Performance issues after upgrade to WM2003 SE 2.06 - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 ROM Development

Finally I upgraded to WM2003SE (2.06).
Direct reason was the declining performance under WM2003 (1.72). What happened was that when running TomTom 5.1 and a phone call came in (or I made one) the connection with my SD was lost. Exit TomTom, take-out & re-insert SD end eventualy restarting TomTom solved that on an incident basis.
With WM2003 SE that problem has gone. BUT I got something back: The sound in TomTom (5.1 and 5.21) is severely distorted ('clicking' like sound). The same (but not that severe) happens when I run Tomtom and I play an MP3 using WMP9.
I tried XCPUScalar, but the CPU load most of the time is around 60-70% (@400MHZ).
My Extended ROM does not have suspicious tools that run permanently in it.
Any clues?

Update: Same issue happens with ROM 2.20.07CHS (translated).
I received a clue from mamaich :
Create a "Priority256" key under HKLM\drivers\builtin\wavedev and set it to 128 (0x80)
First results are promising!

mmm looks like I am talking to myself in this thread.
Anyway: The registry hack worked fine for me. Even better: the GB-Tweak applet I allready have does just the same (via the Audio priority option).
I am now very happy with the 2.20 translated SE ROM for my Himalaya. I might just keep on using it until my Wizard arives in two weeks 8)

Had the same problem, tomtom stutterd, GB-Tweak did the trick.
Thanks for the help.

Tomtom buggy with WM2003

Has anyone noticed that Tomtom 2.24 has problems with WM2003 on the XDA, after it's been run it gets rid of the small dot's used to select items (such as the ones next to On, Off, Vibrate on the Volume menu of the today screen) has anyone got a work around for this ? Only a soft reset seems to bring them back :!:
Cheers

Never had any problem with my xda.....
Running Tomtom version 2.24 on my own cooked German ROM 4.00.33 .

There is no need to downgrade to 2002.
Just upgrade to TomTom 2.04 and GPS 2.08, format your SD Card and re-install the maps. Try to start without any additional POI files.
This should fix your problem.
After this, the TT 2 was running fine on my MDA with the 4.0.33 german ROM.

My Dad has just got an XDA aswell, he's running the same rom as me (4.01.00 no extra cooked bits) and 2.24 with GPS 2.08 does the same on his.

I have the same problem on my MDA II, even after the ROM 1.60 upgrade: sometimes radio buttons and/or checkboxes just disappear. I don't think this is specific to TomTom, as I saw the same thing happen also while running other programs. It is also not reproducable, most of the time TomTom just works fine.
Doesn't bother me much though, as a soft reset is a matter of seconds.

I found that tomtom 2.05 and gps 2.09 is the best marriage. Tomtom 2.24 does have some bugs such as after planning a journey it takes ages to go to the navigator map.

Is that with WM2003 ?
Tomtom's site states 2.24 adds PocketPC 2003 support but to be honest is didn't even try tomtom 2.05 i just upgraded it straight away.

Neil
where did you get the upgrade from?

Just put GPS 2.09 on and its nice to have the bar on the Today screen to launch tomtom, we'll have to wait and see if the problem with disappearing buttons still occurs, but it's been OK so far

I did not persevere with WM2003, it seemed to be very flaky on my XDA, I am sticking with XDA dev rom 1.2.
Swifty,
Many thanks. This has really got rid of alot of the bugs.
Does anyone know a url of a UK map update. The packaged map doesnt know alot of roads built over 18 months ago
Ashby
i followed all the examples bu i still had the missing radio buttons.
i tried every combo of updates and GPS versions. so i have kept the lastest versions.
however i have found a way to stop it occuring. it seems that the radio buttons only disappear after you launch the GPS software. i have avoided launching it and have used tomtom for a while now and the radio buttons have remained there.
Ashby, I dont thin tomtom do map updates as such, they release the new maps when the next version is released.
Yes, I kind of figured that. They hint on their website that map updates will be available when there data supplier gives them new data, but I suspect that they never will release an update and force you to by Navigator 3.
Bad show really.
A cool feature would be map editior, that way users can add new roads/ modify road layouts etc
Ashby
I purchased the Navigator USA version about 8 months ago and just last month TomTom sent me an email stating that map updates would be available soon. I followed a URL in the email and signed up for the updates and within a week I has seven new cd's that contained all the updated maps.
I don't have any complaints.
It must just be the UK!
never had a prob with tomtom v2.24 on v4.00.11 on v4.01.00 it took bluddy ages to load up and it hanged loads. but now that im on vA.30.07 it is a hell of a lot faster then v4.00.11 and seems alot better
Radio Buttons
Another confirmation on the radio buttons problem with TomTom. The problem is still there even with the latest version (2.24 & GPS 2.19).
But, I have been able to trace the bug down a bit. Can't prove it, but maybe others can confirm:
It seems the problem is related to the GPS-S/W. Whenever I change anythin on the configuration there, I lose the radio buttons until I do a soft reset. SPecifically when you change the COM-port, you lose the buttons.
We've been doing some GPS/NMEA S/W development around the serial ports ourselves. WM2003 has some ugly bugs in this area, such as hanging when you try to open a port that isn't configured or active).
But, as Microsoft points out: Its not a bug, its a feature (verify that the soft reset button still works)!! ;-)

