I screwed up my SPV M3100 somehow... - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam Software Upgradin

I had 2 choices with my SPV M3100, throw it in the bin or find a ROM image with a Bluetooth stack that actually works (and stays working); so, I downloaded a Dopod and an I-Mate rom image.
Went through the motions with the Dopod image and at the end it said there had been communications errors, it needed to reset to rectify the problem.
After it reset I have a screen which is just a mass of random pixels; curiously with a very small set of digits in the bottom left corner in red. The screen is obviously looking at RAM as I can see the pixels change as the data changes.
After about 10 seconds I get the Windows Mobile flash screen and that's where it stops. I can get the bootloader screen to appear but nothing else documented on here has any effect. I've tried the SD Card image but the bootloader doesn't seem to care/know that it's there.
mtty can see the device and I can get "some" commands to react (info 2 hangs the system; I get HTC and then some garbage text if I enter "set 14 0" but then nothing).
Is there any way to get this <extremely> unstable product back to a usable state or should I just accidentally step on it.

From what you say I see you have done pretty much all the possibilities we know for recovering a bricked unit, and we don't have any shipped update with "ORANG001" CID yet, so the sd-card flash will not work with other NBHs.
Other that it seems that the CID is corrupted (you get no output from "info 2" in mtty!), try using USB Monitor as described in comment #11 in this post and see what it looks like on the exported .txt output file:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=278025
Sorry to say that if ROM upgrade utility is not able to talk to the bootloader anymore I guess you should send your phone to HTC's repair centre or wait for a Orange rom update matching your CID and try sd-card flashing with HERMIMG.nbh again to see if you're lucky with the right CID.

If it's insured you could "accidentally" drive yoyr car over it....

I discovered why the bootloader didn't like my SD card; it was formatted FAT and not FAT32. After I corrected that, whatever HERMIMG.nph image I use, the bootloader simply hangs at "checking..."; (I left it overnight to see if it was a sloooooow timing issue).
In all honesty I have been very disappointed with the device, the Bluetooth stack is more of a hindrance than a tool. If I run any peripherals via Bluetooth, and I do, extensively, I have to reset the device at random and unpredictable intervals (reminds me of the original 36xx iPAQs; guess HTC have gone back to their original stack )
I can feel a "faulty unit" scenario coming.
Thanks for the input anyway.

Stuck in bootloader v1.06

I have only had my XdaII for a month, but last week it locked up and upon a soft reset it took 5 minutes to get past the O2 screen, then there was no responce to any screen taps, i decided to do a full reset, once rebooted still no response to screen taps, so i couldnt calibrate the screen or go any further, i connected the xda to activesync this still worked fine and was responding normally. I then decided to reload the rom from myxda.com, biggest mistake as it crashed halfway through now it just says Serial v1.06 or USB v1.06 if its in the cradle, now before i get bashed for just asking this question the same as a lot of other people have, i have spent the last 4 days go over this site trying anything that relates to getting any image back onto my xda, nothing has worked i have tried any nbf or nb1 image i can find on here with orginal or modified himaupgradeut.exe same response every time error 100: incorrect device type, i have tried any image i get can get onto an SD card, they either dont boot or wont allow upload, so my question is i have seen several people on here ask about bring v1.06 back from the dead but so far noone has had any instructions on how to this when a normal boot isnt possible.
I don't know if this is any help, but I had something similar.
I concluded that the rom on xda2 was newer than one being upgraded? with,so it says it won't work.I sent mine back to o2,but think that rom 172 or something, might be accepted.People say that you leave it 30 mins before it starts to upgrade.
There is a problem with bootloader v1.06 in that it will not allow 'downgrades'. It seems to have appeared on devices around the same time that ROM versions 1.72 appeared. I have read that it will allow installation of version 1.66 but nothing less than that (and that may apply only to T-Mobile). However, you should be able to install a version 1.72 ROM without to much problem.
My help
You can make the unit work again by downloading the rom version:
1. Ensure that the main battery has enough charge to make the unit in bootloading mode.
2. Execute the bootloading mode and connect the unit to the docking station(cradle), you will see the "Serial" in the upper portion of the screen will switch to "USB" this is an indication that there's a connection established between the pocket pc and your pc.
3. Then download the latest Rom version(1.72 is a better choice).
Thanks dcs and Juni
The 1.72 rom did get it going again .... but i still have no response on the screen so im guessing ill have to return it.
Does anyone know where i can get the 1.66WWE rom from as im assuming returning it with 1.72 rom on it may be frowned upon, and a voided warrany.
Thanks agian guys for your help

