USB Stupidity -> 3.5mm stereo jack convertor - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam Accessories

Spotted at Expansys for an outrageous £9.95:
http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=138247&sbadd=138247

Add postage on and it's almost £15. It's a whole lot of money for something so small. I'm debating on whether to buy this or whether to spend £20 on a soldering iron, Helping hands, 4m silver solder and female 3.5" adapter to customise the included 'phones.
I've already done a quick (and somewhat untidy) job with an old soldering iron and some stone age solder last used in the 70's... Sounds Ok. Although the Vario 2's sound chip isn't exactly up to much through my Sennheiser's (using PocketMusic's EQ). It's certainly no match for my iRiver iHP120 which produces a lovely deep bass.
Perhaps I should try a different piece of EQing software?

Is it possible to make a converter which allows charging and audio out?

now they just need to incorperate it into a car holder.
I want one of those FM transmitters, so i can make calls and hear them via my car-radio, and charge at the same time.

i bought one of these and it's not worth the money to be honest.
it's quite loose fitting so that anything touching the adaptor can cause the headphones to cut out / switch to a single side, etc.
still, i suppose it's better than nothing until something better comes along.

That'd also be nice for streaming audio over the net.

I've spent around £17 on getting a soldering kit, Helping Hands, solder, plug etc and now have a nicely finished handsfree/headphone cable with a 3.5mm female plug. Well worth it actually, because apart from being able to use my superb Sennheiser noise cancelling 'phones with my Vario II, I've actually learnt a great new skill... Soldering!
Link to the method I used from 4winmobile.
Link to the other short cable method at tracy&matt
Not as hard or as intimidating as I first imagined. I'm probably the clumsiest bloke in the world with huge hands, so if I can do it anyone can!
P.S. If you're gonna do this, you simply MUST buy a Helping Hands... £3.99 at toolspot.co.uk. Bargain!

Probably not needed, but I must second the complaint about the Expansys adapter. It's much larger (longer) than it needs to be, and it is very loose in the socket, any slight pull in any direction will cause it to cut-out. Better than nothing, but only just. I hope someone improves upon this very soon. I like the "do it yourself" adapter, but am not yet fully prepared to destroy my wired headset. I guess no one knows a place to buy these weird connectors for making your own cable without destroying your wired headset?

There is any way to ship it to Brazil? I've been looking in the Ebay and find nothing about that converter. Also looked in the stores and none of them ships to Brazil. I really don't wanna cut the original Headset. If anyone knows a way to do that, i'll appreciate that...

The pinout is different, doesn't match...

thought the v3 was a mini usb fitting!! i've ordered one!!! OH DEAR!!

Hermes headset socket is NOT MiniUSB! Only data and power part of this socket is MiniUSB-compatible.
Just take a look inside and you'll see it.

Pinout
Hi all.
Could anyone please direct me to information on the actual pinout of this socket on the device? I plan to try and make a cable or 2. Perhaps for my car and / or another set of high quality ear buds.
TIA.
hayden.

The pinout should be similar to Artemis: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=284512

IQ seagull to not make the 3.5 connector comeout a 90 degreee angle compared to the connector...
As it looks now and you have a straight connector on your headset it will be what 6-7 cm ... Quite useless to have in your pocket.

Use this one until you find another...

thanks guys. That’s perfect.
If I am successful I will post the final outcome.

MDA III Stereo Headset with Mic

Hi everybody,
After upgrading my MDA III successfully with Qtek ROM (thanks to the nice information on this forum).
I am looking to solve my second issue which is the stereo headset. In fact, I buy my MDA III in london in second hand. There was no stereo headset given with it. Therefore, I have bought in a shop a stereo headset supposed to be the original one for Xda2s, but unfortunatly when I use it, there is only one side of the headset no stereo. If I unplug a bit the headset I have the stereo, but it is really not practical to use. The problem is that I am not sure the problem come from the headset or the MDA III.
Does anybody got the same issue, and know if it is normal that the headset from Xda2s doesn't work ?
Also, does anybody knows where I can find a place to buy a stereo headset with microphone which surely work with the MDA III ?
Thanks.
Julien.

