Memory allocation, T-mobile stored install data - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 ROM Development

I decided to have a go at ROM upgrade, originally had WM2003.
upgraded to the WM2005 and everything worked ok, but memory was reduced from 128 to 64.
I then had problems installing tomtom 5 and also would no longer communicate with a PC,
Decided to go back to WM2003, but could only find a 2003SE ROM.
anyway installed that, and when it booted, memory was back to 128 and it also started installing all of the T-mobile programs again,
Is there any way to remove this installer? or remove the programs, as most came up with a message that they were for an older version of windows.
they did not install on WM2005 though, which probably explains the missing memory.
this has cured the problem of communicating with a PC, now detects the device correctly and starts activesync.
I have looked in the remove programs to try and uninstall the T-mobile data, it would be good to get rid of it and free up more memory, does anyone know how to do this?

wm2005 beta that you used
use the FLash of storage and extented rom for data
and all the ram on the device as normal ram
because devices not made for 2005 only have 32MB storage
people cant install much on their device
on 2003 ram is devided between normal ram and Data ram
where you install programs
ppl made it so they use some of the 128Program ram as a ram disk
so they have more storage space then 32MB
this is why your device only had 64MB because the rest was made into a ramdisk
when a 2003 device hardreset some of the storage called extented rom have programs which are auto installed
on 2005 that space is used for normal storage
so programs dont auto install on 2005
if you unlock your extented rom Look Wiki.xda-develoers.com
you can remove cab files you dont want it to auto install when you use 2003 you just unhide and unlock the extented rom remove the cab files you dont want remove their entry from the config.txt and lock and hide the extented rom again and hardreset

Question about ext rom

Ciao,
I've a question about the ext rom, maybe it's an old question, but i tried to search and i didn't find anything...
The progs in the ext rom where will be installed? In the rom (where the OS stay) or in the ram ?
And if is it possible to install progs in the rom..how is it possible?
Thanks
Fabio
The programs will be installed in the default location of the CAB file (ie. RAM).
You can get the Ext ROM unlocker tool and it will show up as a 16mb Storage card; however, don't see why you would want to install application here. It's only 16mb

Clean method to upgrade wm2005 to Stor. 30Meg & prog. 12

Here is an interesting method I discovered while I was fooling around with my phone. You can apply Buzz's patch ( Hima_DOC_Tool ) on your existing wm2005 v1.6a without having to downgrade to wm2003 and then upgrading again to wm2005. And the best part is that u get one unified storage mem of 30.04 Megs and a Program mem of 120 Megs
Follow the following steps carefully ...
WARNING : Before doing anything, Back up all your data by reading Buzz's new article on how to back contacts and appointments from wm2005. www.buzzdev.net
1. Download the Hima_DOC_Tool v1.0 from www.buzzdev.net
2. Download the Extended_ROM_Unlocker_wm2005 from www.buzzdev.net
3. Download the Storage Control Applet from www.buzzdev.net I think this applet was designed my mamiach
4. Download StorageTools For HIMALAYA WM5.0 (ExtROM to Storage) from www.buzzdev.net
5. Install the Storage applet in your windows folder
6. Install the Extended_ROM_Unlocker_wm2005
7. Unhide your extended rom and unlock it, u should have the extended storage showing up on your device after soft resetting
8. Then install StorageTools For HIMALAYA WM5.0 (ExtROM to Storage), this will rename your Extended Storage Drive to Storage, so you will end up with a Device mem of 14 Megs and a Storage of 15.05 Megs and Program mem of 120 Megs
9. Install the Hima_DOC_Tool v1.0 by copying it on your SD-Card and running it from there after reading the instructions. Once you run this, it will merge Device 14 Megs and Storage 15.05 Megs to one Drive as Storage 30 Megs. If you run the Hima_DOC_Tool v1.0 before doing the previous steps, the software will fail to do anything.
10. Do a soft reset, this reset will initialize a hard reset as a result of the new merged drive.
11. Restore your data by reading Buzz's article.
Happy Upgrading, Derek
Special thanks goes to Buzz

