xda II keeps shutting down ..long story - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 ROM Development

ok , bought a broken xda II fr 40 quid , the bottom connector had come off the mother board . Got a friend to solder it back on (he knows what he is doing).
great i thought .. plugged in the usb cable to the PC , power later came on .. great charging ...
but windows kept moaning that 'usb device not recognized'
installed active sync 3.7 , then 3.8 then 4.1 , (after unistalling old ones) but still no joy same error..
so i thought sod it .. lets try upgrading to 2005 ... obviouslly the upgrade program said it could not find the pda (as the usb is not working)
so i thought fair enough .. then the pda is dead now ? well sort of..
if i remove the battery for about 10 minutes .. when i put the battery back in it fires up with the install setup .. i get near the end of the install and it shuts down ??? and i cant power it up again , soft/hard reset does nothing .. i have to remove the battery and wait....
seems like it shuts down in the same place all the time ??
any ideas .. as i am not having a good day .. and this is just one item that is not working
cheers

I have same problem with my blue angel. It just working for about 50 sec and it turn off itself, and again,again.... It's only work on charger.
Any help
Sory for my English.

2last:
I'v got same problem on my imate PocketPC. And solution is to REPAIR (to replace or to resold) the connector (if error 'usb device not recognized' appears). Second, i had problems with charging-control chip. to get your device back try to replace this chip.
ps sorry for my wrose English.

My bottom connector is broken as well, Tried to solder but that did not work. I now removed it and can charge the battery in the cradle, get a hard reset , but I have loaded the device with 2005, so I get a useable device. for some reason my bluetooth sync does not work, so I am more or less stuck with the same problem as you are. On the backside, behind the battery cover, the connector for the backpack is present. This seems to use the same pins as the bottom connecor. Sofar I have not found a cable to use this connector as a means to charge and sync the device, so still no progress.

XDAII Died during upgrade to WM2K3SE !!

Dear Gurus ...
I need help. During the upgrading process, the connection was disconnected and my XDAII is currently not showing any sign of life.
I ran through the forum, and tries a lot of stuff:
1) try to reset it to bootloader (pwr+joy+reset) - nothing
2) change USB port - nothing
3) setting in MsActiveSync - nothing
There is no display on the screen right now. Even if I put it in to charge there is nothing, no flashing blue led etc ... just dead ....
One thing I noticed is that after removing the battery, and putting it into the cradle, there is a red led light up.
Currently I ran out of options and can only think off taking out the battery for the XDAII to drain completely (not sure if this could help me get into the bootloader mode).
Any one out there who has any bright ideas? Pls help as I am desperate to fix my XDAII .... thanks ....

I had the same problem but I didn't loose hope. I kept on resetting it until I was able to get into the bootloader mode. It was black with some writings "SERIAL 1.06". When I put it back on cradle, Serial changed into USB 1.06. Tried to do the upgrade over and over again but didn't work. I put AC Adapter to my cradle and hard reset my unit, put back to the cradle, started the upgrade again and it worked.

There are several Golden Rules when upgrading - not just to SE, but any upgrade.
Always make sure the cradle is attached directly to a USB port on the PC and not through a hub.
Always make sure the power supply is connected to the cradle.
Disable USB in Activesync connection settings.
Disable any screensavers
If an error does occur, putting your device into bootloader mode and restarting the upgrade often proceeds OK.
Bootloader mode can be a little tricky to obtain as the multi-directional button has to be pressed directly down in the middle - not tilted up, tilted down, tilted left or tilted right, at the same time as pressing the power button and the reset switch.
It is very easy to assume bootloader is not working when it may just take several attempts before you get it right.

