Just a logical guess: If I have 2 SIM cards on a BA, only the active SIM card will ring if a call is received, right?
yes, unless you divert one sim to the sim u use most of all.

Makes sense.
It is cheaper to divert a call to an international number than to receive a roaming call.

so i'm trying a fix a galaxy note att branded i717 note. my friend bought it craiglslist. here's what happens.
phone simply will not accept ANY att sim card. either "active" sim or fresh unactivated sim. same goes for tmobile sim cards. in both cases it will show "no sim/emergency calls only".
fine. i was under the impression that it should ask for some unlock code after inserting tmobile sim card, but it doesnt do that. clearly other MVNO sims didn't work either. note - both att and tmbole sims are 89014xxxxx
interestingly i had a foreign sim card (NON 89014xxxx....). => this works! instead of "no sim/emergency calls only", i simply get no service but no errors either!
WHAT is wrong with this phone? blacklisted? hardware fault? flash a different rom? any ideas?
Possible Sim card port damage...
A common problem with this device ....however, without knowing the history of the device, it becomes very difficult to diagnose...
But I'm leaning toward the Sim slot being damaged, as we have several threads on the subject ...g

well there's your problem, i hope you didn't spend too much on it.
I think he paid around 310. But the phone was in like new condition. If the SIM slot us damaged then why it would only reject tmob, att ones? It should reject every sim.
thx for ur responses. Appreciate it

I think I can help. Try resetting your phone, reinstalling the rom, or there is a bad thing going on with your phone. Are you sure itbis from AT&T? If the SIM card slots do not work, gently use a cloth to clean them. Is it a micro SIM card or did you cut a regular one down yourself? thank me if anything I mention fixes the problem.
hi, thanks everybody for posting. some strange things happening.
I tested two Tmobile MVNO (ultra and ptel) sim cards, both work! I didn't try simple mobile yet.
i found ONE tmobile and ONE at&t sim card that gets read properly. then i tried few other att/tmobile sim cards and they are rejected. !!!??!!!
I think i need to go the debug mode and change some settings there? *#197328640#
clearly sim slot is not broken. imei is not blocked.

The Verizon SCH-i545 is not SIM locked. I have had no problems whatsoever using European SIMs in mine.
There's a few possibilities - your SIM may be bad or unregistered. It's also possible that there's no band in the i545's hardware that matches the frequencies used in the country where you're trying this.
wondering what difference is running the watch via Bluetooth and running it sim card , aside of course the fact that you don't need to have your phone within proximity.
also wondering how this would work with a sim card when you leave your phone at home , does the sim have the same phone number as your current cell number ? kinda weird almost like a cloned sim card no ?

I was kinda wondering about how that works myself. I wouldn't want another line or number for my watch, but an extension of my phone. One number, 2 devices, is that possible?

I'd like to know this also. I'd imagine it'll belike the PS Vita. Use a simcard for 3G Data only.

It depends on your carrier if it allows, 1 number on2 devices is quite possible.
Sent from Galaxy Note 3 (The beauty & beast)
Id also like to know how this works too. I would love it to use the same number as my phone. :victory:
It is called Multi-SIM.
You get 1 MSISDN (tel no) but multiple IMSI (the registration number on the SIM card). Some internal routing makes it possible to receive calls and SMS on 1 SIM, but you can make calls and SMS on all SIMs.
At least that's how it works here in Malaysia.
The telco Maxis allows up to 6 IMSIs per MSISDN, 1 primary and 5 subs.

Although in Malaysia they may have multi sim carriers I work for bell mobility and I'm pretty confident in saying that in Canada and the usa none are multi sim carriers.
Here is how I think it will work, you get a new number on a standalone $10 plan or either on a $10 share plan with your phone line. Once the watch is disconnected from Bluetooth on the phone the phone will forward calls to the number on the watch.
Just a theory though won't know much until we get it

will it also forward emails and messeges?
I would think you would just set the email up on the gear s and the texts would be forwarded the same way calls are

Thx. Im hoping exchange Emails work.
I am wondering as well as I have Sprint with UCCI cards and not SIM card so how does this work when it's tied to a SIM card. Basically they would treat the gear S as a Tablet only plan. so instead of the 10$ for the tablet plan it's the gear S. And what happens when you go over your data minutes I'm unlimited on my Note 4 but it say's the gear S will come with 500mb a month I'm confused
Hey guys
Before hitting buy on one of these, can someone please explain to me how dual sim works? Preferably with some screenshots. This is going to be my first dual-sim phone
I understand dual sim dual standby, in that both sims can use 3G/4G but only one at a time. Do you decide which SIM is the main active one for data in software?
Thanks
Ive got the prime
I can choose Internet from sim 1 and call from sim 2

It is dual sim stand by. I used one sim on honor 7 to call another on the same phone and it worked.
Just slide another sim in and give the above method a try to make sure.

Yeah i know it is dual stand by so that means both sims cant be active at the same time, that is where im confused.
Are you using two sims for daily use?

Yep. Two sims all the time... Both sims are active and as I said, you can even use sim1 to ring sim2 in the same phone meaning even if you are in call at sim1 and someone calls you on sim2, it will ring and you will have the option to put sim1 on hold and receive sim2 call.
Hope my explanation makes sense