Me 2!
Hi!
I have the exact same problem with my stereo headset! The earpiece on the side of the mic does not work.
The trick of unplugging the headset connector a bit to get stereo works, but if you turn your volume up past a sertain point the earpiece will stop working again. And recently this trick has completly stopped working for me even when the volume is low.
So today I went to the a phoneshop to buy a new (original) headset for my Qtek 9090.
I asked to test the headset just to be sure that it worked.
But sadly enough the problem of one earpiece not working was still there.
Maybe this is a hardware problem?
Thanks for your help "FFVIII".
But in fact before buying a new earphone I want to be sure this time, that it will work has expected. In fact, I have already waste some money on some try, and I am kind of fed up about it.
So, if somebody on this forum, has find a stereo earphone with mic, fully working with a T-Mobile UK MDA III (I think MDA III is enough), I would be happy to know where I can get one.
My neck would really appreciate to have a earphone, especially for long phone call
Julien.
id really like to use my sony MDR-EX71SLB Fontopia Headphones with my MDA III, is there an adapter that will work with blueangel from 2.5mm plug to 3.5mm socket to get stereo when playin mp3?
I have order this handsfree kit :
http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/product/5846.htm
I really hope this time it will work, otherwise it will be another waste of money.
I order this one because it was written "genuine t-mobile mda III earphones", so I hope it will work, otherwise I will start to think that my MDA has an hardware issue.
But also I saw so many people having the same problem that I have doubt it's an hardware issue. I will give you my feedback when I received it, if it's work or not.
Cross your finger for me
i got the genuine PTT/heapset with my MDA, they work ok but fall out of your ears to easily imo
I have a bad news. I have received the new earphone that I order. Like I said, those earphone where supposed to be the genuine T-Mobile earphone. But in fact I still have the problem of only one side working when I plug the earphone totally. If I unplug a bit it's working.
So, I get so much bad luck about this, and specially since the earphone is exactly the same as the one I already bought.
I am really starting to think that the probleme is an hardware issue. If somebody has better luck.
It sounds like a hardware issue, the reason you can hear through left and right earphones when you pull the headset out slightly is because you are crossing the pins for left and right from the device to the jack plug, to put it simply, your hearing one channel through both headphones not stereo. Just a thought, is the track your trying to listen to definately in stereo?

The mobilefun one looks a bit flimsy and expensive to me! I can make you one at the length you want but the lead will be based on the same design as you have seen in the listings except shorter and without the extra jack socket. I am about to make some of the leads without the extra jack socket but with a microphone inline if that sounds better for you? It is up to you, just let me know

Thanks Padlad, yes it is a bit pricey condsidering the excact same one for the XDA 2 is 5.99 :? , although flimsy looking I don't want to stress the socket with to much weight or chance of snagging it, as if that goes I'm buggerd.
Although I did notice you use RadioShack style beefy connectors that are much better for sound quality. I am impressed with your Mic/handsfree system, can I record through it? and or make calls useing my Sony ECM-717 3.5 stereo Mic? How much for a short 3inch one with mic+headphones? And how much for just a headphone out adaption? deliverd to the U.K. at a Buy It Now price. many thanks choppidge.

You can record voice/sound through it if it has a mic, if you wanted to use your ECM-717 3.5 stereo Mic then you would have to have two 3.5mm jack plugs, one for your stereo output (headphones) and one for your ECM-717. 3 inch is too small to make due to the size of the strain relief on the jack plug (i made one for myself at 4 inch with mic and it is just too rigid), the minimum size so as to allow for the cable to flex and not be too rigid is 5 inch without mic and 6 inch with mic. In order to give you a price i need to know whether you want to buy it through Ebay or buy it privately using Paypal (i have to take into account Ebay's selling charges if the adapter is sold through them) I'm easy either way, it is up to you.

Faulty XDA Stereo Headphone Adapter?

Hi Guys,
Just purchased a PPC Techs XDA/XDA II 3.5mm Stereo Headphone Adpter from Expansys after reading some threads here, im noticing I only get stereo if I leave the 2.5mm jack from the XDA not plugged in all the way, is this a common problem or do I have a faulty adapter?
Cheers Baz
I did the same and bought on the advice of that post but only had one channel coming through.
I gave up and had someone who is very handy with a soldering iron and shrinkdown sleeving to remedy things.
He took my XDA headset and cut the earphones off it.
Then he grafted my sony fontopia earbuds in their place and
made an excellent job.
now I am happy but would warn anyone else off the expansys and belkin adaptors as I have them both and neither are any good

I looking for something similar, since I would be happy to find a stereo earphones working.
MDA III seems to come from another planet since almost none of the current earphone are working.
Or maybe it's an hardware issue.
any solutions yet?