Sound skipping on WM2003

Hi All.
I have a problem that from what I see, I'm the only one who has it.
Everything was fine on PPC2002 and I upgraded today to WM2003, after that I get sound skipping/clipping on many games/apps.
For example when I record something with "Notes" everything's fine but if I use VITO's SoundExplorer I get lots of skipping on the recorded audio.
On games with music (Clickgamer's Knight Lite / ZioSoft's Metalion / Astraware's GTS Racing and many, many more) it clips a lot.
It is very annoying and it never happened on PPC2002 (used the Spanish and the O2 English ROM from LumpiStefan's kitchen for PPC2002 and for WM2003 I used A.30.09 ENG Siemens).
I tried disabling all my Today's plugins (leaving Today totally empty) and renaming the Startup folder in order to check if it was an app in there slowing down the sound, but nothing, it stays the same.
Does anyone have a clue or will I need to downgrade to PPC2002?
I love PPC2002 but the phone losts the signal so frecuently that it renders the phone useless. For example I go to the subways and get No Signal, that's OK but when I get out of it, it doesn't get back unless I turn off the radio or reset the phone, that's annoying like hell. It should check for signal say once per minute, I lose plenty of calls because of that...
So I read that with GB-Soft Tweak (http://www.gb-soft.cz) if I disable "GPRS Always On" I will get signal everytime but unfortunately it doesn't work on PPC2002 so I had to upgrade.
That's it, that's my story
Hope anyone can help me.
Kind regards,
Marton
P.S.: LumpiStefan, if you're reading this: I also got the BootScreen inverted and upside down on WM2003 (just like on PPC2002 Spanish) so I think it is a problem with the Kitchen... maybe you should check it... Cheers!
try GB-SOFT GPRS TWEAK, i have the same problem, that dissapeared
after i set "high priority for audio media"
http://www.gb-soft.cz/XDAII/product_gprs_tweak_en.htm
Wow!!! Thanks!
Now it doesn't click anymore but it does turn off the sound and makes a fade-in every 5~10 seconds.
I don't know what's better: skipping or stopping and fading in
Anyway I notice that it makes fade-in everywhere, for example when I'm checking the ring tones it is set as Vibrate and Ring and the ringtones fade in, just like as if it was on "Increasing ring". That was the first thing I noticed when I upgraded to WM2003... Is there a way to disable that annoying fade-in?
Thanks for the speedy and helpful reply k_dima!
i use AT&T A30.09 about 5 month, and decided to change it to O2 WM2003, that you can find in the Rom Kitchen.
After this upgrade , fade effect dissapeared.
I reccomend you to use O2 ROM , becouse it's a very stable and fast , without annoying sound effects.
Before O2 ROM i use AT&T and T-Mobile 4.0.16.
T-Mobile ROM is too slow and not stable. When you installed more than 10 programms, you can notice it, but Radio Stack from T-Mobile Rom i left as is, becouse i have the best voice quality with T-Mobile Radio Stack.

WM2003SE 2.06 working 99%

Hello folks
Some of you will probably know that i am running 2.06WWE with orange ext rom on my M1000.
After several days of testing different settings etc and after talking with darren_the (respect to you man) and with help from SIN,
I finally have my M1000 running WM2003SE with BT activesync and BT Headset running 100% - just like i want it
My question is this :-
Does anyone know why the BT headset today plugin keeps disappearing and can this be fixed as it is really annoying.....
cheers again for everyones help.
(gonna go and play know)
BT headset today plugin keeps disappearing
This happen to version 2.02Ti & 2.06
as far as I know
Hi darran mate, i gathered that..... is they anyway to fix it
u said that u're using 2.06, but AFAIK it's the most bugged version of all the four (2.02, 2.06, 2.2CHS, 2.2ENG-TRANSLATED)... have you changed anything, ext-rom aside?

tought i was logged-in.. :? :? 8)
Seems to work okay for me, it does what i need it to do so.....
I tried 2.02 first a while back but could not get me BT headset to work with handsfree (no mic)
Went back to 172, for a while and tried various landscape and skinning apps, nothing was really 100% so went back to 2.06/w.02 merged from sin.
This worked great with my bt headset in headset mode and bt activesync, but i hard reset by accident and ended up with 2.06 basic
everything still worked so i'm sticking with it until sin gets his merged rom single update package uploaded or buzz lightyear completes his translation of the 2.20.07 chs rom.

