Installing tomtom5 on sd card only ? - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 ROM Development

I have jsut installed Tomtom 5 on my wm2005 xda2 following instructoins found on this forum, however, you have to put certain files on your device (program files and my documents) folders.
I want to install this so that the whole thing is situated on my sd card. Is this possiible?
If so, what folders do you need to create etc, i've tried the obvious ones, like creating a program files and my documents folder on the sd card but as the path is known as \storage card\program files it didn't work
Any advice would be helpful... :/

8) Hi
i installed tt5 no problem. WM2005 ask`s you where you want to install.
the only thing is the zip folder needs to be on the device.
Works fine without postal codes.
:roll: Would be nice if someone could configure tomtom 5 to see zip folder on sd card? :wink:

strange coz my zip folder is on my sd card along with my map.
I could not install tomtom 5 using the installer as it kept crashing when trying to access activesync 4 so had to manually install it by extracting the cab and copying the files manually to the device folders program files and my documents.

something dodgy found regarding SD cards?

Hi,
I upgraded to the 4.01.00 build of 2003. I decided after a bit that I missed the stuff I could add in from the kitchen and also for some reason when I tried to install something to the SD card it would just create a cab file on the card... So I manually started the cab installer from the location and it automatically installed the software into main memory?
I went back to a new brew of yorch's kitchen using 4.00.16 with hopes that this would be resolved...
I dont seem to have any problems accessing the SD card.. the data is transfered over fine... although I set Activesync to use the sd card it only ever copies the cab file and then shows the program not installed.... if I go to the SD card I can see and run the cab file copied over by activesync... but it only copies it to memory
I thought cab files installed relative to your current location (i.e) you run an install from the SD.. it gets installed to the SD.. run it from the main memory and it gets installed to the main memory.. etc.
But I'm totally confused as to why activesync refuses to install anything onto the SD card itself.
Has anyone else recieved this problem? know how to fix it? any ideas?
currently it appears I can only use the SD card for music/files or whatever I want to store rather than install other programs...
cheers for any help,
Ian.
I would uninstall your current version of activesync and install version 3.7.1. If you have 3.7.1, I would do a reinstall. It sounds like the issue isn't your SD card or the ROM that is loaded.
upps, on my XDA I everything works fine ...
I mean installing software to SD card and running the software from SD card, others things are not that smooth .... but the above mentioned is ok
I do use WM2003, version 4.0.21 T-Mobile ROM
regards,
monika
Just thought I'd add how I fixed the problem...
I stopped using this
http://www.iliumsoft.com/site/fg/dockware.htm
everytime I hard reset my device the first thing I'd do was install 3 programs...
Iliumsoft Dockware Pro
Tillanosoft Small Menu Plus
Omega One Battery Pack 2004
On that build (4.01.00) of the ROM Dockware would pretend to install by activesync... but it wouldnt even copy over or anything...
After doing that, the rest of the software would follow straight into main memory whither I asked it to or not.... the exception to this case was a few programs like Resco explorer and a few games that did install to the card.
Everything else just copied the cab files over to the sd card.. and then when you installed the cab files from there, they went into main memory.
So.... I hard reset the device and didnt install DockWare at all.... every piece of software installs fine now without a hitch...
Strange huh?
MOTD: dont use Dockware on later builds of 2k3 heh

EsmertecJBed on Storage Card?

I downloaded Cloudyfa's EsmertecJBed and tried to install it on Storage Card, but whether I choose to install it either in Main Memory or Storage Card, it always keep installing in Main Memory.
In order to fix this, I modified the registry settings of the .CAB with WinCE CAB Manager, and now it works fine. It creates /Storage Card/Program Files/EsmertecJBed folder and Appdb folder inside it (where JAVA apps will be installed).
So installation of the program goes OK. But when I try to install .jar it reports "Not enough space" error and stops.
If I create Appdb folder in /Windows folder, installation goes OK, but then aplications will store to Main Memory – and that wasn't idea from the beggining.
Can someone help with this?

