Hi
I recently upgraded my XDAII to Sin's magic new merged ROM and am really happy with it (thanks Sin!). The only problem is that now my SD slot appears to not work. I have tried to search the forum for an answer but have had no luck.
Symptoms of the problem:
When I insert the card when the phone is on but the backlight has turned off, the backlight comes on again, so it must be recognising the fact that the card has been insterted. But I don't see it either in explorer, or in the Memory control applet.
I have tried a couple of cards, and have even reformatted them using a card reader, but still no joy.
Am I being dumb? Hope someone can help.
Cheers

Hi, should have mentioned that I am running WM2003SE. Hope someone can help.

Have you considered reflashing the Rom again? Maybe the unit went through a flashing error?

Hi everyone,
I have a Siemens SX 56 (North American version) running the latest ATT WM 2003 official rom. I have the latest T-mo Radio Stack on it (6.24).
I bought a new Lexar 256 Mb SD card (32x write speed). I saved a whole bunch of mp3'z and stuff on it. The SD card works fine for some time, but then the phone seems to erase all data on it every once in a while! I searched the forums and someone suggested using "storage tools" program and formatting the card with "backup FAT" method.... I have done that too.... It has erased all data on my SD card twice after that as well..... Someone else suggested that you should exit all applications that open on the SD card (or are using the SD card) before you turn it off. I do that too. Even then I have lost all data.
My question is what can I do to correct this? Is the Lexar card the problem? Should I try Sandisk? Sandisk is actually a bit cheaper too..... I can exchange the card for that. Kindly reply quickly and let me know what I can do to fix this issue. Thank you.
Just had it happen to me on my SX56 using WM2003 Beta and a SanDisk 512mb card. Lost everything. Thought it might be the card but now I'm wondering...
Gonna try and replicate the problem.

some time ago I had similar problems with Lexar faulty card, but that seemed to be somewhere explained in that forum that ultimately it has been not card problem but .... wm2003, hehe
I know it sounds strange ..... if I can manage I point you to the right postings .....
regards, monika
ps. I have solved termorarily my problem by simply locking SD card  and then after changing Lexar for Sandisk problems stopped
Bpd, there is a hisory of spontaneous formatting of memory cards ever since WM2003 came out, it wasnt just confined to XDA either, I saw a few posts in other pocket pc forums with the same problem, some people put it down to installed themes.

Use the little white switch on the side of the card to lock it!
Also its been reported that if you label the card after formating it you wouldn't have this problem. Personally I'd do both!
BTW whats the time frame on the erase after you did the upgrade?
HTH
Problem occured same day as upgrade... and now last night again.
Fortunately I made a backup of everything on the SD to my PC and have now just restored it.
I did not "label" the SD this time... just "locked" it.
See what happens this time.
Gang,
I've recently acquired at AT&T Branded SX56, been moderately happy, but can not complain about the price ($100 . However, twice now I've had the SD card get completely wiped. This is the SD card that came with the phone - it used to have some nice games and the MS software pack. It went bye-bye about two weeks ago. I thought it was a glitch, however, last night the card went blank on me again. All software, data, etc on the card is completely gone.
My question are: has anyone had this problem? Is this a known thing with the phone? Do I have a virus? Am I a blithering idiot that did something stupid (likely)? How do I keep this from happening again?
TIA
it's a known issue with some WM2003 versions ... what's yours ?
Try to keep the SD locked
that's $#%*#
my phone is wm2003, I guess I have to go get an SD card with a lock on it. The one that came with the phone does not. Any way to do a software "r/o" mode?
tia
one more thing
if it's a know problem with certain versions of wm2003 - what version should I get and install to keep this from happening?
tia
Nothing 100% confirmed but TMO 4.01.00 or AT&T 30.09 are said to be more stable
i have a similar proble; the unit didn't recognize the card once it was removed.
Does anyone have the files and can post so i can write on the sd?
Hello,
The same thing happened to me last week on my T-Mo MDA2 (Rom Version: 1.60.00WWE, ROM date: 12/03/03) but in my case I'm using a 128MB MMC with no hardware lock.
Any suggestions aside of using a lock enabled SD Card? (which I think it's dumb since I need to be constantly writing to the card)...
Regards,
Rayan
I used Kingston 512M SD card with ca. 200 M of MP3 files.
After removing of PocketMusic from MDA these files become invisible in Explorer as from desktop as and from mobile, despite new MP3s added to this card, were assigned to Windows Media.
Then I used SoftWinter StorageTools to format SD as FAT32/512Kps. Since formatting SD works well and I haven't any file lost.
May be this problem appears due to adding or removing some programs, associated with such files?
The weird thing is that some people report missing the files in the card but they know the files are still there because the memory space they used to take is still there, and others (my case) the card got totally wiped releasing all the memory space just as if it was just formated.
The only thing I can think of, in my case is that since the card was formated by a Palm Tungsten T2 (I could tell that because a friend lend it to me and he has a Palm and also I could see some Palm directories in the card) and I didn't formated before I used it on my MDA2. Do you think this may have caused the problem?
Thanks!
To solve this annoying problem do either(or both ) of the foillowing
1) Change the today theme to windows default (hard to believe i know but it works)
2) Using Storage Tools format the SD card to fat 32, with Backup Fat option ENABLED (you can change the theme back if you want after this)
I know its odd but i havent had this problem since then