Which Dopod device is based on HTC TyTN/Hermes?
Edit: OK these ones - Dopod CHT 9000 / Dopod 838 Pro/
Stupid question but did you try to flash the ROM for a different device?
I used the Hermes ROM images.
Even if I had used the wrong image, the issue is how do I get it to build only utilising the bootloader?
I discovered why the bootloader didn't like my SD card; it was formatted FAT and not FAT32. After I corrected that, whatever HERMIMG.nph image I use, the bootloader simply hangs at "checking..."; (I left it overnight to see if it was a timing issue).
"..After I corrected that, whatever HERMIMG.nph image I use, the bootloader simply hangs at "checking..."; (I left it overnight to see if it was a timing issue)..."
that is so because you trying to flash DOPOD ROM to Orange branded device. You need matching Orange branded ROM to flash with SD card. Your device has CID that is defferent to the CID the DOPOD is made for.
As far as I am concerned, Orange has not made available ROM image for your device as of yet.

Have I bricked my device? Help!!!!

I managed to upgrade my phone to aku 3.3 using pof's method(bootloader 1.01 MFG) . Then, out of no where, I tried to use MTTY to upgrade my radio rom
It started as usual with the status bar moving. Suddenly some error messages came up.
Now, the phone is dead completely. I can''t even enter bootloader mode.
Is there a possible way that I can still save it??

Now, the phone is dead completely. I can''t even enter bootloader mode. Only when I take out the battery and plug in the charger cable the red light comes on. I looked the upgrade problem page, my symptom doesn't match any.

I had something similiar happen a little while back. What I did was pull the battery out and leave it out for a while, maybe a few minutes. I then put the battery back in and held the two side buttons and hit the reset button to put me into bootloader mode. I then cabled it to my computer and flashed a new OS via mutty. That got my phone back and operational.
@float. Nuh, it didn't work on my brick. Prob i will have to take it back to Tmobile if they kind enough to repair the no warranty phone i bought on ebay.
Sorry to have opened a new thread, I was so desperate.
Plz delelte it.
how exactly did you try to update the radio using mtty?
I download the 1.27 shipped radio rom. P.S. It seemed to be a german version, not sure whether that caused the disaster.
Using NBHextract to get the single GSM.NB file, then in MTTY, typed
USB> task 32
USB> lnb GSM.NB
Before flashing, just had it upgraded to the HTC AKU3.3 OS rom only. The old version radio rom version before flashing was 1.18.
Maybe the order i flash is wrong. I flashed OS first then the radio rom.
just guessing
ok, you loaded the radio rom code where os.nb should go. That may have caused mega bad blocks in flash. Can you even get bootloader mode if you reset using Wiki directions to obtain Tri-color bootloader?
Yes. I have tried many ways wiki suggests. Such as removing the battery leaving it more than half an hour and plugging it to the usb cable without battery. still can't get to the tri-color bootloader mode. Basically, I just can't turn on the phone.
If you connect it to the computer, can it communicate w/the PC? If you hear the windows tones try opening up mtty and see if you can communicate.
i'm stuck in the same place
for me it happened during extrom flash
Try removing the battery for a bit (a few minutes, maybe half an hour). Then, put the battery back in but don't plug the usb cable in. After that, hold the two side buttons as if you're trying to get it to go into the bootloader. Hit the reset button a few times with your stylus and see if that gets you to the bootloader. That's what worked for me.
tried that
tried removing battery and connecting usb
nothing helps

HardSPL won't succeed

Hi All,
I'm new to the PDA-world and the Hermes. I'm trying to Hard SPL my Hermes, but it fails everytime.
When I run 2.10 - Hard-SPL-V7, it kills activesync and my connection is lost and I get always the message "error 260, Update error".
I have the latest framework edition and tried it on 3 pc's (1 Vista, 2 XP)...
What am I doing wrong?
Hope somebody can help me....
Kind Regards,
Micha
1). dont connect to active sync. open active sync and untick "allow usb connections".
2). put hermes into bootloader and connect to usb.
3). run ruu_wrapper.exe
should update to hard spl....
dont forget to tick "allow usb connections" again or you wnot be able to sync..
error 260 is an open port error.
if you wish to flash new os would advise to use sd card method. its safer than using the computer. just make sure you have greater than 50% battery power. happy flashing
Thnx, will give it a try.
First I have to flash HardSPL before I can flash a new OS, don't I?
yep, sorry, should have said run the ruu_wrapper for hard spl. My bad...
im having the same problem. I also tried the way ultramag recommended but i also received the same ending. After time i try i get the Error 260 Update error. Im running SPL 2.04 and the HTC WM6 rom from the HTC website. Does any one know what the problem is?