WM2005 - Hard reset

Hi!
As we know the Himalaya has 128MB RAM. On the other hand the HTC Universal/Exec uses 128MB ROM. Can WM2005 itself creates an equivalent ROM in the Himalaya?
My question is if I upgrade to WM2005 for my Himalaya does a hard reset wipes everything off my RAM/Big Storage and default to factory settings?
If I'll to install programs into the ROM of the Universal/HTC will a similar hard reset wipe the info from my ROM?
Thanks
himalaya use the extentedrom and storage as the persistent memory which will not be deleted on a hardreset
check out buzzdev.net for more info
universal and other devices made for 2005 only use flash for storage so it dont loose data on nobatt or hardreset
RE
Hi Rudegar,
Thanks for the info.
So, in the case of upgrading to WM2005 for the Himalaya the storage area (RAM) has been effectively enlarge to form the persistent storage, right?
Well, in both cases (Himalaya and WM5 devices) how to remove programs (not just cab files) that are installed in the persistent storage? Go into the persistent stoarge and manually remove them or is there an easier way?
Thanks again
RE
Hi Rudegar,
I think I did not elaborate my last sentence. What I meant was after a hard reset am I suppose to go into the persistent storage area (for the WM5 upgraded Himalaya and the WM5 device) and manually remove all the installed programs?
Many thanks
yes depending on which buzzdev rom you use the extentented rom and storage will be merged into a persistent space
and you format the persistent space from inside the 2005 bootloader

Program vs. Storage memory in WM 6.1?

I built and loaded DCD's 2.3.0 kitchen last night. First I built and loaded his bare kitchen and got pretty much the same memory numbers as in his first post. When I added a bunch of extra OEMs I expected the free program memory to go down, but was surprised to see the total storage memory go down too.
What caused the total storage memory to go down? Roughly 10 MB got loaded into storage memory, so is there a way to force more apps into that memory and free up more program memory?
In the screen shots below, the green one is DCD's (from 2.2.0 I think) and the blue one is mine with 2.3.0 and the loaded kitchen, immediately after a reboot.
Maybe I can explain this better. I'm trying to load as much stuff in the kitchen as I can, while still having a stable and usable device, but maybe that's the wrong way to go about it.
Is there a way with the kitchen to force more apps to install to storage memory or the storage card, and free up more program memory? If not, can this be done with UC?
Would installing some of my kitchen OEMs to the storage card as CABs instead, either manually or with UC, increase my free program memory?
If you are familiar with how a computer works, you should think of it this way:
Strorage Memory = Hard Drive
Program Memory = RAM
SD Card = External Hard Drive
So, as you build various programs into your custom ROM, they may (depending on the program) take up both Storage and Program Memory. An example of a program which would do this, for instance, would be SPB Weather. Why? Because (a) you load the program into the ROM, where it gets installed onto your Storage Memory. Then, when you turn your phone on, SPB Weather automatically runs, so it's also taking up some Program Memory as well. If a particular program you load into your ROM does not automatically start with the phone, then it would only take up Storage Memory and NOT Program Memory, until such time you actually run the program.
Loading programs onto your SD Card instead of the Storage Memory would obviously give you more free Storage Memory, but it may or may not give you more free Program Memory, again depending on what particular program you are loading. Additionally, many programs run slower (or might even be incompatible) running off the SD Card.
Thanks for the explanation, I think I've got it now. So installing a program, whether through burning with a kitchen as an OEM, or separately with a CAB, makes no difference to the amount of program memory used? Installing to the storage card, or extended ROM if unlocked, only reduces the amount of storage memory used, right?
If this is correct, it sounds like if I will be burning often, installing a minimal kitchen with only the OS and other necessary system files, using OEMizer to personalize the kitchen, then using UC to install all the extras as CABs from the storage card, sounds like the most efficient way to go. Do you agree?
I haven't read up on UC yet, but will it allow installs from the storage card to the storage card?

About Storage Memory?

how can we increase storage memory? i have only 1.25 mb and it sucks. i used many tools to clean memory but i did not get the result i expected...i use 6.1 pro.
Install a new rom without programs (clean) and put all programs on storage card
is there a clean rom for erofich's 6.1 pro??
No !!
this is my big problem with startrek !
erofich's pro rom is great ... but after installing it , you have about 9 MB of storage space .
so when you add some necessary apps to device ... the drama is begin !!!!!!!!
there is no clean version of this rom . however , with a clean rom you must install further applications and in the end ... the results is same !
best way : buying singular 8125 with 128 MB ram !!
but i love this phone
anyway, after installing a navigasion program with some other necessary programs like dictionary gprs counter, i got only 1 mb free space i wish there could be a solution but nothing to do thnx by the way...
maybe all your apps installed in memory phone ??
if you can forget the pro rom , you can use from Erofich's clean rom ( the lightest wm 6.1 rom )
after installing that , you must first install the .net 3.5 compact for installing other apps . but for me , after installing all my necessary programs , finally about 10 MB storage space is reserved ...
remember that you must all apps in staorage card
no, i never install apps in phone mem.
maybe i will give it a try thx...

And when i look the memory storge i see only:
-4.82 MB(Tatal memory storage)
-2.3MB in use and
1.78MB free
And like you know the real total memory storage is: 60MB.
Please help me!!!!!!It happen after i update it to Wm6.1
