I am on O2 user and have just upgraded from 1.60.00 to 1.72.00.
Since upgrading I find that when I receive single alerts in the start bar rather than getting the correct symbol (e.g. a message symbol if I get a text or a phone symbol for a missed call) I get the multiple alert speech bubble symbol instead. What actually happens is at the point the event happens the correct symbol appears and then it merges with the O2 symbol and becomes the speach bubble symbol. Any ideas how I can sort this? If I have to I'm happy to lose the O2 symbol all together as I can see that I need it!
It's only a small issue but it's becoming increasingly annoying and I would be very grateful if someone could suggest a fix.
Many thanks
David
go to the following folder on you PPC
"\Windows\Mobile Solutions\O2ActiveUI\Modules\Connections" and rename the connections.exe file (anythinig will do).
Then soft reset.
Thanks for the help.
I don't actually have a 'Mobile Solutions' folder in Windows. I did find "Windows\V2R\O2ActiveUI" In that I renamed O2ActiveUI and sure enough when I reset it the O2 branding had disappeared
However, I now get a warning message when the phone boots up complaining of the missing file. Can I stop it trying to load the O2 UI altogether?
First go back into file explorer and rename the file how it was before, then go to Start>Settings>System>Remove Programs and remove the O2Active software from there. You won't loose any phone/SMS/MMS functionality from the XDA by doing this, and as a bonus when you soft reset the device in the future you won't have to wait ages for the O2 software to load up. Hope this helps
It does help!
Thanks very much

Hi
Using a recently purchased used Xda (64mb version). Trying to amend settings for Ornage SIM (machine was supplied already unlocked) the screen froze. Have tried soft and hard resets but nothing. All I have is the Microsoft Pocket PC 2002 screen which doesn't react to anything it appears. Even the battery light doesn't flash although I have fully charged it. Any offers of help out there??
Did you have the xda working with your orange sim? Have you tried unscrewing the top of the stylus and pushing it once in to the hole at bottom right of your xda, then wait one minute and press one time again? You will lose all data.
Yes, I had it working quite well with Orange. Had web browser plus using POP 3 to receive all incoming e mails. Couldn't send e mails though, hence trying to change seetings which is when it all went wrong. Tried soft reset first, followed by hard reset but still nothing other than the welcome screen
And this happens even with the sim removed? Sorry I should have asked that before. It seems to be exhibiting radio stack problems, but if you havent messed with that I dont know if its possible for it to corrupt spontaneously.
Yu, happens with SIM removed

Ive had this tmobile mda for about a year and it was telling me that its memory was dangerously low or something. so i told it to clear all text messages cause there was like 5000. i figured it would take a half a day or so and i just left it. after a day it was still lagging and pretty much not responding or answering calls or texts or anything so i pulled out the battery to reset it. when i put the battery back in every soft key short cut button i pushed resulted in error message saying, error opening the shortcut or locating the target filename. when i enter the start menu everything is gone except for 'today', 'calupd', and 'coldinit'. all of these are dead shortcuts. its like all the memory of the phone (pocket windows) is gone. how do i go about trying to fix it. i can 'explore' on microsoft activesync, but it tells me when i tried to upgrade the software, that it is not connected.
even a nudge in the right direction would be helpful
Try to Hard Reset your device after backing up.
Punching Reset hole (Next to IR window) while holding CommManager and VoiceDial, then you will be presented a black screen with white text, press "Dial" to wipe all user data.
I've searched this a little but haven't really found any sort of solution to this relatively simple problem. My Touch Pro works great overall, but after I use Opera, whenever I want to open a different program, open Opera again, or essentially open any window, the phone hangs with the WM symbol in the middle (just thinking). It eventually goes away, and fails to execute whatever I want it to open. A soft reset brings it back to good, but that is a pain when you have to do it 5-7 times a day to make ur phone work. Is there anything in the registry perhaps I should be checking? I feel as though memory is being dumped somewhere after a program is used and it is clogging the phone. Any insight would be great. Thanks!
Hello,
Looking for help with a strange and sporadic problem.
95% of the time when I start a new text message (includes replying to other messages in a thread), the first letter of the first word I type disappears almost immediately after I type. If I retype the letter, it remains and I can continue typing normally.
I've gotten to the point where I double tap the first letter on every new message but it's an annoyance.
Also, I have another sporadic problem with my text messaging screen closing in the middle of typing out a new message.
I hope someone can help.
I did a hard reset and after no problems I started by installing cabs one by one. The problem started after the first install. > SPB Shell 3.0
I have further found the issue only occurs when the phone goes to sleep. The first time you try to type a message after waking the phone up, the first letter of the message disappears and you have to double tap it to continue. All messages after that type in fine unless you let the phone go back to sleep, then the very first message after that has the same problem again.
Any help would be appreciated.
Ah well. I was able to find a solution. I figured I would update the thread in case anyone else had the same problem in the near future.
Solution: Upgrade to the Spb Mobile Shell 3.0.1 beta-version Whatever the bug was is now fixed in the newer version.
Disregard
Disregard. Problem came back about as quickly as it went away.
I have further realized the problem only occurs when the following 3 conditions exist:
1/ SPB Mobile Shell is installed.
2/ SMS messaging in threaded conversation mode.
3/ Only when the messaging has been completely shut down. If the conversation window has been closed and reopened, everything is still fine. It is only when the messaging has been completely shut down.
With all the knowledgeable brains here, I thought someone might have a suggestion or solution. :-(
It has nothing to do with shell...I dont have that onb my phone and mine does that every once in a while
Hmmm of all issues i thought this would be the easiest to find solution, but seems to still be apparent

what kind of rom it is?
I have this problem too.. Just letting the community know if it's any extra inspiration to keep attacking this bug.
I have an issue that I think calls for as clean of a wipe as I can do, and start again with Factory Settings. But I will take any advice anyone may have for me.
The problem I am having is caused, I've read, because I put it in Developer Mode when I first bought it. On powering on, I get the page that says OS Verification is "OFF". Then beeps twice, and flashes a black text box, but in upper, left corner. The screen disappears and the next screen appears. It happens fast enough that I can't read the text that may be an error code, I don't know.
That next screen just shows the Chrome logo, then onto the login, and then I'm in.
I read I could change the OS Verification to "on" but I can't because of the unknown text I mention above. I was able to update , but that didn't change the OS Verification screen, the message upper left still appeared, and verification still "OFF".
I did a Powerwash, but that didn't put it back to Factory Settings like I would like as I have thought about getting it cleaned off and giving it to a friend that has no computer. But first, I need to make sure it's actually going to work for her, as good as I can get it to work. I'm thinking the Developer Mode is the issue, and that loud beeping was the first thing that was driving me nuts on reboots. Then I started learning about the Developer Mode, and felt turning it off was best for the CB and I really don't need it. I don't need to side-load, or have it able to load "apps from unknown sources".
I guess I wrote a book, but needed to find someone that "gets" what I'm talking about because I looked all weekend for answers
Thanks in advance for any help
PS that text says something about "gbb.flag in nonzero read-only firmware, id google celes, then some #s and active firmware". That's just all I could get by powering down and up again and reading what I could each time ;(