NOOOOO, that won't work, you need the SSPL to deploy to the phone, if you're running stock HTC bootloader this won't work at all, otherwise we'd have no need for Hard-SPL
hey olipro, then how would i fix this. Im running the stock rom from the HTC website with no hacks. Im trying to load PDA Corners V9 rom. Any ideas on how to fix? thanks!
Take a peek at the guide i wrote about updating the hardspl. Theres some explanation about why we need to use SSPL and the procedures.
http://www.mrvanx.org/hermes_guide/hardspl
thats the guide i used. it still gives me the error. I even unchecked "allow connections" cause i read somewhere that that would help.
i did this two days ago on my phone, im running windows vista on my home laptop and got any number of errors and problems trying to do it via sync with the phone (even after reading the vista troubleshooter, with the drivers etc)
What i ended up using was the memory card upgrade, dump the file onto the memory card and go into bootloader with the card installed.
worked fine doing that way, maybe less risky as there is no chance of the usb cable coming out.
just make sure you have a good battery charge on the phone.
Help Help Help w bricked 8525
I got into this position trying to upgrade WM5 to WM6 from HTC site.
Process got to 20% and just stayed there.
I reconnected usb cable and got a vendor id error
Then I get the Error [260]: CONNECTION
I have read a lot of posts and have tried the sd method (although i am not 100% clear) and all i get is the screen with four colors, red, green blue and white.
I believe this is the bootloader? I have downloaded RUU_signed.nbh, renamed it to hermimg.nbh, installed on root of my SD card and held OK, soft reset and power button:
My display reads:
HERM100
IPL-1.04
HERM100
SPL-2.03
This is where my journey ends.
All post indicate that the device can be reflashed and have the OS reinstalled. I can't get there from here.
Can anyone please help?

How big is your SD card? Flashing only works with cards <2GB. Also, sometimes certain cards just don't work for flashing, and just swapping to a different card fixes the problem.
I assume you searched the wiki, and found the relevant pages on the Hermes (including SD Card Flashing and other things about flashing/upgrading) there?
Still Lost
My SD is 2GB and I have tried many times but i just keep getting the 4 color screen. rt now when i boot from the SD my screen goes white and displays "Loading..." and then returns to bootloader screen. When i attempt to flash the rom via PC to WM5 or WM6 i get the Error 260, i also get a vendor ID error sometimes.
How can i find the key 8525 thread that i am told has the answer to my delima? I keep picking up bits and pieces but am missing some key steps and tips.

That sounds like the SD card is formatted incorrectly. Make sure it's formatted using fat32, nothing else will work.
Still not there from here
Thanks for your help. Before I formatted the SD FAT32, nothing would happen doing the bootloader reset. OK/ON/reset button.
After format and only the hermimg.nbh file renamed as indicated, I then get what looks like the loading process but back to the bootloader screen.
Q1: This is an AT&T 8525, it was perfectly fine before failure from WM5 to WM6 (process froze at 20%), what is the RUU file that I need to put on SD??
Q2: After "Loading ..." I try the WM5 PC upgrade of ROM via USB cable, I get the load process to appear to work but it gets to 1% and the phone reboots and the PC reports error [294]: Invalid vendor ID. If I do this again I will get the Error [260]. Ive repeated the process several times.
Is this the normal course to take or should the "SD Method" (with the WM5 or WM6 RUU.. file) complete the process to a working OS?
Q3: Is my situation hopeless? ATT will take my out of warrantee 8525 and reflash for $129. Reading the threads it seems that like me this can be done by me, this is my desire.
Q4: I still am confused by some basic terms and assumed steps. I dont understand "Hard SPL" or OLI's IPLs/SPLs and when and when to use them.
The newbe guide has been off line. I will look again. Is there a single place to read about "radio PDAs and the 8525 and understand the software build and custom options?
Sy for the long post. But still want to fix if possible or I will be force to mail in for ATT repair.
Thank you all.

