don't remember your operator, then try each of the listed operators (by selecting different operators and running "HimaUpgradeUt.exe" for each selection)

Microsoft Voice Command, Soft buttons, Resco Explorer
Not sure if anybody has ideas on these three but here goes: I've tried installing MS Voice Command 1.0 which failed (I assume due to the incorrect installation location at the time) but now that I've got the RamDisk sorted I try to install 1.5 and it also fails. This time it's because the PPC finds a "previous installation" that must be removed. There's nothing to remove in "remove programs", I can't find any keys for it in the registry and the 2 files under Windows/AppMgr/Microsoft Voice Command cannot be deleted (STP3001 and STPD401). Next: In the "hot off the press" previews of the Official 2005 OS they state that one of the changes is two user-programmable soft buttons. While I've got the soft button I can't find a way to change them (phone isn't a useful shortcut on the today screen when you have the green button). I wasn't sure if this was a limitation on the OS release or on my part. Finally: I cannot navigate to the Windows folder in Resco Explorer 2003. I can see it under my device but nothing happens when I select it. Under normal explorer there are no problems. I hope I've explained these "problems" enough and really hope someone can shed some light on them. Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure about the other problems, but the Voice Command problem most probably comes from the fact the Microsoft is including Voice Command capabilities in Windows Mobile 5 (official name now), and that some parts of Voice Command is already included in the OS ROM. Since it's not active, you're stuck with Voice Command not running.

I spent some time writing this app and would love your feedback/testing. The UI is still being tweaked but the core engine is working fine. Of course, there's more customisations to do but I feel the overall app works. There's quite a bit of undocumented features but I am in the process of improving/documentation. If you can give me some feedback on this, that would be great. This project was meant from day 1 to be FREE and accessible to everyone. I just hope you enjoy using it as much as I enjoy building it!
I've written specifically for HTC S620 (aka TMobile Dash). Uses WM6/.NET CF 2.0 (which is built into ROM) so you should be able to run it. Everything else is in the .cab file package. It can be oriented to portrait but prefered to be run in landscape mode. Supports emoticons and more along with message backup.

sorry folks - I just reposted the .cab installer - It's strange, it works fine - I installed it on another wm5 device and it worked. If you guys don't mind, I have the installer reuploaded and hopefully this time it will work. The final build will be signed - right now, it's not signed so if your device asks you about running it unsigned, say yes (for those who don't know)

What model phone and what ROM version do you have?
What is the specific error or is it a general app install failure message?
Is your device application unlocked as well?
Again, I apologize for the failed install. I will grab another WM6 device to try out.

well it's a wizard with TNT 5.0 WM6 rom. the error is still "cab installation was unsuccessful". i think the cab packing is wrong.

I am going to see if I can grab a retail WM6 device to test the install. I will see what the hell is happening. The .cab is compressed but not signed - so app unlocking is necessary. But i will see what the retail WM6 device reports back.

This is a rough start - you know how software development can be at times - nothing seems to work as planned lol. But believe me, the version build is stable enough to warrant a release. I scrapped the installer and recreated the packaging fresh. Nothing seems to be wrong with it initially (no unusual errors in the .log file). I just scrapped it and redid it just to be sure.
Just also make sure you device is application unlocked because this is unsigned release. It was designed to work on an HTC S620 but will adjust to screen orientation at least in Windows Mobile 6 (standard/pro).
I reuploaded the installer (IMSMS_Install.cab) and hopefully it will work. I am in the process of acquiring another Windows Mobile 6 smartphone to test installer. THis is really pissing me off because the app is seriously worth the time
I am still improving but having limited budget (no surplus of phones to test) sucks as well (being realistic). Give it a chance and see if it really suits your needs - I know I needed something like this for a while - something that is fast and easy to use.
I'll be back later to confirm if indeed this installer will work. I may just recompile on another workstation since this (x64 vista visual studio) may be having problems as well.

I need some more feedback - but I don't see why not - the core engine can work with any component - I just did not spend too much time tweaking a custom UI (limited in power on the HTCS620 - possible UI lag issues). I'm very sure it can be made to accomodate a widescreen device as well.
I just need this damn installer to work!

i tried to install and it ended up with the same error (unsuccessful) -
Then i opened the cab file - there is an entry "Maximum OS version" - i changed the build number to 0, saved the cab and i was able to install the IMSMS.
Also changed the location for the shortcut (was %ProgramFiles%), now it's %StartMenu_Programs%. Hope this info will help you.
Added the rebuilt cab to my post...

Seems like the STUPID COMCAST hosting corrupted my .cab file! I was pulling my hair out - until I realised it was corrupted every time I uploaded the file!

