Hi over
I still have the same problem, my xda was all right when I tried to install an eglish version of the radio that works only in englang and eire, because I was planning to go abroad then, it broke down, I mean : the batery doesn't charge, I did a reset from that time it works only on the cradle or in rhe charger, it shows an old version of OS that dates :
may 2002, the phone doesn't work, it's very slow and it resets by itself.
My frend have an Imate I copied all what was in his device in an sd card within windows, it shos now some programs but still not recognized by ActivSync : 3.7.1,3.8, 4.1 versions.
could you help me please?
yours faithfully!
Looks like your Radio stack is broken. The radio stack also handle the charging process.
Isa your phone part still working?
When you´re doing a softreset, what Versions are displayed in the lower right corner?
If you just get the ROM Version and nor Radio Version you could try this:

Stefan
Well!
the phone is not working, the dialog box is asking if I wanna turn it on I am answering yes but it won't go on.
the displayed version number -in the biggining- is 3 12 like that, and the date when it enteres OS is 20 May 2002. it's takining long time to respond, as I aline the screen to work with the stylus and try to configure some tasks and programs just for try, because it still doesn't connect to the pc, it reset by itself, then its always displaying the same version 3 12, the radio setting messages says : radio off, gprs off, phone off.
I think the operating system is seeking some files, because some programs displays a message like this: no application is associated with this program, run the application from it's location the try again.
but I don't know how to install the operation system because the device can not connect to the pc,
I haven't tried the wallaby special radion method.

They basically told me you guys over here at this forum are more intelligent in this area. I've searched this forum and couldn't find any solutions to this problem so I have posted this message with hope that it will be solved.
Here is a copy of my message I posted on www.clubimate.com
ORIGINAL: dhilgaertner
This is absolutely rediculous. After upgrading to 1.66 my iMate has stopped working entirely. After talking to iMate support on 4 different occasions, I've gotten the same responce over and over.
Here it is:
Dear Mr. Dustin,
Regarding the online chat, please find below the necessary steps to reload your device with the ROM image.
1. Make sure your I-mate Pocket PC is not connected to the PC
2. On your Desktop PC, open Microsoft ActiveSync, then go to File > Connection Settings > Remove the Selection from “Allow USB Connection… “
3. Make sure your Device is on Boot loader Screen* (start up screen)
4. Reconnect your I-mate Pocket PC to the Desktop PC using the USB Cradle and the Charger MUST be Connected to the Cradle ( Don’t use the IrDA for the Upgrade )
5. Run the Upgrade again and it will work fine without any problems
*Boot loader Screen – Hold the navigator button (round button in the middle of the answer/hang up buttons) and do a Hard Reset (Hold the power on/off button while pressing the small whole button on the bottom left of the device) simultaneously.
For any clarifications/queries, please do fell free to contact us and we shall be glad to be of assistance to you.

Each time I've replied with "I've already done that and it still doesn't work. The rom update errors when it tries to update the radio image. Then it doesn't complete the rom update and the imate still doesn't work. No matter what I do or what version I try to update to it always gives me an error during the rom update. I can't even get into my phone anymore. I now have a $850 paper weight and tech support that isn't even worth a dime. I've talked with Ali and Karl at iMate Support both were unhelpful and eager to get me off the line. Ali even told me to call him tomorrow because he had to go home!!!! You call that tech support?
Now for the last time here is my problem:
[ul]
[*] My iMate will not boot past the blue screen.
[*] I've followed the steps above of disabling usb on activesync and installing rom
[*] 30 Minutes into the rom install (right where it starts doing the radio update) it errors.
[*] The error comes from the rom setup, not the imate, not activesync.
[*] The error tells me to do the above steps and try the rom update again.
[*] Once again the radio part of the rom update fails and tells me to try again.
[*] Infinite Loop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
[/ul]
I apologize for being angry, but this device is crucial to my job and is costing me thousands of dollars in lost sales and marketing revenue while it doesn't operate.