Pull it out just a little...
I tested out a set of Jabra c220s headphones and found that if you pull the jack out just a bit you get stereo. This happens on all BAs. I read on another forum somewhere that the ink cartridge from a ballpoint pen can be used: cut off .5mm from the cartridge and slip it onto the jack. Expansys has some Seidios headsets that work out of the box though.
I tried 3 different ones until my current one which works perfectly with my xdaiis. Make sure you buy an adaptor with 3 black bands around the pin. I got mine from ebay for 99p plus postage from Hong Kong

yup... I'm using Motorola ROKR 1 headset on to PH20B... and...yes...it has a LOT of bass... so...it's VERY RECOMMENDED if you want "better" headset than the original... 8)
I modified my original headset so that it will compatible with any 3,5mm headsets sold in the market.. it simply by some soldering in the board... it is stated in the wiki, you'll find it there... i'm satisfied now i'm using my modified headset with the original headset of SonyEricsson W800i.. its awesome.^_^

where to get 4 conductor jack 2.5mm

good morning,
i want to integrate my wizard into my car and connect it with the radio via aux-input. okay, no problem by now. I already adapted the 3 conductor 2.5mm jack to 3.5mm and the sound is really really great in the car. but now I have this problem with the disabled microphone everyone is talking about.
where can i get a 4 conductor 2.5mm male jack? i didn't find anyone at ebay and several other shops... :-(
I've read several threads talking about "ebay, 3 pounds"... where do you get them from...i don't find any
help would be fine... ;-) thanks a lot!!!

http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=127179
hey Its,
thanks for that link! but I just need the jack itself, not the whole adapter... best thing would be if that jack is located in germany ;-)
perhaps you know any store who offers this?
dude, really kind of tricky that jack....
pfiati, bene
I've been looking for that jack to. No success!!!!
Don't forget to share if you know where it can be found!!!
format
Sorry; didn't catch that you were looking for a jack only.
2.5mm 4 conductor jacks seems hard to find without some kind of cable attached to them, but Mouser has one:
http://www.mouser.com/search/ProductDetail.aspx?R=171-7425virtualkey11180000virtualkey171-7425
hey!
www.reichelt.de has also one - the german naming is "Spezial-Klinkenstecker 2,5mm, 4-polig" and the product number @ reichelt is "KS K4-25" the price is about 1.10€ (but in case of ordering you have to pay at least minimum 10€)
i can buy 10 at least and share the 9 out of 10 at ebay... probably one way... what restrictions has mouser - where is it seated? okay, shipping costs to germany is about $31.00 ... a little bit tooo much for this little tiny jack....
greetz, bene
Is this something that you are looking for. Not sure if it's 4 conductor or not.

Amigo! Thats a standard converter. You should be able to find it in any electronics place there. Or have you shopped for it already? Try THIS search and you'll see many as low as $1.00 and many with free shipping.
I need a CAM for my BA SX66 Its the only reason I hate my phone. There was a guy on e-bay who used to sell the cams, but don't have any more. I keep searching for broken phones at Ebay just for the cam.
Now i knew it
Marc yesterday i knew that siemens sx66 BA dont have camera... but does the Motherboard has the adaptations? to handle it? The cover isnt a trouble a I now!
Yes I tried a lot of standard 4 paths 3 lines 2.5 to 3.5 stereo adapters and none works well its is just mono.... damn! i need music on my ears all day! please if anyone found that adapters point me to the seller please.
Yes, the connector is there for the flex cable. Cover has the markings where to drill. Did you check out the links for the adapter? Just search for "2.5mm to 3.5mm" that's all you need on the search. and make sure its stereo and for phone. Otherwise, the mic wont work.
Mic doesnt matters to me...
Mic doesnt matters to me cause i just want the adapter to use my own earphones cause default sucks!
I have a sony and are nice!
Hey +Que ma man...seems like you really want a 3.5mm jack converter for your BA...why don't you visit your local electronic shop? I am sure you will find one just make sure there are four divisions on the plug itself. There are plenty of those connectors here in my country and prices ranges from US$5-10 but if ever I will send you one shipping cost will be the problem! Hope you find one.
Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hate to listen at the people talking about **** on the bus...
And those people who use his cellphone to play music with speakers.....! hey dont you think nobodys like your f**kn music! jejej sorry.

Bose Headphones w/ Rhodium

I have a bose communication headset with a 4-pin 3.5mm jack (iPhone style connector). Has anyone had any success using such headsets with any of the ExtUSB - 3.5mm adapters / would anyone be willing to provide a link to where I could order one shipped to the USA?
Thanks,
kg4mxz
PS: I have searched the forums, but I couldn't find any posts dealing with 4 pin 3.5mm headsets.
i have exactly the same problem, i have bose in-ear headphones but i am not sure what to buy to use them, i'm using that bulky adapter from my last htc touch diamond sprint version, but when i go to the gym, is little embarasing to use it
ecx.images-amazon*com/images/I/313uTE4pFpL._SL500_AA280_.jpg[/url]
but one thing i noticed, you will lose like 25% of the sound power you get when you use it with that adapter, if you compare the sound volume and quality you get with an IPOD..
i've been thinking to use one of those light adapters
ecx.images-amazon*com/images/I/41-D72YS48L._SL500_AA280_.jpg
but according to some reviews it doesnt last enough, you have to buy like 4 of them for replacement haha... MADE IN CHINA probably and again the same problem with not enough volume.. you will listen when somebody is chewing gum next to you...