Oh boy, you haven't installed HardSPL? You are walking a bit of a line there mate...
HardSPL is a custom boot loader that makes bricking your phone when flashing much harder to do, and helps large amounts in the recovery process if you phone does brick.
Does the phone boot at this point? If so, do not try flashing the phone again. Go get a copy of HardSPL and install it, then try flashing from the SD.
I still wonder why people didn't read before bricking...
Anyway, you should start reading now and wiki is your friend. Your SPL is 2.03, so look at the bottom of the page (there is only one solution till now, so good luck with that):
Code:
1. Boot OS using KITL+PB
2. Do no disconnect your HERMES till the end of the step 6
3. Download SSPL on HERMES by wifi from ie explorer
4. Launch SSPL then flash Hard-SPL from your computer
5. Put your hermes in bootloader mode
6. Flash any radio in NBH format from your computer

Thanks for coming to my aide. I believe that I have Hard SPL'd my device. I downloaded Olipro's Hard SPL v7. extracted the RUU_ file and renamed to hermimg.nbh.
I then put it on an SD card and held the keys and reset. The device displayed a white screen and "Loading..." appeared. Afterward the 8525 returned to the stipped boat loader screen and that is where I am now.
Some of the help i receive and read on wiki threads has me confused with what to do next and how "exactly" to do it.
It does seem that I am not alone and people have fixed their phones and the process to do this is on the forum. I'm just still missing something.
Help me further if u can.
Thank you.

FYI: bad form to PM someone and post the same thing here. Keep it in the thread so others can be helped as well.
As I replied in the PM, if I'm understanding your post correctly, the phone boots to the tri-colour screen?
What text is showing on the screen? This will tell if HardSPL is on the phone or not.

There is small chance (read my previous post) to unbrick device with SPL2.03 so better try to get this back from where you take it.
And please, change topic, because this brick isn't HardSPL fault at all.
Edit: oh dear, it's even not your topic ...good game, I'm off

I bricked my 8525 is it garbage or can HTC reflash it?

I bricked my 8525 is it garbage or can HTC reflash it? I repeatedly tried to load the WM6 upgrade from the HTC Site,it kept erroring out at 78% with a 302 error code,I tried rebooting, different USB ports, different PCs,ect.Well it got late and I got tired and attempted to load the "Naked 7" version, kept getting not Hard SPL thing, tried to install Hard SPL,wouldn't or didn't seem to work, still It would connect with Activesync and the recovery thing would continue to load to 78%,So I Got REALLY STUPID and tried loading Faria-X32 or something like that that saw the Phone ,asked about updating the ROM,to which I said YES,it went for about 2 minutes worth of progress then Kicked off,now instead of the RED/GREEN/BLUE/WHITE screen I get the at&t logo with
M 05 R 1.54.07.00
S 04 G 32.86u 7028.23H
B 06 D 3.62
It will no longer "connect" with the Activesync on my Computer,it just stays on the Logo screen with the above in red at the bottom of the screen.
Is it FUBARed forever? Thanks In Advance,Vegaslightsss
Am I asking Questions in the wrong Place?
Sorry I am new to this,am I asking the wrong questions in the wrong place or am I at the wrong site entirely? Of all the searches I did, this was the Site most often recommended,I am not asking to be spoon fed or babied,I just need to know if there is any point in even attemting to fix this myself or if there is anyone, anywhere that has the knowledge/equipment to do this. Thanks in Advance for your Time,Vegaslightsss
You aren't in the wrong place. Fear not, read the wiki. I would help you out, but I own a Wizard, and know next to nothing about the 8525's
!st, congrats on finding us, Its the place that offers salvation when you are writhing in hell.
Now, do a search for Hard SPL on the forum. Download Ver 7.(ver 9 for developers and throws up error messages when finished flashing). Then do a search for HOW to flash Hard SPL via the SD card method. You should find easily enough on either the forum or the wiki.
Please note that this will void warranty BUT as it is just a glorified paperweight now, I dont think that really matters....
After you hard spl your hermes you should be able to reflash it with either the stock rom you were trying or one of the cooked roms that our TOP chefs cook up, I'd recommend TNT SE if its your 1st rom as I found it VERY stable but thats up to you. Download the rom...
Put your hermes into bootloader, hold down power button, OK button above flywheel and soft reset. Make sure all buttons are held down til it powers into tricolour screen. This should tell you what your IPL is (1.04 if you hard spled ver7) and your SPL (2.10 olipro).
On your pc, go to activesync's connection setting and untick "allow usb connections" then connect hermes. Double click thr RUU_Wrapper.exe file and follow the prompts.
Or you can use sd card method (search wiki)
You should also do a check to see if there are any bad blocks but I'd do this after flashing.
Hope this helps...Cheers
Reset fails to bring up Tri Color at&t with red versions frozen
Thank You VERY MUCH for responding,I went out and bought another 8525 with WM6.1 already loaded on it.I still would like to repair my other one,I have dabbled with Satellite testing for years so I am technically literate and quite experienced with flashing ROms ,ect. I have all of the files you suggested,I put the Hard SPL 7 files into onto the Mini SD card and attemted several Hundred (told you I was desperate)times,It just pops right up with the at&t light blue screen with the world logo and all of thr red letters ,I guess the red "R" is indicating the radio is at 1.54.07.00 the "G" is 32.86u.7020.23H the "D" is 3.62 the "m" at 05,the "S" at 04, and the "B" at 06.
M,S,B,and d,come up instantly followed in about 3 seconds by R and G,there seems to be no hope of getting it to take the SPL7 files from the memory card,I downloaded the XDA tools and have attempted to try and boot from SD with no luch, just that damn [email protected] logo screen,Is there anyone on the forums that works on these that I could ship it to and pay for their badly needed services.I am getting to the point that I feel like I am not getting anywhere. If anyone can handle this type of repair please either PM me or whatever. I have to give up before this makes me insane. Thanks,Vegas
Did you copy the .nbh file to the card after formatting it fat 32 and then renaming to "hermimg.nbh"?
You only need to copy a single file into your micro SD card's root folder -> RUU_SIGNED.nbh which needs to be renamed to HERMIMG.nbh
Press and hold the "OK" button at the side and the "POWER" button at the same time then poke the reset hole under the device with the stylus.
its been a while since i've done this, but i believe you need to be able to boot the OS to install hardspl, even if its through the sd card.
to unbrick you phone see this link:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Unbrick
after u're done, then you can hardspl
able to boot kind of with L+R soft key + reset
I am able to boot, kind of with L+R soft key + reset ,it will breifly show thw tri colored screen but noy stay there,I jumps to a screen that says
"Do you want to erase all user Data and restore to Manufacturers Default?"
YES = QWERTY (R) KEY
NO = QWERTY (X) KEY
I have tried both, both say successful "Press SpaceBar to reboot" of course it boots back to the at&t screen with the little red letters frzen on screen. I have formatted the SD card FAT32 and renamed the file from SPL 7 to hermimg.nbh not sure how or what that is supposed to do,but I have done it,I do see a glimmer of Hope now that I have seen it do something else ,I am reading my butt off but could still use some guideance. Thanks,Vegaslightsss

