I have tried many times to upgrade the Rom Image on my HTC Tytn (Cingular 8525) with no success. I am getting a 260 error with the program located at this link...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293665
I did first run the unlocking application to unlock both SIM and CID before running the upgrade.
I followed all the steps exactly and have had no success...
The following might be effecting my attempt:
I am running my pc on Vista
I am syncing with Windows Mobile Device Center
I have tried to solve this problem for about two weeks. Can anyone help me?
Mrvanx has a guide on how to prepare Vista for flashing, you can find it here.
This information still did not work. I get a 260 error even after updating the driver, which I did not do until now.
After investigating furthur I have realized what the error is:
As soon as the RUU says "Verifying Information on your PDA Phone..." the second time and forces the device to enter bootloader, the usb connection is lost between the device and the pc. Investigating furthur, the connection to my tytn is lost every time I enter bootloader, whether it is by Power+OK+SoftReset or forced by RUU. Does anyone know how to fix this bootloader connection problem?
Same problem

Use the RUU wrapper with the NBH file you want to upgrade.
I still have the same issue, even when using the RUU Wrapper and any nhb.
don't use vista
Ok, got one step furthur
I reached the point where the ROM Begins to update, which is VERY good...
The ROM update Reaches 1%, then waits for 20 minutes...
Then I get a 262 error and have to go through recovery, try again, with the same result.
i have same problem plz help thnx in advance

Have you tried removing or adding a checkmark to the USB to PC in CONNECTIONS on your device? I remember having a similar problem when I installed Radio Rom 1.38 that my USB connection was lost with the pc . I am using XP when flashing so if you have no luck then do this on a XP machine.
Forgot to ask! What ROM are you trying to flash??
@compwiz2008 and ahmerpar
I read somewhere that running windows update will update WMDC........maybe give that a shot?
Maybe you can try to upgrade your ROM from your SD card.
Nope
Let me try that...
Still did not work
I'm probably going to just take my phone to a computer repair shop and pay them to deal with it, since I'm evedently doing something wrong.
Hello all.
I was flashing a ROM (VP3G's new ROM) when my USB cable jiggled and became disconnected from the computer. Now my phone is stuck in the tri-color screen.
I have read through some of the unbricking material and have not had any luck. There are many pages which I will go through to try and not have to send my phone to repair.
Here is my info.
Hermes Cingular 8525
HERM100
IPL-1.03
HERM100
SPL-1.11
Everytime I try to check if my phone has KITL enabled, it does not tell me. I am downloading Windows CE right now and will attempt to recover using the PB + KITL method ... but I am hoping to get a little help if possible. The main problem is that my phone will not ActiveSync ... so I cannot try to flash another ROM. Whenever I try, I get a message saying that the computer cannot communicate with the phone.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please do not flame ... I am working on trying to fix this myself. I am just asking for a little insight.
Thanks,
Kangle
Have you tried SD Card flashing method?
Have you tried simply flashing another ROM, with the phone starting in bootloader mode?
Are you using CustomRUU to do the flash?
Have you tried a hard reset?
Have you tried mtty - task 28?
Have you tried SD Card flashing method?
This is the only promising thing I have not tried. I am looking for more information about how to do that. Once I find it, Im going to buy a Micro SD card tomorrow and try.
Have you tried simply flashing another ROM, with the phone starting in bootloader mode?
Yes. ActiveSync does not recognize the device, so I havent been able to flash anything. I always get the 260 error. The phone is stuck in bootloader mode (tri-color screen). The phone does switch from USB/Serial when I unplug the USB cable from the computer. It almost makes me think that if ActiveSync was working, I would be OK. But I know ActiveSync does not work unless you have an OS installed.
Are you using CustomRUU to do the flash?
I am using RUUWrapper.exe from vp3g v3(1).62.0_ATT_Full.rar. Ive been reading for a couple hours, so I am not 100% sure if that is what you mean. I have also tried RUU_Hermes_CINGULAR_WWE_2[1].06.502.3_6275_1.33.31.00_108_Ship.exe among others with no success.
Have you tried a hard reset?
Yes ... failed.
Have you tried mtty - task 28?
Mtty allows me to hit the USB button, but the white screen does not allow me to type anything.
*After restarting my computer, mtty started working. I did task 28, and here is what I got.
Cmd>task 28
Storage format start
Write Nand Success
dwBlockToWrite = 13
Storage start block: 438
Storage Total block: 498
Total Bad Block in CE: 0
NeedToEraseBlockStart: 451
Storage format success
Thanks for your response. Im really trying to read up and figure this thing out. Im trying the KITL method now. I really appreciate any input anyone can give me. Im not going to sleep until I get this thing fixed.
Hope your joking re not getting any sleep. I have done this once and ended up making so many mistakes that the sensible thing was to pack in and get a few hours kip.
Amazing what difference a new day makes in terms of clear thinking and putting a seemingly insurmountable problem into perspective.
Hope you get it sorted.
WB
Well, I wasnt joking ... but I ended up lying.
The phone will go into bootloader mode and now when I reset it, it goes to the splash screen. Everything appears to be fine, minus the operating system. I believe my radio is still intact (1.41.00.00).
Im being optimistic that flashing from the SD card will work. If not, Im really going to start getting nervous. Ill let you all know how it goes. I did find the thread on it, so Ill be ready to rock here in a little while. Im going to hold off on the KITL method, but I have done most of the steps and will give it a go once I try this.
Now Im real nervous. I tried using the Hermes SD card flash with a NBH file, and it does not work. It says "Loading ..." .... then at the top of the screen it says 00068002. I did flash the card using Fat32 and named the file HERMIMG.nbh.
Starting to look like Im going to have to send it in ...
Im going to keep scouring the info ... try the KITL method. If anybody has an answer or can point me somewhere, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks again for all your help.