When you run the ROM update, are you still trying to run the 1.66.131 ROM? If so, you might want to try the 1.52.113 ROM to see if you can at least get your device back.
When the Radio update failed how far did it get into the Radio update, (what percentage?)
I had a similar problem when trying to downgrade, the Radio failed at 12%, (which I was told was a security feature)... either way, what I did was in this...
1.66.131 - Update, (which worked for me)
1.03.00 - Downgrade (which failed at the radio stack and would not boot)
I then went into bootloader, (reset, power, up) and you should see Serial/USB 1.01 screen...
Then put the device in the cradle and ran the 1.52.113 'update' and the device was fine (back to 1.52.113)
I had a similar problem were the upgrade failed part way through updating the Radio stack (after the Erase).
Fortunatly the main ROM had upgraded OK and I simply hard reset and started again.
Some things I have noticed:
1) Never leave the PC unattanded - stop it from going into screen saver
2) Make sure all programs are shut down on the PC - Too much activity causes my USB ActiveSync link to close
3) Close Firewall software - I use ZoneLabs and the upgrade hates it
Just a few things to try
The other thing you can try is performing the ruu when the device is in Bootloader. Press and hold power, the Actio key (in the middle of the Joystick) and soft reset.
Connect your device to the PC and run the ruu update.
That should work.
Where do I get a RUU for iMates? iMates website doesnt have one.
Also the radio stack update fails at the beginning of the erasing part, it is still at 0% when it errors.
The clubimate site does have the RUU for both 1.66.131 and for 1.52.113, goto Tools\Device\iMates\Full Device etc...
Its towards the bottom...
Yes that is the same update that gives me the error when I get to the Radio stack part of the update. It leaves me with a 1.66 rom and a blank radio and protocol version (if you were to look in device information).
??
Did you recently get your device? Did it come with 1.66.131. if not, then this really should have worked; unless there is something actually wrong with your device? Did you possibly put a different ROM on before the 1.66.131 like a TMobile, or MDA or O2 rom, or a 1.60.x derivative?
Also, you could try this....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=7384&highlight=
This is a link to the ORIGINAL ROM 1.03.00, but this DOES NOT work for me, but it did get as far as erasing the Radio Stack, (maybe if it can erase yours the other updates will be able to continue)....
Upgrade fails during radio upgrade
I had this same problem when I was upgrading my O2 Rom. Now, I have had just about every possible ROM on my system and have had to revert back to the original and before being able to install and upgrade a few of them.
Assuming you have done all of this, I did have success with a phased upgrade. The upgrade executable creates a folder in the temp directory. I moved this folder to my desktop and launched the upgrade program directly from my desktop but each time only putting one rom file in the directory. There are three (One for extender, OS, and Radio) By doing it one ROM at a time I was able to have success.
Just another idea.

Hello,
I recently acquired an i-mate and before doing anything, decided to perform a ROM upgrade. It started with ROM version 1.66.00WWE and Radio version 1.10.00. I followed all the instructions on the clubimate website. The ROM upgrade (Step 1) went well, until I started the English Language customization (step 2). That program froze on my computer and left the i-mate in bootloader mode, even before starting the Extended ROM upgrade for the customizations. When trying to upgrade the main 1.72 ROM again, it gets stuck at the Radio Stack Upgrade (to version 1.14) at 14%, then either exits with no message (Win XP), or gives a Radio Stack Upgrade error message (Win 98 ME). The phone meanwhile says that it is perfuming the radio stack upgrade and to please wait. Waiting for an hour yielded no change. The following is the log file entries of the part for the Radio Stack upgrade:
03:06:42 Connection with USB
03:07:52 Begin Stage 4
03:08:22 Radio Erase retry 1
03:08:59 Radio Erase retry 2
03:09:15 Stage 4 Complete
03:09:15 Begin Stage 5
03:09:15 Write block1
03:09:26 Write block2
03:09:32 Write block3
03:10:08 Radio Update data retry 1
03:10:16 Write block4
03:10:24 Write block5
03:10:32 Write block6
03:10:40 Write block7
03:10:49 Write block8
03:11:25 Radio Update data retry 2
03:12:01 Radio Update data retry 3
I tried many times, but get the same result. I followed all advice on this forum and searched all over for solutions, from getting the device into bootloader mode (power button + action button + reset), making sure that my PC does not have any other USB device connected, that the only programs running are the upgrade utility and ActiveSync 3.7.1, etc.