no, its not booting the OS, its stuck at the at&t logo. go through that unbrick guide that i posted.
you *might* be able to save it by flashing the at&t rom here:
http://member.america.htc.com/downl...502.3_6275_1.54.07.00_108_UOOS_SVN05_Ship.exe

Need ROM image to put on my SD card...
tHAT LINK SEEMS TO BE DEAD,i REGISTERED WITH THE SITE JUST FINE,BO NO FILE,whoops, sorry Caps stuck,no file to be seen, the problem is that I can't run any type of exe as the ROM booting is what I need in order for the PC to "see" the phone through USB for activesync,I need the actual "image" for on the SD card in order to get it fired up so I can Hard SPL it...Vegas
sorry, looks like it just wont work with a direct link. go here:
http://www.htc.com/us/FAQ_Detail.aspx?p_id=65&act=sd
and click the download link at the bottom.
and like i said, put your device into bootloader and run that exe file. your pc can still "see" your device while it is in bootloader mode. If you want the image, use winrar to extract the contents of that exe, and then look for the biggest file, and then extract the contents of that file. you should see a RUU_signed.nbh, that's your rom image

Instead of the L+R soft keys, try using the OK button on the left of the device, the power button on the right, then hitting the reset hole. That should put it into the tricolor screen, followed by a screen which says "HERMIMG.nbh" and prints a list of things which it's going to update, then says "Press power button to continue".
Edit: and if you do it without a SD card containing the HERMIMG.nbh file, it should stay in the tricolor screen, with the word "Serial" or "USB" displayed at the bottom, and you can plug it into your computer and flash it that way. I don't use that method, but it involves running the exe file on your computer while the unit is connected by USB cable. See mrvanx's guides for some details.
One thing, if you connect to usb with it in bootloader, FIRST, open activesync(before you connect the hermes) and go to connection settings. Untick "allow usb connections". This will stop activesync trying to sync up and possibly screwing around with the flash. Cheers...
