TomTom mobile map question? - HTC Hurricane

Hi got tomtom mobile on this phone but only have the "south" great britain map. I have downloaded the Full GB map but after i've put it onto the memory card tomtom says "no maps found". What else do i have to do to get tomtom to see this map?
cheers

create a text file on your pc using notepad called “CurrentMap.dat”
Open the file & type
"& \Storage Card\Great_Britain-Map\"
or whatever the name of your main map folder is on your SD card. Do not forget to add the final backslash and a have a space between the ampersand and the first backslash.
Save the file as CurrentMap.dat. Make sure it doesn't end up as CurrentMap.dat.txt!
Put this file in the main memory of your PPC under “\My Documents\TomTom”.

How do I relocate an application to SD card?

XDA I has only 32M RAM that is shared between application installation storage and program run time memory, a precious resource. Lots of applications don't offer the option of installing it to a different place, e.g. Storage Card\Program Files directory that I created. (To make the shortage worse, even if an application is installed on the SD card, there are dll's that the application installs to the Main Memory's Windows directory anyway.)
I can cut and paste to relocate / move the application directory from Main Memory to Storage Card brute force but it doesn't work well. I presume that the Registry contains links pointing to the application directory that I moved away, just like desktop Window versions. I guess I need a regedit program (Special Edition came with it) to fix the links in the Registry. Is that all? If I choose not to upgrade to the Special Edition, which program is best for this? Much appreciated!
Try the CABINSTL - this software enable to install anywhere Your programs, if You can find the installed applicaton's CAB file.

FYI if you use the cut & paste method you must recreate your links manually using a file explorer. But the best way go is to just reinstall your applications and select Storage card instead of Main memory.
Also under Add/Remove Programs un-check "Install programs into the default installation folder".
HTH
Thanks to both of you!
Using cabinstl. you have to create the directory,
\Storage Card\Program Files\app_dir_name as the destination directory. I first designated \Storage Card\Program Files as the destination and cabinstl hangs. Check the box "Associating .cab with cabinstl" is convenient so that you can copy/paste the .cab file to \Storage Car\tmp, say, using Windows Explorer, and double-click on the cab file on XDA I to start installation. With this tool, you can install any .cab nicely to \Storage Card\Program Files - so far it works with every .cab application installation file I use.

For other readers: it's the Add/Remove Programs from ActiveSync's Tool menu on the PC (vs XDA). For some applications, they give you an .exe installer for you to run on the PC to install it on XDA. Bring the Add/Remove Programs tool up, un-check it, and then double click on the .exe installer. Minor restriction: it always installs it at the top level of the Storage Card, not 100% desirable but serves the purpose of preserving Main Memory.
ActiveSync's Help for Add/Remove Program indicates that ActiveSync assumes that an application installer is in .exe form that runs on the connected PC and installs on the PC as well as XDA. I don't understand why it needs to install on the PC.

Microsoft Reader

I've just recently upgraded from wm2003 to wm2003se from zeroextreme's ROM. I've noticed that there isn't no Microsoft Reader in the basic apps installed. I then downloaded the installer of Microsoft Reader for PPC. What I would like to do is for it to be included in the basic apps to be installed after a hard-reset. How do I do this?
MSReaderPPC
Add this command line into your Config.txt file of your Extended ROM.
CAB: \Extended_ROM\msreader_arm.CAB
Download the attachment, unzip and place the cabinet file within into your Extended ROM folder.

I can't seem to edit / change the config.txt file in the Extended ROM. I tried editing it from the Extended ROM and Pocket Word prompts me with this:
"No storage memory available
Tap Cancel, use File Explorer to delete some files, and try again. Or, move the note to an alternate storage location.
Tap Discard to close the document without saving changes"
I then tried to copy the config.txt file to a different folder (i.e. My Documents) and edit it from there. After doing this, I tried to overwrite the config.txt in the Extended ROM with the new config.txt and it says:
"Action Failed
Cannot overwrite file 'config.txt'. The media is write protected.
Press 'Yes' to continue."
extrom unlocker
try this to unlock/unhide your extrom and edit/cook as well.
Re: extrom unlocker
 harhar.. got it.. thanks a lot!
Thank you so much for posting a copy of the CAB file! I had to replace my phone and the new one wouldn't sync. I was getting desparate because most of my books are in .lit format - beginning to go through withdrawl symptoms. And the MS Reader for PPC only loads through the Mobile Device Center. I've been scouring the 'net trying to find some answer that works to fix the problem and coming up with nothing effective. With this CAB, I don't need to sync. Thanks again!
Quite an ancient thread, I hope I'll get some answers...
This CAB does not work on my WinCE 6.0 handheld with ANYKA CPU.
Most of the CAB I download do not work. Only CABs found in MioPocket package work.
Why?
MioPocket contains MS Reader too, already "installed", but upon starting it complains about internal error 010, which afaik means "messing fonts".
So where do I get missing fonts from?

