SMS via bluetooth? How? - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 ROM Development

I'm just wondering if this is really possible...I read an article where a group of people were exchanging text/sms via bluetooth. If it's doable, how? Can you do this with any bluetooth-enabled phones/pdas?

there are a number of bluetooth chat software you can download. you can use Buzzone or pocketbluechat, etc.. but the other party you are sending sms to must have installed the app also.

[Q] How to build and SMS Server with an Android Phone?

Hello Everybody,
I'm looking for a way to use my phone to send SMS mailing from my computer.
My idea was to use the 3G modem of my android device, connect my computer to it and fine a software to send SMS from my computer.
In a second time i would like to able to receive SMS to the computer.
Does anybody knows a way to do that?
Best Regards,
Richard Perez
Did you ever find a answer to this? Im searchingnfor something similar
Is this for more personal use like texting your friends from your computer or more like a business application to where you want to be able to send and recieve texts to your "server".
For personal use, I believe you could just use Google Voice. If thats not up your alley, you could try droidmessenger.com or DesktopSms.
For buisness application, google sms gateway. You can send texts out to carriers free sms gateways, I know there is software out there that takes use of sending texts this way.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

I did a Google search and found some info I was just wondering if there a Popular one that Prime guys like. Thanks for your input.
"Prime guys"? I swear XDA is just goin to hell. There is already a thread on here for the exact same thing.
Try Gtalk. Every SMS will go to whatever app you have Gtalk open on, either your computer/tablet/phone.
Google Voice is as good as any app for SMS. I use it on my tablet. You can consolidate all texts and call through the same number, ditch your carrier number for the most part, so that when you swap carriers or phones or REAL phone numbers, people can still use the same number to reach you. You could even use the Google Voice Callback (though its market availability is currently in limbo, install it on an android phone by downloading the apk. It all syncs together, you can use your GV with an app like sipdroid to make calls using voip. I thought this was all common knowledge for android users.

Just install tablet talk and use a real phone. Google Voice blocks you from sending messages to a contact after 120-150 in one day, unless you are using it through forwarding texts to any cellular (dumb or smart)phone. So GV on it's own is not useful for serious communication.

As far as I know Google Voice does not send MMS either. If it did I would use it on all my devices by default.

[Q] Read my email .. Is there an app for that?

Hi there,
I do a lot of driving and my phone is connected via Bluetooth in the car. I love the fact that the OS will read text messages over my car speakers and allow me to respond all hands free when a new message comes across. I've been looking for something similar in the marketplace for email but can't find anything. Is anyone aware of an application that will read your email aloud when your phone receives it?
Thanks.
I don't think the current API's will allow access to a user's email, so the only way this would be possible is if the app itself connected to your email. I haven't seen anything that does that.

A few questions concerning WhisperPush on CM11

Hi Folks.
I've been using CyanogenMod11 for a few weeks now, and i was very happy when i realised that it has WhisperPush (TextSecure) integrated. However, a few questions came up when i started using it.
1. There seems to be no way of finding out whether or not my Messages are encrypted or not (when using the standard SMS App). Additionally, there seems to be no was of finding out if Messages were sent as SMS or as an online Message. I chatted with a friend of mine, who is using Textsecure with Android (not CM), and he told me that we were chatting via online messages, while i couldn't see a difference to normal SMS.
I would like to see if my messages are encrypted, and whether im communicating via sms or via data connection. I would like to know that before i send my Message, because otherwise, i might send important data via an unencrypted connection. Is there any way to do that, or will this feature be implemented in future versions? Is this even possible, to show a certain symbol when using my normal SMS app oder Google Hangouts or whatever?
2. As i can't find out if my Messages are encrypted or not, i also can't find out for which applications whisperpush is used. I read that it works with sms apps and with google hangouts, but could i theoretically just use any App with it? Could i, for example, chat encrypted with any Jabber client via whisperpush? (I know that i can also use OTR with Jabber, but it would be very convenient to just use all my apps and have them automatically encrypted by whisperpush).
Thanks for answers =)

What specific functions to which are you referring? I use Hangouts and I can reply to text messages, using Gear Notification Extender.
I use an app called MySMS to sync SMS/MMS messages between my Mac, PC, and iPad. The Android app requires it to be the default messaging app for full functionality. If I set it as default, and attempt to send an SMS through the watch, I get a message saying it cannot send because the Messages app on the phone must be the default.
You can still send text from the watch using Messages if you don't make it default. When the watch asks to change the default app, I choose "Cancel" and it still goes to the next screen. I create new text that way without issues.
Does that work only for sending with the watch's number or for when it's connected via bluetooth or remotely to the phone as well?
Frankly I haven't tried the remote connection. If I sent a text with Bluetooth, it uses my phone's number.