I also notice it takes approx 1 hour from start of upgrade until the Radio Stack Upgrade, instead of the advertised 30 minutes. Someone mentioned that this Radio Stack Upgrade problem may be caused by a security feature on the Radio Stack ROM preventing the installation of older versions. However, I am installing the newest (ver 1.14), so this should not be a problem. With a hunch, I decided to try the English Language Customization (1.72.800) upgrade again, and the extended ROM upgrade worked, but still no Radio Stack. So now I ave everything upgraded, but a blank Radio Stack.
Now when performing a hard reset, I get the blue screen with "i-mate" written on it. In the bottom right only the version of the ROM "D 1.72.00 WWE" is shown, but it says "No GSM" right above it. It takes approx. 15 minutes to boot (with blue Bluetooth LED flashing), then goes through the screen alignment and intro procedure. After that, it installs customization and boots again. It takes another 15 minutes to boot and the phone functions only as a PDA. Even a soft reset takes 15 minutes (with Bluetooth LED flashing). I tried upgrading again after that, but no use. Going to "Device Information", I see the versions of ROM and Extended ROM, but the Radio and Protocol are blank.
I tried phased upgrading, where I would include the main ROM upgrade file into to the directory where the archive was extracted, then extended ROM, then radio stack. Everytime the radio stack upgrade failed (i.e. stuck at 14%), I would try to upgrade that part only, since all others upgraded successfully.
I am really out of options. Any help would be highly appreciated.
Thanks!
I asked Carrier Devices (clubimate) about this step 2 because on the official download page all I saw was the step 1, no step 2 and no link to download.
The answer I got was there is no english customization 800, only a beta. The customization or step2 would be presented for arabic or telstar etc based on your IMEI # not for english it is contained in the first .exe
So you MUST have got this 800 customization and maybe the main upgrade from on here because it was never on the offical download page. Only the BETA from the FTP which some hacked into on clubimate and posted on here.
Go to the official download page on clubimate (register if you havn't) and dowload the official .exe upgrade (one file) and see if it will run. Don't get it from here.
RUU172126WWE_imate.exe
Hard reset a couple times and that should be it. The upgrade does take a LONG time to do.
If that does not work, you might have to do a warranty repair, I would use the online chat support on clubimate, just watch for when they are online and ask. I don't think you can just flash the radio portion.
I find 1.72 VERY stable and fast. Good luck!
Hmm.. All files were downloaded from the official clubimate website (I had to register in order to download). Talking to customer support, they were aware of the Step 2 customization file on their site (they recommended it, too). I doubt I downloaded hacked ones.
Still a loss on what to do, other than take it to a service center, that is (anybody do that? was it expensive? took too long?).
I tried a suggestion where I extracted the Radio Stack ROM upgrade file from version 1.66 and installing it separately. Still stops at 14%. I also tried a full reflash back to 1.66, but also same result. Took it to an i-mate service center nearby, was surprised that they didn't even know how to put the i-mate into bootloader mode (I had to show them)! All they could do was try reflashing using the same utilities we use (still no luck). They said that anything more elaborate would require sending it to Dubai. So much for "service" center. So, no luck there, either.
Also tried to reflash to the orginal 1.00 ROM with 1.05 Radio: The upgrade utilitiy that came with that version won't go past the small "please wait...." screen. Just sits there.