Flashing ????????

I just recently got the startrek or 3125 and i was looking at the wiki on how to cid unlock it but i follow all the instructions but still i eather get lost or dont know what to do anymore can anyone help
please
try flasing using micro sd card
make sure your micro sd card is formatted to fat32.
download surrealnetworksappunlock.cab and run on your phone.
download your rom of choice to your pc.
(open the rom with winrar and you should see 2 folders, 1 named ruu and 1 named sspl)
open the ruu folder and extract the file ruu_signed.nbh to your desktop.
open the sspl folder and extract the files jumpspl.exe, spl.nb and spl (shortcut) to your desktop.
copy the jumpspl.exe, spl.nb and spl shortcut to your root directory on your device (not the storage card)
on your desktop, rename the ruu_signed.nbk file to starimg.nbk
copy the starimg.nbk file to the root of your storage card.
run the spl shortcut (it is the 36 bit file) from your phones root directory, your will get a prompt that the phone is searching the sd card, then select that you want to replace the os. should only take 20-30 sec, restart the phone when it prompts you.
fyi, you can have multiple nbk images on your card, just create a folder for your images, make sure to name the images accordingly, ie.. starimgwm6 or starimgwm6.1 etc...
then when you are bored or feel the need to change your os, just rename the image to starimg, place it on the root of the sd card and swap os's to your hearts content.
you can use the same process to change radios as well.
Hi, I also just got a used 3125, but no data cable. I used the SD Flash method to update to the last official Cingular ROM with no problems.
I've wanted to flash to the wm6 or wm6.1 roms here, but without the data cable I thought I was out of luck. Does the method you describe above work on all of these "unofficial" ROMs?
Just wanted a better explaination of what you meant by:
download your rom of choice to your pc.

The SD Flash thread specifically said only official ROM could be flashed from SD Card.
rom choice
has worked for me.
Great. I will try tonight.
I see that the two WM6.1 roms come only as "clean" versions... has anyone made a "Cingular OEM" version of wm6.1? If I use the "clean" ROM, what would I need to do to fully use the phone on Cingular network (USA)?
Lewnetoons - hows the PPC version on the 3125? Do you find youself using fakecursor alot, or only on PPC specific applications?
ppc version
It a little tricky to navigate sometimes, but not bad, after the first couple of days u get used to it, I really don't use it that much (the cursor that is)
I would suggest speeding up the cursor movement with the settings, it moves a little slow with the basic settings.
The nice thing is it runs most ppc and smartphone apps, a few don't work but most do with no problem.

thanks but this dint work i did everything correct and all it got to is were it looks in the sd card but the goes to the bootloader screen and it just stay there until i restart it
is there anyother way to upgrade it
storage card
not that I am aware of, if the renamed nbk file is on the root of the storage card it should work.
Just flashed to wm6.1 using the instructions in post #2. Worked exactly as stated. I thought I had to wait for a datacable to Flash, but this microSD card flashing is perfect.
Thanks!!

[Q] gtab erases some music files leaves others

i put a 32 gb micro card in the tab after loading about 2gb of music on it, it found the card then only recognized about ten files while either deleting or replacing the remaining files with numbered files that come up as unreadable format. i have placed a folder labeled no media but that seems not to work. even sent it back to viewsonic and they reset it to factory ( i did that also) sent it back and it stil does it . any suggestions would be appreciated. its a stock gtab no mods
This is a known issue on some mods, although I didn't know stock also suffered from this problem. You need to create a file named ".nomedia" and place it in either the root directory, or the directory where you store your media. Note that you cannot create this file in Windows. Mac or linux may be able to, but the easiest way is to use a file explorer like ES File explorer, which has the ability to create a file.
thanks for the tip
i will give it a try and let you know what happened,
nope not working
tried as you advised , made a .nomedia file reloaded the sd card put it in wanting the world and the same thing happened. all but a few files were left and then there were 20 to 30 numbered files where there used to be mp3 folders.plus if i select one of these files it says unable to open this file type

