Is it safe to restore old rom after rom upgrate with sprite backup 5.0 or 5.1?Saw the sprite with rom upgrate restore funtion, anyone here can guide how to use the correct funtion..thanks..
No, isn't safe. After a new upgrade always you must set up your device from the beginning. I know, it requires time but it's the safest way.
Thanks Bill....

I upgraded my device to a new ROM. I did full backup with SPB Backup when I had an old ROM. Will I still have the new ROM after restoring backup? Or it changes to old ROM?
One of the backup software can be used for ROM upgrading. Check the forum on the backup guide by Menneisyys (I think).

did you follow the upgrade mode faq? most ppl dont thats why the restores buggy. If you follow the faq from start to finish (including backing up the oldROM without pop accounts) then the restore should be perfect after a ROM upgrade

Yes, that's what I do. I use spb sprite myself but there are other good backup software. After trying a new ROM, if I decide to go back I simply flash back the previous ROM, and do a restore.
mickey.lez, as eaglesteve mentions, there are other alternatives. I use SPB Backup. It has a ROM upgrade mode. That way, when I change ROMs, which I do more often here than changing underwear , I don't have to reinstall my software and email settings. And of course, if you want to revert to a prior ROM as you ask, you can do that too.
Another program for backup is Rescobackup , a simple program that you can set your data to backup and etc... but after i install un-official ROMs on my unit , it doesn't work properly and crash on every restore ...
But with official ROM working very well
I'm going to test SPB backup
thank's you all
i'll try it away and tell you what have done
flash back to WHAT previous ROM?

That's good, but how can I arrange to have the 'previous ROM' available to flash back? I don't have another copy of the ROM contents that came with the machine.
Thanks for all you do!
is there any way to backup whole rom?
if yes, is there any way to do it without hard spl flashing?

Yes, of course. I did the exact same thing 2 weeks ago when I got my new white X10!
Make a nandroid backup on the old phone, then power it off, take out the SD card and put in the new phone.
If you are on stock ROM, make sure you flash the same firmware version on the new one and then Root, install xRec and then restore your backup.
If you are on custom ROM, update it via PC Companion to the latest version, flash the correct baseband if needed, then Root, install xRec and then restore your backup.
You should be fine.
Thank you very "My_Immortal"
Did exactly what you explained; works like a charm!!!
Hi guys, I really need a big help over here . Before i flash my 2.1 to custom rom (the latest miui which looks very attractive ) i backup the rom using rom manager and flash my vibrant to the miui firmware then i backup it once more and i feel doesn't comfortable with it then i go for a backup again .When i intended to restore a error occur which is mdu5 missing (i think so) then i select my 1st backup (2.1) then i let my rom manager do it all but my vibrant NOW stuck in samsung home screen which doesn't move into vibrant screen . i try to get into download mode but no luck !!! Urgent need a big help !!!
By the way my vibrant is hardware locked .
ODIN to stock. From there root and flash the MIUI of your choosing. If you are trying to flash "ReVaMpEd" version, keep in mind you will still need to flash the "Original MIUI for US" first. Then the "ReVaMpEd". Either way that should get you to where you wanna be with MIUI, ENJOY!
If you ever plan to use the "nandroid" backup you made of the stock 2.1, you will need to ODIN back to stock, then root, and then restore the nandroid backup. Being that once on MIUI you will be on 2.3.5 gingerbread. You never wanna restore a backup of a different firmware then what you are currently running.
Good luck!

what he said above ....
i always almost prefer to Odin to stock even before I restore any backup. so I have a clean platform to work from.
Thanks for trying hard to solve my problem but the problem is .... i mention that my device is hardware locked means that i cant get through download mode ... is there anyway other way i can get into download mode ?
Buy a JIG. I honestly would keep trying the buttons though.
I know this is old but did you fix?
