Himalya Downgrade Problem - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 ROM Development

A friend has sent me an xda2 which he upgraded using an early 2005 image from the site, he has subsequently down graded it to a 1.72 rom image.
The problem liess in the autoinstal after reboot.
The unit powers up ok and seems to work fine but the extended rom cabs do not install at all.
Has anyone had this problem or now how to fix it.
thought id ask first befroe doing some more investigation (never enough time )

as per topic, i can use my ppc as a pc but not at all as a phone, and i d/l'd WM2003SE under the himalaya section of buzzdev.net and yet still no go, i have tried various ways short of obtaining my old 2003 (non-se)
im going crazy, so many little error's i've gone through lately and gotten over most so far, but my radio rom and being unable to upgrade/ downgrade/ flash modify at all, i don't know why, i cant connect to the ppc via activesync so i can't use getverdata or whatever app it is... in simple words i need help with my radio rom, how can i def. edit it, cause iwth hima upgrade i can't seem to.get it working.. boh i dunno it's sending me crazy
Which Himalaya model do you have?
i have an O2 XDAII, just the normal version, not XDA IIi, not XDAII mini or XDAIIs
i've fixed my OS to WM2005 BUT can't seem to fix and keep getting error 114 (radio rom upgrade error) which im currently trying to overcome.
Also, could it be something with my bootloader, i only run 1.02 or something (will change later if i'm wrong, but i dont think i am, currently trying another flash atm)
do i need a new bootloader, or should i not bother trying cause this probably wouldnt help fixing my problem?
thanks in advance
also, i can't seem to use activesync now either
and FYI im using WM2005 atm
hey, also, can i downgrade if i do upgrade my bootloader
Sounds like a major problem. I haven't tried restoring the bootloader from an SD card so I couldn't give you any direct advice. I'm sure someone with the expertise will be able to help you further.
Downgrading may help but I haven't done this before either.
Good Luck....

Your Radio ROM chip is probably faulty.
Had the same problem (read here)
My device went to repair centre.

I need some advice, regarding wether to flash XDAII or not..

I need some advice, regarding wether to flash XDAII or not..
I flashed my radio/ OS rom in one go a while back, and straight off the bat i had problems.
Basically, my radio rom died, then after a flash or two later, my OS rom died, and was stuck on splash screen.
I took the unit into O2 and they replaced free of charge (i was not under warranty.) (parts probably replaced: motherboard... not confirmed)
Obviously they didnt replace without a bit of a fight, anyways. back to my question..
I want to flash my OS rom only to either 2003se or 2005 because i love the aesthetics of landscape mode, mostly.
It's not vital for me, but i would like to have a more up-to-date OS (previously tried 2003se and 2005 on my xdaII before it died from flashing)
Should i take the risk with the fixed phone (same phone, just somehow fixed, assuming motherboard was replaced, because they said that was what failed in the unit) and flash to either 2003se or 2005, or just 'put up' so to speak, with 2003?
any information will be greatly appreciated
btw, my unit was bought in singapore, so if it might be a region problem, this info might help
thanks in advance!

I'm just about to come into possession of one.

...Details are best left private, but the unit was one of the first Atoms to be released. it has been upgraded to the Jan rom, and then left alone because its owner was, uh, more chicken than I am. The Mini I used to own will be going to someone else. >_>
I will miss Bigstorage, a small price to pay for (somewhat) limited Wifi and no longer having to fear losing all my data to a power out.
Few questions here:
1. Is it safe to use the Xda-Atom-Exec-ENG-20060721-MOT0822.exe from the FTP yet?
2. Should I use that or the Xda-Atom-ENG-20060426-MOT0822.exe ?
3. Is there a way to disable the message that refuses to run unsigned exes, or is there an exe signer anywhere? I remember it having problems with programs that don't need installation.
Thanks in advance.
...Just got it today.
Apparently it's been through the service centre once, so it's ROM turned out to be the 20060426 one - radio still at RS*49. Still wondering if I should flash for the new radio driver.
I've read through the forums and I think I won't be messing around with the Exec rom for now.
Thanks, all.
i currently using the Atom with Atom Exec ROM version Xda-Atom-Exec-ENG-20060721-MOT0822
and so far until now, no prob at all..
anyone know how to cook WM5 ROM in atom,
cause, i see to other forum, they have the ROM WM5 AKU3.5 into their device,,
why can we (atom) have that to??
Ehehehehehe. Finally took the risk, nearly lost my phone - tho it was easily fixed by flashing over with the same Exec rom again. The ROM I grabbed from the FTP right here on xdadev. <_<
See, a funny thing happened.
I installed the Extrom revealer hack for extra space.
Then I installed SKTools Trial 3.0.75 - and thereafter the Extrom revealer hack stopped working.
So my device asked me this question - "Do you want to format your Storage Card so it's easily readable?"
not wanting to get my 2gig eaten, I removed it, and tried to click NO... only I accidentially touched "Yes".
Whoops.
Everything just stopped working - well, except the phone and basic winDOS mobile 5 apps.
Soft reset - device took ages to boot. Nothing that isn't WM5 native runs.
Hard reset - device went wonky, still booted, but screen got out of alignment. Still usable, but autoconfig not working (detected Sim as jumble of numbers, but phone still works).
Went into device settings -> system info.
Guess what I saw:
CMOS: NULL (WTF)
ExtROM: NULL (WTF)
...correct
...correct
...correct
And upon looking at the Flash Size, I saw 192MB (?!). Fake number?
(No screenshots will be made avaliable. I will NOT do this again.)
Anyways, a reflash put the unit back in full working condition, problem, but I'm still seeing it report that I have 192MB of Flash RAM avaliable. Oy.
Still workink for now, but I hope this won't mess up the system any. -.-