How to get TomTom to Autorun on startup?

I use my phone mostly for TomTom mobile.
Does anyone know a way to get TomTom to run everytime i turn the phone on?
Thanks in advance
Hi,
You should have a file called "TomTom Mobile.lnk" (this is a shortcut file) in the directory "\Windows\Start Menu".
Copy it to the folder "\Windows\StartUp"
Next time you start your phone, the TomTom application will start automatically.
If you don't already have a shortcut file for TomTom, then use the MS Activesync explorer to find the "TomTom MOBILE.exe" file (e.g. \Storage Card\TOMTOM\TomTom MOBILE.exe). Right mouse click on this file and choose "create shortcut". Edit the shortcut name and then copy it to the "\Windows\StartUp" directory.

BatchLaunch, launch multiple executables automatically one after another

[SIZE=+1]Description[/SIZE]
Due to my own needs and as I have not found anything as simple as this
I have written a very simplified batch processing command.
No version numbering or such thing at the moment.
The application consists of two files:
BatchLaunch.exe
BatchLaunch.bat
The .exe file is the batch processor, the .bat file lists the commands to execute.
At the moment two types of entries in the .bat file are supported:
Direct paths to executables, for the moment only .exe files
wait() command, getting parameter milliseconds to wait, e.g. wait(1500) to wait 1.5 seconds before processing next line
Multiple BatchLaunch apps at the same time are supported by simply renaming
both, .exe and .bat file.
So if you want to use a second set of BatchLaunch you could name it Something.exe and Something.bat.
[SIZE=+1]Using BatchLaunch with HD2/Leo Android[/SIZE]
Can be perfectly used together with yozgatg's Gen.Y DualBOOT to boot HD2 into Android.
For Gen.Y DualBOOT just rename oringinal haret.exe to zharet.exe and
BatchLaunch to haret.exe and haret.bat.
Content of haret.bat is as simple as
Code:
\Storage Card\CLRCAD.exe
\Storage Card\zharet.exe
Have fun with this simple but in my opinion brilliant little helper.
As more and more guys seem to have problems setup this simple app I have prepared BatchLaunch for both ways, with or without Android folder on storage card.
Extract one these new packages to the root of your Storage Card.
Use BatchLaunch_SD_Root.rar if you do not have an Android-folder.
Use BatchLaunch_SD_Android.rar if you do have an Android-folder.
[SIZE=+1]Testing that BatchLaunch works on your device[/SIZE]
O.K. just to make sure that BatchLaunch is working I have setup
a small testing environment.
Extract the Test.rar to the root of your storage card and start BatchLaunch.exe . The test project is setup to use the "Storage Card" path so it will fail with "Speicherkarte" paths.
BatchLaunch should now start Test.exe which is a simple standard project of M$ Visual Studio.
If this works for you, that proves that BatchLaunch works and you may have a configuration fault if not working with your customizations.
I think you forgot to mention that you have to edit the .bat file... but so far its working.
Great Idea, unfortunately it is not working here on my (german) HD2. I tried several combinations in the .bat file, like "\Storage Card\xxx.exe" and "\Speicherkarte\xxx.exe" but there has never been any reaction when I tried to start your correctly renamed .exe file. As soon as I clicked on the .exe files itself which should be lauched by the .bat files, they started well.
So there might be a problem with your .exe file which doesn't seem to do anything here on my hd2.
If you have some time to check this, I am of course ready to serve you with tests and so on
If you need more details, just tell me.
Hi Downy,
I'm from Germany, too. However I am using a non German
ROM as Miri's ROMs are available in Englisch only.
I have the following structure on my SD:
- root of SD card
|- zharet.exe (real, renamed haret.exe)
|- haret.exe (renamed Batchlaunch.exe)
|- haret.bat
haret.bat should look like follows:
Code:
\Storage Card\CLRCAD.exe
\Storage Card\zharet.exe
Where "Storage Card" is the name of your SD card exactly like it is shown in
Explorer.exe when you browse to your root folder. So for German ROMs this
is most likey "Speicherkarte".
Does this match your configuration so far ?
Hello,
yes, matching exactly my current setup. Just instead of "Storage Card" I have currently "Speicherkarte", but I also tried it with "Storage Card" previously.
I also checked that all characters are in lower case but that doesn't seem to be important anyway.
Just tried it with a German ROM but that works, too.
As you said before it works perfect if you start the .exe by hand.
- Do you use Gen.Y ?
- Did Gen.Y work with the original haret.exe (of course no sound, but just for testing) ?
I could think of Gen.Y calling a fixed path of \Storage Card\haret.exe which of course would not work with a German ROM. I have not tested it but would be an
explanation to me.
In this case you could create a shortcut to your haret.exe on SD in the \Windows\Startup\ folder, I think it's \Windows\Autostart\ in German ROM.
If you want to go back to good old Windows you can just rename the haret.exe to something other by using filemanager in Android.
Then it would even boot faster than using Gen.Y
tried using this with Dan's Froyo with Sense build (which puts the files in /Storage Card/Android)...
I changed the haret.bat to reflect the change in directory but it still wont start using Gen.Y (Gen.Y boots successfully if I don't use this)
is the utility only able to detect and use haret.exe and haret.bat in the root of the Storage Card?
I cannot reproduce ANY problem espacially yours pongster.
If you use Dan's Build which is located in \Storage Card\Android you have two
choices of starting Android using Gen.Y .
Method #1:
Rename "\Storage Card\Android\haret.exe" to "\Storage Card\Android\zharet.exe"
Copy BatchLaunch.exe to "\Storage Card\Android\" and rename it to haret.exe
Copy BatchLaunch.bat to "\Storage Card\Android\" and rename it to haret.bat
In this case the content of haret.bat would be:
Code:
\Storage Card\Android\CLRCAD.exe
\Storage Card\Android\zharet.exe
If using this method you will have to change the registry Key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Gen.Y\DualBOOT\AndroidBootFolder to contain the value "Android"
Method #2
Copy BatchLaunch.exe to "\Storage Card\" and rename it to haret.exe
Copy BatchLaunch.bat to "\Storage Card\" and rename it to haret.bat
In this case the content of haret.bat would be:
Code:
\Storage Card\Android\CLRCAD.exe
\Storage Card\Android\haret.exe
No need to rename haret.exe in Android folder in this case.
Using this method you won't need to change anything using Gen.Y .
I have tested both ways and they are working perfect.
I used the 1st option and no dice there...
will try 2nd option...