sygic maps on external sd ICS

hello guys i followed this guide trying to put the sygic maps on external sd but it didnt work. i am thinking that it is cause of ICS. i am currently running hydrogenics. here is the guide i followed:
Code:
1. Install Sygic GPS Navigation on your Android phone.
2. Start the Sygic Download application and download your favorites maps.
3. After download is completed close the Sygic Download application and connect your phone in USB storage mode to a PC.
4. On the PC side, move all content except database.xml and base-is-ok.txt from Aura folder on the internal phone memory to a folder called Aura on the external_sd card.
So after this process on the internal phone memory should be a folder called Aura with 2 files in it: database.xml and base-is-ok.txt and on the external_sd card in the Aura folder should be all the files needed by Sygic.
5. Make a back-up copy of database.xml then open it with Notepad editor. You will see that the file is pretty consistent. While in Notepad press CRTL+H and the find and replace option appears.
In the Find what field write:Aura/
In the Replace with write:external_sd/Aura/
Now press Replace All then Save the file (CTRL+S).
6. Disconnect storage from PC and start Sygic GPS Navigation. The program should start with no problem.
Make sure to not start Sygic Download application after this process as it will erase everything from the external_sd and will re-download the maps to internal phone memory. If you want new maps you have to start the process all over again or move the maps to a temporary folder, start Sygic Download, download new maps, and repeat the whole process from step 3.
If something goes wrong and your Sygic GPS Navigation application is not working or you just want to go to default program folders you can always delete the Aura folder from internal phone memory and external sd card but be aware you’ll lose all the downloaded maps.
Or without loosing the downloaded maps, you can move the content of Aura folder from the external sd card back to Aura folder on the internal phone memory, delete database.xml file, restore the back-up file and everything should be fine.
Ask Sygic support. Since you paid for the app/maps, they'll be happy to help.
sygic has no information, they said try to uninstall the app and install it again, it should detect the aura directory but it didn't
I do it in my I9003 with RemICS (4.0.4), and Sygic dont work.
Sygic dont open.
You MUST copy navi files to internal memory card, not external.
succes
You may have them on external sd card with ICS but it's a little strange.
I looked at the file settings.ini in the folder Android of the folder Aura on the internal memory.
There is 3 settings for the maps : RessourcePath, MapsPath and ContentsPath
The 3 are set to relative path from this folder to go to the folder Aura/Maps and Aura/Res
I modified them to go to the relative path where I put my maps on the external sd ie up to aura, up to sdcard, up to mnt then down to external sd, down to aura and Maps or Res
It works perfectly on my ics device.
So happy I was
I tried to do the same on my android 2.3.1 device, a samsung mini 2 and it don't work, although the path is correct. More strange, when I use relative paths, I got the sygic logo and initialization" than nothing. When I use absolute path, black screen.
So be careful

