I have encountered with problem that after i soft reset, my device is stuck on boot screen.
Now ,i know the reason for that problem.
it due to SD-card. XDA2 has check up SD-card everytime when you do a soft reset.
To correct this problem, you just put SD-card out before soft reset and put in back when soft reset is complete.
you can try it but now i didn't stuck on boot screen again.
If you are saying about v2.06 Well, it's not really true. I believe some still face the soft reset hang even after taking out their storage card.
As a result, this is not a true solution. Sorry to say so.
In order to solve that problem, try flashing v2.06 rom wif minimize extended rom files.....

Sorry but i think its not the solution either.
i got a near-full Extended Rome files ( less than 200kb left ) , an extended-extended ROM ( \storage ) and i dont experience that usual "hang"
what i did : uninstall Battery pack pro v.11.1  problematic appz. not designed for SE.
instead, i use rhinocode TodayPanel Pro and RhinoLaunch apps that is designed for SE. it works flawlessly... and i trimmed my Today screen, hiding other not frequently used itmes ( date, owners info, etc. )
morale of the story : if possible, pick and install proggies that is designed for SE, especially the today plug-ins bcoz it will screw up and will cause resets..
stable wm2003se for a week now..

Couldn't be more agree wif u. Battery pack pro v1.1.1 really doesnt work wif SE at the moment.
However, i'm be able to use Spb Pocket Plus v2.2 flawlessly and since then, i never had the above problems....hang/soft reset/today plug-in get screwed up......
But there's a way to configure it.....hehe
I have Battery pack pro v1.1.1 and it works fine on 2.02tWWE :?:
I don't even have an SD card and I got the hanging boot
Hi All
I've flashed a t-mobile MDA (blue angel) with the I-Mate ROM. The boot hang occured for me when I pulled the battery out for the first time in ages (two months plus?) having only performed soft resets within that time.
An interesting thing I noticed was that the red light was flashing... not sure whether it made a message noise, but it looked to me as if I had an appointment message waiting for me underneath the boot screen...
Just thought the extra info may help.
Cheers, G
Hi. I currently have a Uk O2 xda2 on version 1.72.181. wm2003
I would like to upgrade my device to the best & latest version suited for it.
Whilst experienced with computers in general, the whole area of rom's extended rom's, cooked rom's and radio stacks is new to me.
Can someone make a recommendation as to which rom I need, where I can find it, and exactly how to go about the upgrade. Also I would be very grateful I you could tell me what tools I will need.
Also is it possible to install wm2005?
upgrading
hey ryanxda2,
most people are having this upgrading problem!
but i have windows mobile 2005 and it is a great rom no matter what people say.
if you want to cheak things out the topic that started this wm2005 search is: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=18584&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
but if you want wm2005 and the latest leaked version of activesync 4.0 i have an upload site: http://www.freewebs.com/doglover7337/wm2005.rar
the file is commpressed in a rar format and you will need "winrar" a great commpression program for free http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
inorder to install wm2005 on to your ppc you need to sync your ppc with your computer and then run the file called:"HimaUpgradeUt.exe"
this program should autodetect your device and upgrade its rom. after the rom upgrade you need to hard reste your device, that is a little diffrent in wm2005:
you need to hold down power+camera+record buttons and press the reset button then let go, a menu should pop up, then go down to the last one and select yes (this can be done using the camera and the record buttons) after that press the scroll button hard and it should reset your device but before you connect your ppc to your computer you need to install activesync 4.0 because it has the driver for the new wm2005, after thats all done you should be set to explore all of the new rom and activesync!
There are some things I have to tell you about first:
this rom is in its alpha stage, but it is the most stable rom in alpha stage i have seen
also i have to tell you that sms ans mms are not there but you can still receive them, we are working on getting the mms and sms functions in the new rom
I recomend that you atleast try this new rom, if you don't like it you can always go back to you old one or 2003se, who knows you might love it and stay with this new rom (i did)
good luck and have fun!
hello,
I have a TSM500 (is the Telefonica name of the HTC, XDAII...)
Do you think that everything it is working now it will work:
TTN 3.07 (with a serial port connected TTN GPS device)
Phone (Movistar provide in Spain the mobile-phone operation)
SMS (I'm not using MMS...)
Microsoft OutLook (Sync with PC and Exchage Server under a VPN)
I have spent a lot of hours configuring and make it all work together and I have read wm2005 is slower and unstable...
Destroyer you have recomended to install it... For me, the only reason is to use in better conditions the BT stack (now, after upgrading ROM, EXT-ROM adn RADIO I got a non usable BT situation, that force me a hard reset and re-install all the programs again to become at the start point situation.
Do I get this improved BT functonallity: BT-Phone and system Audio, BT-Sync, BT-Ethernet access?
Thankyou
Best WM2003SE upgrade for UK 02 xda II
Thanks for that, I appreciate the response, and will download wm2005, i'll try wm2005 once I get a non essential unit to try it on. In the meantime, I'll be looking for advice & instructions on the best wm2003 se upgrade for my unit, what I need to consider etc etc.
Does anyone one have any suggestions on this?
I tried installing wm2003se yesterday. It wasn't too painful, and the UI looked a bit nicer, but there were two problems which I faced. Fisrstly, phone calls would default to the speaker phone whenever you made or answered them. Secondly, when putting it on standby, you couldn't wake the device from standby. A soft reset was required to get the device usable again.