I tried renaming to haret.exe and edited the bat file as you suggested via Resco Explorer... still no dice... Batchlauncher.exe runs but when renamed to haret.exe it wont run at all
Works great with Gen.Y boot.
Thank you very much

Yes, I've done that... when I click the renamed haret.exe it does nothing... still not sure why it won't work... will probably cook a new ROM to try and sort it out

[GUIDE] Linking folders from SD card to the internal ones

After a lot of search and many attempts, I talked to our forum mate AXD96 and he found a way of 'cheating' the relatively small internal memory of our L9s, by using a method of linking the internal folders to an external one that actually works. So, here's what you need to do :
1. First of all, you need a rooted phone (I am using a rooted P760 v20i on Orange RO)
2. Download the latest version of Lucky Patcher from here, install it on your phone and grant its root access.
3. AXD96 suggested to create a single folder on the external_sd, that should be linked to the folder Android from storage/sdcard0 , but I've tried this and had a few issues. Here's what I suggest - create two folders on the external_sd => name the first one 'internal_data' and the second 'internal_obb'. You can give them any names you want, but this way you know better what are they linked to. I recommend you to create two folders because not every app has its download files in the same folder (par example, some of them have their datas in storage/sdcard0/Android/obb, others have their data in storage/sdcard0/Android/data)
4. Open Lucky Patcher, go in Toolbox (down, left corner) and choose Directory Binder
5. Here we find two things - "Directory with data" and "Mount directory with data to".
6. Click to create a new bind - in "Directory with data" choose the folder 'internal_data' from external_sd and in "Mount directory with data to" choose the folder 'data' from storage/sdcard0/Android.
7. Click to create a new bind - in "Directory with data" choose the folder 'internal_obb' from external_sd and in "Mount directory with data to" choose the folder 'obb' from storage/sdcard0/Android.
8. Now look at those linked folders and make sure the button in their right side is set to ON
9. Restart the device and now you can simply add data files of the apps on your SD card, in the right folder (as it is said in their instructions file), install the apks on the device and they will work just fine.
Tons of thanks to AXD96 for the tip!!! I thaught that many of you are sick of the small internal memory of our L9, so that's why I wrote this small tutorial. It is not meant to promote piracy, just to help people use their SD to run big games on their L9s. Cheers!