Trion keeps Crashing/Freezing = Missing Calls & Overslee

Hey
I'm hoping someone out there will be able to help me solve this problem or I may be saying goodbye to my Trion sooner than I would like.
So here's the problem:
While I am sleeping my trion keeps LockingUp!
This has happened a few times and each has been quite costly, either I oversleep and am late for important appoitments or I miss a number of very important phone calls.
I have tried using differnt ROMS but the problem persists. It happened to me a couple times while using the new I-mate rom so I switched to the new Dopod ROM and it happened again! I'm going to try the TYTN rom now... ugh!
Info Regarding my current setup:
Dopod ROM: 1.23.707.4
Programs:
MSN Messenger
MSN PPC 2003
TCPMP
Cyberon
Aidem MP3
Fit4cat Hermes v1.0
Fit4cat Settings changed from default:
Enable wireless plugin + show pluggin = ON
Remove Wireless Manager Icon = ON
Mount Ext. ROM = ON
Improve A2DP "High" = ON
- and that's all I've enabled. A weird thing I notice with the wireless pluggin is that at times on the Today screen it will just show my bluetooth status and neglect to show the WIFI status; at times the BT icon is right aligned as if the WIFI was still there but invisible and at other times the BT icon is left aligned indicating the WIFI icon is not even there.
That's about it for now. Any help resolving the main FREEZING/CRASHING issue would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thank You!
I have had the same problem. Hard reset and ran software freefor a few days, and same problem. Flashed to imate, and same problem. Flashed back to original HTC, and problem gone. I don't know what it was/is, but I feel your pain. We have almost no software in common, so whatever it is I think the problem is within the ROM itself or common Ext_Rom files. I never ran without Ext_ROM may start there.
this problem I had for about 3 weeks, I am currently using the new dopod rom and I have had no problems at all. It is a software problem issue and as roms develop issues will go I would flash either the new HTC rom or dopod rom as I had no problem with either of them I installed the dopod as it is quicker for me.
the same to me with imate rom, and some time when i press the center/enter button it show the sound volume panel
must go to Tytn rom tonight

Mogul Freeze/Lockup

I've been trying various versions of dcd's mods hoping to remedy a problem with my mogul. It seems that my unit locks-up/freezes when all of the following are true:
1. Bluetooth is on
2. Phone is locked
3. Goes into sleep mode
When i try to awake phone; none of the buttons work; simply black screen and needs a soft reset. This does not happen all the time, just enough to be annoying.
Any thoughts? Is this a radio 1.47 problem??
Thanks guys.
bump. i have the same problem with DCD 1.6.8 Rom. i thought it was codyppc battery/performance hack so I uninstalled that(still happened), then i thought it was s2u2 so i uninstalled that( still happened today).... so any ideas?
can we verify whether this happens on dcd_titan_1.6.10 rom with NO software, tweaks, etc etc installed? it does not happen for me (i have been using BT lately) but that doesnt mean it wont happen for you guys.
Are you by anychance using S2U2 with the Power Off setting?
I was having this problem, and since I've set S2U2 not to Power off the phone, I have not had this problem. Being going well over 24 hours now.
Mine also freezes/locks up from time to time. I'll make the changes in S2U and see what happens.
Sorry for the newb question, but what is S2U?
got it; slide to unlock.
Is this app worthwhile?
I'm running 2.17 ROM and I get this error, although I'm NOT running S2U2
I have got the same problem. I just flashed to custel 1.1 6mb pagepool (awesome rom for alltel users) had no time to install anything extra paired bt locked phone about 10 mins later tried to make call and it was froze. i did however find out if you constantly use the bt it dont freeze (I finaylly installed ms voice command and if i constantly ask for date or time it stays unfroze.).
edit: I just upgraded to radio v2.13 ( ftp://xda:[email protected]/Titan/Radio_Roms/titan_2.13_CDMA.rar ) totally cured bt reception problem on both ends but once again same problem phone freezes. helppppp!!!!!!
