is there a way to sync outlook express emails on your computer to your pda....a software like that ? each time i connect my pda to the cradle all my messages in my outlook express a/c get sync'd to my pda email a/c ?
i knw there is a way to do it by sync'zing outlook express mails to microsoft outlook and then from microsoft outlook to the pda. but i would like to know if theres a way to do it directly

thanks for the reply, but i should have mentioned that ive already visited www.syncdata.it and downloaded the software sync express, all it does is sync ur pocket emails onto your pc/laptop, it does not sync the pc/laptop outlook express mails to your ppc.
any other ideas ?

well yes it does the work.....but the old mails which are stored in outlook express are not sync'd only the new ones that come in are sync'd to ppc also http mails are not supported. so i decided to download pocket msn only....which works fine for me as ive purchased it, the only issue is that only i can now sign in on my ppc my gf cant sign in frm her email id on the ppc msn....

My outlook contacts folder is full of crap. Lots of email addresses I never ever use and I don't really want them on my xda.
Is there some way to make the XDA synchronise with a different location on the PC so that I can back up my contact list on the xda but without downloading all the useless bumf from outlook?

- you won't be able to synchronize with Outlook Express...that's why they provided a copy of Outlook with the device.
However, if you are interested in synchronizing with other contacts folders give this a try.

a while of fiddling actually brought up this simple (?) solution -
every contact i make on my xda i put into the "xda" category. Then when I sync i tell them to only sync the "xda" category.
That outlook plugin does look interesting - thanks for the link!

I'm about to upgrade to the latest ROM, and I think I need to save my contact list before I do it - is that right?
However, in activesync, there is no check-box to tick next to contacts, so it can't synchronize them for me. I use outlook express, so I thought it should be simple enough. What's wrong?
Is there any other simple way of retaining my contacts during an upgrade, because I'm not really fussed about having them on outlook.

Aaargh - please help!!!
After Rudegar's suggestion to use Outlook 2002 rather than Outlook express, I fished out the CD that came with my XDA II and installed Outlook 2002 and activesync onto a new PC.
Activesync connects OK and tries to sync my contacts as I wanted it to, but Outlook is messing about, and the contacts end up unresolved. When I try to do anything to do with contacts in Outlook, it says "Could not open the Item - try again". Even simply manually creating a new one.
So I thought I'd set up an email account - perhaps I need one to have contacts, but the help file says to go to "Tools" and "Email accounts", but there isn't an "Email accounts" option on the tools menu!
Outlook is really hacking me off now - all i want to do is to have somewhere to store my contacts whilst I do a ROM upgrade - this is CRAZY!!
PLEASE help - this is doing my nut!

did you set up your mail account in the inbox of your device ?
if you click the account menu and choose new account you should begin setting up your account
about the resolve conflicting then under options in activesync there are a place where you set up rules as to how activesync handle conflicts
also people seem to be reporting issues with usb'ing their xda devices with
windows 9X (ME) series os
I'm not sure I understand - I don't actually use pocket outlook on the device. I was talking about setting up an account on my laptop so that outlook 2002 would allow me to have a contact list on the laptop which I would then use to store the contacts on whilst I do a rom upgrade on the XDA II....
contacts is pocket outlook along with the calander and tasks and appointments
if you mean that you had issues setting up an account on the outlook on the pc then choose tools
choose services
and add mail
there isn't a services item on my tools menu...

My Out2K3 hasn't this feature too. How did you get?
I bought the Office 2003 package, just install Outlook 2003 with it. It is embedded the SMS function.

As I said, I have Outlook2003 too (from Off2K3 Pro version), but it only synchronizes e-mails to "account" ActiveSync on my XDA2.
Could you post some screenshots, please?
Would you try to Open your Active Sync then "Tools" --> "Options..." --> select Inbox --> "Settings..."
You will find there is an check box for SMS sync. I had check that box but nothing happen after sync.
With Outlook 2K3, when you select Mail, you will easily found there is a SMS folder under Personal Folders :?
Sorry for I do not know how to capture the screen for you.
Hm... My ActiveSync will open window Opening settings when I click on Settings button, after while it's closed and nothing happens... :? :x

I have Office 2003 (with Outlook) as well. I do not see SMS in ActiveSync Inbox Settings either. In fact, it has never been there.
I do not believe this can work with ActiveSync alone. What ActiveSync is showing you are the folders in your server mailbox. It would be possible to create a folder named SMS and sync that, but it would not contain the SMS messages from your mobile . . . the SMS account in your Pocket Outlook is just that, another account. This can not be synchronized with a folder - it's an apples vs. oranges thing.
There may be another tool that can do it, but I do not believe ActiveSync can do it.
OK - I guess your screenshot has proven me wrong.
What server software are you using for your email (connecting Outlook 2003 to)?
Is it MS Exchange, Lotus Notes, something else?

Sorry that I am not so good in software. I do not use a server for email. I just using a stand alone Outlook 2K3 in my personal computer.
Does anyone know of a solution to provide HTML email to the outlook account with an Exchange 2003 server ?
I know that this is not the default behaviour and that MS want customers to upgrade to Ex2007, however I can't justify the time, cost and effort for this even though I think it will improve the email significantly.

AFAIK, it requires Exchange 2k7 (that was what I was told by the people who support our exchange box). Would be interested to find out if there is another way.

It looks like it does but then it uses IMAP, so even the built in email client will work with IMAP. I might give it a try.
Surely MS should understand that very few customers can simply upgrade to Exchange 2007 without a lot of effort and therefore won't do it quickly. Why couldn't they just build this functionality into the version we are all using ?
If only I knew who to ask at MS I would ask them .....