help installing WM6.1 (ive read everything i can find)

Hi,
I have a MWG AtomLife running windows mobile v6 i have been trying to install version 6.1 using DSUU.
I get 1 of 2 problems using 2 different version of 6.1 the first problem is
Everything starts off fine, phone softresets but it boots into windows and the DSUU says it failed to connect. No damage to phone.
the seconed problem is it says the country region (or somthing along thoses lines) is wrong and its not compatible with my phone.
I would just like to point out this is MWG not a 02 i got this phone from Portix (the uk disti for MWG) 2 days ago.
Any advice is muchly appricated as i said i have read the wiki, every post i can find on it all the how-tos in the various version but to no avail.
Thanks
FL1X (not fl1c i typod while creating my username how annoyingly rookie of me)
PS> this is the version of 6.1 i was trying to install (using the inbuilt installer and also "pcinstaller1.zip" from another thread) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=413950 I know it says Exec so i tried this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=360664 again to no avail.
Update: just tried http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2433912&postcount=112 again same problem of the phone softresetting and booting back up loseing connection failing to install.
Hi, if you want to upgrade to WinMo 6.1then you cannot upgrade via DSUU. It is not possible till a DSUU is developed.
For upgrading you would need to use the SD card. Procedure is given in the last link you had visited.
P.S. Do not use ATOM Exec and HP update utilities on Atom Life. You might brick it.
Thanks Maniac, i will look into doing it that way over the weekend, in the event i brick it how can i return it back to the original version of wm6?
'brick it' means ur phone is dead. the term is kind of a metaphor. u can use ur phone as a brick

Hermes does not work anymore

Hello,
i am trying to install a the old WM 6.0 on my O2 XDA because the Hermes does not start every time i turn it on. The Problem is that the install stops at 12 %. After five our six trails the install rans through this point and completes the install. But this WM 6.0 has the problem that it will not boot every time, the phone-functions does not work every time and so on. So i tried to reinstall the OS and now i'm standing on 12 %.
The WM 6.0 install comes directly from O2.
Here the dates out of my bootloader:
HERM100
IPL-1.04
HERM100
SPL-2.10.Olipro
Sorry if my question is a little bit stupid. But my english is very bad (as you can see ) and so i can't find an answer.
Can someone help me?
Try to reinstall the shiiped carrier rom. The rom it originally came with.
Do this using the sd card method. Its safer, especially if you are flashing a radio rom.
Check for bad blocks. This could cause the original symptoms you said. Look in the upgrading ection for instructions...
Cheers...
Thanks for the infos, but i have phoned with O2 today. They will repair or exchange my device.
No my question is if i am allowed to change the bootloader to "SPL-2.10.Olipro" because i have done that
Or should i try to downgrade to an older version? Do you know which version was first on the device?
Thanks
push. Could someone help me plz?
If you're trying for a warranty service then it would be best to downgrade spl. However, you may not be able to....
Search the wiki for instructions, they are there...
Cheers...
Hmm damn, do you think they won't exchange the pda with the changed bootloader?
As you remarked it semms to be hard work to replace the bootloader by an old version.
There is a chance they MAY charge you for repairs or replacement. This can be VERY ouchy....Lotsa $$$.
Perhaps i should ask the hotline if it's okay or not. Even better than paying bills for sending in an bricked Hermes.
NOT OK... Changing the SPL on your Hermes is instant void warranty. You need to change it back.
Any idea on which version?
No one any idea which SPL original is on a Hermes?
Hey!
Now i have tried to downgrade to 1.10 Olipro, have installed a WM 6 Rom from HTC but nothing happend. The device works for the moment, but i am sure that the device will break down the next days again.
Any other idea how to downgrade to SPL 1.11? I am running out of time
No idea? Anyone? Running out of time (warrenty) ^^