I followed this thread here (gave up after reading about 20 pages of it). But it appears that I wasn't the only one who had those problems. I don't think they got as far as a solution either.
Wm2003se
Thanks Timmeh, I'll have alook at that thread now.
Just so that I've got it straight what version of each part should I be looking to install, and can I obtain them all in that thread?
I had tried an upgrade about 2 months ago which went onto my device ok, but some auto script in config file, kept popping up a dialog box, which I couldn't close, so I couldn't move to other functions!
Thx
When I tryed the upgrade, I didnt change the extended ROM, so when it went through installing everything, it all came up with "This program may not display properly...", which isn't a problem in itself. The problem comes from not being able to press the button to close the dialog, but you can press on the nav key, which works a treat. (The reason for this is in the config.txt file in the extended ROM, which tells the phone what order to run things, such as installing cab's, after a hard reset. A file called TPdisable.exe is run before installing everying else, which disables the touch pad.)
There are 2 options when upgrading from that link in the forum. One was posted by DC, and all you have to do is unzip it and run the upgrade exec (while ya phone is in the cradle). The other was posted by a mistery person, which is an exe installer.
DC's does not include an extended ROM (all the other apps that get installed with windows, like camera drivers), so using that will just use your existing exteneded ROM. The mistery mans file does have an extended rom included, however, I didnt use it, so I don't know if it's any good.
IMO, I would go with the mystery mans installer. His/hers is a slightly newer build of WM2003SE, and the extended ROM should work.
Before you do that though, it's worth getting hold of the existing ROM for your phone, so you can go back if you decide that you don't like it (as I did). You can download that from here, assuming that you have an XDA II and are on o2 uk, which your details would seem to suggest.
If you do it, let us know how it works out. I wouldn't mind maybe trying again, but as soon as I finish my dissertation, and have time to make a proper effort at my own custom extended ROM.
Thanks Timmeh, I'll give that a try now. I'll let you know how I get on
A major problem has developed with my qtek. All the programs have disappeared. When I press start I am greeted with a completely blank page.
All the shortcuts on the mian screen are invalid and I can't run anything.
The phone is still funtional and I can access my contacts and calendar information but I can't sync it because it looks as though activesync is missing.
I have tried a soft reset (battery out) but the problem persists
I even tried a hard reset using the power on soft key method but this didn't actually go into the hard reset screen. It looks as though the rom is corrupt - has anyone had an experience of this?
I am now getting device low on memory messages all the time but can't even attempt to remove anything as I can't access any programs - please help!!
Please read the other thread where you asked what buttons the softkeys were.
Hardresetting will probably work, or installing the latest rom from your distributer might also work, but try the hardreset first.
That is what I thought - altough hard reset does not work and all the programs are missing including activesync so I can't put a new rom on it either!
Calling all users who had windows boot screen freeze bug!
I personally am getting this bug. It's preventing me from using PDAViet's rom which I love. I need to know the following to help track down the cause:
0) What version of ROM were you using?
1) Applications installed when it happened
2) Radio ROM version (2.19.21, 2.47.21, etc...)
3) Device model (dopod 818, imate etc...)
4) Device version (G3 or G4)
5) How long it was since last hard reset (1 day,6 hours, etc..)
6) Approx how many soft resets you already made (1-5, 5-10 10-15, etc...)
7) Approx how many shutdowns you already made (holding power button for 4+ seconds)
8) any other significant info you think will help:
9) Do you have the HTC Homeplug today plugin enabled?
10) have you populated your PIM apps via pimbackup or via activesync?
11) Do you have the "HTC_default" today theme enabled?
Edit3: Another possible cause is the "htc_default" black theme. Please report if you had this theme enabled when the boot freeze is encountered. Added question 11.
Edit2: Tracked down a very possible cause for this bug/issue. the new 6 button HTC Homeplug (today screen plugin) seems to be the problem. After disabling the homeplug, users have reported no more boot screen freezes. Read this thread for more information
Edit: Added question 9 & 10
If you've posted, please edit your post to answer new questions. THANKS!!!
0) What version of ROM were you using?
- started happening with PDAViet 40005a Cross
- reproduced on PDAViet 40006 Touch
- As far as I tried, never happened with PDAViet 40005 cross (first edition)
1) Applications installed when it happened
- Resco Explorer
- HTC Phone Pad
- Calligrapher
- Memmaid
- Batterystatus
2) Radio ROM version (2.19.21, 2.47.21, etc...)
- tried v2.19.21, 2.47.21, 2.61.21, and 2.69.21
3) Device model (dopod 818, imate etc...)
Dopod 818pro
4) Device version (G3 or G4)
G3
5) How long it was since last hard reset (1 day,6 hours, etc..)
- sometimes a few days,
- sometimes within a few hours of flashing
6) Approx how many soft resets you already made (1-5, 5-10 10-15, etc...)
- 5-10
7) Approx how many shutdowns you already made (holding power button for 4+ seconds)
- 5-10
8) any other significant info you think will help:
- Someone mentioned it could be related to the IE temp files/cache being set to storage card. But I don't think so because PDAViet had IE temp directories on storage card earlier than 40005cross.
9) Do you have the HTC Homeplug today plugin enabled?
- Yes, HTC homeplug was enabled
10) have you populated your PIM apps via pimbackup or via activesync?
- I think *most* (but not all) crashes occured after i activesynced with outlook
0) What version of ROM were you using?
- I got it with PDAViet 40005a Cross

