very poor bluetooth range - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 ROM Development

hi, i just bought a bluetooth headset and it works fine except for one huge problem. I can hear the person on the other end with the headset up to like 10 metres away from the xda2, but if its any further away than about 50cm, they cant hear me. within that range it works fine. That means if the xda is in my pocket, its too far away to use! im using handsfree profile, rom 2.06.00wwe and radio 1.18.00, sin.merged.v2.0 ext rom.
would changing it to another radio or something improve the range and if so which one?
anyone have any ideas?
im using an xda 2 and a blueant X3 mincro headset.

Motorola HS850 -- static?

I've got a Motorola HS850 BT headset, and while working out of the box with my T-Mobile MDA III, for now the ROM version 1.06.00, I get a lot of static and people say they cannot hear me on the other side, while I can hear them -- though with some static.
Is this a BT problem which is fixed in a new ROM version -- i.e., would reflashing the ROM help and worth doing in this case?
What version of BT do you have? 3500 or 3900 (available as a cab file in the ftp) would help if you are not already at that level, also which radio version are you running?
Just upgraded to Radio 1.13 and BT 3900. A different kind of static -- all the time, lower intensity, annoying to no end. Can talk, but as in a thunderstorm...
Bringing MDA III closer to the headset solves the problem, but defeats the whole idea of hands-free -- I have to hold it at chin level, might speak into MDA as well...
Are there any tunable parameters for BT? Does it make sense to try a different headset instance (same/diff. model)?
Which headset works best with MDA III, in the local experience?
I am using the HS850 with a XDA IIs Radio 1.13 and BT V3900 I get static if I am not in line of sight and or exceed 3 feet away from the handset. Other then that it works ok. I was using a SE 660 headset and it was terrible. The Blueangel BT leaves a lot to be desired. Do you know someone else with a HS850 that will let you borrow it for a bit?
my Radio 1.12 and BT 3900 ... i got two bluetooth headsets. one is bluespoon AX. another is motorola HS-820.
my xdaIIs can pair with both of them. HS-820 working perfect but not the bluespoon AX. can talk unless i hold my xda2s on my hand. not inside my pocket or leather case.
I really prefer to use my AX .... . really headache!! anyone able to work with his /her xdaIIs with bluespoon AX??

Problem with Sony DR-BT20NX

Hi,
Today I finally got my Sony DR-BT20NX stereo bluetooth headset, but the joy wouldn't last for long. I have paired it and played music with awesome sound quality. However, as soon as I put the phone in my pocket or even just behind my back the sound drops and doesn't resume until I bring the phone back up front. It's just ridiculous. I also have a pair of Plantronics 590A and with them I can easily go into another room without the music dropping. Is their something wrong with it or is there a problem with this headset and the Tytn?
I have the a swedish Tytn with the 1.18 rom.
Edit: Btw, sleuths fix did nothing to help this problem.

I think it is the same on the SONY HBH-DS970, the BT part needs a pretty clear line of "sight" to the Tytn to play without interuptions. It will defenetly not work with receiver in fron of me and phone behind my back.
I t will work with the phone in my front trouser pocket, but can get interupted if the arm is in the way to long.
Interesting to hear that the range seem to be so much better with the Plantronics 590.
What experience does others have with their BT stereo hedsets?
It did not even work with the phone in my front pocket which pretty much renders it useless. Fortunately webhallen.com agreed for me to return it.
My Plantronics headset works superbly and I can actually go into another room still with crisp sound and no interruptions. Since those have worked so well for me I'm considering giving the Plantronics Pulsar 260 a try, although I like the looks of the Sony headset better. Seems to be more cable on the Pulsar 260. You can clip it to your belt and the cables reaches your ears, which I think defeats their purpose.
Can you please tell us which ROM/Radio/Ext_rom etc... you are using??
All but the most current WM6 ROMs have problems playing A2DP you see.
I am using the standard rom, mostly because people have reported better a2dp sound than with the updates. I need the swedish keyboard so I don't have that many choices. However, since my Plantronic 590A have worked so well and with good sound and distance I do not think that the rom is to blame. Also I have not had any sound dropping every 40-50 seconds which many users are reporting. Probably because I have a task manager or setup that works like Sleuths a2dp fix. Also, I tried the Sonys with my Qtek 9100 with the same results.
My setup:
Rom: 1.18.263.2
Radio: 1.07.01.10
ExtRom: 1.18.263.104

OMG....upgrade...upgrade NOW
Having been on this forum for nearly a year and had a TyTN I can almost guarantee that the ROM is the culprit sir. Like I said before ALL but the latest WM6 ROMs have issues with A2DP...im running Black Shadow and A2DP is almost perfect, streaming to several different devices works no problem.