Initial findings on Flexmail are very good, I have the trial version and after a bit of mucking about I have replicated my Exchange email account into Flexmail and am getting puch email via the IMAP IDLE.
HTML emails seem very good, better than I expected (not sure why !) & even though the HTML can't be sent back out this is not a major problem (they are working on it).
$29 has got to be a better bet than buying a 64bit server to run Exchange

it does NOT require ES2007, but you'll need Office Mobile 6.1 AND your ES needs to allow HTML (ES can be configured to convert incoming html-mail to text-only-mail).
I got an Exchange 2003 at home, I use Exchange Active Sync and I definitely receive HTML (after upgrading to Office Mobile 6.1).

MS Exchange 2003 does not support HTML natively. Doesn't work with Flexmail either. Flexmail will show HTML for pop or imap, but not exchange server (unless it is configured to allow imap) But MS Ex 2003 will send HTML if it is configurd to allow IMAP. Then it will natively allow HTML even without Flexmail. ANother problem with MS active sync, it only allow MS Exchange sync with one Exchange server. To get around this, set one exchange to use Imap.
Imap is so much slower than MS Exchange sync and it uses more battery, because you hae to schedule IMAP to check for mail every 5,10,15 minutes or more. But if you are using EX 2003 and want html email or want to sync with more than one exchange server, IMAP definitely does work. I currently sync with three Exchange servers. Problem may be that most ex administrators will not want to add Imap to their ex server. It does not take long to add imap functionality to an already running exchange server.

and sorry eagle 1, but exchange 2003 allows html with exchange active sync, you don't need imap neither pop, but you definitely need Office Mobile 6.1, which is available as an update somewhere on xda-developers. In case of number of exchange servers, you are right, only one is possible with active sync.

Only Exchange Server 2007 will do this, I have spent most of today getting an Exchange 2007 server up & running to prove the point, it does work although whether it is worth the effort & money is another thing.
You'll need a 64 bit server & OS as well as the Exchange 2007 license.
That said, if you have those things it works quite well.

Hi folks,
attached a screenshot of my exchange version and one of an exisiting mail with hyperlinks on my ameo (outlook account with active sync).
Exchange Version is 2003 !!! (included in small business 2003)
Mail got a hyperlink, so it is definitily html !!!

tsfnet - my emails have hyperlinks but they don't have html.
Full html email allows you to see html pages like you would view them on a web page including all pics and formating, not just hyperlinkz.
Looks like I'm going to have to wait for Exchange 2007 after all
I have just set up an sbs 2003 server with exchange working and as far as I can make out HTML emails are okay to the desktop both sending and recieving, but are only sent to your mobile as text emails with hyperlinks.
Best bit about using exchange server is the fact that as soon as you alter/update add a contact, task or calender entry a couple of seconds later your desktop outlook is updated.
Having a mobile phone, desktop and laptop all synchronised with the same info is a blessing, no more duplicated entries that i was previously having.
If i want to see the full html version of the email I can wait till i get to a computer.
Its nice having access to my outlook information from desktop/laptop/mobile and from over internet and it all being in sync.
If anyone is interested in having a go with exchange drop me a pm. Going to limit this to the first 3 people, may open it up to more later.

Hate to awaken a sleeping thread, but I have and iphone that syncs with my exchnage server (2003), and IT CAN RECEIVE HTML EMAILS from exchange. NO ****.
So... where is the limitation. Is it real?
Exchange 2003 actually DOES send HTML e-mail, without "Office 6.1". You need to upgrade to SP2 or later for it to work. I've done it in the past, at the time when "Office 6.1" wasn't out, and it worked perfectly fine. I have since upgraded to an Exchange 2007 server, so no more worries
A little late to this thread, but I have just now encountered this issue.
Similar to rklosinski, a colleague gets the same emails on his iPhone and messages do appear in HTML format. This formatting must be on the client/phone side.

I have been used to using Windows MyPhone for doing a on-line backup of my contacts from WM 6.5. This application and Windows MyPhone service is gonna be removed, so I wanna ask, what I can use instead of that? I have never found some frontend application for WM 6.5, that supports SkyDrive.

Use Live hotmail. When you sync with Windows Live, your mail/appointments/contacts will be sync.

This has always worked well for me. As far as i know there are two ways of doing it:
Use the Windows Live app, which will sync your contacts and email.
Use activesync which will backup tasks and calendar too, as well as push email (delivers email in real time, not limited to sending/receiving every x minutes. have a look at this page http://windowsteamblog.com/windows_...ar-and-contacts-with-exchange-activesync.aspx or google exchange activesync hotmail
note that syncing with windows live will also download all your previous contacts from the server.
(not to hijack, but quick question: there's no way to sync contacts and not show messenger contacts in your windows mobile contacts for instance, is there?)
I had much more luck syncing with Google Calendar than with Hotmail Calendar. And it wasn't for the lack of trying. Syncing with Hotmail is like syncing with Desktop Outlook. Great while it works but once it's broken, it's broken for good. On the contrary, in about a year of syncing with Google I haven't run into a problem yet that I wasn't able to resolve. I am syncing Calendar, Contacts and email using ActiveSync, and tasks using GogTasks freeware. Contacts sync especially has been flawless.
If you can live with Google's limitations (no category support unless you buy a 3rd party app, have to jump through hoops to sync Tasks), I suggest you try that.