4) Device version (G3 or G4)
- G3
5) How long it was since last hard reset (1 day,6 hours, etc..)
- 12 hours
6) Approx how many soft resets you already made (1-5, 5-10 10-15, etc...)
- 1-5
7) Approx how many shutdowns you already made (holding power button for 4+ seconds)
- 0
8) any other significant info you think will help:
- I noticed that when I do a backup by SPB backup, I got the following error log :
unable to read from \Windows\History.IE5\index.dat
unable to read from \Windows\Cookies\index.dat
unable to read from \Windows\Temporary InternetFiles\Content.IE5\index.dat
In fact these files are moved to the SD directly by the PDAViet rom.
But after moving back these path on the device (by SkTools), the error log is not there anymore, but the freeze can happen anyway.
So it may be caused from something else.
PS : on earlier versions than the 4.0.0.5a cross, there wasn't any error log with SPB backup.
9) Do you have the HTC Homeplug today plugin enabled?
- Yes
10) have you populated your PIM apps via pimbackup or via activesync?
- via pimbackup
ok I had freze one in one of my beta roms and at that time I was using the WiFiInit.exe from PDAVIET and I also found that when I was using their WiFiInit in startup folder the phone would stop at welcomehead.96.png screen with battery and wifi lights blinking so that might be the problem ? I'm now using an other WiFiInit.exe for my rom
The freeze I'm getting does not have LED's blinking. but the question about the Wifiinit is very interesting.
Can someone (maybe Cloudyfa???) confirm whether or not wifiinit changed from PDAViet 40005 to PDAViet 40005a + higher?
The WiFiInit.exe on 40006 Touch is 7120 bytes.

4) Device version (G3 or G4)
G3
5) How long it was since last hard reset (1 day,6 hours, etc..)
- sometimes a few days,
- seems can be reproduce on one copy I backup using SPBbackup, after I restore it, install an apps (mapking), it'll die