The same happened to a friend of mine.
I suggest you to try Pocket Mechanic from http://www.antontomov.com, with this software you can format, verify and repair your storage cards. We did this and the card worked successfully after a Low Level Format and then a Logical Format.
Good Luck!
For the second time all the software on the SD card is gone??Did not do this myself, the card is clean and all the files are gone.
I did upgraded my wallaby to version 4. etc but dont think this is the problem. Could it be the card? maybe time for a replacement.
Any1 with answer?
Thanx
nop it's been reported ALOT! before with some if not all 4 roms for wallay
you can try use search to see if some versions dont suffer from it
or you can search to see if the 2003SE version from wallay also suffer from it or you can try it your self
sd card problems
ru using any screen savers?apart from windows default screen saver?
if using any other screen saver switch back to default windows screen saver.that should solve the problem.
its the issue with windows 2002 edition.
i tried all the tricks like formatting etc but only this worked finally and no problems since 2 years
expirienced that problem several times, solve it with the backup of an SD card on the HD of the computer and card reader.
Guys, i'm sorry I have to put up a new thread for this problem, but this is a very annoying problem for me, and i've made a search here, but there wasn't any solutions.
The problem is whenever the device's off, SD card reader wouldn't automatically read SD card unless I eject the card and put it back in again. I thought it's a common problem for EVERY WM6 ROM, but I tried PV_4.0.0.0.6_Touch ROM few weeks ago, it didnt have that problem at all, and I loved it, so I think there should be a solution for it right? Please tell me how to fix this problem on Gullum's Rom.. Please...
Thx
Try that reg tweak:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\SDCARD\ClientDrivers\Class\SDMemory_Class]
"DisablePowerManagement"=dword:0 ====> Change to "1"
I have HTC HD2:

android build..?
back up all your data from your sd card, then reformat your sd card and try again. I should work....
Yesterday i was helping my gf to install android on her hd2, i encountered exactly the same problem as you. Then reformat sd card, install android again. It works smoothly without any problem.
Hope it helps.
thx for advice...i try it...
I have the same Problem...
no matter what I do, it does not work
It always freeze or reboot new.
I have formatted my SD i think over 100 times
What i do wrong?
I have hspl2 and the newest Radio ROm, but it doesnt work
EDIT: I tried all Android builds noone works
Did you do a task29 to format internal memory, then install back energy rom. Only install android. Have you tried that?
@ whizzkid_cool
I dont understand, what is task29
And energy rom? is that a custom Rom?
Still Doesn't work....

Did you copy the complete Android directory (so not only the files) to the root of your SD card?
All you have to do is read
It could also be your SD card. I had exactly the same issue with an 8gb card I recently purchased. No matter how many times I formatted it I still couldn't get Android to run fully all the time.
I have since got a 4gb SD card and Android, all builds, now runs without any issues whatsoever.
Just a suggestion that it may not be something you're doing, or not doing, but an actual hardware issue!
You might also be making the same mistake I did.
When the guides on this forum said to copy the Android folder to the root of my SD card, I thought it was referring to the "/" directory that I saw in Windows Explorer. (What is actually the internal memory of the HD2)
I was putting Android in the wrong directory. I should have been copying it over to the Storage Card one, which is the actual MiniSD Card. That's the root directory.
Just a thought.
same problem...
Hey guys
i tried everything but i have the same problem
it´s only the green screen from HTC. I hope it is not the SDCard
I have the goatrip 6.0 final version and tried it with many Android builds, most of them were from Mdeejay
Please help me without android i think the hd2 is boring for me