I'll give you a step-by-step guide on how to do this. I did it on android 4.0.4 (ICS), so I don't know if it'll work on any other version of android.
First, you will need a file manager (like ES File Explorer), and you will need to know the path of your external sd card.
There are two options that I know, and I'll tell you what to do for those options. If the path is different, just adjust accordingly.
The external sd card path could be something like:
a) /emmc/ -> I have this on CM9
b) /storage/sdcard1/ -> I have this on CM10
c) /sdcard/external_sd/ -> I think this is for the stock rom
The path of the internal card will be /sdcard/
Now, go to your external sd card from your file manager, and create a folder called 'Aura'.
Then go to your internal card, then to the folder 'Aura', and move the folders 'Res' and 'Maps' to the 'Aura' folder you just created on your external sd card.
Finally, you have to go to your internal sd card, then to the folder 'Aura' and then to 'Android'. There you'll find a file called 'settings.ini'. Open it in your explorer and use a text editor (if you are using ES File Explorer, then when you click on the file, choose ES Text Editor to open it).
Once opened, look for 'ResourcePath', 'MapPath' and 'ContentPath'.
You will see something like this:
Code:
ResourcePath=/../Res
MapPath=/../Maps
ContentPath=/../Maps
Now, you will have to change these values to the relative path to your external sd card.
If your external sd card's path is one of this:
a) /emmc/
b) /storage/sdcard1/
c) /scard/external_sd/
Just use the instructions bellow. Otherwise, adjust accordingly.
For a) you'll have to change the values to this:
Code:
ResourcePath=/../../../emmc/Aura/Res
MapPath=/../../../emmc/Aura/Maps
ContentPath=/../../../emmc/Aura/Maps
For b):
Code:
ResourcePath=/../../../sdcard1/Aura/Res
MapPath=/../../../sdcard1/Aura/Maps
ContentPath=/../../../sdcard1/Aura/Maps
And for c), to this:
Code:
ResourcePath=/../../external_sd/Aura/Res
MapPath=/../../external_sd/Aura/Maps
ContentPath=/../../external_sd/Aura/Maps
Hope this helps.
thanks
thanks bro it worked for me but i am also at cm9 b2 and my directory is not emmc but mnt/external_sd/Aura and thats works fine thank you
It took me almost two days to make this work but it finely works on my Note 2. Here are the steps. They are based on the instructions above but just a bit different.
On the Note2, the internal (built-in) SD card shows up as "sdcard" under root. The external SD card shows up as /storage/extSdCard (you can also navigate to it using this path /mnt/extSdCard).
After the initial installation, there will be three directories under Aura/on your internal SD card: Android, Maps, and Res. There will be also two files there: base-is-ok.txt and database.xml.
1. Make backup copies of database.xml and Android/settings.ini. You will be making changes to both of them.
3. On the external SD card create a directory called Aura (root of the SD card).
2. Move Maps and Res directories to /Aura/ on the external SD card. Leave the Android directory and the two files under Aura on the internal SD card (Android, base-is-ok.txt, and database.xml remain where they are - on the internal SD card).
3. Using Notepad++ or a similar editor, open database.xml on the internal SD card and replace all occurrences of Aura/Maps and Aura/Res with mnt/extSdCard/Aura/Maps and mnt/extSdCard/Aura/Res. No leading /.
4. Using Notepad++, open Android/settings.ini on the internal SD card and change these lines:
ResourcePath=/../Res
MapPath=/../Maps
ContentPath=/../Maps
to
ResourcePath=/../../../extSdCard/Aura/Res
MapPath=/../../../extSdCard/Aura/Maps
ContentPath=/../../../extSdCard/Aura/Maps

Have Galaxy S2 but there is not Aura folder
I have Sygic folder and there is not database.xml and base-is-ok.txt fils?!!
how to manage to work from SD card?
What version of Sygic are you running? Did you try to search for those two files in case your installation was different. Did you try to edit the settings.ini file in the Android directory?

Files are in /sdcard/Sygic.
That's strange; mine is the same version. Try to uninstall, clean up all directories, make sure all directories are gone and reinstall.

Sygic 12.1.3 working with SGS2
1. Install and open Sygic (12.1.3) and wait for the download ("\Sygic\Res" folders will be created)
2. Move your "Maps" folder to a folder called "Sygic" in your external SD card
3. Edit the file "settings" from the internal SD card (\Sygic\Android) and change the paths:
With ROM 4.0.3:
; Path to folder with Maps
MapPath=/../../external_sd/Sygic/Maps
; Path to folder with Content Informations (content.info, content.lic, footprint.info)
ContentPath=/../../external_sd/Sygic/Maps
With ROM 4.1.2:
; Path to folder with Maps
MapPath=/../../../extSdCard/Sygic/Maps
; Path to folder with Content Informations (content.info, content.lic, footprint.info)
ContentPath=/../../../extSdCard/Sygic/Maps