Its installed fine, on the whole looks fine on WVGA, the name box is ok, the black text entry box has writing thats to big for it, i loose some of the writing into the white area underneath,
now here's the possible failure, i cant send what ive written, is there a trick to this i'm missing? i looked through the tutorial but couldnt see anything obvious.. also the built in help goes off the bottom of the screen, maybe a scroll bar required? I see the create sms in the menu is to "NOT" use IMSMS to send a text so i dont know how to send what ive typed in. I've tried the SIP enter key, and the hardware enter key, nothing sends

OK now its working 90% .. but same as mate ... dont have a tool to send the messege after writing it on black area text .. (already hit the ENTER key or the middle button on the navigation keypad ) but nothing happens..cursor stays there....

Color depth in WM6
Me again,
Just read somewhere in another thread that somebody was asking about the bad colors of WM6 and that it was much better in WM5.
But now it is even not possible with downgrading to WM5 to get the right settings back.
This is the same for me (S200 G4). All pictures and movies are looking bad just as you would have not enough colors anymore.
Any idea what it is or how to solve that?

I have a problem with this O2 XDA Rom. I installed it on my Prophet, but no tool is able to start. "Failed certificate".
So I tried to do it again, but I can't delete the rom and overwrite it with the original one. When I open the EnterBootloader.exe, the pocket PC shutdown and do nothing. What can I do?

Do you mean the step 1? At step 1 run Romupgradeutility..
Please be sure kind of your device.. It is a G4 Device or G3 Device..
Anyway how you can run Enterbootloader.exe in Windows XP?? It is not possible...
Anyway how you overwrite this ROM with the original one??

I have a original ROM from the Original XDA, how I get it. So WM5...
I am able to load your ROM, so I connected it to my PC and copied the EnterBootloader.exe and executed it from the Pocket PC, so that I am able to recover the original ROM back.
But the only thing, that happen... it shut down and don't show the Screen with the 3 colors. What is my mistake?

so that is the problem..
You made a big mistake here...
You don't need to copy EnterBootloader.exe..
you have connect your device to PC ( Windows XP)
as I said the first step ist STep 1.. Downgrade to WM 5 PDA Viet ( no vendor)
But you have to be sure kind of device that you have..

at Step 1 you will find Romupgradeutility.G3 or G4 instead.. run this program from windows XP.
after finish downgrading..
you can run the step 2.. that I posted above..
So now your prophet is totally dead or what??
if you know kind of device that you have..Maybe yopu can try downgrade through bootloader mode.. ( Hold camera + on/off button , insert stylus to reset button..But hold the camera + on/off button until three color screen appear..)

I know that I have a G4 Model. I wanted to downgrade, but during downgrading, the pocket PC doesn't enter the Bootloader with the 3 colors, so I tried it manually with the EnterBootloader.exe.
That doesn't work. And it doesn't work with the Camera + On / Off-> Stylus...
So, that is my problem ...

Okay, now I am really in trouble. I updated it again.
Now the facts:
- The PPC don't boots up in windows (at first the boot logo, than a white screen)
-I can "format" it via holding "Comm-Manager + Camera + On" + Softreset
-but then the same again.. boots up and stops at white screen...
- The Bootloader (with the 3 colors) cannot be started via holding "Camera + On" + Softreset
So, what can I do now!?

I tried to keep the ROM as original as it is... so this is my result of keeping it that way.

Their are a lot of English ROM you could try... maybe someone is nice enough to build one in English.

It constant finishes up flashing.
Than it enters the bootloader, after 'factory defaults/ fat thingies/ hard reset'
It just always pops up the three colored screen.
Have flashed several WM6 roms, never happened Hmm...

Did the old-upgrade method, no HARDSPL. Stupid me. HardSPL method works, my bad.
Looks good / ziet r goed uit! Will post comments after few days use.

You delivered the 'perfect rom' for me.
The first ROM which is 100% bugfree, and really feels like a factory-rom.
Much faster than WM5, and some things I immediately find:
- Messages starts in account-chooser, like it should (not much WM6 roms do this, annoying since I use it a lot and have 3 accounts)
- Wifi perfect working, synchronising exchange in a minute
- GPRS working
- Smartdialing perfect
Euh, no strange things. Gonna keep this one! Maybe, i will strip it a bit coz 10MB free space is not much, a lot of progs I don't use.

My screen doesn't react while tapping on it.
This happens when I start messages (berichten) from the start menu. The account chooser will be shown and the screen stops reacting on taps.
Does anybody of you have this problem?
Hmm, after soft reset, losing all settings like GPRS / Wifi / Emailaccounts and the Exchangeserver password servername seems still present
Is it fixable?