I don't think it has changed the range? Sounds good but still needs a clear line of sight between my Tytn and HBH-DS970.
Using Shadow now and LVSW latest before.
Thats not the kind of performance I (and alot of others) get. Do you have anything else you could test this with?? Like a friends A2DP headset??
My TyTN was in my bag in the boot of the car and was streaming nicely to the car stereo, changing track via the AVRCP function.

Jompao: How is the a2dp quality with Black shadow and do you get the swedish characters on the keyboard with that rom?
I haven't upgraded simply because I haven't had any problems whatsoever with my rom. All the applications I use work like a charm and the a2dp quality was above all my expectations. Than again, I used to use a Qtek 9100 (still own it) and the a2dp quality sucked.

Cracking sound with Bluetooth headset

Ever since I upgraded to Windows Mobile 6, I have two big problems with using a Bluetooth headset with the HTC X7500.
The first one is in topic over here and has not been solved yet (or maybe a little, by using another headset which doesn't seem to have that problem with the X7500), yet the second problem goes for BOTH the headsets:
Cracking sound and very often. When I make a call, when I receive a call, it doesn't matter, there's a very loud, ongoing cracking sound, so I can't hear what the other one is saying. They seem to hear me though.
Is the Bluetooth stack/Headset Profile that messed up in the WM6 ROM? In Windows Mobile 5.0 I didn't have any of the two problems....
I found the opposite, the sound is much better in wm6
I have a Jabra 5020 headset and the reception under WM06 is very bad. It was much better under wm05, and I would probably love to flash back to solve this issue. Pity that cannot be done at the moment.
I had a clear reception from 3-4 meters away before flashing 06, now it is 50 cm.....
It must be the headsets then.. I have both an old Logitec (With Boom Mike)
and new BlueAnt Stero headphones, Neither have sound problems and work
clearly up to 30ft away.. Yes I'm using WM6 too..
No problem with me as well since migrated to WM6. Not even need to change the registry. Maybe yo u should try using other BT headset instead...
cheers..

Bluetooth is dieing really bad (but a2dp works perfect?)

I started getting problems with my jawbone headset a few days ago and I couldn't understand any calls while using the headset, it would start fine but 2 seconds later the voice from the other side started sounding garbled and digitized and like if it was muffled in static...I also came to a conclusion that the other party cannot hear me while using a bluetooth headset.
I thought at first it was my jawbone and called tech support and they're sending me a new one to replace, but then I tried my Motorola S9 stereo headset and it does the same exact thing while using the phone, however when it switches to A2DP to play audio or sounds it works crystal clear, I can listen to mp3s just fine, but when I take a phone call it's all messed up and I have to turn the headset off and use the phone itself.
I was using dcd 3.2.5 w/ 3.42.30 radio so I thought maybe if I go back to sprint rom it will fix, well I just ran RUU_TITAN_SPRINT_WWE_3.56.651.0_RS_TITAN_3.42.02_SPCS2.04_PPST_0718_Ship.exe and set up bluetooth with 2 different jawbones and I still have the same issue, the radio downgraded to 3.42.02 so its not the radio, rom or bluetooth headset
...my bluetooth radio must be dieing and I guess I need a replacement (good thing I have Sprint TEP), has anyone ever had a similar problem to this? It's really hard driving all day in california watching for cops cuz I cant use my bluetooth (they just passed a new law july 1st 08 that bans cell usage while driving unless its handsfree)

Bluetooth headsets Compatiblity!!!

Okay, I'm not trying to reinvent the will. I'm curious thought, what are some good compatible bluetooth headsets for HTC TC? What are the bad ones? ....using Murato Radio and Original Rom!!!! Or any other radio/Rom combo!
I have seen a post on headsets/stereo music/phone thread. But not one with a specific list of compatible headsets.
I'm asking because I'm trying to figure out if my brand new (one week old) device have a bad bluetooth problem or do I need another headset. Currently using Plantronics Voyager 510, and I cant go 3 feet without it getting choppy and static, sound quality is f**k*d up!!!!
So I will post first: Plantronics Voyager 510 ....NOPE!!
Just be sure and purchase from a place that allows returns if you're not happy with them. Find some you like on your own.

