Cant get Spectec SDW-820 wifi card to work - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

I have brought a second hand spectec SDW-820 but it didnt come with a CD with drivers. i have an XDA I and i have installed the cab driver that is on spectec website (FCC version).
The driver installs successfuly and places the tools on (wlan etc). i place the card in to the sdio port and a screen comes up with "Unrecognized Card" with a box to place the name of the card in to. i do this but i cant get the device to work any further. i cant run the wlan program ever. i am running win mobile 2003se on my xda. what can i do, is there any chance i can have the iso for Setup CD if that will help (email: [email protected]).
Have any of you got any ideas on what is wrong?
Thanks guys
James

I think it will never work with your device.
All Wifi cards i know require a SDIO Port and the XDA I only has an SD Port.
So no chance to get it working....
Stefan

thats a real shame. is there any way to upgrade the xda to sdio?
Thanks james

WM2005 and SD-WIFI

WM2005 installed with success.
I'm trying to instal the WI-FI access : tried already odyssey client and socket drivers without success.
is there any drive working with m2005 for Wifi ?
SD Driver
I am using Ambicom SD Wifi... install their driver... running without problem
I'm using the socket SDIO WLAN card with the (sagem) smartphone drivers that I downloaded from the socket homepage.
It works.

Spectec Wifi
Hi I am using Spectec Wifi. It wont work.
Pretec SD WLAN card works fine with the supplied drivers. I was shocked as the drivers are so unreliable and need a soft reset 99% of the time to make them work under 2003se.
sagem Socket SDIO package is working perfectly for me with the Socket SDIO card tonight.

Hi simonxda,
Thanks for your information.
I have just tried the above driver with WM2005. It work.
Now the turn to look for chinese software.
have got my spectec last week and installed 1.24 drivers under wm5. works absolutely great. sometimes i have to re-insert the sd-card twice before the device recognizes the card. but thats the only issue and i think i can live with it.
the only lack is that there are only a few wifi-tools working under wm5. looking forward when the first devices with wm5 are on the market and the software producers are focussing on wm5 compatibility.
greets
peter
i have a sandisk sd wifi card, (without memory, wifi only) but i cant use wlan-tools anymore, only the sandisk drivers work.. (but wlan-tools has a better/cooler uinterface!)
Anybody knows some sort of program that works?
socketcom wifi with wm2005
work perfect with the socket SDIO WLAN card with the sagem smartphone drivers.
Can anybody upload working driver for sdio wifi win2005? my drivers from ambicom can't see AP

Not sure if this will work for you, but worth to try...
In my case I have a Socket Communications WiFi SD card and I installed the Drivers for Smartphone and it worked great...
Here it is, just copy to your PDA and install from there by clicking on the .CAB installer (accept defaults).
Good Luck!
Rayan
does wm2005 solve any of the problems with the 256mb/wifi card that doesnt work on the xda or is it a completely different issue.

8525 wont upgrade, Im a newb to these. Please Help!!!

I downloaded the only official update from the HTC america website and when I try and run the update, I lose my active sync connection. It stays connected until I try to run the software. Also, it works fine when transferring anything else like music, pics, or vids or whatever. I can usually figure stuff out, but since I just got this thing and Im no computer programmer I was hoping one of you genius computer guys could help me out.
shane
read the wiki ...
Thats funny, I knew someone one reply with that. I already have. I would try to upgrade using the sd card but the instructions are obviously for someone who know about the stuff. How about someone giving me some better instructions on how to use the sd card to upgrade. I dont get all the extract the .nbh file and do this that and the other. All I see on my pc is the program I downloaded. I click on it and it runs the program, I have no clue how to extract files by right clicking because there is no option when I right click to extract files.

If you have a computer with lots of stuff plugged in by USB, they are sharing the same 5V that is required by the Hermes.
IE - a computer with 6 port USB (3x2), each 2 USB are sharing 5V
plug 1 out and leave in hermes just for flashing period
so it get full 5v
Ok, I downloaded Winrar and tried to extract the .nbh file and that didnt work either. Instructions in wiki says put it in bootloader, but when I do, I get a screen with like four different colors...Not the one on the pic in the wiki. I only have two usb ports and this is from my laptop. I am only using one port when I try and I do have the power plugged in when I try. Its windows xp if it matters. Im at a loss. Does this mean I wont be able to upgrade my 8525 at all? Maybe someone can give some better instructions on going through the sd card and getting into the right bootloader mode?
Shane
anybody want to chime in and help me out here?
AS version is current?
have you tried out a different cable?
consider using a different pc/notebook.
first thing to do here is to troubleshoot connection with AS. once you fix that problem, you should have no problems upgrading..
also, make sure your device is not set on a power/battery saving scheme. make sure its set to be always on with external power.
It's normal that when you do the upgrade, your activesync it supposed to automatically disappear. I had the same issue and I downloaded the ATT official ROM from this site, using that to upgrade. It upgraded my firmware and WM6 also. After that, I use the unlock CID to unlock my phone and Ihave been able to do upgrade serveral WM6 after that ... Goodluck.
I presume you have HardSPL'd your phone?
I only now every flash from the MicroSD card, much safer than using USB as that can be very flakey depending on which machine your using it on.
gt2slo, you need to do a little more reading if you haven't already but flashing from the MicroSD is pretty straight forward. You have to open the ROM you are using with WinRAR and extract the .nbh file to anyway on your hard drive. It always works.
The screen you saw in the WIKI is the one that comes up after going into bootloader and the device sees a file called HERMIMG.nbh on the MicroSD card