My qtek2020 dead because it's my mistake I upgrade it to SE correctly but with Chinese Version and before DCS post his ROM when I saw it's working better than my PDA2K I try to flash my qtek2020 with the PDA2K ROM ( I make some HEX editing ) but with no luck my qtek2020 is totally dead
Any body have solution !
How I recover from my dead XDA II ..
I have to agree with DCS that those are the rules and you need to follow them properly. It's not the ROM that's having the problem but the procedure needs to be followed.
In my case I didn't have the Sync cable properly connected (I bought a new sync cable & I didn't use the cradle) to upgrade the XDAII (duh!).. and I paid the price of having my heart droped on the floor ..
My nightmare started when the cable came loose halfway through the upgrade, so the XDA kind of "hung" and when I tried to reset it, it refuse to show any signs. Do a small test. My guess is as long as you take out the battery, put the XDA II into the charger (without a battery), and the red light comes on, that's a good sign.
For those who is stuck in this situation try this steps:
1) Remove the main battery
2) Leave it out for at least 30mins (to drain the backup battery)
3) Go make your self a coffee or watch TV (time flies faster than staring at your XDAII)
4) Put the battery back (at this stage it still won't work)
5) Put the XDAII into the AC Charger (give it a good 5mins charge)
6) Then keep doing the hard reset (just don't give up, it's like doing CPR, your XDAII will show "Serial 1.06" after a good hard resets ...)
Those steps above did work for my XDAII .... and it should work for most cases as I believe when we upgrade (the ROM) we don't touch the bootloader. Sometimes when we screw up, the XDAII got "hung" and it needs a good "cold boot". Taking the battery out won't help because the backup battery is still in. After a good "cold boot" the XDAII will boot into the bootloader and you can resume your upgrade ;-)
NOTE : Do keep your fingers cross through out the entire process.
PS: Thanks to DCS, Twinkle, mamaich and many others who contributed to this fine forum ... Long live the XDA I, II, IIs, III .... beyond ....
How to upgrade my BOOOTLOADER VERSION (it shows USB 1.01)
Is there a way to change my bootloader version from USB 1.01 to 1.06? I'm currently using T-Mobile MDA-II.
Thanks beforehand!
I have a big problem: this summer i dropped my MDA2 on a concrete floor and i broke the power button so I cant make anything but soft reset, or to remove the battery for 30 min for hard reset.

Thanx to dcs i was able to get my device working again.
During upgrade (wich was also possible due to time and effort by DCS) my laptop went into standby for unknown reason.
So my xda got stuck in T-Mobile bootscreen
It was this thread and especially the posting by dcs wich saved my ass (and xda)
for i did not know about the reset with third button to get into bootloader.
Now i finally upgraded to 2003SE.
Thanx DCS!!

XDA battery problem (I THINK LOL)

hello All
I had a xda 1 that was showing the picture of just t.Modile when it was turned on. Well thats what I was told on ebay. Anyway I got the unit thinking i would be able to try the rom thing and update it ok. Anyway when it came the bat was flat. So today a cradle and charger came. I pluged in the xda and then the charger and it came on straight away ( dont know if it should do this) any way it came onto the t mobile screen like i was told. So thought i would leave it till it was charged. I was doing other work when i heard it ping. I looked at it and it said welcom to windows 2003 which i thought great. went through the setup and it all seems working. I tried to switch it off in the cradle but it would not let me It this correct? Anyway I took it from the cradle and switched it off and tried to switch it back on but it would not come on. So i put it back in the cradle and it switched straight on. No waiting for the set up screen again.
Firstly should it switch on as soon as you put it on the cradle and should you be able to switch it of whilst in the cradle. Also does the problem i have described above point to the battery being buggerd?
Many thanks And any help much appreciated
regards Andy
Most likely the battery is dead. Had the same problem. I have bought a new 1700mAh battery for my XDA 1 at eBay, price incl. shipping €20,- Works like a charm again.
Hello
Riight a bit more information on the XDA1 I Have I have took it apart and tested the battery it only reads 3.4 volts I take it that the correct voltage is 3.7 volts so i would say its the battery.
Another problem i have knoticed is when i put it in the cradle from dead and it starts up it stops on the t mobile screen for a while (about 10 mins) before going to the main 2003 screen and while it is in this screen i cannot do nothing at all with it (Buttons or stylus), Is this correct. any help would be great thanks.
One last question the unit is a O2 unit and i think it hase been flashed to give it w2003 op sys Now how would i keep this operating system but get it back on O2 thanks in advance,
regards Andy
Doesn't sound right to me. Boot after warm reset of my 3.5 years old XDA I takes 5 secs max, no more. Boot after a cold reset also takes just a few secs, before I see the O2 bubbles boot screen.
You could try the "latest" PPC 2002, to see if the device is still that slow at boot time.
What I am thinking is this is under mains power only not batery is this the reason its actingh like this? the main battery is only 3,4 volts does this point to a failed battery?
regs Andy
Is any GSM error displayed on screen??
Hello
No only thing is when i try to load the phone program it says only emergency calls without pin?
Thanks Andy
Was judt thinking about using the special rom but not sure how to eiter via the cradle into the xda or onto the sd card then see what happens? way out of my leauge at the moment you read that meny conflicting items I dont think i can get it into bootloader because of the batt fault in that if i take it off cradle and switch it off it wont come back on till its pluged back on the cradle LOL so im lost I think i will have to get a batt first. What voltage is your reading pls and do you think a batt at 3.4 is knakerd thanks again ( me rambling on and on sorry)
re XDA
One thing i have just seen when looking throug the hardware items it gives the rom version and rom date but it is blank at radio version and protacol version. Should these be blank
Also there is no imei number shown in the Identity all it shows in there is H/W Pw10B1 and platfprm PocketPC.
Thats about it
thanks andy
Looks like you need to flash a new ROM; http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Wallaby
Re the above XDA
Hi Again Firstly can anyone confirm that a battery is dead when it only reads 3.4 volts after hours in the charging cradle? Before I get a new one
Secondley if it is dead I asume that i will have to get a replacment one if i am to flash the rom correct? ( it cannot be done on mains power alone due to the need to remove from the cradle for a soft reset? CAN IT?)
Next I have a SD card 512 and also a external SD card reader/writer (usb) how is the best way to go about flashing it afterwards? Do i write a the rom to the sd card via the external reader/writer and then insert into xda? and do the soft reset thing?
What would be the best and most stable rom to go for pls. Or should i use the site with the cooking roms on.
The XDA is a O2 but shows T-Mobile on start up ( would like it back to original if poss)
The UNIT is a pw10a (stamped on the back) but if it shows in the h/w as pw10b when the unit is switched on? and as said does not show a wireless version or a emei num although it is stamped on the XDA/
Any Help much appreciated . I just seem to be getting my head in a right knot with this one.
Many Thanks
Andy