Really sad. I didn't even use this phone (figured that the best start is to perform a ROM upgrade). I'm not that impressed with how fragile ROM upgrading is (and I am careful with using only official releases). I thought after the Wallaby, things would be more robust. Maybe I shold dump this thing and get an HP h6300 series.
Note that I managed to successfully upgrade to 1.72 at least once. It was only when trying the 1.72.800 customization did things start to go south.
Also, does it matter whether the SIM card is in the phone or not while upgrading? Instructions are not clear, although they did mention that the phone will behave as if it is out of area.
Another question (desperate and a long shot, maybe stupid), Do SIM cards from say T-Mobile have an effect on i-mate phone Radio Stack ROM (i.e. lock it, etc.?)
ANY help would be appreciated!
i-mate and bootloader
I just got to see the problem as I am going through the same search for answer. How to get to the stage of bootloader? Somehow I feel that the device has crashed: While I was trying to install the upgrade RUU172126WWE_imate, my laptop, and for some odd reason, shut itself down, then auto restarted. The i-mate from that point on did not respond and in fact all lights on the device went blackout. I tried soft and hard resets but to no avail. I even removed the battery for several hours and when I re-installed it, all what it gave me was the word i-mate (but no backlight). Any advise on how I can get the device functional again.
Thank you.
Put your device in bootloader (press the Jog button and the Power button at same time and press the reset switch). Place it in the cradle and re-run the upgrade. That should work OK.
Jog
Thanks for the quick reply.
Power and reset button I know, but I am not familiar with the Jog button on the i-mate (Pocket PC PE). Appreicate your help.
Its the multi-directional button in the middle at the bottom. Press it straight down.
Hello,
I am new to this site, and also to WM based phones. I have run several searches on the forums for this problem and spent at least 3 hours today trying to run through the results, but I haven't found an answer that fits my circumstances. If the answer is on the forums, please forgive me, but I probably missed it because most posts start with one topic and become something entirely different within 5-12 pages.
So I have a Cingular 8525 with these stats:
Rom Version: 1.34.502.1
ROM Date: 9/21/06
Radio Version: 1.16.0.0
Protocol Version: 32.53.7018.01H
Windows Mobile 5.0
I am working from a Windows XP Pro, SP2 box with ActiveSync 4.5 installed.
I downloaded 2 different update packages. The first was the latest shipped ROM, the second was the official Windows Mobile 6 upgrade. I have a USB cable attached to a USB 2.0 port. This is what happens when I try to upgrade with either program (I have done this both with the SIM card in and without it in):
Method 1:
I connect the 8525 to the USB cable and run ActiveSync. It connects and syncs, then I run the Upgrade program I downloaded. It starts up, then I lose the ActiveSync connection to the 8525. A second or so later, I get the rainbow color bands across the screen and it sits there. The program gets to the part about how you might brinck your phone, and I continue with the upgrade process. It gets to the part where it is supposed to check for the phone's current ROM, and it shows a blank instead of the ROM's version.
Method 2:
I start the upgrade program, then when it gets to the part about connecting your 8525, I connect it to the USB cable, then run ActiveSync. After it syncs, I continue with the process. This lets me avoid the problem with the rainbow screen and it identifies the current ROM on the phone. I continue the upgrade process, and it gets to the part where it is supposed to begin actually doing the upgrade. Then the program says that there is a USB connectivity problem, error 260. It gives me the option to reset the 8525 and see if it recovers correctly (which it always does), then try again, but I get the same effect.
I can't figure out what to do, and any help would be greatly appreciated!
An Update:
On the rainbow screen, it says:
HERM100
IPL-1.01
HERM100
SPL-1.11
USB
Ok, this time I downloaded the latest update from HTC and ran it again. I got the same result as method 1, but even though it didn't show the existing ROM version, I let it run and it actually did update!