GOOD NEWS!!!! or actually maybe bad new...
I think i am able to reproduce the boot screen freeze!!!
I have 40006 installed and have softreset and powered down 10+ times. Installed random apps, and reset with wifi/bt/vibrate on and off, and nothign works.
*finally* I decide to sync the phone to my outlook. It syncs up, no probs,
I unplug the USB cable, and hit the reset button again (wifi, bt, and vibrate were still on) and BAM. i'm stuck on the windows mobile screen again.
So perhaps there is an issue with the memory. my outlook calendar isn't that big and neither is my contact list. Maybe something critical in the ROM is getting overwritten?
going to try again now
Hi,
Actually I have this problem several times (>5), but everytime involves an activesync at the very begining with synchronize to my outlook. My outlook do have around 200 contacts, but after the synchronization, not each time i got this problem immediately, sometimes, after sync for so many times, install so many apps, and one time, after a reboot, just stucked...
It happened to me once and I then attributed it to installing sipchange. This was very shortly after installing 4.0.0.6.touch.
After that I flashed my phone again, first with NVID and then with 4.0.0.6.touch and it hasn't happened yet.
radio 2.47.21 on a Qtek S200 G3
I've only got HTC Dark Phone Pad, PocketCM and PHM regedit installed.
I do not sync with outlook, but I do use DirectPush. If I connect to my pc, I use Bluetooth, not the USB cable.
Only problem I have so far is that I can't dump the memory contents to an SD card Something about not having enough permissions
edit: I've got the homeplug active.
3 times happened when soft reset after charging my handset(818pro) to 100% power by PC USB port.
It may be caused by long time USB connection with PC.
I suspected the USB charging as well, but I've soft reset with the USb plugged in, reset after shortly pulling the usb plug out, reset after syncing, reset after unplugging and syncing...
It's very hard to reproduce.. The most reliable way to reproduce the freeze is to pull the USB cable out, wait a few seconds, (the orange charge light should still be on), and then after 4-5 seconds, press the softreset.
It's not 100% but that's how i got it to freeze the last two times... maybe I'm wrong.. i dunno..
So i still haven't been able to reproduce the problem reliably. I chatted with Cloudyfa and he said the main difference between PDAViet 40005 and PDAViet 40005a (when this problem started happening), was the addition of the HTC homeplug from kaiser.
I've disabled the homeplug for now and will try very hard to reproduce the problem again. Usually i'll happen within a day with all my reseting and playing around. So far, 4-5 hours in, it hasn't crashed on reset.
For those that have experienced the reset issue... did you have the homeplug enabled?
Thanks,
Please try charging handset to 100% power by PC USB port and reset again.
BTW, I enabled HTC homeplug.
Yes I had the homeplug enabled each time it happened.
And just for information, I switched to the Gullum V5 yesterday for testing, and I just got this issue with this rom two...
So three leads can be followed :
- it's due by a 3rd party software I installed
- two roms use the same thing that makes this happened
- two bugs are differents but got the same effect

Hi actually I tried the Gullum V5 yesterday too. After just install it, hard reset, ext rom installation, looks ok, once I install the chinese plug in (Monster Chinese), which I do install in the 4.0.0.0.6 Touch without problem, once after the installation and required softreset, it hangs in the boot screen. I tried twice and getting the same result.

Update on my testing. almost 24 hours with homeplug disabled and lots of softresets. No boot screen freezes yet... crossing my fingers this weekend!
I switched back to PV 4006 touch and I gonna try to use it my way with the Homeplug disabled.
I'll let you know if it fixes our problem or not.

So can anyone confirm that they did a pimbackup before frezz ?
this might be the problem
I've recently tried a couple of WM6.1 roms on my 838pro (Pays 3.05 full and RanDomIze Final Storm v2.10") and they both work for a while, but after some time (twice in the middle of an installation, but not always) most of my shortcuts stop working, and if I soft reset the device won't boot (doesn't reach windows loading).
Is anyone aware of this happening before, and any way to fix it?
Thank you!
I upgraded to 6.1 and it worked fine, but after a few hours while installing a game it basically did what you described.
Now it won't boot into the OS, what did you do to get an OS workin again?
I figured out how to reinstall WM6.1, I tried another release and it did the same thing. It's weird it works fine until you sync it with a pc and start transfering things, both times it was after transfering from my xp desktop but my Vista Laptop seems to not cause this corruption, i'll keep testing
Have the same problem with a large number of 6.1 OSes. Found yo can sync with your computer BUT only leave it for as long as you'"re doing stuff then disconnct. this seems to stop it stuffing up my phone as the ONLY thing you can do once the OS dies is reload the OS with another flash( had an error message come up saying that a program wsnt signed with a proper cert or some such and it automatically goes back to factory reset). Since only syncing when I need to it seems to not have problems. Just means I need another power point to recharge my hermes. Cheers.
I had the same problem until I loaded CRC's 6.1 V8. I have been running it for about a week with no problems at all. Be sure to delete all devices in Activesync before you connect to use Activesync.

Yeah, that's the only one that's kept working for me so far!
i do suggest that you guys do a check for bad blocks
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=377389
although i have heard that a rom flash *might* be able to fix bad blocks, dont take my word on that though
with the bad blocks, if you do have it, wouldn't it not matter if you are running wm5, wm6 or wm6.1? they would all crash, mess up eventually?
I will try checking mine for bad blocks, but I didn't have any problems with wm5, upgraded to wm6.1 PAYS, had constant freezes, crashes, hard resets, etc...this was after I installed programs. If I didn't install anything, it would be ok. Although it's not like installed crazy programs, the usual google maps, today agenda, etc... maybe three or four programs.
Now downgraded to wm6, installed more things, no problems. (knock on wood)
it could be possible that you just had a bad flash with the 6.1 rom. or it could be just possible that one of your apps did not agree too well with 6.1. happened to me too, i somehow forgot that i had wm6.1 and installed an app that was not compatible with 6.1