Going for broke here guys. Here is my info.
Model: Hermes Cingular 8525

Tried wiki problem number 5: Appears I do not have KITL enabled
mtty info 2 output: HTCSCWS__001Ùü¤HHTCE
Current Device Status: unusable
I have tried flashing numerous ROMS ... ActiveSync does not see unit, therefore I cannot install. Tried using SD card to flash, but keep getting 00068002 error message on top of screen. KITL method not working.
Whenever I use mtty to hookup to phone, I do not get USB prompt, but I do get Cmd line. And it does seem to communicate with phone. Here is what task 28 shows.
Cmd>task 28
Storage format start
Write Nand Success
dwBlockToWrite = 13
Storage start block: 438
Storage Total block: 498
Total Bad Block in CE: 0
NeedToEraseBlockStart: 451
Storage format success
***One more note ... I have disabled ActiveSync USB detection. When I reset phone into bootloader mode, I then plug the phone into the computer, which then shows USB in bootloader. Then I run RUUWrapper.exe, and then choose SPL-1.11. It acts like it is going to update ROM, but then it stops at 1% and give error 270 - Image file corrupted.***
If anybody can help, I would greatly appreciate it. Im to my wits end. Im expecting to pay at this point, so if anyone can get me going without sending it in, there will be money heading your way.
Thanks to all those in advance who will help.

THE BRICK HAS BEEN FIXED!
WOOT WOOT!!!
I did not really do anything different than what I had been trying before.
I used mtty and did the following.
task 32
task 28
Then I unplugged the USB from the computer, rebooted the phone in bootloader mode, then plugged the USB back into the phone. Then I ran RUU_Hermes_CINGULAR_WWE_2.15.502.3_6275_1.40.30.00_108_Ship.exe and it worked.
I do not understand why it didnt work earlier though ... I ran other official and unofficial Cingular ROMS and did not have luck. Either it would not find the device, or it would and freeze up on 1% and give me a corrupted ROM message. I really did not do anything different as far as I can tell. I must have though, b/c it didnt work 100 times and then all of a sudden it did.
At any rate, thanks to those who responded with their advice. There is a ton of information on this board and I know alot of people have spend much time trying to help noobs like me. The information can be found if you look hard enough. Use Google to help find posts on here. It helps alot.
Thanks,

congrats! glad it worked out finally!

That my friend is a communication error... I had it frequently when trying to install the latest HardSPL under Vista... You can go HERE and see a list of error codes....
ERROR [248~260] : UPDATE ERROR
This error occurs when there is an “open port error” before upgrading the CE ROM image.
Solution: You can reset the device and run RUU again. If you still encounter an “OPEN PORT ERROR” again, reset your computer and try again.