I now how WM 5 (still) and:
ROM Version: 2.15.502.3
ROM Date: 04/09/07
Radio Version: 1.40.30.00
Protocol version: 32.73.7020.16H
So far so good, but man that startup tone is LOUD! I am guessing that there was either a problem with the first upgrade I downloaded, or I just chickened out and didn't let the upgrade continue when I didn't see what I expected...
Hope this helps someone else!
Alright so I am so frustrated with this...and I am sure there is a simple solution for it. The screen on my old 8525 got messed up and since it was under waranty they sent me a replacement...the screen is ok on the replacement, but the phone isn't working (shows exclamation point next to "wine glass" rather than signal strength bars).... after hours and several phone calls to tech support, High End Devices waranty dept and who knows where else, it was determined that the current ROM version is incompatible with the AT&T network, I have to upgrade. So the version of the ROM on the replacement is 2.15.502.3 which makes wonder why in the world would AT&T send me a phone that would not work on their network? (I'm really trying not to vent here...) Anyways so I go to the HTC website as directed by the Tech. Support person download the stuff and after another hour on the phone with HTC and every possible sollution that they know is tried still can't install. I am running a Vista 64 machine and after getting around all the Vista quirks I am finally able to get to the Bootloader screen (button combination is: Side button [Ok] + [Power] Then push [Reset]...if done correctly your phone goes to the 4 bar boot loader screen, if not your phone soft resets and you have to try it again...) anyways in the bootloader screen it goes to the installation bar on both phone and PC and goes to 1%, then durring that one percent I get the horrible "ERROR 294 : INVALID VENDOR ID" on the PC and the Phone resets.....No matter how we have tried it it is always the same thing...redownloaded the file 3 times, restarted the phone about a gazillion times and the PC about 2 or 3 times. What can I do? I would love to have Ms Windows Mobile 6, but all I really want is a working phone....can anyone please help?
Some more info for those of you that can help:
On "Device Information" screen here is what I have:
ROM version: 2.15.502.3
ROM Date: 04/09/07
Radio version: {blank}
Protocol version: {blank}
On Bootloader screen:
In the top (red) section:
(in white)
HERM100
IPL-1.03
(in yellow)
HERM100
SPL-1.11
and then at the bottom (white) section:
(in black)
USB
(it says Serial when I unplug the USB cable)
I am trying to install the ROM titled:
RUU_Hermes_CINGULAR_WWE_3.62.502.3_6275_1.54.07.00_108_UOOS_SVN05_Ship.exe
downloaded from:
http://216.139.227.230/download/Sof...502.3_6275_1.54.07.00_108_UOOS_SVN05_Ship.exe
found by going to http://www.htc.com, Support, AT&T 8525, Software Download.
Thank you for any help you can give.
u cant be serious......you got an invalid model ID from an 8525 while trying to install an update from at&t itself.
well the solution would simply be to install hardspl (see the sticky) and then install the update. although there are many other easier and faster solutions i think this is the *safest* way. but then the fact that your radio version shows nothing makes me wonder......maybe a corrupted radio or something, which may or may not be related to the invalid model ID error.......anywho, search the forums for error 294 its probably been discussed many times
First of all thanks for your help. So I tried installing the 2.10 - Hard-SPL-V7 and it wont finish the install. I connect the device follow through the installation and when I get to the point where I push Yes on the 8525 the screen goes to the red/green/blue/white bars screen shows
HERM100
IPL-SSPL by Des
HERM100
SPL-1.09.ds
then the Computer shows ERROR [260]: UPDATE ERROR and the installation stops....
error 260 is an open port error, reboot your computer, and try again, if it doesnt work, try a different usb port, also disable watever firewalls or antivirus software you have
Okay so I diabled both the firewall (Windows Firewall) and the antivirus (AVG) and restarted the computer...tried 3 different USB ports...still the same problem....You don't think it could have anything to do with Windows Vista 64 and Windows Mobile Device Center. BEcause as soon as I go into the new Bootloader screen, the WMDC shows that the 8525 is diconnected now...even though it's not. I saw a post on here about installing drivers to get Active Sync on a Vista machine, but the drivers it provides are unsigned and Vista won't let me load them....so what's the next step? And again thank you so much for your help.