Question? Why not just create a folder named 'init.d' in system/etc and then use Link2SD? It's much simpler than what you've proposed, in my opinion anyway. I use Link2SD with my L9 - P769 with no issues. Link2SD does require a second partition on the external SDCARD formatted as ext2, ext3, or ext4 however.
I just use an app called folder mount and it is very easy, no second partition on SD card.
@shinobisoft - I didn't verify yet, but I am pretty sure that if in the market it is an app larger than the space we have left on the internal, it will NOT be downloaded, no matter how much space we have left on the external_sd. I am not sure, I didn't try, but that's what I suspect. Anyway, this method is used to make work the apps that we already have data for. I found it very simple for the most users, to I thaught sharing might help some people. I am sure Link2SD method is good, but it's a bit more complicated. @greencartim - I have tried this Folder Mount, along with Internal2external... none of them worked for me. Maybe I missed something out there, I don't know. The idea is that I just followed AXD96s suggestions and it worked - pretty easy and no unnecessary complication.
bad post
I am interested in this topic, here is why:
I have a P769 (TMo - 20h), rooted, with CWM and BusyBox. Locked bootloader (bummer !)
I use a lot the GPS app Copilot, as it uses offline maps. However, when I want to download a BIG map, say, North America (almost 2gb), it tells me that I can't because I don't have enough storage.
I tried a lot of solution that I found on the web (modifying Copilot's config.ini and move the maps to the SD, with no success).
What would be the best way ?
FolderMount doesn't work... it moves the current maps (Midwest in my case), but when I want to download a big one, it still says "not enough storage"...
I heard about Kuma's script, could it work ?
Thanks for your help :good:
@damathos - You can use this method to link your internal folders to external ones. Then try to find the maps on the internet, download them and put them wherethey normally need to be and probably the app will see them as already downloaded so you could use them. You can try this method, it is fast, safe and reversible. Good luck with that!

I'm not sure about the OPs method, but Link2SD would not do the trick for you. @kuma82 script actually forces/tricks the device to thinking the external SD is the internal SD, which it sounds to me like is exactly what you need. As stated earlier, Link2SD works great for me, but that is also for my usage habits. We've all got different habits tho...
I've checked today - if you link the folders and you try to download a large app from market, it will say that there is not enough space. But, if you put the data where it needs to be, you install the app and it still needs some thing to run, it will download the data in on the sd location, leaving the internal space untouched (verified on Gangstar Vegas - initially had about 2.5 GB, after some playing it had about 5 GB... guess which space got smaller - the sd card one). So, it's a pretty decent method!
Ok, I found a way that works for Copilot:
1- Install Copilot, download one of the US fragmented maps (not the US or North America one, they're too big): Midwest, Northern, Southwest, etc.
2- close Copilot
3- use app FolderMount to link/move the folder that contains the maps on "internal SD" to the external SD (let it do by itself when it asks)
4- "unpin" the folders in FolderMount
5- start Copilot again, it will says that you need to download a map... do it for another map of US
6- move manually the downloaded map to the external SD folder created by FolderMount
7- repeat from step 5 to 6 until you've downloaded all the maps you need
8- once you're done, "pin" the folders in FolderMount
There ! you have all the fragmented US maps on the SD instead of the big US or North America :good:

Original folder is in internal sd (sdcard0), maps for North America (NA) are in:
sdcard0/com.alk.copilot.namarket.premiumusa/NA/1/
(this path is for Copilot Premium, don't know for the other version)
FolderMount will create automatically a copy of that path on ext. SD, you want to move the maps folders to that path ("eastern", "midwest", etc.)
Basically, both FolderMount and Lucky Patcher methods are doing the same thing, except there are situations where FolderMount didn't work (me ) ).