Wallaby does not charge

Hi,
I have an O2 XDA 1. This morning I noticed the battery was empty so I tried plugging it in to charge. The orange light does not come on and the battery does not charge no matter how long I leave it on. I have tried it both in the cradle and with an adaptor but still nothing happens. I even changed the internal battery but it is still the same.
Any ideas as to what i can do?

I try to remember what i have done before... then.. i remember..
Before i try to recharge, my friend was try to connect his Universal USB Cable for his HP IPAQ (I forget the series) to my Wallaby and his PC detect and try to Synch my Wallaby but the charging indicator doesn't lite.
I Think, Maybe.. something wrong with the electricity, amphere, voltage, or whatever that comes out from his Universal USB Cable.
I have been hard reset and go to boot loader to see the Battery test, but doesn;t help..
Any body can help us??

That´s the problem. Ipaq has other Pin layout, so you have damaged something in your device. I´m giessing, that the fuse is blowen away...

Oh my..
My Wallaby was physically broken because the shortcircuit, right?
I affraid the money i must to spend to repair will be the same like i buy it (second hand)..
Nothing i can do but go to repair shop, right?
You can try fixing it yourself. You can check if the fuse is not working any more and you can replace it, if you´re kind in soldering....
Stefan
Hello LumpiStefan,
It was a long time no see.
Still use the wallaby with ROM cooked by your ROM Cooker until now.
I just wan to give my credit to you LumpiStefan.

Wallaby charging problem
Hi guys,
I have a charging problem too. I have a wallaby. when i put it onto cradle led turns to amber and then immediately to green. Settings > Power section says the battery full of 100%. But when put off it from cradle, 1 minute later, it goes off. I changed the battery with a new one. still same problem. I also checked two fuses located on both side of the main board. They are OK. No fuses blowned.
So, don't know what to do. it actually works very well but charging problem. I don't want to throw it away. any other external charging device is OK for me.
I need your helps. Thanks.