Is there any use in putting more effort into this or should I just have AT&T send me a new one?
whether there's any use left is ur decision, dont ask me to help you make your decision.
i know you can install unsigned drivers on vista, i dont know how, use the search. i have also heard that updating wmdc to the latest version helps too.
or you can either try and install hardspl using the microsd card, again use the search.
I have this Siemens SX56 that I bought on ebay
say on information:
ROM version: 3.14.03 ENG
ROM date: 09/27/02
Radio version: 6.12
Protocol version: 324e4
I tried to look on this site but there are too many to read, please kindly someone can direct me to a direct link for the right version for me to download thank you

sx56 problem
I downloaded the XDA-developers-SER-v12 for my siemens sx56...
the problem is that when i downloaded it and have it activated... the phone show upgrading...will take 5 minutes to do so and do not unplug... the thing is...it has been over 5 minutes and it still shows in my screen and i couldn't get to take it off...
now the thing is as soon as it unzips it says that i have to have my phone on active sync... i cannot do so since the phone is stucked... now when i try to cancel it it says "cannot open the ROM image file" please download and try again" so that's how it goes repetitively... what is the best way that i can do with this? if it ain't going to work.. i would rather just use it as an organizer like it used to...
is there anything i can do with this?
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Wallaby_HT_FlashSD
and if you want to unlock use the exe tool rather then a very very very old rom
like
XDA-developers-SER-v12
The code will change depending on the model of the mobile phone. Every step has to be carefully followed while unlocking the phone.
SX56 problems
Hi, I recently got a brand new Siemens SX56 from ebay. It was never upgraded to firmware. I took the task of upgrading this but something happened that killed the process. Now the device is stuck at this mode even after doing a reset.
My steps were, I updated Active Sync to 3.7.1 (the latest version) The device is happily communicating with my pc.
Then started the upgrade and the screen says "upgrading will take 5 minutes, do not remove device or uplug power...during upgrade process..etc"
The program says it encountered an error during the upgrade and basically stopped the process. I knew this was bad. The instructions told me to uplug the device from the usb cable, do a normal reset, plug usb cable back in, and then retry the upgrade utility.
It won't because no active sync can't see my device because the screen is stuck on that "upgrading takes 5 minutes screen"
Is this device basically dead? Please help. This was a clear upgrade process and clearly the process got an error.
Hello gybanez,
I had the same problem and was able resolve the problem.
You have two options:
1. you can send it to me and I will do it for free.
or
2. buy these:
a. MMC card (at least 64 mb)
b. buy a Card Reader/writer that supports MMC
c. go to www.xda-developers.com and download "XDA-developers-SER-v12"
d. extract the ROM from XDA-Developers-ser-v12 (.nbf file).
e. also download XDA-TOOLS (used to copy the .nbf file extracted to
your new MMC card on the Card reader/writer.
f. now insert the MMC card into your sx56 press reset and power button
at the same time and it should take you to a screen which asks you
to press "action button" to download and once done do a cold reset.
This should do the trick and afterwards if you want to upgrade and or
customize it go to http://lumpistefan.dyndns.org/ great site.
PS: If anyone wants to correct/add to this please feel free.
Regards, JOHNNY.

This was the same problem I had... so finally i got it all and had it transferred in the MMC card...
the thing...as soon as I run it...it get stuck on "SIR TEST : Supporting Running"
and another is that I am using Vista and downloaded the latest mobile sync... but it responds that it doesn't identify the HTC mobile... really sad... can someone contact me via YM: [email protected]