Hermes Getting code 260
I am having the exact same issue. My problem is on a hermes (ATT 8525)
i have the "update error" problem as well. i have read almost all the threads and searched so much i almost found jimmy hoffa, but nothing
i have tried everything i could think of. i reseted the device and computer so many times i think it will "ware out" soon . i tried official roms, hard spl, unlockers... you name it i've tried it and still i cant get past any RUU. after the bootloader it should start, but i doesn't
i've even called the t-mobile tech support but the answer was "our ruu works fine for us, we don't know where the problem is...bad luck"
if some one has any (well don't take this literally) advice he is more than welcome. now i'm gonna chill out
thanx in advance from a frustrated vario II user
i've located the problem. it's an activesync error (code 43). searched for fixes, but unsuccessfully. if anyone has resolved the problem or has relevant info, please post it. thanx
after endles repeats i've somehow managed to get past the error. don't know how. i upgraded the rom smoothly, like i never had any problems
Edit: Update: OS is working fine but unable to flash radio. Getting stuck at 0% when attempting via USB. SD card method not working - no error messages at all, in bootloader mode. However, SD card is detected fine in the OS and works properly.
Hey all.
It all started off when I tried flashing an OS ROM on my i-mate JASJAM, but it wouldn't work. Kept getting the infamous Error 260. I'm on Vista 32, so I downgraded the drivers as mentioned in the wiki/forums but it still wouldn't work. So I tried flashing it in VMware with XP SP3 but still kept getting the error. Changed the cables and ports too. Tried with about 3 different ROMS (AT&T stripped, official i-mate, other ROMs on forum). Finally, I used a newer RUU as included in the latest HardSPL and it started to flash - but failed after 1% !
I tried re-flashing an OS ROM but I'm just not able to connect due to Error 260. So I resorted to the SD card method, but the process doesn't even start. It's a brand new 1Gig card, tried formating both as FAT16 and 32 and followed all instructions, but it's like the card isn't even being detected.
So, any ideas guys? I would really appreciate if you could help me, as this is my only phone. ( I was mugged a few days ago - had to surrender my old phone )
Current stats are:
IPL-1.04
SPL-2.10.Olipro
PS: The first thing I did was flash to SPL-2.10.Olipro and after many tries, it finally worked. I was even able to boot the OS and everything worked fine.
The error 260 came up on a thread a few weeks ago here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=520226 the person with the problem in the end managed to fix it and flashed a new rom, it might be a good idea to read over this thread and see if you can find any other ideas to help you.
Good luck
Thanks for the quick reply!
I'm not sure though how he managed to fix the problem - it looks like he managed to flash the HardSPL and was able to upgrade the OS ROM after it. I'm already at that stage, only thing is, I still get the Error 260 and the SD card method not working.
Um, for some reason I simply tried the AT&T RUU via USB and it started flashing! The RUU wasn't able to query my OS version, and I chose the force Safe SSPL option. It's now flashing!
Still no idea why the SD card didn't work
Edit: Flashing successful! OS is loading now! Thanks a lot Scotty93
Now to try updating the radio.. *fingers crossed*
im glad to see that youve managed to get it to work, if you can get the sd card method to work it is best as it can stop your hermes from bricking which is a problem if a radio flash goes wrong.
Good luck
Well, it happened. Bricked again. I *had* to flash the radio because I was getting a "No GSM" message on the screen. (Was getting it earlier too)
Tried updating via USB (SD card method not working again).
The progress screen showed up on the phone, but it was stuck at 0%. After 5 mins I got an Error 262 message from the RUU. It had a built-in recovery feature, but it didn't work (gets stuck again at 0% and same thing repeats).
Tried these radios so far:
1.56.70.11
1.48.00.10
1.46.00.11
So, any ideas guys?
Update: Tried flashing the i-mate SHIP rom. Process starts, but gets stuck at 13%. Error 262 in the RUU.
I've just checked this thread and my situation is quite similar to that. I however, haven't attempted to downgrade my SPL yet, to access the rtask command. Is that necessary?
I'm able to use the info 7 command in mtty (VMware), but it throws up nothing new.
At the moment I've switched back to the AT&T OS and it's booting fine, but still no gsm.
Is it worth trying any other ship/radio ROMs? Or can I do something via mtty?
What size sd card you using, It has to be 2Gb or less. Also must be formatted FAT32.
If the radio rom has been corrupted, and it looks like it might be, there is no real way to fix. Some people get lucky by reflashing their SHIPPED STOCK ROM or their SHIPPED RADIO ROM. Most other fixes I've heard of don't work, or if they do, not for long....
Good Luck...
Cheers...
It's a brand new 1GB card, formatted as FAT32, 512kb block size. The WM OS is reading it properly.
I'll try and flash a shipped radio one of these days. Thanks for your input.
Disregard...
Hey All,
I'm at my wits end here. I got a new phone through Sprint's phone replacement program a week or so ago and decided to flash it today, that's when my problem started.
I've searched Google, PPCGeeks, SmartphoneJunkie, and XDA-Devs and tried all the suggestions but still seem to have no luck getting around the 262 Error when I try to flash to HardSPL 0.37.
When I enter bootloader, I face the following screen:
Security Unlocked
RAPH800
SPL-0.40.0000
MicroP-Herman (LED) v0C85
MicroP-Herman (KEY) v0685
PSOC-Raph STAGE_EVT v20
USB
Initially I tried flashing after I plugged it in. Error 262. I realized I forgot to associate it through WMDC (through a clean install) so I did that and tried again. Error 262. I searched around and realized I didn't deselect "Enable Advanced Network Functionality". Changed it, tried again, Error 262. I tried it on my desktop (Win7 x64), my laptop (Win7RC x32), and my old desktop (WinVista x32) all with Error 262. Knowing it was a communications error, I disabled Windows Firewall and all AV products thinking maybe they blocked something. Still Error 262. I even re-downloaded the Hard SPL package. Big surprise, Error 262.
I read in my travels that the shown Security Unlocked banner is for Radio only, so I know I have to flash to SPL-0.37 before I try any other flashing.
Suggestions, Please??

it doesn't seem like you are doing the process 100% correct. unlocking your phone really doesn't have much to do with activesync, as that part is only needed to actually move the files to your device.
you are supposed to initiate the hardspl from the device itself with the .nbh file present on the sd card. your sd card may have something to do with it, it should be FAT32 formatted & probably no larger than 4gb.
feel free to get at me thru PM/IM/EMAIL watever & we'll figure it out man. GL