Hello all. This is my first post.
I've used my Wallaby for many years. Yesterday it doesn't start anymore and if I put it into the cradle no light is displayed.
Last change I did was to replace my GSM SIM card with a UMTS one; since that moment it doesn't work anymore.
You were talking about fuses... Where are they located exactly ? What kind of fuse are they ? How can I check if they're blowned ?
Moreover.. I've a backup of my Wallaby... eventually is there any emulator where I can resume/restore all my contacts ?
Thanks,
Marco

[Solution] Worst battery scenario and impossible boot

Hi all,
I just want to share the solution I used to solve a big shared problem I had with my X10 Mini. During a call my battery went so down I couldn't even turn it on without any sign of hope. As we know in this cases the phone CAN'T charge itself cause it need a software "help" and without a minimal charge the phone is dead. In my case scenario even with Seus holding back the button couldn't solve it.
I decided to solve it without taking it to the 60km away SE support center and:
- taken apart a usb data phone cable
- divided the red wire and the black one
- considered that the USB port gives 5v at 0.5ma
- taken apart the phone case and the rubber cap on the top of the phone
- take out the battery wires connector from the logic board
- inserted red + wire into red hole of the battery connectore and same with the black ones
- connect it to the usb port of a spare computer (you could sacrifice it if something goes wrong)
- wait for a hour to have a good charge starting point
- disconnect everything, reconnect connector, close case and connect to the normal micro usb cable
- evrything will charge as usual.
NOTE: If someone try at his personal risk, BE CAREFUL cause if something cause wrong you could ruin battery, or logic board or pc motherboard!!!
See attachment.
Bye
Nice hack!
Thanks for sharing.
Sent from my E10i using XDA App
Good job, but did u try to charge for a few hours without SIM card? Because I already drained completly and solved problem just removing SIM, putting to charge and waiting. After 2 or 3 hours the system start to charge normally.
WTF? This phone has this problem? Did 2.1 fix it? My wife has the habbit of letting her mobiles die.
I hope that she will not need to take out the SIM card every week to charge her phone.
Thanks for the share by the way.
Yeah this phone got this problem and it's quiet usual I see in different forums. But not always it drains so much like me. I did the BIG error to try a couple of times to turn it on. I tried any combinations of tricks with or withous sims differents ones, different buttons, different charger, etc.... No way! I think that SE support centers has got some kind of charger that has got the female connector of the battery to solve this problem.
Ah I now realised you have a mini and not a mini pro, as mini pro's can have their batteries removed.
I hope I will not have to solve this problem , any time soon.
Good to know anyway.

[Q] Bad charger and Galaxy S2 detects USB connection with nothing connected!

Too bad that last thursday I used the charger from a kit similar to this (link found in the forum 3 months ago).
(h**p://w*w.befr.ebay.be/itm/Dock-Sync-Cradle-USB-Charger-For-Samsung-I9100-Galaxy-S2-II-Plug-/260876977248?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item3cbd7ac460), directly (without the cradle)
It was the first time I use the power adapter directly to recharge my phone.
And since thursday my phone detects unexpectedly usb connection (and says I ave to close all aplications to use with Kies etc...).
I suppose it is no coincidence and that this fu***** charger damaged a capacitor or another electronic component of this kind inside my phone!?
What do you think ?
What can I do? Send it using warranty? Disable USB detection (how?)?
Thanks a lot in advance for your help!
Edit: Now the phone is not recognized when I connect it to computer (usb) or it starts the car mode!!!
A lot of people have this. Try brushing the usb connector on the bottom of your phone using a CLEAN and DRY toothbrush.
I had this problem, this fixed it for me ever since. Also bending the connector a TINY bit to the middle of the hole may help. But watch out, as it's horribly thin.
Two connectors are bent because of your new charger, or dust is causing the problem.
Thanks for this first answer! But...
Three others things (I've cleaned the connector as you said to):
The screen lights up by itself, too! And 9 times out of 5 when I press the power button (in order to lock and switch off screen) the phone just freeze and the only way to get it back again is to remove/replace battery!
By the way the battery drains faster than usual!
Do you still think it's only a matter of dust/connector (just asking but strange coincidence...)!?
Hello I have exactly the same problem since 2 days first it started thinking its connected to the USB, second thing is it wakes up soon after you have put it down and if you press the power button it freezes I have tried it more than 50 times and it freezes every time (when its connected to the charger only froze once) and today when i try to connect it to the USB nothing happens.I have tried Hard Reset , restore to a stable setup with CWM but it wont help. This happened when I got home after I was 2 hours outside working and it was very cold and moist but I only had the phone outside my pocket for 1 - 2 minutes to make a call and some very tiny drops got on the screen.I regret taking it with me if I only knew that was going to happen. One other thing I had an App to track the battery state and now when the phone thinks its connected yo USB but its not the program says my battery is over voltaged. What happened with your phone . Can someone help