First, don't soft reset using the stylus, but just restart using the on/off button.
to repair the emailaccount use this:

Now I did NOT install ext.rom and dit NOT use that auto-network-wizard-settings thing .I thought of pickin it up somewhere on this board that that would mess the settings.
Anyway, now I softresettet about 5 times and still settings are there... When not, I will use your tool!

You shouldn't soft reset your device with stylus.. If you want to restart your phone turn it off and then on again.. Its not meant to be reset via stylus.. Its like plugging the cable while your computer is on, which will couse data loss..
All those setting should stay after a soft reset so I don't see any problem. If you Hard-reset they should be gone
It shouldn't but it did Anyway, now it stays, even with softresetting with stylus (which isn't neccesary anymore because this rom is damn stable...)
Soft-resetted with powerbutton:
all settings gone
The .zip makes the accounts re-appear (also without settings) which is better then before (i couldn't add it again coz it 'already existed' though invisible)
But it is not really a solution...
A lot has been written already about this topic, it is a flaw of WM6, so they say. In short: WM6 don't write its cache to resident memory to often, so if you reset to quickly after making some settings, they are lost. The idea of using the off/on button is to force the sysyem to write the cache to memory. Obvious that theory doesn't apply in your case.
Try "search" to find more threads about this topic, perhaps you will find a solution that works for you.

I've been looking at these folks from some time now, and they seem to have made 6.5 ROMs that work - Clicky!
But I have no idea how to download the roms, neither how to apply them to the lobby one - any help @ that will be appreciated
And by the way - that forum is doing some pretty good stuff about the monet, it'd be nice if we could post the most essential stuff from there (with permission of coruse)

I've downloaded the latest 6.5 rom from htc365 and can confirm that it works in English with no obvious problems.
Can you upload it somewhere - rapidshare/other sharing server and make a little guide how to do the operation

First install USPL by following the instructions in this post.
Then extract one of the zip files below and run ROMUpdateUtility.
When first installed, the language will be set to Chinese. To change to English, move to the settings icon (cog) and press the right soft-button. Then press 0, then 2, then right to select 'US English' and finally the left soft-button to save. You'll need to restart the phone to apply the setting.
The clean version does not include the DAB radio software whereas the integrated version has it in Chinese. To get the radio app I copied the 'TTP' folder within 'Program Files' on my wm5 lobster over to wm6.5 and it runs fine. See below for download.
I have only tried the 'Clean' version of the rom.

Issues so far:
Settings icon on home screen has some Chinese text
Activsync fails to synchronise contacts
Calender display shows months text incorrectly
awesome i hope this works better than the last one i was forced to go back to wm5
(note to self.. back up numbers this time.. back up numbers)
I should point out that the 'incorrect calendar display' issue was merely my incompetence - by default it displays Lunar months, but this can easily be switched off.
I still haven't managed to get activesync to synchronise contacts but pim backup worked well enough.
The time taken to start windows is a little annoying, there seem to be 3 or 4 different splash screens now.
just wondering, where is the T9 settings? and if there isnt any T9.. why?
How did you revert to the original wm5?
That's the only thing stopping me from flashing that 6.5
when i got the 6.1 rom i got the wm5 rom with it, flashed it the same way as i did wm6.1 and wm6.5
i still miss the T9 tho
Can you upload the original wm5 somewhere, just in case something goes wrong when migrating to 6.5

Many thanks spasmj, I also updated to the clean version and it gives my Lobster a whole new lease of life.
I was hoping to get a newer version of TomTom on it was well - but I gave up and went back to V5.2 (newer versions seem to want a have touch/stylus driven initially - but followed some advise about a particular V7 that is supposed to support keypad - but it wouldn't install).
Also a good tip to get rid of the Chinese on the front screen on Settings is to move to another home screen (I went to Sliding Panel Full).
Also anyone know who to get rid of the Chinese Mail account, I have added my Gmail but can't delete the Chinese one - minor annoyance.

I'm not sure how you'd do that. I don't know how the tv button works in the original wm5 rom. Does anyone know?
I imagine writing a small program to run in the background and wait for that button press wouldn't be too hard.

But ques for spasmj - (after updating to 6.5 rom - cheers) I copied the TTP folder to program files on the lobster but when launching the app (DABplayer or DABlauncher) I get nothing - I click to do a scan and nothing on the DAB radio - not even a failure to scan - it just sits there. It does create the TV and Radio folder. Do you have to have your original Virgin sim in? I have unlocked mine so now on o2. My original sim I got with the lobster was never used so I presume it was disabled as it doesn't work - but tried another Virgin PAYG sim and nothing on DAB radio.
After quitting I also seem to have a TV & Radio.Ink shortcut in the recent programs that fails?