What's the difference between this and WM5Storage?
Excellent..
Good.. Work well..
700MB -> About 5~6Min..
Program is too small, so I like it..
Thanks..
Thanks! It works great!!! There is even no need to reconnect the cable. Simple and fast. Do you know who is the developer?
Thanks. Works very well.
There are three options in the setting. Turbo ActiveSync, Normal ActiveSync, and Mass USB disk.
I set it to Turbo and thought that transferring files is a lot quicker than before now.
WIth Mass USB, I could only see the device but not the storage card or microdrive. Is this normal? Is there a way to see all three?
Thanks man ) Write speed is 3,3 mb\s, read is 3,5
Nice program, I find it works a bit better than WM5torage.
BUT !
Do not connect as a USB mass storage device when using Audio Manager for it will (and does, I tested) f*ck Audio Manager up (logical, since Audio Manager will detect that the microdrive's been used by another application and try to refresh its library, endlessly since the lock isn't removed until the device is disconnected).
Finally something that works better than WMStorage... but can't switch to storage card only the microdrice... even without this option i finally can replace my usb stick with a usb cable...
Yes! Hurrah!
Unlike WM5torage, in ANY of its versions, this works!
Even got Turbo Activesync working using the instructions on the last post on that thread linked above: when Generic RNDIS is detected and Windows asks for a driver, tell it to search in c:\program files\microsoft activesync\drivers and that did the job for me. Don't know if it's actually any faster than standard Activesync, but it couldn't be slower.
Thanks very much!
Thank you veru match

Okay, a follow up to that. The Turbo mode works by activating the network-via-USB. It works very well indeed here on my work PC, but doesn't on my home PC. It connects, but doesn't start the synch and just sticks on Looking for Changes.
I don't suppose anyone has a fix for that? Normal practice seems to be to untick the "Enable advanced network functionality" box, which is what this mode uses.

USB Storage
I have two issues: When I activate the attached USB file it disables Active Sync and secondly My computer doesn't seem to recognize it as a storage drive (I must be missing some type of PC USB file). Any suggested solutions would be greatful.
there will be a new utility in 4.0 of my roms. it is directly from htc.
It is possible to connect a flash disc to my athena?because i need space and the flash drives are bigger then the memory card.thx
Yes . You can - Athena has USB Host funcionality - You've to use 4in1 cable .

Can we find the utility from HTC without the ROM? I appreciate your work but I'm not a fan on changing my baby's ROM.
I trying to find references on Google for such tool without success.
Thank yopu in advance,

Please everyone excuse me for my ignorance....but what does this software/utility do?
I get the picture that it download directly to the Microdrive via active sync...is that right?

No NOT via active sync and that is the beauty ! you can go to any modern computer and *without* installing active sync get the microdrive to show up as a USB memory stick and transfer data.
Great!Thanks!

Sounds like a firewall issue. Try without firewall.

flash rom from a linux box

anyone know if this can be done? I haven't experimented with syncing my phone to ubuntu since I couldn't find my usb cable will be trying it tonight though. I thought id read people had issues doing it with vista so I was wondering if its possible with ubuntu.
I would like to know how to do this to because I use Macbooks and duel boot OS X and Ubuntu. Or if anybody knows how to flash from OS X that would be awsome to.

Never had an issue whatsoever with Vista. To be honest with you use the SD card method. Sooo much faster. As far as working in Ubuntu I would doubt it without some sort of Windows emulation.
virtual software // whine ...
you can probably use a virtual software to emulate windows XP and then do whatever you want to do to ur phone
here http://code.google.com/p/htc-flasher/
the sd card method won't work right for me since I don't have a card reader.
Use the SD card method. NueSPL will allow you to reflash the boot loader from the SD and it's very easy to reflash the ROMs after that. There's a couple of ways to get the files onto the SD card without a card reader, the most obvious is to download them using the 6800 itself, saving them to the card. Or you can use the Sync connection to copy the files. Or install WMStorage and have the computer treat the 6800 as a card reader. Or set up your email on the 6800 and email the rom files to yourself as attachments.

I run a wireless network at home. My computers and my titan can all communicate via the wireless network. A couple of my computers run webservers.
When I want to transfer something from a linux box to the phone without using the card reader, I just copy the file/program/whatever to the appropriate folder on a computer so that it's accessible via http. Then I turn on the wifi on my phone, connect with Pocket Internet Explorer to the IP address of the computer running a webserver, and download the file to the memory card.
Alternatively, I've seen ftp server programs for Windows Mobile. You could install one of those then ftp over wireless from computer to your phone.
Or, lets assume you don't even have a wireless network. You obviously have at least a wired internet connection, since you're posting something here. You could still install a webserver/ftp server on a machine, forward ports to it from the router (NAT), find out your public IP address, and then connect to your internal webserver from your phone using the public IP address on the forwarded port (I'm doing this with Finchsync so I can re-sync my calendars away from home).
Part of being a linux user means figuring out alternate ways of accomplishing tasks, as I'm sure you've already noticed. There's usually an answer out there, if you can step back and think about it. Sometimes it's elegant; often it's quick & dirty.
Edit:
For the record, I've never had any luck trying to flash my phone from a Windows VM inside of linux. ActiveSync could never recognize the phone right. I was using 64-bit VirtualBox, but you might have better luck with VMWare or 32-bit VirtualBox if you decide to go the VM route.
active sync is not compatable with wine. i never tried virtual box or vmware under linux. dcds kitchen wont work under wine because you cant run bat file. but the best bet is the sd card or sharing a folder on your box ( if u have wifi ) and useing an app on your phone that allows network browsing like resco. like mentioned above.
I tried just downloading the roms with the phone onto an sd card. but when I flashed the radio the phone wouldn't boot past the splash screen. how else would I get back to file explorer? after I flashed the radio wouldn't I need to rename the os rom to titanimg or whatever it is? then flash again? or is just one flash. that's the part I can't seem to understand in any guide I've found.
