As a result of a car accident I lost the ability to connect my Himalaya using the USB cradle. The data port on the phones board was completely smashed. I had it repaired only to allow my xdaII to recharge from it's power adapter but not from the cradle, that's how I lost all usb functionality.
Now I've previously read some methods and instructions on how to upgrade the xdaII using some modified rom files which are then stored on a SD-Card and then installed from the bootloader without the use of a USB connection.
Can anyone here tell me exactly how this is done ? What are the steps needed to convert the available rom files on this site to a format that would work from the sd-card ? I would also like to know, whether this method supports upgrading the radio and the extended rom in addition to the windows rom ?
Your help and assistance on this matter will be highly appreciated. As I can no longer upgrade my phone using the usb method. I will be depending on your help you guys. I've got faith in u, so don't let me down.
I also want to know it! Please help!!
Find another xda2 that has a working USB connection, insert your SD card in it, and use the attached file to copy the rom to your sd card. Then place the sd card in your xda2 go to boot loader mode and that is it.
The only problem is that whenever you want to change the rom version you will have to use another xda2 that has a working usb to transfere the rom image on your sd card.

Only way to flash from SD is when flashing a ROM dumped directly from the phone as a backup.. even then you needed USB to let your PC tell your Device to dump the backup to SD.. The dump data on the SD card cannot be read as files because its RAW data.. There is no way to extract that data to a ROM file and likewise no way to flash a ROM file available here or anywhere to the device through the SD card..
So in theory.. if you had 2 HTC Prophets you might be able to flash the 1 device through USB, Dump the ROM to SD and use that SD card to flash the 2nd device.. This is only in theory! Never tried it..
Curiously though.. if your USB port is damaged how do you charge it?
I can't get nandroid backup to see usb sd adpter to back up to sd do i need a driver or it just won't work Thanks
Never mind i got it
I'm saving multiple twrp backups and running out of room. If I save any on my desktop, can you restore your phone from one of those? What about from one of those micro usb phone flash drives? Would I need to install twrp on the flash drive itself, or just the backup?
Thanks

Yes you can use a backup stored on your computer or other storage device, and you only need the backup file itself.
Ok so this is what im trying to do... I want to backup TWRP backups and swift backups directly to my windows 7 pc but it seems the only way to do that is to have a USB device. I know i can backup to an actual USB device and copy or move it from there but i go thru otg cables like crazy and atm i dont have a WORKING one so i wanted to backup directly to pc. Is there a way to emulate a thumb drive on windows to connect it like that in situations like this?
It is not possible. You can only backup via TWRP to internal memory, external microsd or via usb.
Thank you. I appreciate that.