Jabra JX10 Series II: Works well
I love my Jabra BT620S
well i have a Plantronics Voyager 510 and have been using it first with Artemis and now with Polaris and i have to say its THE BEST heatset i have ever used (and there have been many!)
good up to 15m and sound perfect.... you have something wrong either with the headset you have or your Polaris
I'm currently using Philips SHB9000. At first signt, it pairs but no headset icons on the top bar (which means all the sound goes through the speakerphone).
Using BTAudio, sound gets redirected to the headset (still no headset icon) but quality is awful, using HomeScreen PlusPlus UI A2DP option the icon appears and sound is incredibly good.
I was using Murata radio/udK R8 when I bought it one week ago. Changing radio or ROM did not change anything so either it is OS or headset related.
Regarding your choppy sound, try this method (especially for Plantronics Voyager 510) : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2533699&postcount=13, this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2533699&postcount=14 and this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1317007&postcount=18

Thanks for the resource everyone. I appreciate the response and the help.
I purchased the Plantronics Discovery 655, and guess what? The exact same thing is happening. I still get choppy reception at times.
though I have noticed it is slightly better then the previous headset. And people who I'm tallking to say that I sound alot more clearer.
My conclusion, now, my phone has a bad radio. Either the bluetooth hardware is jacked...or my radio is horrible.
What do you guys think?
BTW i purchased it from a website and I didnt get any warranty on it.
So I called HTC and complained about my bluetooth connection. The lady (valerie) told me that as long as it works, they are not interested in the quality of the connection. After complaining a little more, I ended with the conclusion that I have to test alot of headsets until I find the right one. So to add to this thread:
Good connection will be defined as, "clear crispy hearing on both ends, no static and choppy sounds, and the ability to walk away at most 6 feet (maybe 3 meters) from the phone and still maintain sound quality connection with the phone: Good connection".
So those who have post already with their headset, can you repost to determine if you have "Good connection". My only purpose for this is to purchase this time the "right" headset instead of numerous returns to the store to find the perfect one.
Jabra JX10 series II
Jabra BT6210S
Phillip SHB9000
Do all of these fit the Good Connection definition?
Thanks for all who have post. I truly appreciate your help. You are helping me save money and time!!!!
Yes, JX10 series II: Good connection (FYI, not sure about the series I, as there are some firmware changes that happened.)
I think I can say that Phillip SHB9000 has out-of-the-box a fairly good connection (did not test the 3 meters test yet and had natively choppy sound before the registry modification) with my TC.
After the reg modification it has a good connection (still did not checked the 3 meters connection but I never get disconnected), but it can't be compared to the 2 Jabras at it is really dedicated to listening to music (covers almost all your ears). It is the first time I'm buying that type of headset and it is really a different world than usual headsets (intra auricular or in-ear). The sound is clear and all details are present.
The only drawback compared to the other is obviously the size...
BTW, disconnection problem with Jabra headsets could be solved by HTC official Bluetooth fixes (as one has been especially made for them) and BT disconnection is also relying to the ROM version.

Jabra BT8040
I use the Jabra BT8040. It has as major advantage that it not only supports the handsfree profile, but also wireless 'stereo' (A2DP), so I'm able to listen to music on the headset too.
thanks muyz
after applying the patches from HTC's website, my Jabra BT500 works pretty good. the issues before were addressed and it works fine now as a hands free in the car headset.
i have tested it while walking and talking and something strange i've never encountered: crackling noise. it's as if i was on a wired set with bad wires. as soon as i stop moving, the connection is back to normal. strange. this is why i said it's great for in car connection since the phone and your head will stay relatively static.
looking for a new headset myself actually.
Hi,
I'm using the Jabra BT3030 which also support A2DP for my music listening. After I applied the bluetooth fix from the htc website it's working flawlessly, with no loss of connection as it did before the patch. Very happy with it.
what does the Jabra BT3030 look like? Is it jus the dog tag thing...or is it also wired or wireless plugins? Can you take a quick pic and upload?
Thanks
I tried looking online and I only see the tag piece...is that it?
i'm using Jabra BT620s - work's perfect
i had just some break's in stereo while running in traffic (maybe caused by other BT devices from cars?) - so I changed A2DP setting in SKTools and now it's perfect
strongly recomend
slightly off topic, but what are the registry hacks people keep mentioning
I have 8 cruises for my company's engineers and all of them are moaning about the carkit connections. We have applied the hot fixes and they are still generally rubbish
a selection of the carkits ;
nokia ck 7w
motorola HF 850
focus c-max bluetooth in car
Auidi bluetooth in car
various jabra headsets
motorola HS 800
Keeps cutting out. poor/ tinny sounding, mine (Moto hf 850) makes outgoing calls ok (sometimes) but takes about 15 seconds to hear voice of othter caller on incoming
???????????
Cheers

Anyone ? this phone is pants, great pda tho
…and for the HBH-DS980 ?
I have a Jabra X10 Serie II, but I want a HBH-DS980.
Is there someone who know if it works with Polaris ?
I mean, every function of the headset [playlist, list contacts, etc…].
Thanks for your feedback.
It doesn't work fully with anything, its pants !
and even when it does work fully ... it stops working when it feels like it !
